It's a shame final fantasy XIII was rushed kusoge because I think that the eidolons were my favourite summons in the entire series, visually and conceptually
Overdesigned postmodern nonsense.
Childhood is using summons.Adulthood is not using summons.
>>4115776The FF13 Eidolons look great in prerendered stills and in concept artbooks, but ingame they didn't look that good or feel imposing. I also never quite understood how summoning them was supposed to work, I think most battles ended before I ever filled up a gauge? Not sure.
>>4115776I like it when sci-fi stuff has a touch of mysticism to it. Stuff that's clearly mechanical but not designed by humans and is wielded through the use of what it basically magic, stuff like that. I really wish the game ended up being good.>>4115802I remember sazh's little car was goofy but the rest were pretty cool, they didn't feel like otherworldly powers like the summons of other games so i'll agree with you there>I also never quite understood how summoning them was supposed to workI only ever used them as a sort of party heal or as a stylish finish, it felt tacked on to the battle system and the game could've done without it at all.
>>4115776>rushed kusogeIt had one of the best battle systems, one of the best party dynamics, one of the best OSTs, and looks gorgeous, but it's kusoge because it's linear, even though FFX was the same shit? Fuck outta here with that
>>4115813I liked the last few hours of the game where you got a full party and could actually engage with the game but that isn't going to excuse the other 80% of the game that was essentially an auto-battler.
It was fairly obvious that the Eidolons were meant to be Fal'cie that Etro created. But for whatever reason they steered away from that.
>>4115818That's almost every FF game; the main story is never the source of the game's real challenges; it's always the optional side content.
>>4115838>Anima, recruit a team of L'cie with attitude.
>>4115802You summon them with your L'ce Power Crystal.
>>4115847They were called "Eidoliths"
>>4115850Originally the Eidolons were supposed to combine into a Ragnarok Megazord. It had Bahamuts legs. Alexander's crown. Hecka-whatever's arms, Shiva's boobs.
>>4115852
It's all right there in the design notes
But then you get into FFXIII-2 and Lightning Returns. And it's just one asspull after another. You could tell that Vanille was meant to be a summoner princess, like Yuna, and Fang was her guardian, who she sacrificed to become ragnarok "the first time".But they don't even explain why they failed, the first time. They blasted a hole into the moon. That much we know. But then what happened? I mean, there had to have been a lot of people living on that part of the moon. The people on living on Pulse were also dying out. If that wasn't enough to open Etro's Gate, why where they trying it a second time?
>>4115887I don't think we were even supposed to get 13-2 or Lightning's Return. We were supposed to get Versus 13, that was all connected by this "fabula nova crystallis" mythos involving Etro. So chances are, the Regalia in FF16 was also a transforming "Eidolon". And they just glossed over the lore. A lot of people never even unlocked it!
>>4115887xiii-2 felt really disconnected from xiii. Its like they threw all the interesting parts about the world out the window for some B plot, thankfully the game was better so it wasn't all bad
>>4115916Based exclamation point anon!
>>4117142Type-0 was also supposed to be part of Fabula Nova Crystallis. The summons all had this machine cog wheel motif, in anycase.
