Just finished Geneforge.Pretty good, worth a play.Backstabbing those 2 psychos was very satisfying
>>4128881Did you play Avernum too?
>>4129083No, I might play it next. Is it good?
>>4129113Dunnno, try it out, tell us.
>>4128881based and shaperpilledwhich ending did you do? did you side with any of the sects?
>>4129113It's pretty brisk, but the early game will slap if you don't weapon max on your fighters. Also hidden level buffs mean you just kinda steamroll things at some point and shields become useless.
>>4128881looks really ugly
>>4128881I've played vogelware ever since the original Exile was released for Windows but somehow I have managed to avoid Geneforges.Last time I had an opportunity to sink time into them, the originals were a pain to get running on modern OS due to their weird technical implementation. That goddamn macfag can't code for shit.Might have to give the remakes a chance the next time. How badly dumbed down are they? Compared to exile/avernum/nuavernum?
>>4129762That's the prettied up remake with less hideous UI visuals.Don't look up the original. You won't be able to handle it.
>>4129627I tried to do the most endings I could on one playthrough, so the first one was the escape ending.Second was the consume and destroy geneforge.Third was siding with Trajkov, and I'm actually surprised to see that his ending was actually pretty good: took care of the serviles, and fulfilled his promise to you to be his second in command. Then lastly is the good end where I didn't use Geneforge, only destroyed it, still preferred Trajkov's ending.
>>4128881i bought the pak from GOG and i still haven't played any of them. i mostly bought it just because i like the old Exile Demos and Blades of Exile... which i never beaten(the included modules or whattheycallem).i hope they still work by the time i upgrade to a loonix PC or something. though i probably still need a Windows PC for gov services spyware and work bullshit.
>>4129824>hideous UI visuals.its le old windows 98 style default UI. it's great.
>>4129817>Compared to exile/avernum/nuavernum?remake of Geneforge? i don't think he remade all of them YET. if ever. last i check he only did the 1st Geneforge with more endings? old Geneforge was sold for cheap on GOG as a 6pak or something. i forgot... sorry 5pak as "Geneforge Saga". i think last update for those were in 2008. so maybe they need a Win Vista/7 rig to work properly.the remakes seem to just pretty up the graphics and make them NOT fuck up on Win10.
>>4129083>>4129113>>4129129Avernum is great, but quite different. In terms of freedom and openness it goes: >Geneforge>Avernum>Queen's Wish>Avadon>>4129762They all look like shit, but they are rather charming games despite that
Has anyone played the later Geneforge games? Worth the time? I played Geneforge 1 and loved it but bounced right off Geneforge 2 for being basically the same story again. Wondering if the other games are more interesting.
>>4129956>last i check he only did the 1st Geneforge with more endings? Geneforge 2 - Infestation (remake of 2) was released relatively recently.
>>4129956>the remakes seem to just pretty up the graphicsThat sounds a lot better than the Exile remakes.Going from Exile to Avernum wasn't too bad.Mostly it just removed some less used spells and limited your party size. I don't mind the loss of some half-redundant healing spells with slightly different situational use cases but removing quickfire was lame and gay. There was also some new content which made Avernum worth it.The new visuals were pretty nice, going from topdown to isometric with completely new style made it feel fresh. Some pretty cool retro sprites with beautiful vibrant colors were lost to the new more muted style but that's not a big deal. Any artist would probably tell you the new style had more cohesion and artistic merit. But nu-avernum, I absolutely couldn't stomach the dumbing down of it. The visual style also got worse: he just bought higher fidelity versions of the same isometric assets that were used in quite abstract manner. Same tiles were used to represent completely different things on world map and town maps, so they had to be highly abstracted, low fidelity.
