>make throwing weapons overpowered
>also make a bunch of weapons with the thrown property that have special effects
>those special effects of THROWN property weapons, don't trigger their special effects when THROWN
>only make 3 weapons in the entire game that have special effects when thrown, one of which is locked behind a specific race and another one doesn't automatically return to you, forcing you to only play between two subclasses to use it properly
>only make 5 homing weapons in the entire game
>two of them are joke items, one of which actively damages you
I like this game a lot, but what the actual fuck were they thinking here?
>>
>>4130848
It went like this
>my lord, I bring troubling news
>SVEN: What is it, my child? Are not all things well in our domain?
>all is well, and our subjects are pleased.. too pleased! they have naught to complain about! nothing to talk about! they are withering away from loneliness!
>SVEN: That is dire news indeed!
>indeed! what is more, our game is about to be released upon them!
>SVEN: All we can do is wait for a hero arise
>THROWING WEAPON DESIGN LEAD DIRECTOR: My sire, it is risky, but if we remove some throwing weapons, it should be enough for a /vrpg/ thread or two
>SVEN: All right.

Threadly reminder that these retards, sitting flush on a giant pile of millions of dollars from EA sales at full price, and self-publishing, decided to rush their stupid game out the door, only one-third polished and complete, and cut half of act 3 (hastily cramming in what was finished onto one map, leading to hilarity like Cazadors mansion being up on top of a wall and accessed via ladder)…
…to beat fucking Star “who fucking cares” Field to market
>>
It's a game for Critical Role watching normgroids, they don't care about game mechanics.
>>

You have to remember that the average project manager in the media, let alone video games, thinks that Bethesda is a perfect angel that can do no wrong and that they must try to stay away from or compete with Bethesda.

>vrpgtards that think this game is not good should go ahead and meet Truck-kun because nothing in this world will satisfy their warped and petulant "tastes"
To the contrary, I think any reasonable and sensible person looks at BG3 and sees, at best, a mediocre and flawed game that had the potential for greatness and squandered it, such that I personally think that anyone who unreservedly praises it or calls it “one of the greatest X ever” is probably a bit dim, or has limited experience and knowledge.
I even thought the early access version was pretty fun and promising, right when it came out, but it’s plain as day that something went horribly wrong during the games development. I personally can’t think of a more disappointing RPG (in terms of high expectations and hopes versus the final product), and I’ve played them since the early 90s.
They done fuckin’ goofed. All it excels in are excellent production values, and being degenerate normalfag bait.
>>
>>4130848
If you use thrown weapons, you're schizophrenic anyway, and the devs are well within their rights to torment and neglect you.
>>
>>4131619
They didn't neglect throwers, they made it one of the most broken, OP builds in the entire game. They just made it boring by limiting its usefulness to three whole weapons in the entire game, and kneecapping every other "thrown" weapon.
Most other popular builds in the game have a number of ways you can go about it in terms of weapons, armor/gear, and class, with a variety of "less optimal" weapons in act 1 that still have an actual function at low levels.
Why do you hate thrown weapons so much? Is this a tabletop meme?
>>
>>4130848
Did you know you can just choose not to pick some stuff, or just overcome limitations? You're allowed to do that. The game actively encourages you to figure stuff out. For example, I think Tavern Brawler is a double dip feat that doesn't belong in the game. So I never pick it. I also think Honour Mode is the only difficulty level worth playing, so I play it. And third, since no NPC in the game is allowed to multiclass, I think I shouldn't be allowed to do so either, so I simply don't. Weird how I can just self correct. I still throw stuff with Karlach even though you seem to be pretending that it can't be done, and it's so fucking weird, but with her gargantuan strength value, it means she can carry all throwing weapons I find anyway. Almost like magic. Or basic game mechanics.

If you play this game, you are a furry homosexual.

I played this game, I enjoyed it thoroughly, finished it on honor mode, and I’m a straight White male.
If having gay sex was contrarian, your asshole would have been stretched by a mile now.

>or just overcome limitations?
I just think it'd be cool that the axe with the thrown property that does extra damage to burning enemies, would do that extra damage when you throw the thrown property weapon. Instead of, you know, using the same pike for 50+ hours before I can get the lightning jabber.
>I still throw stuff with Karlach even though you seem to be pretending that it can't be done
I legitimately don't know what you mean by this.
>>
>>4130848
If I would make a story mod and limit class and race selsction about 60% is this OK or a no go? (easier to balance and fits story better)
>>4130982
>leading to hilarity like Cazadors mansion being up on top of a wall and accessed via ladder)…
I cri everitim ; > ;
>>
>>4130848
returning throwing weapons are too good to be true, honestly they shouldn't be shitting all over good old honest swords
>>
>>4134934
the options for throwing weapons are
>tedious inventory management and gold sink
>special magical returning weapons
>treat throwing weapons like how most games treat arrows, they're infinite just don't think about it
>>
>>4130848
>one of which is locked behind a specific race
works with disguise self.
>one doesn't automatically return to you
just take eldritch knight.
>throwing weapons overpowered
not true, archery is the only thing in the game that's actually overpowered for simple reason of attack economy.
>>
>>4132131
you're a namefag, you're clearly not right in the head
>>
>>4130848
because you're only allowed to have fun with the physics
>>
You also forgot that changing turns too fast with a returning weapon can result in it not coming back. Despite all that, throwing is pretty fun as far as gimmicks though
>>
>>4130982
First Larian game?
>>
>>4135485
I played “Divine Divinity” back in the day, then forgot about them until DOS2 (“WTF these guys are still in business?” and then DOS1 after that
It may have improved my expectations that I didn’t play DOS2 until the “definitive edition” or whatever, in which they genuinely did try to somewhat repair and fix the cut act 4 in that game. I heard it was much rougher at launch, and I was hoping that BG3 would eventually get that same reworking (it didn’t)
>>
>>4135195
Personally my preference out of all the attack spamming options is just warlock, though losing an action to counterspell fucking sucks
>>
>>4130982
You can only access Cazador's mansion through the backdoor via the wall because the main entrance is in the upper city, which you do not have access to. This is explain to you in game. Try not mashing space over and over to speed through every dialogue and you might pick up on these very basic things.
>>
>>4132048
>I yield, but I'm angry about it
>>4132133
Yes, there's tons of bugs. Booming blade has so many bugs you should just assume it doesn't interact with anything. But games have bugs. That has been true since the 80's and by gods man, I am almost 100% sure it'll be true in the future too. Overcome the problem, anon. You know you're able to.
>I legitimately don't know what you mean by this
What I mean is, you don't need the riders to make any difference. Your characters are handed so much shit that adds damage that you simply don't need special sauce weapons to do damage or to make it interesting. Want to add electric damage? Use dash and speedy light foot. Want to do fire damage? Wear flawed helldusk gloves. Want to do necrotic? Wear dark justiciar gloves. Want to do acid damage? wear caustic band. Want to do radient? Wear Calloud Glow Ring. want to do psychic? Wear strange conduit ring. Want to do poison? Wear broodmother's revenge. You can even add regular damage with fling ring or kushido gloves. Kvetching about weapons not adding yet another damage rider on top of eeeeverything else is difficult to take seriously.
>>
>>4135890
The dialogue in bg3 is shit
>>
>>4135894
>What I mean is, you don't need the riders to make any difference.
Well, sure. I just brought up dragon's grasp because it's sold by Arron early in act 1. The sussur dagger, for instance, causes silence, but only if you use it in melee.
For me it's more about the principle. Weapons that have the thrown property do normal weapon damage, while weapons without that property only do weight/gravity damage. I think that's fair, greatswords are not built for throwing while daggers/handaxes/spears/etc. can be used in real life as throwing weapons. On top of that, all weapons require proficiency to use their special abilities.
All I'm saying is, proficiency with the weapon and having the thrown property should trigger the special effects when thrown, and it triggers my autism that it doesn't.
>>
>>4135943
It's been a while since I've looked into why that shit behaved so unintuitive like that, but iirc the reason was basically you aren't "wielding" the weapon when you throw it, so you don't benefit from the magic effects unless they're specifically designed to work with throwing weapons or if they would apply if you were fighting unarmed. Not to say I'm defending that nonsense, but there's the method to the madness if it brings you some inner peace.
>>
>>4135890
>You can only access Cazador's mansion through the backdoor via the wall because the main entrance is in the upper city, which you do not have access to.
You’re a lying faggot. The reason you don’t have access to the upper city is that the upper city was cut during development to rush the game out the door, and what was complete got stuffed into various corners of the lower city: Cazador’s mansion, contrast with the pre-release screenshots of Astarion standing outside the gate and looking inwards at it. Or Gortash’s coronation being intended to be in the Ducal Palace but instead taking place in a barracks for some reason. Or the House of Hope being crammed into a random corner of the map.
>>
>>4135943
>Weapons that have the thrown property do normal weapon damage
Unless you have armour gear that adds riders, yes. The weapon's native magic rider will never be added.
>weapon and having the thrown property should trigger the special effect
Yes, and that is the intended mechanics. But it is bugged. The game is absolutely bugged in many categories, and some of them is to your advantage. It all balances out in the end.
>>
>>4136004
>retarded kvetching
Yes, but the in game explanation is still the same, and the in game explanation is entirely reasonable.
>>
>>4130982
Apparently development was utterly cursed, which is believable given how bad a reputation Wizards of the Coast has with third parties.

Larian refusing to touch the franchise again despite how well it did makes it clear how shitty an experience it was.
>>
>>4136121
>Yes, but the in game explanation is still the same, and the in game explanation is entirely reasonable.
No, you troglodyte. The real reason is that they didn’t finish it, and cut it from the game. That’s why you can’t visit it.
>>
>>4130848
everything is overpowered people beat that game no reload solo honor lvl1. To make this game remotely challenging you need multiple difficulty mods and a book of house rules to not abuse exploits or overpowered mechanics.
