its the best civ game ever and its not even close
>>
have a "you" friend
>>
>>2438243
It's the best civ game ever at sucking dick
>>
series peaked with civ2 space victory into SMAC playthrough
>>
>>2438243
buy an ad, nobody is buying this dogshit.
>>
It's easily the worst one that I've played. The Test of Time update did fuck all to improve the game btw.
>>
>>2438243
I heard they added hotseat, the game might actually be playable now.
>>
>>2439273
Who the fuck uses hotseat in 2026
>>
>>2438243
Bait used to be good
>>
>>2439277
It's fun to make a sandbox and play against yourself wish I could do that on Age of Empires/Mythology
>>
What are pros and cons of VII compare to VI?
I don't care about CIV inheritance, also I remember players hated VI when it came out, but after I played it - it became my fav game in the series.
>>
>>2447593
>What are pros and cons of VII compare to VI?
pros:
>mixing and matching civs and leaders adds a lot of depth in terms of making builds
>combat is the best its ever been by a fucking mile
>they finally figured out how to make diplomacy and the tall/wide split not retarded

cons:
>civ switching is awful if you like to roleplay (mitigated by most recent update)
>UI is still iffy and there are bugs/stability issues
>$30 dlcs for like 2 leaders
>game is currently missing 25% of its timespan

everything not mentioned is basically the same as prior entries (eg. religion is still ass)
>>
>>2447580
>play against yourself
sounds stupid
>>
>>2447639
>combat is the best its ever been by a fucking mile
What changed? Previous games have pretty much solid combat.
>>
>>2448814
NTA but they revamped how generals work and its a really fun change. The army units themselves no longer promote but the generals do and provide buffs to the units around them, they also let you pack up units into the general to move them around so it makes mobilizing armies a lot more user friendly. They add a lot to unit positioning and make wars a little more fun to manage. Even some people who hate the game overall admit the generals and finally adding navigable rivers were the two good things to come out of it.
>>
>>2438243
Did they ever fix the map sizes being ridiculously small?
>>
>>2438243
for me to poop on
>>
>>2447639
Biggest con is that its basically just 2 ages and a half. Someone is always winning 40-50% into modern era, games feel super short because of it

Antiquity and exploration are pretty fun though
>>
>>2438244
>>2438243
>>
>>2447639
I agree
The game is fun, especially combat is the best it's ever been. I personally love eras and crisis (although not crisis policies) it reminds me of civ colonization when you had to survive the kings army. Towns are a great addition because micromanagement killed civ 6 for me and independent powers are much better. Also resources are much better now
>Cons
The civ switching is one thing but it's a big thing. It's basically what the whole game was based on and it sucks. And I wouldn't say it's exactly fixed because you either have bullcrap like Persia - Mongolia - India or you have only antiquity civs in the modern age. If they wanted switching it should have been like a tree with coherent paths for each civ or just switch leaders which makes way more sense in the first place. And if they were going to steal from humankind they should have stolen the neolithic era because constantly restarting sucks
>>2453810
This is the second biggest problem. Science and domination victories are basically infeasible and the game ends before you can try out aircraft, nukes and the ideology cold war stuff.
>>
>>2464638
>aircraft, nukes and the ideology cold war stuff.
i think based on leaks and whats been alluded to in surveys and stuff (eg. "would you like it if XYZ was in the game" type thing) an atomic age is pretty much a guarantee for the first expansion, so all that stuff might get more room to breathe there
>>
>>2447639
>mixing and matching civs and leaders adds a lot of depth in terms of making builds
>they finally figured out how to make diplomacy and the tall/wide split not retarded

both of those things were present in civ4 already

>combat is the best its ever been by a fucking mile
which is irrelevant because AI is utterly incompetent and cant play
>>
>>2464798
>AI is utterly incompetent and cant play
Not to defend civ 7 specifically, but which 4x game does the AI handle combat well when the systems have any level of complexity? And "Give them a bunch of free units/bonuses" doesn't count.
>>
>>2448903
This has been stopping me from getting it. Also the maps all seemed the same, just two square continents l.
>>
>>2448903
>>2465215
they fixed this ages ago
>>
>>2465215
>>2465242
I dont know about map sizes but they have fixed up the gen a bit. Just posting a pic to show a random game i was playing a few days ago.
>>
>>2438380
I just finished a civ2 game with space victory, except it wasn't me winning. The AI beat me to AC by about 15 turns, unfortunately. I went republic early and was trying to play nice, only to have the whole world gang up on me and eventually start nuking my cities. I dunno, maybe emperor difficulty is a bit too much for me.

SMAC is gonna have to wait, I want to finish civ2 on medium size map with 7 civs and no savescumming first. Might need to stick with king difficulty though. Pls no bully.
>>
>>2466362
If anything I honestly think you have the right way of it. Gaming the deeper mechanics just makes these titles less fun, that is why I tend to avoid reading guides much. The more you learn, the easier it gets, until the simulation you grew up playing is just a solved equation. I did that with Civ III and stopped playing it. Now I just play on easy or easiest my first game and gradually ratchet it up as I figure out more mechanics, which is very slow for me
>>
>>2466576
That's pretty much what I did in civ1 last week. Did several playthroughs, increasing the difficulty each time. I'm currently doing another playthrough of civ2 on king, but this time I'm not playing nice. 1500AD and already removed three other civs.
>>
dlc announcement on the 5th
>>
Been playing civ games starting from civ1, and I gotta ask - what the fuck is wrong with civ3?

>civ1
>always enjoying each game
>king difficulty is chill
>having fun

>civ2
>a bit more refined, but still the same civ
>king difficulty still chill
>still having fun

>civ3
>what the fuck is happening
>making a settler requires two city levels now, goddamn
>no zone of control and you can't kill a stack of units with a single attack, so the optimal unit placement is just a single brainless deathstack? wtf?
>at least the AI seems better, I guess
>have to restart because I fucked up too much in my first game
>try chinese on regent difficulty
>achieve spaceship victory, but can't shake the feeling that the game is more frustrating than fun
>"oh well, maybe it just takes some getting used to. I'll try one more time, I'm sure it'll become fun once I get better."
>playing romans on monarch difficulty now
>except there's no iron anywhere on this continent
>sandwiched between two civs raping me with their unique units that don't require iron
Holy shit, this is like the opposite of fun.
>>
>>2475592
I started a new game in civ2 just to make sure I'm not crazy, and yea, I'm instantly having fun. I can't quite put my finger on what exactly it is, but civ3 is just not as enjoyable...
>>
Such utter dogshit
>>
>>2476400
Cause civ 2 is still the best.

you guys harriet tubman will lead the mongols in civ 8?
>>
I gave this another shot and I still really hate how the UI tries to railroad you into just mashing the "do next thing" button until it turns into the "end turn" button.
>>
I understand that starting a new strategy game always has growing pains regarding learning to navigate a new UI, but the CIV 7 one feels so bare bones, especially on cities and trying to remember which rural districts are already placed down
>>
>>2476400
how are you playing 2 on a modern pc?
>>
I only got through one age in Civ 7 for the free weekend, but this is the first strategy game I've played in a long time where I feel like they just kind of threw in radical changes for the sake of it. Everything just feels weird and has 3 additional layers of mechanics behind it because they just wanted to say the game is more complex than Civ 6.
>>
>>2485827
if anything id say its a lot more streamlined than 6. it might be that the still kinda shitty UI makes the systems more opaque, but a lot of the (somewhat bloated imo) complexity from prior games was cut for 7. id say stick with it a bit more until you get a grasp of it better and see if you feel the same way
>>
What got me is the dlc prices.

>$30 for Brush & Blade
>$20 for England & George Washington

Look at the other stuff you can buy for $30 on Steam and the value proposition of the Civ 7 add-ons drops really fast.

Firaxis earned that anemic player count.
>>
>>2438380
this, but without the civ 2
>>
>>2438243
i really enjoyed the free week but i shant be paying that much for it
>>2447639
>religion is still ass
religion was great in 5 and 6. it was useful and you could actually win with it. in 7 its only there for the exploration age and barely does anything
>>2486042
>shitty UI makes the systems more opaque
doesnt help that the civopedia doesnt tell me anything
>look up treasure convoys
>2 sentence vague unit description and 4 hour video essay on the historical context
BITCH JUST TELL ME HOW TO GENERATE THEM
>>
>>2487235
>religion was great in 5 and 6
never played 5 much but religious combat in 6 was the most annoying part of the game

>>look up treasure convoys
>BITCH JUST TELL ME HOW TO GENERATE THEM
settle distant lands and work treasure resources (the ones with the little treasure chest icons) there
>>
>>2487235
>religion was great in 5 and 6

Said no one ever.
>>
>>2487352
i figured out treasure convoys on the last day of the free week. the game just didnt properly explain it so i didnt make use of them
like another thing was i never understood where i could or couldnt place buildings. i was trying to place a temple or something next to some mountains but it wouldnt let me. i didnt know if the tile needs to be rural or urban or empty or whatever. the game didnt tell me
>>
>>2487369
theres a pretty obscure/poorly explained mechanic with placing buildings. you cant create new urban tiles if you have any in progress buildings anywhere else in the city. so like, if you start a building on a new urban district but dont finish it for whatever reason, that district just sits as a "blank" urban district and the game wont let you make any more new ones until you resolve it

there are various ways around it though. you can start building something in the blank district, which lets you start queuing new buildings elsewhere again, then just switch the order of the queue to start on your new building immediately
>>
>>2487369
>>2487372
oh or alternatively it might just be that you cant place urban districts "unconnected", they always have to be adjacent to other urban. so to start with, you can only place directly next to the city centre, then you branch out from there
>>
>new update
>ui and map mods all break
How hard is it to add projected yields to policy cards?
>>
File: 1724362591159211.jpg (96 KB, 1280x720)
96 KB JPG
>>2489455
Ok, seems the policy yields, specialist yields, town info, and map tacks mods together don't make the ui disappear. But seriously, 3 of these should be added already
>>
>>2489468
did you work out which one was breaking it? ive disabled all of mine and cant be arsed reenabling them one by one to find the culprit
>>
>>2486540
I'm not a civ 7 owner or supporter, but at least the two new leaders, elisabeth and washington, have good models. They're actually nice to look at unlike those in the base game. They still have to add Bismarch. and also louis XIV since they made charlemagne look like a basedboy.
>>
>>2486540
Same, I'll just wait until a torrent comes out or a civ 8 gets announced so civ 7 finally gets to half price or something because god almighty wtf are those prices.
The worst part is that I want to play Sengoku Japan but it's way too fucking pricy, fuck
>>
>>2438243
They're trying to make the 4X equivalent of Scrabble 2 now. The logical next step for Civ would be to make the leaders and themes more defined. Which they will never do because they need to be politically neutral. Alpha Centauri brought the philosophy and characters to the forefront and it mogs every mainline civ game.
>>
>>2490005
I dunno what happened since i've ran and reopened a save with all the UI mods i've subscribed. Mostly SiBr3's stuff and City Hall. I saw error messages when generating a mod map, then tested ui mods, but i think the latter got patched quickly after the update.
>>
>>2490100
>I want to play Sengoku Japan but it's way too fucking pricy
Im in the same boat, luckily civ stuff ends up going on sale often so ill grab it when its at least 15. That 30 dollar price for the Japan and Korea pack is retarded, hopefully it sold really bad so thats why the next one is down to 20.
>>
The last civ game I played was civ4. Are the more recent ones any good? I didn't like how they gave each civ unique perks. Also

>civ2 > civ4 > civ1 >>>>> civ3
>>
Do I just need to git gud or why is it that every Civilization game I try always goes the same way?
>get tech for new powerful unit
>start building a few
>new tech arrives, making them obsolete
>start building new units
>new tech arrives, making them obsolete
What's the point of trying to build massive armies when the tech tree moves faster than you can build them? I can leapfrog the tech tree and get knights earlier than anyone else, but by the time I finally get a couple of knights, everyone has cannons already.
>>
>>2490663
you gotta stay on top of your production and/or gold as well as your science anon
and in the case of non-civ7 games, know where the broken units that can bunch above their weight class are
>>
Yo anons help a brother out how the fuck do you get civ 2 running on windows 11

I (and my father) would appreciate it
>>
>>2490682
You are now hearing Civ 2 melee combat noises in your mind
>>
>>2490684
Urghshhhkurrrghclankclankclankting
>>
>>2490682
Just run an emulator or a VM.
>>
I used to win by conquering the world and crushing every other civilization in 1 and 2. Starting from 3 that's not really feasible anymore is it?
>>
>>2490662
>I didn't like how they gave each civ unique perks
Oh, no. 4 is the last game where leader traits were uniform. In 7, civs are even more dense with bonuses than 6, down to unique civics and having a wonder they can beeline faster than others. So, you can rush Hanging Gardens easily as Babylon for example. The most similar aspect of leaders in 7 vs 4 are attributes (militaristic, expansionist, cultural, etc.), which they have two of them.
>>
>>2490662
>I didn't like how they gave each civ unique perks.

Really? That was the best thing introduced in 5. But I think 6 and 7 go a bit overboard with it to the point that uniqueness is actually lost because there are too many overlaps. 5 did uniqueness perfectly.
>>
>>2475592
I quite like Civ3, but I have to admit it focused too much on war. An enemy army on a huge map can easily consist of around 150 units, especially on Pangea maps, and starting a war with one civilization can easily cause all the others to turn against you if you don't have the means to bribe them first; however, if you can get past that initial hurdle, the snowball effect makes it easy to win the game by the Industrial Age.
That said, I have to admit that defending a city against hordes of enemies using my hoplites and catapults really gets me going, so it might just be a personal preference.
>>
>>2438243
>continues to mog you for another 25 years.
>>
>>2448820
Civ 3 armies were the best.
>>
>>2491300
>watches 48 rounds of rifles slowly firing at each other
>>
The shuffle map is the perfect type for the civ switching cause it lets you adjust your civ to the land you get. Actually makes the game work better.
>>
>>2466362
>only to have the whole world gang up on me and eventually start nuking my cities
Probably issue with broken AI. There was bugfix for that.
>>
>>2466362
>>2492384
Yeah, the Multiplayer Gold Edition is bugged in that your relations with the AI civs get reset every time you interact with them. The original game did not behave like that.
>>
>>2438243
not playing, civ switching is a dealbreaker
>>
>>2493049
they made civ switching optional months ago
