>>2404243Empire Earth. Probably... might have played AoE2 prior to this on a classmate's PC. it's been a long time
>>2404243Starcraft 64Shockingly enough it was so good to my 8 year old self it started my lifelong appreciation for the genre
>>2404243If Mega-Lo-Mania counts as RTS then this.If not then probably Utopia: The Creation of NationBoth from 1991
>>2404243starcraft brood war
>>2404243
>>2404243Rise of Nations
command and conquer N64 edition
why the fuck did the N64 get so many RTS ports?
>>2404686Because it has the ideal controller layout for RTS games.
Tribal Rage (post apocalyptic RTS with many factions and editor)Great Win95 era
>>2404243Legionaire by Avalon Hill for the Atari 8-bit.
>>2404243kknd i think.
Probably Warcraft 2 or Command and Conquer
command and conquer or warcraft or populous. i'm honestly not sure, too old
Probably battle realms. I remember playing aoe1 afterwards and being very confused as to why my villagers wouldn't go into the barracks to train
>>2404746to add to this, i think it was the first one because i definitely remember playing it as if i didn't know what a selection box was. i built like 30 units and i inched them forward one by one in the direction of the enemy base, moving at maybe a fifth of a screen per click. i don't remember if i ever beat the first mission but if i did, i must have felt insanely elated.so if you're wondering why rts tutorials to this day have basic shit like an explanation of a selection box, it's for literal children or people who have never touched an rts before. though i think adults would realize that there must be a better way to do it than moving one unit forward at a time even if they hadn't played an rts before
>>2404391Fellow Tiberian Sun initiate, excellent.
>>2404243Tiberian Dawn
Halo wars
Dune 2, IIRCAlthough I did so at a time when shit like WC2 and CnC:RA were already around
Either Starcraft or Warcraft 2, can't say for certain.
>>2404401gamer dad in IT during the 1990s
Age of Mythology
>>2404243age of empires
>>2404243warcraft 2
>>2404243If Gruntz counts, it was Gruntz. Otherwise, Dark Reign was the first one I remember buying.
starcraft, i saw the box in the store didnt know what it was or what a rts was
Rise of NationsThen Empire Earth, Settlers 3, Zeus: Master of Olympus and Rise of Legends
I cant recall if it was Age of mythology or Star Wars empire at war
Rage of Mages
>>2404243America: no peace beyond the line
>>2404664my brotherthat was left handed!
>>2404243AoE2, my classroom when i was 7 had a computer in a back and we could play Akanoid, Tomb Raider and AoE2 during breaksWe had no idea how to play, i remember kids trying to figure out on to build stuff (they thought they had to bring more wood and stone to the construction instead of having the builders work on it)It's a nice memory
Warcraft 1/2 and warwind 1/2, then kknd 1/2 and dune. All on fucking bootlegged discettes or whatever you call em. Yes I'm ancient
>>2404486>Disk 1/5Right in the boomernostaligafeels

>>2404243Dungeon Keeper.
>>2404243Toss up between this >>2404651 and American conquest goated game atleast in my kid brain memories.Im sure if I replay it the flaws will come out.

>>2404243C&C for the N64
>>2404415>>2404588>>2405824>>2408381>>2409242basado

>>2404243either warcraft 2 or red alert, not sure
Dune 2
Knights and merchants
Lego Rock Raiders
In unknown order: Dune 2Warcraft 1Syndicate
>>2404243Warcraft 2 most likely
>>2404243AoE 1
Myth: The Fallen Lords on my grandfather's mac.
Dune (1992)
If you consider Sea Battle for the Intellivision an RTS, then that.Otherwise, it would either be Warcraft 2 or C&C: Red Alert. Don't remember which was first.
>>2404243 either settlers 1 or dune 2 on amiga
>>2404486same here dawg, although i played it on an ibm 386 running dos
Settlers 1. The opening animation was so fucking dope.
cnc ps1
>>2404243Star Wars: Empire at War.This was also one of the first PC games I ever played, and the first one I officially owned, at the ripe old age of eight. I still vividly remember the excitement I had when I figured out I could also play as the Empire within the campaign and skirmish matches.I picked this over Total War: Empire at a Walmart. I'm real happy I ended up picking the Star War, because eight year old me would have have probably been grossly overwhelmed and disappointed trying to learn the Total War all by myself.I still play it to this day.
>>2404243The first Starcraft via a pirated copy burned to an unmarked CD my uncle sent me in the mail when I was like 6.
>>2404243Lego Battles. The DS mostly had tactical RPGs, but it was probably the best console for RTS.
>>2404243AOE 1 or Settlers 2. I can't remember which.
so many uncs and boomers here
Dune 2000 or Command and Conquer, got both around the same time when I got a home computer
StarCraft 2 just as it came out because I was 8 at the time and my uncle showed it to me. Actually it was my second video game ever, the first being Anno 1701, also shown to me by that same uncle
>>2404243AoE2
>>2404243AoE1 demo
>>2404243Red Alert.
>>2404243Whichever c&c is on the n64. Goddamn that game was terrible in hindsight but I thought it kicked ass back then.
>>2404243Age of Mythology.I had no idea how spoiled I was at the time.
Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2
Dune II on Sega Genesisthe first PC one is definitely Dune2k
>>2414024I remember this, it was the first RTS I actually completed, wish the unit path finding was better and you could select more than 9 units at a time
>>2404243Cossacks: European Wars (or maybe Back to War? Can't recall)
>>2404486>>2407645>RTS from the 90sChildren, please
>>2419948Let me get your Ensure shake gramps, I know you get cranky without it.
>>2419948Looks pretty cool
>>2419948Somewhat similar setup to Autumn War Flash game, huh.
>>2404243Majesty 2 on my phone when I was like 14
>>2404527Do you like 2160?
>>2420269Not particularly. While it had some interesting ideas, it was overall a janky, short, disappointing continuation that ended on a cliffhanger and aged poorly. I remember preferring to play the unpatched version because patches would fix one thing and break another.
>>2407632Similar for me. School computers had both aoe1 and 2. Then I got my own AOE2 copy and became a history nerd.
>>2404486Same. But it was my Dad's Amiga 1200.
>>2404243Age of Empires 1That one demo level where you start with one priest similar to holy man is seared into my brain.
>>2404243Probably either warcraft 3 or the console version of the first command and conquer
Warrior of Rome 2 (Sega) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warrior_of_Rome_II
>>2404243The very first one. A Herzog Zwei rental on a friend's Megadrive.
>>2404243Necromanthus Warcraft and StarCraft flash action before I knew how to install games.
Was either Swarm Assault or Populous 1, I can't really remember which.
AoE Rise of Rome. My older cousin introduced it to me back in the late 90s. It blew his mind when I told him about the competitive AoE2 scene.
>be me>it's year 2000, little boy still going to kindergarten>older brother is sitting very close to his new TV screen>ask him, he says it's his new computer>he doesn't elaborate much; his face expresses distraction and ignorance to my requests>see for myself what he is doing>colorful little people, horses, buildings; everything moves and has something to say>"If you shut your mouth, you can watch me playing.">"You are playing? What are you playing?">"This is a videogame called Age of Empires 2.">ffw couple days>sitting beside older brother and watch him playing for hours becomes habbit>want to watch more of the game after kindergarden>older brother is hanging out with his friends>sadpepe.jpg>go into his room and try to remember what he usually does to start the game>little shithead that can't even read yet, can't even remember the game title (first language isn't english)>click the helmet icon with the red feathers on it>AoE2 main menue appears, legendary theme starts playing>fumble around until something happens>game starts>I'm like my older brother now>corememoryunlocked.gif>mother finds me shortly after>get a slap on the bum, brother is super pissed>"Why were you on my computer? You don't know how to use it, you can break stuff, you shouldn't even know how to start the PC. Who started it for you?">tell them the truth, I did it by myself; they don't belive me>"Impossible!" - they demanded prove for my words>spotlight on me>parents are super proud and remember this story to this day>brother is cool now with me playing AoE2 from time to timeYou have gifted me the best childhood meomories one could ever wish for. Thank you mom, dad and brother.
>>2404243Castles II: Siege and Conquest
>>2425882
>>2404243Dune 2. I'm in my 30s and these people got me hooked early. I was a tiny child and mostly watched my dad play it to be fair but it still counts.
>>2404243Anno 1602
>>2404243warcraft 1
>>2404243Lego Rock Raiders
Propably Red alert
Tiberian Dawn
Age of Mythology.
>>2410486>Syndicateused to watch my older brother play this as a kid...first one I played myself was prolly Warcraftit's crazy how memory plays tricks on you....I remember playing Warcraft for ages before Warcraft II was released. But they were only 1 year apart, now that I look at the release dates
>>2404243Either Age of Empires 1 or Starcraft 1, which one was first is fuzzy>>2414088Unc and boomer genre desu, considering that most devs just straight up stopped making new rts after 00s
>>2404243Crystalien conflict on lego.com, around 2007If that doesn't count (it should!) then either AoE 3 or SC2, I can't remember.
>>2429770For me, the definitive Lego experience washttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1p59keZUG5E
How is everyone on this board a million years oldThough, seeing how fucked other videogame boards are, you uncs are alright
>>2429836its an elegant genrefrom a more civilized time
>>2429836I have been playing video games for over 50 years
>>2429836The heyday for citybuilders and RTS games were the late 90's and early 00's, only recently there was a resurgence with the rise of indies over AAA. If you were born in 2000, you'd likely have no experience with classic RTS titles unless you played World in Conflict. More likely you played Starcraft, assfaggots, or Red Alert 3 or something.
age of empires I think
C&C Red Alert Disk I found in a smoke house
>>2404243command and conquer shortly followed by red alert
>>2426300same here only it was command and conquer. We didn't have a pc until 96. Good times.
a game called Reflux, from what i read it was called Robo Rumble in the west but im sure litearly no1 outside of Poland even knows bout this one
>>2434852A neat idea. If it was made today, this kind of customizable unit construction with a focus on solving puzzles would make for a solid indie fotm.
