My first run through I built two archers and didnt stop till the world was united under my flag. After taking the first nation out it was routine. Second try I am going for religious victory. Having a tough time. Researching Astronomy and building the Holy site is a terrible setback militarily.playing one notch below immortal difficulty on a huge map.TLDNR: Military vic too easy, religious vic too hard. Any advise is appreciated. Especially early in the game.Is it possible to win religious vic without founding a religion? What results from capturing a Holy City? What if you demolish a Holy City? Why is the civopedea so incomplete?
>>2404230>TLDNR: Military vic too easy, religious vic too hard. Religious Victory can be the fastest victory ever depending on the civ you play and the opponents. From the OP I assume you played with Basil who is one of the strongest military leaders so of course you found Military victory too easy.>Any advise is appreciated. Especially early in the game. This is too generic of a question you need to be more specific.>Is it possible to win religious vic without founding a religion? You cannot win a religious victory without founding a religion, that is the whole point of that victory type.>What results from capturing a Holy City? If you mean militarily then nothing specific really other than the standard benefits of the city. You need to "Convert" the holy city to your founded religion to gain the combat bonuses of Byzantium. And also gain a huge era score.>What if you demolish a Holy City?Other than the standard effects of demolishing a city not much save for locking Byzantium out of the bonus they could get from converting it.
>>2404230religious victory isn't hard, just tedious. If you pick cheaper religion units and build faith districts you will win through attrition.
>>2404230Dunno what's tripping you up. Military victory works hand-in-hand with religious victory since inquisitors can work on your conquered cities and you can remove/ward off enemy holy units with your military.>Researching Astronomy and building the Holy site is a terrible setback militarilyYou mean astrology? I assume you have trouble dealing with early rushes. Stick to settling your 2nd city on a resource to get it instantly and build slingers before you research the archer tech. AIs are retarded enough for you to beat down long enough to get the monumentality snowball going.
>>2404792I played Lincoln for the military vic, I'm trying Basil for the religious vic.>>2404968The early rush caught me by surprise. When I build the Holy site instead of another unit, it seems the AI can tell I'm weak and they declare war on me. It happens every time if I go for a Holy site or Stonehedge. They leave me alone if I am a bit stronger.
>>2405165Basil is for Military Victory, if you want Religious Victory play Theoroda if you play Byzantium. Or for other civs Khmer, Poland, Russia, Georgia, Ethiopia.
>>2404230>play arabia>play arabia again>play arabia yet againLove freestyling with this civilization. You can do as you please from start to finish.
>>2405165 The AI gets 3 warriors at game start, so you have to build up a military while researching astrology and before building your holy site. Preferably animal husbandry as horses are an early source of hammers. When defending, get promotions on your archers asap. Also consider levying city state units t. tried Theodora on emperor and had Cleopatra next door. 2hko'd her chariots with archers and got a religion + golden age
>>2405165Oh, and make sure to chop with Magnus in your target city. Hell, consider declaring war first to steal workers while their military are out of position. AIs will bitch less if you make CB-less wars without stealing cities in the long run, anyways. There's a ton of optimizations you can do, but we can't read your mind unless you're more specific.
>>2405165>>2404792Basil is perfectly fine choice for religious victory, you only miss out on his wall breaking ability but the Tagma cavalry can play a huge support role for your religious units provided you have open borders and can have them go into enemy territory. Basil still has the Taxis ability becasue that comes from the cvilization not the leader and it is a powerhouse in religious combat.
