Friend recommended this game to me. Is it any good?
fairly run of the mill 4x with a character system. Nothing really to set it apart from others. Never tried the DLC so I don't know what that adds.
>>2373367Yeah it's good, definitely get it on sale. You don't need any of the DLC, but if it's bundled at a steep discount it's good too.
>>2373367It's made by the Civ IV director so it's good.
>Can't pick city locHmm
>>2373367I liked it, not my favourite 4x but it's fun for what it is
>>2374064It just works, trust me bro. It's a better way to eliminate city spam than gay global happiness mechanics that artificially constrain expansion even when you have open land ripe for the taking. Also works thematically because you're playing in an Old World™ where all the valuable land and city sites have already been settled, and you're just taking them over.
>>2373367I did not like it. Not sure why as a huge civ fan, just found playing it to be a long meh 7/10 experience.
How is the Wrath of gods and Saar DLC?
>>2373367It's got some good ideas, but I disliked the character mechanics/events too much to really enjoy it.
DLC vampire game with every faction with an interesting quirk locked behind $9.99. It's also completely boring to play singleplayer.
>>2377394Wrath is sorta interesting with the disaster mechanics, but it's not amazing IMO. I have no plans on buying poos. Maybe in 2 years they will add china/indochina.
>>23744837/10 means better than average.
>>2378259Hilarious enough they are pretty broken with Ashoka getting access to all six families plus the ability to found Buddhism.Overall the game is pretty good, orders system is a nice touch. Victory conditions are kind of meh with basically just quests and points. Probably will get a points victory before conquest unless you turn it off.
is there an incest mod? I am playing the Ptolemies damn it I want to marry my sister.
>>2380664Why do it in game when you could do it in real life?
>>2373367bore world
>>2381978sadly I have no sister and as my father is dead and my mother has already gone through menopause it is no longer possible for me to acquire one
>>2373367It beats Civ7Humankindthe other one I forgot the name.
>>2383180millenia?
>>2373367Bump
>>2373367Best action-economy for turn-based I've encountered, which can be really fresh. But map generation isn't the best imo. Would be nice to see similar action-economy but in a more flexible setting.
>>2373374What sets Old World apart to me is that the AI is by far least retarded out of all current 4X games. It is like no other 4X game can figure out that you need to give units a lot of space and mobility to give AI a chance in 1-unit-per-tile warfare.
>>2373374based fpbp
started playing this recently, just been going through the tutorials learning thingsit's pretty fun.orders are a unique way to handle per-turn actions, it's a neat balancing act.are city projects worth it? like the archive, which gives some research and an extra one permanently
>>2417780City projects are handy for cities without decent specialists.
Where's China? Either Qin Dynasty or the Han Dynasty
>>2417780City projects, especially the growth one are very good right after the city is founded if you have no other priority.>>2423527I've been asking them to do SEA or East Asia for years, we just got pooland, so maybe in a year or two?
>>2417780alright, played some more of this.I maintain my stance of "it's pretty fun."but holy hell that third carthage scenario was hard.desu I don't know if I have it in me to try the last oneI hate the roman units
>>2423527Rather the Han Dynasty since they had records of Rome. (Although they never directly went there)
>>2427222I've never actually played the scenarios, are they fun? also nice trips
>>2429609thanksI've only played the three carthage scenarios.the first two scenarios were easy, definitely more like things to try after the tutorials.the third scenario was hard, you're up against rome with stronger and more numerous units.they're scripted to retreat after a few turns which gives you some breathing room, but it also throws some more bullshit at you to keep you busy.at least it taught me that when war is on every action has to be devoted to the war effort
>>2373505>made by the Civ IV directordid NOT know thatmight throw some bucks at it while GOG sale is onany of the DLCs a must buy?
>>2440365Sacred and Profane is good, just because it adds more event variety. Likewise Behind the Throne but that costs 2x. Kush are whatever and I didn't buy indians so idk. The natural disaster pack is...fine? I don't have major complaints but it didn't do anything super cool to me either.
I've been playing this, I feel like it has solved a lot of the issues I've had with Civ games for many years.
>>2441800yeah, Soren knew what he was doing
>>2441800It does, I'm honestly surprised more games haven't used the limited moves mechanic.
>>2441895>>2441900yeah the orders mechanic is good, overall I feel the game has designed to wean out the automating that Civ encourages. I never automate any of my workers in this, learning the adjacency bonuses is quite radical. For example I tried the Europe map as Rome to learn the game. Rome has a lot of hills around it so I put up mines and a few farms around it so it was producing a lot of iron and some food. When I took over Gaul, there's loads of flatlands and rivers there, so I realised I don't need Rome to produce food anymore, so now all those workers I had created I sent them back to Rome to redevelop the tiles there. It's also realistic, the idea of your capital city eventually importing all its resource needs. Also multiple leaders to choose from for a single civilization, I've wanted the Civ series to implement that for years and years.Which maps and map settings do you like best?
>>2443130>Which maps and map settings do you like best?seaside or mediterranean, standard difficulty, barbs setting that gives them +1 movement, gender roles mod for no female generals allowed or no female roles allowed depending on who I'm playing.
>>2443130Oh yeah, the adjacency combos and tile bonuses for wonders and improvements definitely ticks the civ 6 district planning box.I prefer wooded maps I guess because it's your choice to chop them early or make space. They did improve AI behavior over water but I prefer minimal water because it usually makes the game stagnate a bit.
