Contrast this with how the Sunken Colonie's attacks are actually invisible projectiles whoose impact sprites are animated to look like exactly a melee attack.

the unit in the picture shown is a siege tank, a unit that doubles as a tank and self propelled artillery in siege mode (as shown) it absolutely could strike a target behind some kind of raised terrain or fortification from a distance. that's literally what its forhope that clears things up
