I'm now convinced the devs are trying their best but they're either mediocre or unexperienced or just really bad at noticing/ thinking about details
>Map itself is full of neat scripts, modified units, even a snowman as an easteregg
>Supposed to be a "no build" mission, but you eventually fight enough Fafnirs to get 2K gold, while having access to Norse infantry and having 250 wood
>You can just build a market, build a village center and some villagers, you can put about half on food/wood each (no gold on the map) and abuse the gold trickle you get from the Aztec gold dropsite to get some extra gold without the market, and eventually you can get full upgrades for all units and a Titan
Same shit with every post-retold addition, they're all....decent but they always feel half-assed and it takes devs a few months to fix the biggest issues and even then it's not 100% where it should be.
This example is just a nitpick because I think it was funny and it made me feel smart and not retarded to figure it out
>>
>>2383292
I was thinking of complimenting that level specifically, it was pretty fun, reminds me of Warcraft 3 maps with all the scripts and easter eggs (I enjoyed walking into the cave only to get literally blown the fuck out)
I did have that thought of using the ulfsarks to build stuff but figured it was a no-build so any forces I had would be sufficient, but maybe on a Ludicrous run I'll give that a shot, ideally before it's patched out
If it was another level, I think it'd be a problem, but considering you're at the 53 minute mark it's just another gag, a nice bonus for being patient for no real reason
>>

>Chiron deadsplaining Ajax
Were the campaign writers not able to buy the China DLC or did they just decide not to bring it up and potentially confuse customers who didn't buy the China DLC
I felt a nostalgic happiness seeing Chiron again
>>
>>2383267
Not yet, but Kastor mentioned Ajax's hair is getting greyer and despite that their ages never got changed from the Titans.
The new Aztec princess is also 24 just like Kastor (btw Kastor's purpose in the story is to suffer from brown fever so severe it guides all of his decisions, I hope he gets his white boy summer and cucks the Aztec BF because he's feeling neutered and stupid at the moment).
Idk if the devs think this shit is meant to take place in the same year as the Titans or if they want me to believe that because that's retarded.
>Kastor fucks up, frees the Titans, makes up for it and gets a pimp scepter and becomes hyperborean kang in nuAtlantis
>Ajax dies and comes back to life or some shit, btw he's in China and Japan
>btw he came back and now Kamos' daughter we never heard of has a massive pirate fleet that is strong enough to threaten fucking Kastor the kang of nuAtlantis, Amanra (no, not Queen anymore cause she's the only Egyptian there) and Ajax
>btw we now take this random ass sky passage into Norse land and apparently during the past few hours Loki did something or some shit and all giants are bigger, btw Eitri has Mjolnir for some reason and it's all fucked up and we never get to see it for the rest of the mission but it's implied Eitri is wielding it (kek wtf)
>Ajax has dementia, he acts like he hasn't seen anyone else in a really long time despite saving Japan like 2 days ago and China a week before that, and Kastor is now his best friend or something despite Ajax wanting to kill Kastor a month ago
yeah yeah story never mattered but it's legit retarded now (retolded?)
>>
>>2383303
You can actually find Mjolnir in a cave to the right of the starting area, frozen on the ground
Which is a bit weird because it's implied that Eitri is wielding it to break the Loki statues but I guess they just made the Giant Giant model and called it a day
I'm not super bothered by the overarching continuity of the AoM world or whatever because it's about as messy as a multi-mythological world could get but I figured Ajax being dead and coming back was a funny enough gag that they'd carry it through
I guess I should just be glad to see the whole gang again (minus Arkantos), I was expecting any non-Aztec characters to have a much smaller role than this
>>
>>2383294
It is fun, like I said most of the new content is solid, but it's frustrating how often the devs make stupid minor mistakes like this one.
Just in general they seem committed to actually make what people want but they always fuck up something really small but obvious that makes them look amateurish or lacking.
Like the whole Demeter Myth Units/ Hera/Amazon thing, or the blood DLC being really botched.
It's as if they are very close to making something really good everytime but lack the vision or imagination or talent to actually see it through and only ever get 90% of the way there until players or whatever come up with the rest of the concepts needed to make it feel complete.
>>
>>2383311
>until players or whatever come up with the rest of the concepts needed to make it feel complete.
I'm happy that they're responding and putting some work in to fix things instead of doing nothing at all, it would've been super easy to just drop all this content and then disappear
Obviously it's not ideal but the current landscape of videogames is so fucking abysmal I'll appreciate any effort
Maybe they'll get their act together if they ever end up making a Sumeria DLC or something

Egyptian really got the short end of the stick, makes me wonder if they are going to bother doing more of these in the future.
>>
Oh I didn't realize there was an AoM thread
I think the Aztecs in AoM might be bugged
There's almost never life force for my warrior priests to collect and that means that I can only get favor from sacrificing settlers (only viable lategame).
The Civ feels rather weak overall with their core early-game units all being quite brittle like I'm playing Egyptians but without the almost-free favor and woodless buildings
At least they have a universal drop site that's pretty cheap
>>
>>2383330
Weird, my warrior priests gather favor just fine
I did notice the pathing is a bit fucked, I think the new ambush stuff is causing issues there

I could've sworn there was a line about it, but it has been a while since I played the Chinese campaign

>>
Aztec campaign voice acting feels really fucking flat.
>>
>>2383331
Yeah playing with Aztecs some more, I think I was just expecting bigger spikes of favor when they collected.
It feels like a pittance vs what Norse can do IMO, with Norse heroes not needing re-investment to be good at killing MU's (and they're not guaranteed to die in a short period after).
The description of Aztec settlers says they're cheaper than other civs to make up for the fact that they're supposed to be sacrificed every so often, but that doesn't seem to be true. They're 50F just like Greeks, Norse, and Egyptians. I don't know what Chinese or Nip vills cost but I assume they're the same.

>>
>>2383439
Give it more time, the aztec are more convoluted than the japanese were
Also doesn't help that their mechanisms and units are just facelifted from other factions and the "tutorial" lie to you in its entirety

>they gain favor by collecting life force from fallen foes and devotion (it's just the norse favor generation with extra steps and the blood sacrifice is a terrible way to generate favor)
>they don't rely on walls and siege engines, instead using towers and traps (they can build walls just like the norses and they have a giant common myth unit that is just a catapult in disguise, also their towers doesn't produce "dread")
>they don't ride horses instead they field fast infantry (they show fucking panther riders in the same shot and their "spearman" is considered a counter-cavalry)

This is giving me flashback of Tale of the Dragon

It's a really strong unit but what you said, Aztecs don't get to Mythic.

The Aztec campaign has a very interesting take on how gods work in this universe. They didn't tend to just chill in smaller forms around humans like this.

Kind of have the same reaction, just kind of "ehh that was alright." I felt like it suffers the same like all campaigns post Fall of the Trident (& Golden Gift amazingly) and that it was too short, and needed to be a bit longer to fully develop it.
While it was nice to see them again, the old crew took a massive drop in IQ. Also, I do find it funny that Mission 6 uses Folstag on the cover, but he is nowhere present.
I was surprised how much Quetzalcoatl and to a less extent, Huitzilopochtli took a backdrop to things. Actually all the Aztec characters kind of felt sideline, except maybe Tezcatlipoca.
Though in that regard I do have some applause, Tezcatlipoca was a much more entertaining character and villain than the bad guys in the Chinese & Japanese campaign.
It was nice to fight other factions, and not have it been an Aztec mirror for 12 missions, though the reason for some of them is kind of effy.
>>
>>2384078
Oh yeah, outside of them literally just chilling in the underworld with the Aztec God of Death for a few days, I also find it funny in mission 9 where you can super saiyan a warrior priest into Quetzalcoatl.
They say the host dies because of Quetzalcoatl "great power", but in an earlier mission Tlacaelel(?) goes super saiyan into Huitzilopochtli, and he is literally fine the next mission.
>>
So are there Inca people in the campaign like people theorized since the promo art shows an Andean looking couple in the center (>>2382956), or did the devs just goof up and give them Andean inspired stuff by mistake?

Playing with the gods in the campaign is pretty fun, but they were basically the main characters of the campaign rather than the human heroes who sort of existed to do what they want indirectly.
The underworld campaign was a nothing scenario. The first scenario had way too much shit going on for a first scenario.
I did not feel the need to use a trap a single time in the campaign even if we are given really obvious times to use it in the multiple defend the spot scenarios
I like the different scenarios where we actually get to fight other pantheons and have different settings. Tez is also cool.
The ending was kinda weird

>>

Whatever I guess, but IMO the biggest problem with Aztecs is still their favor economy
I can deal with weak MU's and brittle heroes
But if I have to cannibalize my eco growth just so I can buy a tech it's a real problem

I don't get why they are trying to present tsukuyomi as some badass edgelord ronin of the night. Dude never did anything at all, much less something badass like kill the orochi or have sumo matches with the other gods. Biggest fraud in the entire pantheon.

The japanese themselves always seem to portray him as an intellectual pretty boy, or just a sissy, or a woman or a sissy woman. That's how not-badass-at-all he was.

overall I like the DLC, the Aztecs are fun their myth units and GPs are dope and their eco/favor mechanics are complex but not overly so

that said Obsidian Mirror as a story is a step down from Yasuko's Tale
Yasuko and Tatsuro have 3 missions together before they're forcefully separated and it shows you they love each other and want to get back together, meanwhile Popocatepetl and Iztaccihuatl don't even get a single line of dialogue before she gets her ass punted off to Greece and it just tells you they love each other or something
"show don't tell" is a good rule and they ignored it, and no amount of Ajax and Kastor member berries makes up for that
