Come, son, and confess your heretical acts. Like the unpopular opinion threads, but for the things you've DONE (or not), instead of the things you think about.I'll start with a few:- I've never played any of the Warcraft games; the first two are too old for my taste, and the third one really puts me off with its RTS/RPG mixture- Related to the above, I tried playing Spellforce and hated every minute of it- Total Annihilation filtered me hard. In fact, the only TA-like that I enjoy is Supreme Commander.- In spite of playing it for over 50 hours, I do not know how to play Victoria 2. I follow guides, but I've yet to understand the underlying mechanisms of the gameplay. - I pre-ordered Company of Heroes 2. I regret it with every fiber of my soul.
>>2425846>your heretical actsI played several RTS with a controller (the old PS1 ones that didn't even had joysticks) and it was fine.99% of the playerbase don't use keyboard shortcuts anyway, and it take barely 10 minutes getting used to moving the cursor with arrows.RTS don't do much on consoles because the playerbase is massively balls&guns players, that's it.
>>2428435Had I not played Halo Wars over 15 years ago in my old Xbox 360, I would've asked for you to be burned at the stake. Alas, the controls were, in fact, quite decent for a console RTS, and the game was supremely enjoyable. You may go in peace.
I like to play Civilizations game more as simulators than strategy games. Like I don't chase any specific victory type, I just like to see my civilization grow and imagine the history of this world.
>>2425846>be king>faggot start obvious power grab>tell him to fuck off>faggot declare you not king>your enemies rally around that and start shit against you and your allies>apologize to faggot so he declare you king again>he does, but with a ton of small lines in the contract so your enemies can still instigate civil war on your turf>end up having to invade Rome to kill faggot and make this shit stoplmao
>>2428469Based beyond belief. That is how every 4X/Grand strategy should be played, aesthetics before mere function.
>>2425846>pre-ordering gamesWhat a retard
>>2428504Real medieval history is far more interesting and exciting than any faggoty "historical fantasy". No fiction writer could ever, no even with a million monkeys with typewriters, come up with all the bullshit of the Guelphs vs Ghibellines conflict.
>>2425846I use cheat on every Civilization game I play because I am not capable of winning any of them.I literally lose every single game, even at minimum difficulty.
I don't like total annihilation style RTS, they're overrated
I play Master of Magic as an RPG. My cities are there just to produce funds for heroes and artifacts, while said heroes go around dungeon crawling.
I don't like APM heavy RTS and if playing skirmish will choose low speed if such option existsRelated to >>2428435 I enjoy playing strategy with controller and will go out of my way to find a strategy game exclusive/port on console or phone to kill some time on vacation.. CivRev and Endwar are great because of that.
>>2425846- I like HOI4- I like the idea of getting into Victoria 2, but I find the economy too complicated and unpredictable- I really only give a shit about Paradox interactive titles, nothing else quite interests me
>>2425846I have bought at least 50€ worth of P*radox DLCs
- Used to buy into "muh gookclick" and other arguments that tried to discredit online play as strategy while growing up- kinda related but I didn't play a blizzard game until about 2 years ago when I tried brood war and there is something just right about it- I don't think most of the old C&C were that good in gameplay and are hard carried by the fmv and the nostalgia, especially ra2- TA-likes puzzle me a bit because apart from unit allocation I don't see a lot of the other strategic parts, no timing attacks, composition of one's army barely changes the opponent's unless air or subs are involved, there's the "aha terrain matters in TA" meme posted but most maps don't even have interesting terrain-I wouldn't count it as sin but HoI2 darkest hour sits untouched in my library, it's the only paradox game I have-similarly I have quite a few hex&counters wargames I haven't touched yet in my library (did play panzer general and decisive campaign ardenne assault)
>>2425846I got filtered hard by Red Dragon.
>>2436297>>I got filtered hard by Red Dragon.Me too brah. Only Eugen games I liked were Act of War and R.U.S.E.Bless them for rereleasing the game on Steam.
All versions of Tactics Ogre have design issues, especially regarding how it actually discourages you for using anything but the units you had since the beginning in the SNES/PS/Reborn version and the basic classes in LUCT, it has some cool maps but the majority are utterly boring, mostly open spaces and unlike a Fire Emblem for example, there are no "secondary objective" like villages to save (beside the occasional potential recruitable character but that's too rare). LUCT is especially annoying because it insists on giving you new classes that starts at level and actively discourages you from using a variety of classes by dividing the XP between all the classes on the field.Tactics Ogre would have a far better game if it was a ADV game, because at least the story is compelling.
I love Warcraft as a setting, played the shit out WC3 custom games and still do from time to time, even played a small bit of ladder and will play melee maps with friends over LAN. When bored or when I'm looking to relax I'll listen to the OST and rewatch the cinematics.Yet I've only played through the entire campaign ONCE, as a child, with every cheat enabled.
>>2436757Alright, seeing as you know a thing or two about Tactics Ogre, which version would you recommend for someone new to the franchise? Which one is, as a manner of speaking, less bad?
>>2436807nta, but Unicorn Overlord
>>2436490I watched Vulcan HD Gaming red Dragon campaigns and i was eager to start so i got the game, got my ass handed to me and crawled back in shame.. Which is annoying because the game seems fun if bit limited.
>>2425846I beta tested age of empires 4 and still bought that piece of shit. I have barely touched it since. Never even completed more than 3 scenarios in the english campaign and I played maybe 2 or 3 online matches in total during the beta. What a bad game.
>>2436807if you're a broke ass, I'd say to emulate the PSP version while it has a dogass way of handling level as mentionned, the additional characters in the Law Route makes the game considerably less of a fucking sausage fest (it's a minor detail but it's really noticeable if you are accustomed to Fire Emblem or Valkyria Chronicles for example). The PS version is a worse SNES/Saturn version, don't bother. The SNES version you could find online used the dogshit PS translation but maybe a better one has been released since.Reborn is arguably the best version... but the card systems makes some of the boss fight really fucking annoying and it severely limits the amount of spells one unit can uses and also it costs 60 fucking bucks.
My sin is that I've been swayed by new games in a way that makes me really distrust anons here. For example I really like how AoE4 looks. I feel like a madman every time someone tries to show me a comparison to try and convince me that it's bad.Meanwhile the game has a lot of attention do details like every single upgrade changing the model visually (HRE MAA gets a sword and shield, mace and shield, a two handed axe or two handed mace depending on what upgrade they have for example) but anon will say >"look yonder ye fool at the FRANKS and their THROWING AXEMEN chugging giant double bit axes at pixelated PICTS! Doesn't that look so much better???" and it's like no bud I know you grew up with this game but it's silly, unhistoric and looks more cartoony than the admittedly excessive use of saturated player colours on AoE4 units. AoE4 music is amazing too and, while I only play unranked every once in a while after work, I feel like balance is fine at least among fellow noobs. And I don't know if I'm just a man with bad taste or if those anons are being overly critical of things that don't matter.
>>2436848I've taken a look at the card system you mentioned, and it honestly sucks unbelievable amounts of dick. I get that adding a bit of randomness to the battles can be a good idea, but that seems far too much. Also, it looks like Reborn has a per chapter level cap, which I hate. Let me grind in peace, you motherfuckers. And it has less content than the previous version, which I SPECIALLY hate. Off to emulate Let Us Cling Together I go.
>>2436953may the winds of Fortune blesses you and the Walister Clan anon
>>2425846I shit on new paradox games for having mana but refuse to play older ones because I don't like the maps
>>2425846i don't stim marines in starcraft one or two, ever. i don't like that it damages them, i don't like going into battle with damaged units
