hey anons, what are your favorite Total War mods? Been playing a few (very few actually) Medieval 2 ones. I like Insularis Draco and Total War: Elder Scrolls + Unofficial patch + Tamriel Enhanced. These submods makes the game less insane at the cost of the game being slower and more small scaled and i'm pretty sure a few units are missing. Anyways
>Testing the mod out so i play the easiest faction (Daggerfall)
>As any good Breton should, i decide to wage war against orcs
>conquer all the puny Breton kingdoms until i reach Orsinium
>Destroy all of it, rename it Bretonbull after the virile BRETON BVLLS currently breeding out a new generation of Breton-Orc ubermensches
>Daedra invade
>Use suicidal cav charges and a fuck ton of mages to push them back during sieges
>Mod has oblivion travel option
>Go into Oblivion with a diplomat and 5 merchants
>make insane bank off of Ebony mines
>Sell whatever Orcish settlement i conquer to Daedra
>Just sort of bored right now, most of the other cool new game events like the Maormer invasion or Wild Hunt don't really touch Highrock
>Most Advanced Faction constantly pendulums between me and fucking Valenwood somehow
>Send a diplomat to Cyrodiil
>holy shit this place is a clusterfuck, there's just hordes of undead and multiple rump states killing each other after the Emperor died
>Thalmor dont even do anything
>Continue making the most prosperous society on Tamriel
>>
>>2415072
im pretty sure diplomacy is just insanely broken or something, i keep exterminating populaces and shit but everyone is constantly at a reasonable 5/10. definitely unfinished but it's really fun. I think i want to play Bosmer or a Dunmer house next, i wonder if they can let you play Telvanni.
>>
Anyone tried that? How stability with other mods?
https://github.com/Pannoniae/rex
>>
Warcraft Total War is really fun and doesnt run slow. Stormwind is a great tutorial campaign because you are only in a two front war.
>>
>>2415072
I had fun with THERA-Legacy of the Great Torment, Hyrule Total War and Call of Warhammer.
>>
I really like DAC:AGO for Medieval 2, because of the sheer amount of features, which notably includes the Med2 engine overhaul
https://www.divide-and-conquer-ago.com/features/
>>
>>2415094
What does the overhaul do?
>>
>>2415137
The engine overhaul project for Med2 does stuff like fixing vanilla bugs, makes AI less retarded, AI will make big armies instead of running around with a million shitter stacks of like 5 units, AI allies help you in battles and sieges (by default their AI completely turns off you both border a faction together), AI gets stuck in battles less, AI will attack multiple castle gates and walls in sieges
>>
>>2415072
In the og Medieval TW, I increased the firing rate and projectile speed of the arquebus to turn it into machine guns.

the implications of this image are so insanely funny. Using the Oblivion travel feature btw.
>>
>>2415094
Yeah AGO is great, mostly because of the EoP
Tsardoms 3 is releasing in a few hours and will also use EoP
Hoping it will be a real good time

Europa Barbarorum. Not the 2nd one for MTW2 engine, that sucked.
>>
>>2416109
Comparison?
>>
>>2415072
One of the mods with which I had the most fun in this game.
>>
Played pretty much all of the M2TW mods. I'd recommend Stainless Steel, Broken Crescent, and Third Age Total War. Only two I still play are SS and BC.
>>

This is what my current map looks like, Diplomacy somehow comes off as even more broken than Vanilla because my ally Shornhelm as not betrayed me once. Been fighting the Eastern Hold Nords who are basically the Stormcloaks at this point in the timeline considering the Thalmor are active now. Anyways, the Easthold Nords are fucking bullshit to fight because most of their troops have silver or golden chevrons for some reason. Their Western counterparts (solitude) can't even fight them, the Empire is having a hard time fighting them too. It's crazy. So yeah, most of Craglorn at this point is probably a wasteland with how much we fight there, the Reachmen can't even do anything, they're just a horde now. I don't know how and i don't know why but even after all the exterminations the Orsimer are still around. I'm pretty sure Shornhelm is just sending endless numbers of men trying to destroy their last stronghold or something.
>>
BoTet. And the 3.0 version comes out next month. A true Warhammer fantasy experience not the lukewarm shit from creative assembly.
>>
>try new Tsardoms version
>Fall of Constantinople crashes constantly
Oh well. I guess I will just play SS or Third Age again.
>>
You guys looking forward to the RTR Imperium Surrectum update? Looking really good from what ive seen.
>>
>>2426545
Not really. The mod is bloated as fuck and the campaign isn't fun to play.
>>
Fantastical conversion mods offering new settings and factions >>> historical mods making the game 20% more historically accurate and 200% more boring and irritating

I played the shit out of Insularis Draco recently. The amount of effort and detail put into that mod is incredible. It makes modern CA look like complete amateurs in comparison (see: thrones of britannia)

Yes. Romans, EB-style govt buildings, every province being unique in what they can build. A history buffs wet dream. The republic units look beautiful, cant wait to see what the legions look like.

Wat? I wasted all day yesterday until I gave up. Tell me what I need to do. I sunk in too much time. I had the perfect copy which worked on DaC a few years back but DaC just worked by using the .bat not a new program like EOP that seems to be corrupting the exe for me with the 0xc000 error

I assume you mean the steam files? The crack should still have an exe.
>help
Do you have a kingdoms.exe? If not make a copy of your medieval 2 exe and rename it to kingdoms.exe. And why are you using a steam crack for a 20 year old game?
>>
>>2428456
Crack doesn't have an exe. It's the steam api dll and an ini file. Somehow, I can play all the dlcs from kingdoms. The problem is eop somehow fucks up the exe
>why using steam crack
I was retarded enough to download it. And the perfect copy I had is gone since my old hardisk went under.
>rename to kingdoms
Tried it. Didn't work
>>
>>2415072
Stainless steel.
>>
Rule Britannia was the last one I played and pretty good, a more indepth version of the vanilla Britannia campaign.
>>2428539
2nd this, most ive evenr got into any Total War campaigns.
>>
>>2428539
I just wish sship didn't give archers such massive range. It's like they don't understand that the maximum range and the effective range aren't the same.
>>
>>2430006
I like Stainless steel but I hate the SSHIP and titanium versions, they go to far and make it a depressing and tedious game to play. I want total war but good, not a modder trying to turn it into their own game.
>>
>>2430287
That is true. Well, kind of. I like mods that add more factions and make units look more historical, but I generally dislike campaign mechanics autism.
That said, SSHIP I didn't find that hard, you just hire mercs and push, once you take out one faction it gets fairly easy.
>>
>>2430006
SSHIP is completely fucked with both the campaign scripts and the unit costs/upkeep
>>
>sship
You know for a mods trying to improve the historical accuracy they sure haven't done a lot to actually improve the unit roosters. Renaming some units and factions isn't going to make the mod more historical.
>>
There are two types of M2TW mods:
>Vanilla+ Mods
Attempts to refine the base game while still feeling vanilla
>Autism Difficulty Mods
The game has a bunch of esoteric mechanics you need to read a manual to understand while at the same time giving the AI many cheats like infinite money, instantly spawning armies, lower construction and recruitment times in order to "balance" the AI.
>>
>>2415077
I main Stormwind pretty hard and have for years now. I'm tired of trying to make the Alliance work and so now I'm running a big Hotseat Campaign as multiple factions, including the Scourge and Horde as well. Goals are pretty simple
>play through the various canon events of Classic WoW
>fight the Scourgewar i.e. the events of WotLK
>begin an intercontinental war between the Alliance & Horde, see who wins
PicRel was my last turn on a Stormwind run two versions of the mod ago. VH/VH. I meant to keep going but a new version came out and I wanted to try Hotseating. I haven't cracked the game up in a while tho. I think I might get back into it.
>>
>>2416109
I tried so hard to get into EB2 but honestly I hate feeling like I need to read multiple essays to understand what I should and should not do. It's a banger mod and one day I'll crack into it again.
>>
>>2418021
>Stainless Steel
Peep this map from the version we had in the 2010s. VH/VH w/ Byg's Grym Reality Submod. Took six years off and on of my actual life.
>>
>>2418339
Finally a real one who fucking knows. BOTET & CoW are far superior to anything CA makes. They're actual strategy games.
>>
>>2427242
Not all the historical mods are like that. Some of them do entirely too much, but they're there at least when you are in the mood for them.

How about Fantastical conversion mods offering new settings and factions AND making it 2000% more irritating and frustrating?
I still love this mood tho.
>>
>>2418021
>Stainless Steel
Was a while since I played, does heavy cavalry still destroy everything it so much as breaths at?
>>
>>2415094
Fair warning, at least on any difficulty above normal this mod massively ramps up AI economies and recruitment. You are never going to beat a faction by taking all its cities, if they have as much as one village they will be shitting out stacks from it. Also if you win too much against a faction they will get a scripted doomstack of high tier units.
>>
>>2440306
>dac
Too much fan fiction and nonsensical units. They may as well make a generic fantasy mod if they aren't actually trying to stay true to the books.
>>
>>2440328
I don't think you find people to put thousands of manhours into making a game about someone original work. And if they stayed true to the books everything in the west outside of Gondor would be mostly empty apart from a few towns and some villages.
>>
>>2440340
>translation: we can't write and would rather mess with someone else's work
There are plenty of mods with their own settings and the original third age still managed to keep mostily in line with actual movies. Dac adds entire factions that Tolkien has explicitly stated to no longer exist by the late third era like the Kings Men.
>>
>>2440345
If you don't like the mod, don't play it.
I used to play Third Age a bit but I didn't really get that far into it. It's a great mod desu but honestly I just couldn't get all the way into it.
>>
>>2440345
>>translation: we can't write
Yeah, Most people can't write on the level of Tolkien. Great observation.
> and would rather mess with someone else's work
What does it matter? The filmes were enough to make Tolkien roll in the grave.
> the original third age still managed to keep mostily in line with actual movies.
Where do you put the boundary for acceptable deviation? Because including mount Gunbad is fanfiction since they were genocided in the battle of five armies and Arnor is fan fiction for obvious reasons
>>
Steam & Steel Campaign as the CSA. VH/VH. Battle of Nebraska; British Empire marched a big fuck-off stack down into the Plains and I sent the Army of Texas up under James Longstreet to thrash their Britbong Bussies. Fun battle. There was a hill on my far left flang the British right was at the base of. I used Cavalry to flank them out and it absolutely raped them with carbines and sabres. So I was able to roll it up and move all my infantry into a better position to engage. Cavalry knocked out there artillery batteries and the infantry on the Right carried the battle and the mass-rout of half their army really did a number on their fighting capacity.

This is a really fun mod btw for the period. Battles work really well. It's a totally different style of fighting and if you learn it, it's incredibly fun.

>>
>>2440689
Some of it is, yeah. If you ask me it's a side-effect of its ambitious nature. But it's an unforgettable experience and legitimately enjoyable. It blows Empire for example totally out of the water. The AI is actually competent to challenge you in battles for one.

This ain't Rome 2 or Warhammer anon, Med 2 has real verticality on non-siege maps. You fight on a mountain YOU WILL GET THE MOUNTAIN

It's hard af to find people who are as autistic as me about TW mods. Fuck it, I've gone out and redownloaded a bunch of them and I'm gonna start binging campaigns and reviving some I haven't touched in a while.

Wish me look frens. Let's keep posting those campaign updates.
>>
>>2447772
I unironically love this. I love how how the battlemap reflects your position on the campaign map, even when it's jank.
>>
>>2448380
This.
I've learned over the years how to read the campaign map and start battles accordingly to benefit myself or disadvantage the opponent. Sometimes it generates some grueling, long battles but it's fun even then and absolutely worth it for the experience of positioning and teaching yourself the importance of deployment.

One time in as W:TW Campaign as Ironforge Dwarves I was going out from Bael Modan to fight a passing orc army and they kept fucking off up this mountain. I finally repositioned them and kept turning their formation to keep from being flanked until they FINALLY were pinned for engagement and I smashed them easily. Their stack wasn't anything special next to mine but that uphill fight would've definitely cost me too many troops and since my nearest reinforcements were literally on the other side of the fucking planet and I was literally surrounded on all sides by enemies I couldn't afford to lose a shit-ton of the garrison.

Hands down the most needlessly brutal mod ever made, honestly. It's great fun but they've mechanically changed so much shit that you're going to brick 20 campaigns before you figure out how to play because they changed so many fundamentals.
I've been playing some pretty brutal mods going back to High School and pulled off some incredible stuff.
>lol git gud
Listen faggot, I don't want to replay the same campaign 20 times in a row, start over from scratch, over and over and over again, just because a bunch of masochistic autists decided their definition of a, "good game," is, "one that actually makes you want to murder the next living person you see in frustration."
It absolutely kills the fantasy of the mod for me honestly. There's challenge and then there's just mechanically bullying someone from forty different directions.

TW games should be challenging. There's challenging and then there's playing against a rigged house while casino security holds your balls and then crushes them at the least sign you acknowledge what is going on.

Unless you're a masochist I wouldn't touch the mod. You can be a 20-year veteran like me, it'll STILL crush your will to boot up the game. The Discord is full of people who basically only play this specific mod, so of course they don't see the issue. The barrier to entry is obscene.

That said, it's a well-made mod. That's the most terrible part. I can't put it down and it just keeps kicking my ass.
>>
>>2449000
Just cheat and keep playing.
>>
>>2449060
Unprincipled brown faggot or jewish hands typed this.
>>
>>2449707
I mean if you keep restarting the game because you run into unexpected problems isn't it better to run one cheat run so you know the terrain?
>>
>>2415094
If you try this mood and play as northern dunedain you should go into their building files and add the local culture buildings from the start. Beacon of hope doesn't work, units take decades to recover, and when you unite with Gondor the game is basically "over" already.
