Wargame Design Studios is having their summer sale. Almost all titles 25% off. Does /vst/ grognard?
>>2427330never heard of them. looks intresting, but all of these games look the same. I'm not sure you can make crusades and civil war on the same engine, so it looks suspicious.
>>2427336John Tiller rebranded and updated
>>2427336Hex and chit wargames are easily modifiable to suit any era or style of warfare.
>>2427330they made free vietnam/bay of pigs game and are thus based
On a scale of 1 to 10 how much of a buggy mess are their games?
>>24279571. They put a lot of work into overhauling the old ones and keeping them updated.
>>2427336They're actually very different and the units behave differently. Try moving a pike&shot tercio the same way you move Napoleonic French demi-brigades in assault column and you're in for a nasty surprise
>>2427330Are their games on Steam?
>>2428497no, only their website. lots of free demos, try and see if you like them
i FUCKING love HEXES
>>2430796This but unironically
I've always wanted to get into those but been put off by the autistic complexity. How good is the AI? My main complaint about these hex wargames is that AI is non-existent which ruins any immersion I have once you get past the UI.
>>2430899Better than most but not comparable to a human. Try a demo
>>2430899I love that I’m such a nerd that I can see the thumbnail on my phone and instantly know what battle is being pictured, and what day of said battle. I’m sure many of you are in that club.I wouldn’t dive into these WDS games right off the bat. I’ve been playing them since a kid and while I generally enjoy them, I’m not going to elite card you and say they’re the best.If you want a really good hex-based wargame with a beautiful and clean UI, good tutorial, and a dick-kicker of an AI, you cannot beat the Unity of Command series. Both entries are good. If you like them, you can dive into more “complex” stuff, but I find them to be the perfect balance between accessible, detailed, and challenging. And I have hundreds of hours in the War in the East games. Unity of Command is better.
>>2430728>>2428497They have begun putting their games on Steam.https://store.steampowered.com/app/4527890/Sword__Siege_Crusades_Book_I/?curator_clanid=46113477https://store.steampowered.com/app/4527900/Sword__Siege_Crusades_Book_II/?curator_clanid=46113477https://store.steampowered.com/app/4590640/Sword__Siege_Age_of_Longbow_Volume_I/?curator_clanid=46113477Also said they're looking into getting the older games on there too, and if you bought from their website you'll receive a Steam key so no need to repurchasehttps://wargameds.com/blogs/news/wds-announcement?_pos=2&_sid=cde2adf22&_ss=r
>>2432962Good news, will get them more exposure. One of the few companies who actually cares about quality, bugfixes, free updates, etc. and great games
>>2432962I'm all for war games, but is this castle stupidly small or what
>>2433200the isometric view in their games always sucks ass, i think it's a remnant of the john tiller era but don't quote me on thati use the top-down counter view every single time
>>2432466Unity of Command 2 is what you should have specified, the first is more of a puzzle game. 2 is as well but you can at least have some freedom in what you wanna build units as.Soviet campaigns are pure CBT though. I genuinely don't know if I should just be chucking rifle divisions at the enemy and hoping one manages to do something.
>>2432466>>2433297I played UoC 1 and 2 and never could shake the feeling that there is 1 rigid path to victory for most harder scenarios. It just makes me lose interest after a while.
>>2433227No NATO counters?
>>2433859They have quite a few styles of counters for each game
