>>4135093I really need to get around to playing BG3. We're finally at the point where even western RPGs look good, lads.
>>4135153The game is shit. Good production values is all it has.
>>4135153I finished the first two acts and then stalled out at the first town in act 3 when other JRPGs released that I began playing.I'd say that the strength of the game is in how seemless most of the questing is. There is a broad overarching quest, but not obvious mandatory main objectives you are supposed to do in a strict order. Instead, most of the gameplay is you wandering around the map and running into different incidents or events or cutscenes, and all of the sidequests have the same level of production values as the main quest. So it doesn't feel like there is a disconnect or that you are doing fillery stuff.Another thing the game has going for it is that you have a lot more freedom compared to other RPGs (especially JRPGs). Namely, you can kill almost any NPC or party member you don't like and not get judged by the narrative as being an evil protagonist and locked into an evil route. A major problem with JRPGs is that you have to put up with unlikeable party members, or a NPC gets off scott free for his deeds. BG3 lets you resolve that. I met a party member who was 1. a demon, 2. talked like a redditor, and 3. acted as if she was a dindu while at the same time gloating about how many people she killed during her 10 years of slavery. The narrative tries hard to push you on her but you can immediately say no and shut that down (see pic).>We're finally at the point where even western RPGs look good, lads.Sadly, the game by default has a detached, birds eye distance top down view which squanders the assets they made. You have to use a mod to get a normal 3rd person view and better enjoy the environments.1/2
>>41352232/2Also, while the visual fidelity is very high, I do think that the art direction/aesthetic of the game is rather bland. As in the way the characters, environments, spells, and creatures look. Texturing/shading/lighting/etc. It does not look memorable the way that a Final Fantasy game does or the Souls series does. It's a shame because it was a WotC licensed game, and WotC owns a lot of fantastic art. MTG, Dragonlance, etc. Should have made the game look like that IMO.If you do play it, I would recommend the following mods:No Alphabets modRealms RestoredDeGirlBossDignifyReallyShadowheartBetterRomanceWyllsOfToril (I used the black version for a more handsome fellow knightly party member)NarratorMortanius (replaces the female narrator with an older male voice)WASD movement mod3rd person camera modTransmog modEverybody Dyes Unlimited Dying
>>4135229Thanks. I will play vanilla on a console. That 3rd person mod would probably be nice though.>(replaces the female narrator with an older male voice)I'm surprised, she sounds great to me.
