did /vg/ /domg/ finally die a true death?
>>
>>2368756
No, it's still there.
>>
>>2368770
Ok, I was worried.
>>
>>2368725
>buy Dom5 specifically for MP
>"well I'm a bit busy with irl stuff, will play later"
>years pass
>Dom6 is released and even goes on sale regularly now
>Dom5 still rotting in my library

I'm a dumbass with poor self control
>>
Is there a mod that adds any new layers yet ? Like conquest of elysium has hell and shit
>>
>>2369672
Pretty sure that needs to be done with a map. And there are some maps that have multiple layers now. For example, there was that warhammer map with both the underground and chaos realm maps
>>
any interesting mods you guys play?
>>
Is this just a war game or is there some sort of 4x/city builder gameplay to it?
>>
>>2370920
Wargame. There's a whopping 3 buildings you can construct.
>>
>>2370920
Call it an autobattler and you wouldn't be far off.
>>
>>2370920
It is turn based war game autobattler with elements of 4x, but no city building at all

The big appeal of Dominions is the fucking stupid amount of units, spells, magic items, effects and all the permutations of those that means that you can play this game for 100s of hours and still learn new shit

Talk to me about your favorite under-appreciated nation.

I like LA Man because they flew too close to the sun in MA and were cursed because of it. All of their mages and priests are old men who shepparded the nation out from under the Curse and wreckless rule of the Mothers and Daughters of Avalon.

Mechanically, the nation screams "give us nature magic" but thematically the old men see nature magic as a return to the Old Ways and a loss of control.

The nation can be hard to play in MP because the bag of tricks that they have the easiest access to is kind of shallow. They got nerfed a fair bit from Dom 5 to Dom 6 by the theft of a lot of air magic into glamour with only a few minor concessions to show for it. Additionally, none of their unique events were improved or changed in Dominions 6 and a lot of MP games play with story events turned off because of their impact.

Nonetheless, I still love them.
>>
>>2372656
I really like Sauromatia. I dont know appreciated they are in the mp scene, but fuck they are a cool nation.
In particular I like their tight reins tech which allows you to some real wacky shit with undisiplined troops that is just as likely get you and your enemies fucked over.

What are you even supposed to do with most level one mages? Cast itty bitty aoe1 buffs? And is W1 really the wettest noodle early and most useful later?
>>
>>2379572
W1 is not the most useful later but it does move from "why are you recruiting this" tier to "Useful at filling a niche" tier with the right research.

D1s can do basic skelly spam and remote site search.

S1s need no explanation.

B1s are born kidnappers.

G1s summon warrior illusions and cast luck.

The others have generally useful point buffing for thugs and units.
A1 and N1 can also summon hawks and trees.
>>
>>2379572
>What are you even supposed to do with most level one mages? Cast itty bitty aoe1 buffs? And is W1 really the wettest noodle early and most useful later?

I SUCK at this game, but for the sake of thread engagement

F1: 1 gem(Fire in a Jar - F1 Const 3) to Phoenix Power into F2. Later on you can spam will 'o wisp for 1 gem (again Fire in a Jar) and they are kind of annoying

A1: Owl Quil sweatshop, otherwise kind of doodoo unless you have accessible Storm. Maybe Gust of Winds can help on your expansion by breaking up formations with stuns if you are lucky

W1: Quickness/Liquid Body/Breath of winter for thugging if you can put your hands on some AoE weapons I guess. Ring of water breathing to get down where is wetter.

E1: Same as F1, in pinch use 1 gem to power up, and now you can give your troops AoE Giant Strength and Armor Buffs plus reinvigoration. For thugs you have temper flesh and some stone/iron skin. Summon of ogres if you need to break dows walls before the enemy can react

S1: .....
>>
>>2379687

D1: Remote Site search to get the BigNecro going. Plop some skellies before passing out, I guess they can bait enemy mage-priests into casting holy spells instead of blast your actual guys. If you have a high profile mage with D1, you can give him a skull stuff to twiceborn and give the staff to someone else after it. I think most people consider Reanimation a waste of gems, and it kind of is due to how easily priest can blast your skellies, but in a pinch or if used with purpose it can give you the mass and/or the undead to counter something nasty or get underwater

N1: Advance and cast to heal and keep point buffing your frontline
>implying the casting AI ever cast the shit you need
There is a tech i've seen where you use N1 mages to heal undermanned comunions slaves from fatigue damage. Cool stuff, but:
>implying the casting AI ever cast the shit you need
Also lastly, N1 lets you forge some boots with reinvigoration, so, sweatshop duty for them if you are planning on stacking reinvig on your mages.

G1: Spam illusions for that sweet sweet false damage, as well as silencing wall archers. Luck is fucking great, especially if fighting giants, absolutely worth the point buff. Twillight spell automatically power them up to G2 and now you can cast an AoE Luck and spam even more illusions before taking a nap. With 1 gem (Dream Spool gives you a temp but it is Const 5) you can cast Shroud of Bewilderment
I love Glamour

B1: I dont know what I'm doing with blood most of the time, so I dont have any takes. The have the blood version of communions and that is all I know. Make them build for themselves the item that boosts blood hunting and good hunting.
>>
>>2379688
>>2379687
Appreciate the answers. Actually haven't been thinking about using a gem to fire/earth power and then go to town. As for blood 1. I guess tossing a few imps out?
>>
>>2379724
>a few imps out?
In my experience, a few imps will just fly all over the place and land in a tile surrounded by 6 enemies and die.
I feel like as it usually goes with flying units, you need to have mass before they become functional. So you might need a few B1 casting to make them not just become a waste of slaves, or maybe try to time the cast to when the lines clash so that the imps have chance to form a useful mass
>>
>>2379745
Isn't that comparable to point buffs though? A single astral mage etherealing ~6 soldiers in an army of a hundred isn't doing much. But when you send ten of them, suddenly half the army is ethereal.
6/12 imps depending on the slave usage on a single mage. Or 60-120 imps by sending out all the unskilled mages is similar.

Any MA Atlantis fans? One of the few nations with recruit anywhere H3s and their big mage is a W3 with a 2 in E,F,S with a chance 1 in 4 of being a W5.

I have honestly not played MA Atlantis. H3s are kind of nice but just not necessary.

Are there other overhauls i have been missing out on? (aside from wahammer/elden ring)

Why, yes, I would like my slow to recruit level 3 mages casting single target spells with a simple MR check. How did you know?
>>

>>2369357
I did something similar. I played a shitload of Dom4 and eventually burned myself out by running too many PBEM at once, but I got Dom5 with the intention of getting back into the game. I never even launched it.
>>
>>2369357
Same thing happened to me more or less. Loved Dom 4, played Dom 5, wanted to buy it, it’s probably sitting in my library now collecting dust because couldn’t predict Dom 6 would come out and mog both. At this rate, Dom 4 exists as a point of aniquity, Dom 5 is literally just an inferior version of Dom 6 which no longer has a reason to exist. And the music is just Nordic vanilla slop
>>
>>2385660
I liked one or two songs from Dom 5
Dom 4 Cantigas de Santa Maria mogs 5 and 6 however

Priest level 3 and not cap only.

Death Explosion bless and spam green dogs?
>>
>>2379687
>>2379688
To add to the other anon, F1 is basically an f2 with some fire gems, and without, they can spam burn early which helps melt down big size units in heat. Later they get blind which fucks thugs. Fire also gets decent thugging gear early game at con 3, second only to earth. Later, usually too late to matter cause its con 7, they get lightless lantern and will explode your research.

A1 become A2 lightning bolt spammers with storm power, and usually make excellent shots with ranged thug items thanks to precision buffs and con3 precision items/bows. Worst case they spam summon birbs.

E1 without gem support are stuck spamming earth grasp and forging the cool con 3 earth shit.

N1 get eagle eyes and poison darts making them decent ranged thug support, entagling vines and web for fucking up chafe formations. Thorn maces make them considerably more dangerous via enhanced point buffs, but are expensive.

B1 are you virgin hunters, but they are always useful incombat as well thanks to blood communions, reinvigorate to wipe fatigue, early game bleed or imp spam, and lategame life for life makes them absolute thug rapists. In addition, its super easy to empower them up levels in blood early mid game if you have specific blood spells or need more resilient sabbath slaves.

Hope that helps.

Most of your mages are sacred and have low or no protection.

Great way to explode all your mages in a real hurry and doesn't help your expansion any and probably not your first war, either.
>>
Pretty new to this game and it's exactly what I've been looking for...hope I play it longer than songs of syx, rim world, dwarf fortress. I was trying to scratch an itch and this one is it. Anyways back to lurking. The competition videos have been fun to watch too, wish more people made playthroughs on yt.

My brother in Christ, there are a dozen channels that do either complete playthroughs or casts of other people's games. Which channels have you heard of?

Make golem thug. First F1 mage it encounters spams blindness at it all battle until it sticks. There is no practical way to remove afflictions from golems. 35 pearls well spent.
>>
>>2408747
A golem's base attack and defense are kind of crap to begin with, you can still do a lot of things with them even if they are blind. Even just giving them an AOE effect on attack weapon and they will be a dumb thug that can teleport.
>>
I casted Land of the Ever Young as not!Rome just to check if it would affect the triarEYE chaff. But it doesnt.
Kind of dissapointed
>>
>>2411887
Land of the Ever Young only slows aging. It doesn't reverse it or change the initial age of a unit or commander.
>>
>>2411993
>or change the initial age of a unit or commander.
Except it does affect the calculation of the initial age of recruited commander much like unaging bless.
In this same test game, I just recruit one of the high tier Pythium mages at age 34, where as before Land of the Ever Young they would come at age 70-80.
I wanted specificaly test if it would also affect old age on chaff. But it seems like it doesnt, since the Triarius I recruited are still coming at age ~55
>>
>>2412024
Didnyou run multipel tests on that? In my experience, the age of a commander can vary a good bit naturally.

I think the [isold] tag in the base unit forces it to be old.
>>
File: age.png (3.17 MB, 975x2156)
3.17 MB PNG
>>2412050
The unit card in the recruit screen gives you an estimate base age for the unit before a random variation is applied, as you probably already know.
For the same units which Land of the Ever Young age reduction seems activating, that is, commanders with magic paths( which is in line with the spell blurb), I can get a younger version on the fort with the spell compared to other forts and unit information the faction unit roster screen.

Pic related is the same mage unit: On the unit roster screen; On the recruit screen of the province withthe spell; A mage recruited after spell; And another from before it.

God, I fucking wish. I don't need a real focus on it, but I would love to have more options than Temple, Fort, Lab. Fuck, at least let me build some roads or something.

This game is completely retarded. There's zero feedback of what's happening during a battle. How are 200+ Ulm completely armored infantry and crossbowmen losing to a handful of fish niggers on coast?
>>
>>2412917
They are awesome, better come prepared to kill them and take their shit. You will look forwards to it in future games.
>>
>>2413101
I think that roads might be nice to have back but apparently they were removed because it tended to break the pathfinding.
>>
>>2413161
Have you never look at the detailed battle log? It tells you a lot of stuff. But, if i had to guess, I would say that your Ulmites are getting reppelled constantly. Then they are getting killed by being either netted and as they become exhausted after 10 to15 rounds their effective armor decreases because they are too tired to defend themselves.
>>
>>2369357
Yeah I cant be arsed with it. I want top play it, but I generally want to play it NOW and not in little chunks over several months. I always lose fucking interest in the MP games.
>>
>>2413161
>>2413584
kek, should have brought pikes bro. how do you even lose 200 dudes to fishfucks you retard? you fucking retard, try something more your IQ range like overwatch.
>>
>>2413161
>How are 200+ Ulm completely armored infantry and crossbowmen losing to a handful of fish niggers on coast?
Yeah. How the fuck does that happen considering that the fish fucks cant even pen your Ulm plate? You better start explaining
Did a mage luckly sniped your commander?
>>
>>2413161
1. MA Ulm crossbowmen are a trap. They are one of the few ranged units that can reliably damage your blackplate infantry and will teamkill all the fucking time, while the slow reload means their inefficient at eliminating softer chaff like enemy archers. The sappers are far better ranged support, can put down flanks with their picks, and double as siege chaff.

2. Blackplate is high fatigue, and your linemen have only average skill. Units with light/nat armor usually have higher def due to taking no penalty from armor. If they also have higher hp/ways of disabling like nets, which fishmen tend to have, and your temps off a.couple scales, your blackplate will fatigue out after round 7 or 8.

3. Because Ulm soldiers have bad defense and meh morale, they get repelled a fucking ton by length 3 weapons like spears (which fishmen frequently have). Its why pikemen are so popular - they almost always get repel against enemies while never suffering repels themselves.
>>
>>2396090
>1 Sidhe Champion hold or cast spell x5 then attack closest
>5 Daoine Sidhe guard commander
>variety of mages scattered about casting buffs on the above then advance and cast
>repeat until critical mass of jacked superelves
Does this make them good? No because MA Man and Ys do this tactic far better
>>
>>2416070
Yeah and this only really works after expansion is over becauee you don't have the research before then.

During expansion, you either have to go hell bless to make the cap only sacreds work well or go completely the opposite and go semi-scales build Eriu and use scales troops. Neither of these are competitive options for Eriu in MP games.
>>
>open dom6 to do some expansion testing
>load in
>set research and exit back to the map
>entire computer slows to a crawl
>nothing out of place or strange in task manager
>had to restart

>What are the odds
DESTINY HAS SPOKEN! YOU ARE THE CHOSEN ONE! GO FORTH AND SPREAD THE WORD OF YOUR PRETENDER SO THAT ALL MAY KNOW OF THEIR GLORY AND FORTUNE!

Seriously though, I have never seen it double dip like that. It is probably very rare. There are thousands if sights, right? Only a handful of them make forts. So maybe 1/(20/1000 × 20/1000) so about one in a few thousand provinces (the numbers I am using here are just my own gross sense for things and may be way off).
