1.0 is up
is this game any good nowit took like 6 years to finish for some reasoni remember it being very slow with not much content
Not a huge fan of the aestethics. That doesn't look like a space ship but more like a space Theme Hospital.
>>2402680shill me on it>>2402870yeah from ops pic, looks like a space station not a space ship
kusoge, i'm afraid
>>2402870>>2402875you can build your ships to look however you wanthowever, there is no reason to build anything but a square brick, unless you feel like cheating in which case you can build a 2:3 rectangle with 50% more space than normalstations are slightly more interesting but stations can't jump and the game is balanced around being able to jump away from threats you can't deal with
>>2402680It's like a mix of FTL (do a thing at a node, then jump to the next node) and every shitty design decision of a colony sim (mostly waiting around at max game speed for some boring shit to get done)The devs were constantly overhauling core gameplay mechanics throughout development (which is already a very bad sign), but this tedious pattern has not changed.
The gun turret sprites all default to pointing down the the left so i wanna build my ship pointing in that direction to make it look nice but relative to the galactic map you're mostly moving towards 'the right'
My fat barge i made several years agoMaybe it will be worth returning but apparently they didn't fully finish the game? Like even though it's the 1.0 release there's still placeholder stuff left unaddressed like the most advanced blocks still not being used for anything even though they said it would beBut i guess.. steam workshop support is nice..
>>2402907>however, there is no reason to build anything but a square brickThis is one of my big gripes, ship design is meaningless and there's no incentive to be creative outside of ePeening screenshots (which everyone cheats for). Really needs a skeleton system where the 'frame' of the ship is fixed and there's a limit in how far you can build away from it. Would give you a better reason to jump ships (bigger/better frame layouts) and make you feel like you're building a ship and not just another generic slab.
>>2402723Would also like to know.I like the spacestation gameplay until the difficulty curve reasserted itself whereby the threats ramp up just as fast as you grow and if you "restart" in a new sector, the difficult doesn't and you're facing giant robot, alien and pirate raids from day zero.I remember the spacestation service meters also having two layers to them but never showing you what they mean... I think one of them was disapproval but it never goes away after you do a good job, and you have to keep closing your doors because ships keep draining you of resources and giving negative reviews when the hotel system gives no complaints when you have no rooms left and is a lot more reasonable to provide for.
>>2402875One of those 1.0 but still early access crap games
I can't go back after I've experienced Stardeus. It's early access and more rimworld like, but it mogs all other spaceship sims
>tfw when jump light oddesy got canned.God damn I was so excited for that game. That one would have been a game changer.
>>2403807https://store.steampowered.com/app/1893820/Jumplight_Odyssey/this? damn looks kino
>>2403748It MOGS them all, you say?I may have to gog-games it
>>2402680>EA>Slow as fuck development>1.0 is an unfinished game, but it's OKAY because MOD SUPPORTI hope they never make another game again.
>>2403748>StardeusDoes the dev exhibits any balance-nigger behavior?
>>2404655for me its skidrowreloaded>>2404876I don't know, take a look at the community feed. hes about to overhaul the UIhttps://steamcommunity.com/app/1380910
>>2404957>take a look at the community feedI did, but it's hard to say how impactful the stuff he changes is since I haven't played the game. In other words, I lack context and knowledge to arrive at any useful or accurate conclusions. Regardless, not a bad rec. Seems interesting so I'll keep an eye on it.
expanding the hull and having to rebuild walls every fucking time sucks. also the planning mode is a joke.(having fun)
New blog post.>Once again we would like to thank you all for being with us and playing our game. It really is awesome to see and it's just something special to experience as a developer of the game. So thank you! After that preamble, they claim they are looking for volunteer testers and that they are going to continue the development after bug fixing. Not to be nigger about it, but why "release" the game and leave early access if it's unfinished?
>>2408044to sell base features as dlc
Bought it yesterday, i'm a huge colony sim fan and this game is really good, it's not as deep as rimworld let's say but worth the price.
>>2408409>worth the priceThis means nothing. Couldn't pick less descriptive expression.
>>2408044To finally play a finished game you have to wait 10 years after its "release". Speaking of it, 2026 is the year to finally go at Witcher 3, I guess.
>>2409235>Speaking of it, 2026 is the year to finally go at Witcher 3, I guess. You sure? I tried last year and dropped it at the excessive cringe in the introduction.
>>2408484lol
>>2409253Oh my god you're so based you do fit in here bro fr fr
The game is... kinda fun. If you start on Brutal, it can be quite difficult in places, but if you just run away from anything that is too tough for you, keep boarding and pillaging smaller cultist or pirate ships, you'll still trivialise the game in no time. There really wasn't much thought put into progression, frankly. And the tech tree is more of a shrub, no depth, no real upgrade paths, no real customization. Mining is a useless waste of time, the optimal way to play is as a privateer- board slavers and pirates, take their crews capture, ransom them to the Military faction, loot their ships. Station building missions are great, too, you get a ton of resources left over after completing the necessary buildings that you can transfer to your ship before releasing the station. Oh and you almost always end up with a brick for a ship, unless you try really hard not to, for no gain whatsoever.
>>2412634>a useless waste of timeno u
>>2404872>slow as fucklol lemme tell you about a game called 'starsector'
>>2408484Are you an extraterrestrial or completely clueless rich/poor person alienated from the general economy? No? So you understand in broad terms the concept of value for money, right?Dont ever open your mouth to speak such dumb shit again
Can i make my ship's main corridors 3 squares wide and just stick solar panels down the entire length of the hallway? will that mess something up?
>>2418016NTA but PC games are all so cheap and I'm fairly busy, so my time and attention investment is really all I care about when it comes to whether a game is "worth it"
>>2418016Value of money is arbitrary.Value of video games is arbitrary.Time is an illusion. You are saying absolutely NOTHING.If you took even 1 minute to actually think before hitting "Post" button, maybe you'd realize what a giant retard you are. >inb4 b-b-b-but...No you are a retard. I hope a nigger breaks your finger so that you can't post anymore.
>>2418012>lol lemme tell you about a game called 'starsector'Starsector is slow af if you play it like a good man. But, if you drop the morals and start smuggling drugs, harvested organs and selling heavy weapons to the terrorist community you'll be in a position to burn through content in no time.
>>2419564development pace, retard
>>2418012the quality of the updates make up for it though
>>2419180If everything is arbitrary, fake and gay, why not just kill yourself?
>>2420830Not him but, killing yourself is kind of failing the class. Fundamentally this planet in this 3d geometric spacetime reality is about learning
>>2420830You first.
did they do something to make research useful after you researched everything? Like those research-speicalized crew members, can they do something more after they cleared the whole tree? Throw them out the airlock?Should have something like passive credit income when working at the lab still, i dunno you got some outsourced work given to you by the eden fleet people or whatever Or a mod at least...
>>2419564whats your skin color, just curious
Ultimately there isn't enough content/gameplay here
>>2422858Weirdly enough... Yes? You just kind of of build up "your" Space Haven™ that will be practically like any other Space Haven™... And that's that. If I had to make a youtube video to shill the game, I can't say there anything cool to show off... It looks good, I guess?
Huh? You can have 9 ship sectors?I thought it was a maximum of 8, and the largest you could have was 2x3 and you had 2 left over for a second ship
Thats it i gotta play rimworld again.
>>2428551No... Edge it till DLC comes out.
>>2428565*paid low-quality knockoff mod
>>2419564you don't even have to do that. you just buy a dram tanker and book it to deep space and rob everything from research stations. rich as fuck in about a half hour
I should replay this one of these days. Early access was already very polished and had an end goal.
>>2449005Rate my old boat
>>2403748>StardeusIs it actually any good? How does it compare to Rimworld SOS2? Space Haven? Or other games in the genre?
>>2449012
>>2402680>>2449012So spaceships are either balls or dicks?
>>2449035no idea, but I've seen the dev live streaming himself coding and doing work on the game pop up in my algo. So at least he's transparent and showing the work.
>>2449035Tried Stardeus today. It didn't hook me like Space Haven did. Its design feels very derivative. Take this from Rimworld, that from Starsector, etc. It lacks its own cohesive identity.Production values are also quite amateurish and all over the place, whereas Space Haven is a bit more unified. But more than that, Stardeus seems to suffer from "everything and the kitchen sink" design with no regard to what actually adds value to gameplay and what's just tedium or clutter. So you have stuff like power poles that you have not only manually link to each other, but also manually link to literally every powered device. Probably three times more different power poles than in Factorio. And countless different ways to do the linking via the UI. A smarter designer would just have culled the entire system at its infancy and went with something faster to implement and more fun to play with.I like Space Haven's RTwP combat micro much better than that of Rimworld clones. They're very similar by all means but the devil is in the details. Can't say much about ship combat since I didn't get that far yet and the tutorial wasn't very deep. But enemy ships appearing as singular sprites rather than the real block-by-block shipform is just lame and kinda antithetical to the genre. But Stardeus does have a few cool things going for it, like the ability to pull disconnected parts onto your ship and attach them to it. Very few block starship building games offer a proper ability to move subgrids like that.It also has modded Rimworld's extreme pawn modifying autism which probably adds quite a bit of lategame minmaxing opportunities to your crew, but honestly I'm not terribly excited about it.It's not excellent, but it's worth trying if you like these games. I'm gonna play a few days more to see if it gets bette past the earlygame.
