Starsector thread: whine about the inclusion of a hardcore mode after years of LARPing as a hardcore gamer edition.
>>2439592>hardcore mode You wanna know what's hardcore...
>>2439592Why would I whine about that?
>>2439627fpbpalso>calling some gay shit gay>le whining™
Finally thank you Alex
>>2439632>fpbpfamily planning benefit program?I can't wait to see how they fuck that- oooooh>>2439592It's just a race to the bottom of proving your selfworth to voices on the internet. Ain't gonna touch it, because my autism is required elsewhere.
>>2439673>game "development" is just taking fan made mods and slapping them into the gamedishonest game design
>>2439673>May 26
>>2439592Why does the player have to retire after just 25 years anyway? The in-game reason is I haven't had a single game last longer than 20 years but what's the lore reason? Are they canonically already 60+ or something? Commanding ships isn't that intensive. Something that would be cool instead is a health stat that decreases based on time and actions. Getting your ship blown up, especially if the hull breaks apart, should be a pretty big blow to your health for example. That would encourage you to play a bit safer, run reinforced bulkheads, and even transfering off of a ship to pretty much doom it but ensure you aren't on it when it blows up. If crew morale was ever introduced that last one would be the easiest massive morale penalty as well.
>>2439716I predict the "limit" is going to be meaningless as it's going to be like 100k creds a month to become adeptus mechanicus and become eternal when your volonoes are already collectively making 10 mil a month.
>>2439716Alex already caved on that issue. Now the retirement cost no longer scales over time. It's purpose is to symbolize that you've beaten the challenge of extended mode (and get you to stop playing because Alex realizes the later stages of his game are mediocre.)
Speaking of, who's the oldest human in the lore?
>>2439740Kanta.Mostly a clanker now, but was actually around when the domain was a thing.>>2439734>(and get you to stop playing because Alex realizes the later stages of his game are mediocre.)Calling bs on that myth.
>>2439734>to symbolize that you've beaten the challenge of extended modeYou can "beat it" by just sitting around doing literally nothing for 25 years. Having the game running in the background for a set amount of time is not an achievement. Then again, in a game with no endgame, what is?
>>2439698yeah at least he doesn't charge $20 for nerfed versions of them like that faggot tyrone that makes rimworld. shit nonetheless tho

I hope there's some more Brother Cotton content in the future. he's so chill and I love LP

>>2439888such a good update. I just got the test pilot stuff maxed, and slapped the dash charge system on a capital. shit is gooood even though its 36 points
lol just tried it on a paragon too. watching the big fucker go WEEEEEE is the funniest shit I've seen since odyssey bowling
>>2439888Why does this insufferable faggot keep trying so hard to sound like sseth?

>>2439927blessed campaign start! I have really been enjoying it and having a bunch of little mechs chopping shit down with swords. been getting good capital ship drops too
btw, get you a few of those AA valkyries and slap wingcom on them asap. its so fucking good
sorry, wrong thread. why do they look the same ahhh
>>2439942I've already grabbed a few. Fielding them in mass seems strong, but all those coffins shreds your crew.
>>2439912>trying so hard to sound like ssethI don't he's trying anon, I think that's his voice
>>2439957yeah think I put pirate valkens on all of mine, or kyoukos. went to try out threat with my current fleet a few mins ago, and MRC got sat bombed to death while I was gone so no more arma questline on this save. sindria and hmi have been suuuuuper-aggressive to MRC, and nex keeps making bounty hunters teleport onto me as soon as I leave a system, so I kill 2-3 -> ohnoesss more sat bombs. like, calm down boys. I'm the one shooting up to get ghetto temporal shell in my mechs
shit, nm. sindria just invaded new meshan. I can just take it back
>>2439888ArmaA is cringe since the dev removed the Bihander LPC 200 years ago
>>2439958It's the inflections and the rthythm and flow up speech, he's blatantly imitating, and his comedy + editing style makes it even more obvious. Just cringe shit all around.
Say, since the HMG is going to get the General tag, is Elite Point Defense still going to work?
>>2439966I believe alex said it will have the pd_also tag so it should still work with PD skills and hullmods
great, so my stupid hmg + thunderhead build remains viable. somewhat.
Hm. wonder if there will be another retarded ship like the anubis this patch that I still wont use
>>2439964this boy just discovered shitposting vids. there's like fifteen guys I have personally watched that do that lol
>>2439964Is your favorite movie Boss Baby, by any chance?
ALEX!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
>>2439980NTA but he's clearly imitating Seth in his speech mannerisms. No one actually talks like that, it's a performance for videos.
Over a year for literally nothing. Whats in this system anyway? Just some random spooky shit that doesnt matter?
yeah, I took meshan back and forgot to give it to based luddic path. I feel gross now. think it's reload time!
>>2439983me irl when 0.96 came out and it was just some luddic church quests and the invictus

Did Armaa get a secret update or something? Why is it suddenly being talked about a lot? It's still 3.25 on forum with a wip 3.3.1 on git, both pretty old updates.
dunno. I'm using 3.2.5 and havent used it in years so it's new to me
>>2440045The 3.3.1 is only a few weeks old.But to answer your question, a popular youtube person made an ARMA video.
nobody expects the astral drive-by ahhhhhhhhhhh

>>2440095She chills over shroud stuff if you select the right option in her shrine events. Though that is currently not working in the latest version. There's 3 states for her, normal, hopeful, and independent. Hopeful doesn't have any interactions but independent makes her a bit more flexible.
>>2440045Last I heard about it outside of Mediocre Tuber Videos was some drama where a guy got really mad about ships from Derelict Expansion making that one mission where you divebomb a planet too hard and whining at the dev until it was changed to use a whitelist to placate him.
lol DEX is such a good mod
>>2440109Did they just not use any mechs or something? DEX ships can be a tough nut to crack but they are at the end of the day shieldless shitters piloted by gammas firing primitive weapons. Most mechs in the mod can easily handle even capital grade ships with hit and run tactics.
>>2440128This was an autistic sperg even by the standards of this game's community. What triggered the meltdown wasn't even one of the really nasty ones, it was the fat fuck damper cruiser that just sits there and gets shot while other ships try to close on you. Then he started screaming about how he used the nuke command repeatedly because it wasn't fair or some shit, and proceeded to whine about DEX being OP for like five days.Fucker got the DEX dev to nerf the damage on the quadcoil-lookalike too somehow, and now the thing does basically no damage to armor. How the fuck do shitters have so much sway in this community?
>discord drama sbout literally whos
>>2440128true story. I chopped down an astral with the valkhazard sword while being fighter spammed
>>2440136>discord drama that directly makes mods worse because every modder randomly caters to some litterally who

>>2440141the ones not influenced by d*scordi.e none
>>2440028Ship Mastery System. It lets your ships (and NPC/enemy ships) "level up" and gain perks, and also adds a bunch of exploration content.
Reminder that most people who were crying about needing something like extended mode to prolong the early game also bitch and moan every time they have to actually do early game combat and skip straight to late-game.For good reason, shit ships with no officers exacerbate the ai and balance issues which are by far the worst parts of the game with hyperspace mechanics being a close second. And i’d be a good opportunity to convince Alex to do something about both if only everyone on the forums took a break from dick-riding him lomg enough to tell him
>>2439904Now put this shit on an Invictus
>>2440166I like early game combat because I can use a single frigate or destroyer to solo the enemy's shitfleet.
>>2440309already "upgraded" to the 3.3.1 pre-release version that nerfs it to be destroyer/frigate only. no idea why dudeman had it cost 36 points on a capital to just be like HEHE WHOOPS and neuter it
>>2440166this>>2440342stop fucking around Alex
>>2440166It's mostly down to weapon design. Alex thinks that all weapons must either be overpriced or suck, so you get stuck with dogshit weapons in the early game because early game ships can't mount anything better.Any mod that gives access to Weapons That Actually Work early game such as the previously mentioned derelict mod make it far more enjoyable. Though it must also be said that weapons being bad, variants being bad, and ships being bad are all downstream of every enemy in the game having no strategic AI except mashing the Full Assault button after 30 seconds, except for the Threat for some reason. Make the enemy AI not shit, and suddenly everything else is allowed to improve.
>>2440344Thr same exact litterally who that whined about the Jeinus mission whined it was OP so it was removed to cater to said litterally who.
>>2440361ohhhhhh good. I mean, I think you're full of crap, but we'll go with that
oooh this little LG destroyer mech called the Cetan is pretty leet. it has a bigass lobster claw option that's like a mini-TPC and just a good well-rounded ship
Shill Wide Horizons to me
>>2440599Bigger sector, bigger loot, more planets, more things to explore. also some black void neutron stars and purple hyperspace cloud
>thinking about how tahlan is useful sometimes even though I ignore legio and GH shit usually>see this
>>2440626sometimes i like tahlan for based ships like the castigator and kassadar being a great pit stop on the outer rimand then shit like this shows up and im pulled back into nia tahl's magical bullshitsell it to the pirates
>>2439409What mod is this from?
>>2440675you read my mind, son. thats exactly what I did :D
>>2440698>>2440165
Alex you aren't going to get away with this
I will take his watermelone
found one of these floating and it is reeeeeally fun. solid in a group too. comes from caymon's ship pack
Well, done with another playthrough. Tried using Hivers Swarm, because the idea of fighting back a gigantic army of zerg/tyranids sounded fun. They got their teeth kicked in.
>>2440827Main problem with Hivers (besides the obvious) is that it's clearly designed around everyone teaming up against the blatantly galaxy-threatening invaders, but Starsector doesn't work that way from either a lore or gameplay perspective.
>>2440838yeah Rarr did a video where he tried to save the galaxy from them, and all the other factions just kept shitting on him lol
>>2440838>>2440840It was pretty bad when Diable and Star Federation, my weakest faction mods, were beating them silly and repelling their strongest raiding fleets. It reminded me of the Adversary mod, which is a similar idea of an extremely high powered enemy faction designed to be a threat to the sector, but everyone dogpiled them and wiped them from the sector, without my help.
>>2440842yeah old hiver swarm was fucking hardcore. he has chickenshit difficulty options now because of it. they used to just spam 10 capital fleets at you over and over
>>2439673saaryour izzat debt saar
>>2440165>It lets your ships (and NPC/enemy ships)It doesn't actually do anything for NPC shipsits just a cheatmod like any other mod that messes with skills and s-mod stats
>>2440875>It doesn't actually do anything for NPC shipsYou didn't play the mod.Either that or you're a pussy bitch who turned the mod difficulty to the easiest settings to disable enemies from leveling up, making your post entirely disingenuous.
>>2440878>You didn't play the mod.I haveI also know javaI looked at the codeYou don't know what you're talking about and it shows
>>2440889There's literally a listing on the ships that have levels in their hullmod section. And on endgame enemy fleets you can see them use level 7 (max level) effects, such as Wolf/Medusa teleporting around with their modified Phase Shift, or Novas getting a shitload of damage resistance. Those are not passive effects you can ignore the existence of, they actually happen right in front of you. You can even modify the NPC fleet level variance in the settings. But sure, keep pretending you know what you're talking about.
The problem with any mod that increases the s-mod limit is that enemy AI ships will just get random s-mods that may or may not drastically improve the overall functionality of the ship. Meanwhile for the player it allows to optimise insanely OP builds. Same goes with exotica technologies, bionic alteration, and just about any other powercreep mod. They're all very thinly veiled cheatmods.
>>2440896You don't even need mods for that. Best of the Best is one of the objectively best skills in the game for a reason.
>>2440897Mods like progressive s-mods and the like allow you to boost ships to upwards of 7 s-mods without the cost of dedicating skill points into a tree. Pretty big difference if you ask me.
>>2440896Like another anon said earlier, most of the balancing problems stems from the AI just being shit at the game. I don't think it'd be reasonably hard to make late game fleets have specific S-mod setups (some mods already do that with their scripted fleets) so that they don't seem so arbitrary.
>>2440894YeahThose do exactly nothingall you're seeing is just placebo
>>2440926You did not play the mod.
>>2440844to be fair, last I remember the designs are entirely unintuitive, what with the dainty dragonfly being much tankier than that fucking bulky battleship bug and the fucking fighters are the worst with that fucking hyper tankiness and regenerating health on top of having standard weapons and the flux to shoot them constantly.if your fighters are, on a 1 to 1 basis strong enough to kill omens, you've failed at balance.
While I have no idea whether the masteries actually work for enemy fleets I can safely say Ship Mastery System is a cheat mod for the logistics masteries alone.A single Atlas being able to carry over 5k cargo is insane.
>>2440973>A single Atlas being able to carry over 5k cargo is insane.vanilla bulk transport + s-holds gets you past 4k
>>2440973You don't need more than 2 vanilla Atlas' (and that's already pushing it) worth of storage anyway. 7-8k cargo will carry everything you need unless you're trying to ferry around multiple capitol ships while exploring (lmao) or autistically need to stockpile all the useless food/ore/etc you find while exploring.
>>2440896lol I saw a guy use exotica once and it was just rigged as fuck. was like, "people play like this... why" >>2440961yeah back then I just remember LOLFIGHTERS XDEEEE ALL UR FRIGATES AND DESTROYERS R DEAD :^) and there was this busted-ass large energy weapon that was like 700 damage 700 range and like no flux cost. they would invade everyone with like 9 of those capital spam fleets and have like 40 fighter wings per fleet. I fought off an invasion once for like an hour, and was like 'fuck this gay shit'
Gib burn drive or plasma burn or, ideally, plasma jets to this mofo so it can keep up with fast cruisers on the opening dash. It doesnt have enough guns to kite at the distance anyway so no need for maneuvering jets.
In the upcoming extended mode, besides doing stuff at the core like trade, bounty hunting and stealing convoys, the only profitable end game without colonies will be basically aiming for the blue AI skill and run a crewless fleet to hunt ordos? Or will fuel expenses fuck this one up too?
>>2441019it already has jets and unstable injector lol
>>2441047Its still slow!
>>2440986I have the need to autistically survey every planet and loot everything of value.Except probes with defenders, fuck those.
>>2441019>Falcon (P) is too flow, Gotta go fast>Not taking polarised armour for the speed boostSkill issue
>>2440360An idea came to me in a dream to have each "faction" have 3 tiers of fleets decided by how retarded the fleet's particular admiral(strategic AI) actually is. Decided by the orders he gives, officers he uses, and variants on his ships.Tier 1 is basically vanilla AI, retarded, full attack dakka mode. Tier 2 has a core of decent ships with good officer selection that he knows how to use, but the supporting elements are still used poorly. Essentially the fleet has 1 actually scary "fist" but everything else is still kinda ass.Tier 3 is essentially riced player fleet tier. Optimized officers and ships for a specific playstyle that is then used relentlessly, and you better know how to counter it or space yourself now. Like tier 1 pirate fleet commander could be just a particularly successful druggie with a life expectancy of 2 more weeks that has a bunch of shit frigates and a couple of armed freighters he just throws at shit.Tier 2 would be called something like gang boss and be the type of pirate smart enough to survive but not ruthless or cunning enough to thrive. He would have a core of good converted military ships like the Falcon (P), Shade (P) etc that he would keep in formation while he commits his cannon-fodder to the fight hoping to split your fleet up and pick it apart with his actually good ships. The tier 3 would be something like a Fleet Boss or warlord and do the same as above but with nothing but good, (P) ships and better weights to his decision making. If i only went into coding rather than business and could write that shit myself, oh well.
>>2441073A proper tier 3 fleet would rape 99% of players, including (You)
>>2441076That's the point, by the end-game you have unlimited resources and fleets, might as well have the other factions put up some sort of a fight by having a couple of absolute thug fleets on your level.
>>2441089'On your level' will never happen simply because AI abuse is a thing.
>>2440994Yesterday’s Hivers vs today’s Anubis spam, who wins?
