GSC RTS Games - Cossacks 1/2/3; American Conquest/Fight Back/Divided Nation; Alexander; Heroes of Annihilated EmpiresSo I've tried out pretty much all of these and they're all nearly unplayable, except Cossacks 3. Anyone have any experience with these games? Are there any mods that make them playable? The last one I tried was AC:FB, and it was painfully slow due to the economy throttling everything. At least Cossacks 3 lets you exchange resources which makes the game playable.
>>2405284C1 is very much market based, all you have to do is inflate the exchange rate. C2 has fixed rates and is slower than the rest.
I don't like the way units move, it doesn't feel rightOther than that the game looks great
>>2405284Cossacks 2 is fun in campaign mode
>>2405667You mean the Battle for Europe mode or the actual campaigns? BfE is fun, yeah, and you don't really have to manage the economy in RTS mode.
>>2405284I like playing the EW1 mod (also known as HEW, or Hawks European Warfare) for American Conquest, Fight Back. The internet servers are back up and running so matches are frequent. Battles tend to range from 10-20k troops, with updates being added regularly again.
>>2418781The mod seems to take a lot of cues from Cossacks 2 looking from the screenshots, or at least the time period and UI. Which make me wonder why, I can only assume making mods for Cossack 2 is a lot more tricky than for the previous game, right?
>>2405284sucks to suck
>>2419013Yeah, pretty much. It runs on AC:FB, but it deliberately takes cues from Cossacks II and tries to combine the best parts of both games. My understanding is that AC:FB was simply a much better base for a large total conversion. The older engine had a more established modding scene, whereas Cossacks II modding seems to be more awkward. EW1 also started development around 2003, so it actually predates the finished release of Cossacks II.

>>2405667Still waiting for 2 remake.
>>2418781How are playable nations? Because I find Cossacks 2 roster somewhat lacking. The biggest one for sure are Ottomans. Scandinavia countries could have been also a nice addition. Instead we got Rhine Confederacy, which I'm not sure has that many fans.
>>2419215It depends on if you intend to play it with standard Cossacks maps or our player made battles. For standard random maps there are a lot of factions like the Ottomans, USA, Rhine, and Haiti to play with. For our player battles we do have some Ottoman maps like Alexandria, Abukir, etc. Standard Ottoman infantry is pretty shit but they have neat horse archers and mamluke cav. Overall, especially recently I would say that the unit variety has improved considerably. Our upcoming update also is going to allow Ai to battle on player made maps due to recent engine and Ai improvements.
>>2418781is it fun against ai?
>>2405284Only thing I remember from cossacks is playing it on lan with a friend when I was a kid and making 100 swordsman who all died to a singular (1) pikeman who held his spear out for them to run at him Strange game
>>2420703For version 1.25, no. The AI exists for standard cossacks maps but isnt very useful on single player or mission maps. For 1.26 however large improvements have been made. AI squares, moves for objectives, attempts to flank, takes advantage of artillery, etc. It isn't perfect, but it is a massive improvement over what it was previously, and is going to improve further after 1.26 releases.
