What's the most important strategy game mod ever made?My vote is for HPM, because it led directly to the creation of this board.
MENTAL OMEGA
Really? You really think HPM had that big of an impact? This ... this really makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. :)
>>2406690>because it led directly to the creation of this board.Wasn't /v/ /v/alkanized because abib wanted to move off video game discussion from /v/ for his dear old Nintendo slop?
>>2406690>HPMYou're not supposed to mention that name.
>>2406690mental omega no doubt
>>2406690HotA or DotA
>>2406914Anything but create a tendie containment board. They got one for pokemon but still flood /v/ with inane porn dump threads daily.
>>24066901.13 for Jagged Alliance 2 since I think that many people get JA2 packaged with it. Perhaps not that important though as JA2 isn't itself that "important" these days. First thing that came to mind though. Diplomacy for Warband basically became the new base for any other module. If your module didn't have diplomacy (or dickplomacy which somehow became the most complete version for a while, even if you weren't interested in porn) integrated then it wasn't worth playing. If you count maps, then obviously DOTA for WC3, one of two sub-genres that spawned out of mods. Other being class/hero-shooters with Team Fortress.>>2406914Pretty much. It's not necessarily known, but it's at least widely believed that Abib was the one to balkanize /v/. Being an old PMfag, the in-joke was that Abib thought Lobotomy Corporation was an RPG, so /vrpg/ was made first, before he realized that it's a strategy game. You knew when he got on because on-topic PM threads on /v/ would always 404 around the same time of day. It being the sole cause is unlikely, since /vm/ and /vmg/ came after. But he probably didn't like some particular strategy games, rpgs and multiplayer games, since they are rather odd choices for genres otherwise, so moving them would be two birds, one stone. Slightly slower /v/ and he didn't have to constantly delete threads for games he didn't like. /vmg/ was just spillover /vg/

>>2406690>What's the most important strategy game mod ever made?Unfortunately it's Dota, or maybe Aeon of Strife for Starcraft 1. They're important because they fucked up RTSes and strategy genre at large.
>>2406690The Babylon 5 mod for Star Trek Armada
>>2406690Mental Omega
>>2406690Dotakind of obvious, regardless of how mad it makes you
>>2409069This was the semen that inseminated this board show respect.
>>2406690If you count custom game modes as mods (which they pretty much are anyway), DotA had objectively the biggest impact on the genre of any mod ever. I'll not go into whether that's a good thing or not, but you literally can't name a single mod that's been more influential. Most mods, even big ones, barely even influence their own game beyond a small niche of players. DotA spun off into an entire new genre and multiple successful stand-alone games.
What was the first tug of war mod? That Direct Strike, Hero Line Wars, Castle Fight, etc. game mode.
>>2413924I think there was one for RoCit had like children's backyard theme, where units were named after toys like gundams
obviously Long War because it's the only one that normal people have played
>>2415652Most "normal people" haven't even played the base game, let alone installed a mod for extra challenge.
>>2406690ChessIt's a mod of Chaturanga and influenced every other strategy game still played today.
>>2406733This but non-ironicly and not said just as an easy bait attempt for triggering some anti-RotR schizo making any discussions about MO & RotR virtually impossible, also Zero Hour Shockwave & Contra Remix for me personally.
