Do you think CA will add space battles to their 40k game?

They’ve been pretty inconsistent on this point. One moment they say they aren't sure about space battles, and the next they mention that the fleet plays a major role in movement across the galaxy map. In a worst-case scenario, the battles would play out like *Empire at War*, though that still requires ship designs—even if they’re just flat portraits and stats.

I think it's unlikely. Space combat would essentially be an entirely different game bolted on and that means multiplying the development work. And unlike historical titles with naval battles, each faction would have their own unique roster of ships and spacecraft that look and fight differently from one another.

I think the possibility will be open to add space battles in DLC down the line because M3 will probably have them and it's the same new engine, so they can benefit from the shared platform. But I think for launch it's just not likely.

Given the amount of effort it would take to have space battles in on launch, they would have been a much larger part of the marketing so far.

Unfortunately I think they would have told us about it if they had the intention. It would probably be difficult to balance the methods of transportation. Eldar can just webway anywhere? Chaos can just portal anywhere? Ork Rokks work how? How does Tau FTL work? I dunno. Votann? Imperium forces getting fucked over in the warp would be complicated too. Maybe we will be able to build space defenses or defense fleets which delay attacks on a planet by 1-2-3 turns?

Those are reasonable arguments. I also don't expect TW:40k to feature elaborate space battles at launch. However, judging by that one video—which seems to have been overlooked for some reason—I think we’ll ultimately get those battles in some form. Not necessarily like *Battlefleet Gothic: Armada*, but something more than just the naval movement seen in the previous *Total War: Warhammer* titles.

Even if they don't introduce battles, they'll still have to solve this problem. Most likely, everyone will simply move their ships from system to system. Think of the Daemons in TW:3—ultimately, they moved their armies around normally instead of teleporting into the Empire (with a few exceptions).

I think such a system will be in the game because of the need to defend bases built on planets. It would require a mobile fleet anyway, even if only in a rudimentary form.
