I remember playing a DoW mod that introduced titans and stuff, it truly was absurd. A titan would have a range covering an entire map. Dark elder had invisible titans and focused on killing my detectors. It was truly retarded.
>>
>>2440947
Probably Ultimate Apocalypse. Most kitchen sink mods have titans nowadays.
>>
Some poeple say DE is good, but others say it's pretty bad. What are pros and cons of the DE?
I tried playing the OG a few years back, but it wasn't well optimized for modern PCs.
>>
>>2440949
Probably. Well in any case I'm bored of Warhams and Frozen Throne has much better gameplay.

>cons
You're paying premium for an old game
Some of your fav mods might not have been updated to work on DE.
The font looks like shit right now, but that's due to a recent update which might undone/tweaked with a upcoming patch.
Playing skirmish for the older games requires you adding a specific launch option.

>pros
It just works on modern platforms, but new patches might cause a period of instability until an hotfix is released.
Most active competitive playerbase.
Balance patch support.
Mod development is now focused on supporting DE.
Mod tools are slightly better than the old ones.

What do you think
>>
>>2441003
Looks pretty okay, the wargear looks interesting but the units animations look really janky specially when they say that it was a priority for them.
That ork guy played like shit.

This is a con
>Playing skirmish for the older games requires you adding a specific launch option.
Can you also play multiplayer in the older modes? That is the dealbreaker for me. I want to be able to play vanilla DoW or WA, not be locked to S*ulstorm
>>
>>2441193
Apparently yes, but most people play Soulstorm.
If you want to play vanilla add "-modname W40k". If you want to play Winter Assault, add "-modname WXP" instead. You'll need to change the launch option each time you want to change module.
>>
>>2441003
It looks way too much like Dawn of War 3 mixed with elements of Dawn of War 2. FFS why is it so fucking hard for these devs to just do an updated Dawn of War 1? That's literally all that people have been asking for years but we keep getting this shit.
>>2441063
>but the units animations look really janky specially when they say that it was a priority for them
It's the Iron Harvest guys so it shouldn't be surprising.

Ork player played fucking terribly. Was expecting a green tide but he didn't do that. He was floating on so much req and power sending small groups weak groups at the Space Marine player. He should have been pumping them out constantly
Apparently the low tier Ork boys and shootas become free when at full waaagh according to the UI description so he really should have been pumping them out constantly at that point

Hello everyone
Ive recently bought dow 1 DE,am having alot of fun but my fav will always be dow 2 personally and i just love martellus and diomedes too too much.

Its been ages since i olayed dow 2 on disk but the steam version is on sale so id like to ask you guys 2 questions.

Does it have all the dlcs? And how does it run on modern machine and hows the steam version?I dont wanna have another battlefleet gothic 1/2 moment where its broken and doesnt even start.Im fine with some oldjank rare crashes as long as i can play the campaigns again.
Cheers to all
>>
>THE WAGES OF SIN ARE DEATH!
>>
>>2441898
DoW 2 Anniversary should have all the DLCs. It works fine on my kinda old machine.
>>
>>2441898
Steam Version runs fine because Retribution released on it directly. I've haven't had any issues with it on the others. Thank God they removed that awful Games for Window BS
The Chaos Rising campaign was great and for me my personally favourite. The Aurelian Crusades are such underrated events in the 40k universe, shame really that only DoW players know of it while most 40k fans especially the tertiaries have never experienced it or know of it
>>
>>2441795
Holy shit this is ugly, have they fixed it yet?
>>
>>2441003
Orks look weak, he didn't recruit higher tier Ork units and Ork vehicles just got mogged by one meltagun unit and one tank. Also no permanent dead bodies like in all Dawn of War games...

No Scouts for Spess Mehreens and they went all in with Infiltrators/Reivers, epic fail.

It looks like a weird hybrid of Dawn of War 1 and 3, at least the animations don't look that janky anymore.

I'm glad I won a Commander's Edition copy from them, otherwise it's wait and see mode for me.
>>
>>2442235
>It looks like a weird hybrid of Dawn of War 1 and 3, at least the animations don't look that janky anymore.

it does still have retreating but at least the retreating guys don't bolt out of the fight like usain bolt. hopefully this means you are actually better off expending squads and not meticulously protecting them like in past games

also noticed a distinct lack of MG squads locking down huge chunks of the game map and bogging the game down to suppression slop. also probably a good change too

I'm not big into 40k but I know Orks have some kind of morphic resonance thing going on, it would be interesting to see diminished experience from dead units transfer to new units. I like CoH but the universal retreat mechanic seems antithetical to the vibe of 40k.

Looks great. Factions all play differently
>>
>>2446080
yes i'm quite surprised that all the factions look fun and interesting. i was annoyed that imperial guard didn't make it in but orkz, admech and necrons look fun in their own right

i liked the necrons aesthetically in dow1 but it seemed like they whiffed it on how they played. they had too many bullshit units that distracted you from a-clicking a bunch of warriors down mid. here it looks like the warrior crawl is the backbone of the faction and the gimmicky units are for shenanigans
>>
>>2446063
Do units not get thrown around by explosions? I didn't really see it happen either in this video or the previous one.

>>2446063

>>2446063
It looks decent, like surprisingly decent. I though Iron Harvest was ass and I was worried this game would be slavjank with a 40k coat of paint but it looks like a real game.

One obvious issue I see with Necron though is their resurrection gallery mechanic. It feels like it's designed specifically to reward you for spamming one unit type which is definitely going to become gay and lame as soon as players have their hands on the game.
>>
>>2446151
>It feels like it's designed specifically to reward you for spamming one unit type which is definitely going to become gay and lame as soon as players have their hands on the game.

it didn't seem that effective for the necron player, it seemed like he overcommitted to making spamming the warriors and galleries. they seem good as a way to churn value and wear down the enemy but not useful as a main playmaking force

>>
>>2446151
>t it looks like a real game.
Don't get confused by graphics. One thing to note that I saw is that combat didn't look very tactcal. Extremely fast paced to the point nobody could really outflank each other.
>>
>>2446155
>a PR guy couldn't A move to victory so it's fine
I'd argue the opposite, the fact that the PR guy fell into the trap of spamming resurrected chaff all game and never building any anti-vehicle units against the vehicles destroying him demonstrates exactly why the design here sucks.

Rewarding you for spamming one unit is the same as punishing you form building anything else, which is exactly what drew him into the trap of trying to just spam his way forward instead of fielding any counters or supporting units. It wasn't until he lost resurrection chambers that the psychological lock was broken and his brain finally let him build anything else.

Competent players will probably find a more cost-effective or better-scaling unit to spam resurrect on but the issue isn't that it might be imbalanced, it's that it directly pushes players into a pattern that's both gay and lame. Whether that play pattern wins them the game or loses it for them doesn't really matter.
>>
>>2446063
Admech look fun as fuck. I am unironically getting a little hyped.

>>2446185
It's just a med bunker with bells and whistles anon, this guy didn't play orks properly either. Devs being bad at their own game is the standard.
>>
I wish there was a Heroes 3-like (fast turn based strategy game with similar overworld/combat map split) Warhammer game.

Dawn of War is still the best strategy game ever made in the 40k universe, but it doesn't go that well with the real-time system + "one of our squad is engaged in melee with one (1) guy? everyone, drop your rifles and surround him with your batons" [(1) guy is the demon lord]

The melee engagement system should've been strictly unit-to-unit basis (and in return make it easier for melee units to stay in engagement so no more "hehe, I will throw this unit a bit away so my AI resets and stops engaging in melee now") not unit-to-squad basis
>>
>camera very zoomed out compared to dow1
instant boughted
>>
>>2446274
DoW2 had the best unit controls.
>>
>>2447047
No, it didn't. Melee combat was peak jank with its weird ephemeral animation lock rules. Some attack animations locked in fast and dealt damage, others had such a long windup the attack got cancelled because the enemy was running away. It was weird, inconsistent, and annoying as hell. I MUCH rather preferred DoW1's seamless fluid swapping between combat states.
>>
I refuse to believe stripping out unit collision was the only way to improve pathfinding.
>>
>>2447098
Did you play 2? The CoH cover system meant everything had to path terribly, melee was dysfunctional and weapon teams were fucking awful. They never made it work.
>>
>>2447098
removing unit collision from any coh game would instantly improve it. i don't think there is a satisfying way to allow 2 slow vehicles to get past each other in a tight area without pissing the player off.

desu for any non simulation RTS i'm quite happy with "ignore collision when pathing, but make the units repulse each other when they're too close" as a way to handle collision
>>
>>2447125
actually now that i think of it, i think COH does have some mechanic where if the pathing is too involving then tanks just phase through each other lol
>>
>>2442527
You are right. DoW fans will just play modded DoW1 until the end of time.

DoW4 looks like it should be a huge step in the right direction being basically DoW1 with DoW2 power mechanics and more and more distinct factions, greater units variety, and modern 40k stuff.

However, it also has CoH2 commanders. Which were a huge cancer on that game and will be a huge cancer here: designed to sell microtransactions and encourage grinding.
>>
>>2447353
CoH2 commanders don't matter much. Every faction came with at least 3 with the game and one of them has always been meta. If they release a broken overpowered one for 10 bucks then you can call me on it, but I'm not worried about it. The game will be a DLC vehicle with factions if it doesn't flop either way.

What can they realistically do to get people to shell out? Named commander from your favorite chapter? I doubt it, the game is blood ravens centered and they told people to just use army painter for other chapters, no cato sicarius for $10 here I think.

Unique vehicles? Like what? That hover rhino instead of a rhino? A slightly different pattern leman rus or baneblade hull? I'm sure it's possible to package some cool 40k thing in a special commander but I'll believe it when i see it.

Honestly looks kinda cool, definitely needs more weapon options tho.
I like the idea of having a base unit for specific roles, that can be upgraded into a specific type of unit.
Imagine doing something like building an APC, then upgrading it into an artillery platform as the guard, maybe giving a bonus to firing speed for units garrisoned in it, I think that'd be cool.

Regular enemies have decent bulk on normal. It's the bosses that are ridiculous.

Can you choose the equipment of each soldier in the squad or is it a package for all of them? I'm just thinking CoH where some of a squad can have great anti-inf weapons and a few At weapons too or making them all one or the other for specialization.

>However, it also has CoH2 commanders.
They really need to stop trying to push this sort of thing.
It sucks, just put the abilities on a building or ingame unit, then the player has to actually build towards the point where they hit your incoming attack with a "no fuck off" orbital laser as opposed to just casually unlocking it with points as the game progresses.
It feels the same way sprint does in every first person shooter, it makes sense in some games, but doesn't need to be in every game, and pushing it in places where it doesn't need to be feels like generic trend chasing.
>>
>>2450540
With commanders you can add 10x the variety and options to a game than if you just make things into superweapon buildings.
>>
>>2450574
Yeah but it's a cheap solution to add variety.
Actually having to build a building is more satisfying because you're pushed towards interacting with the game's existing systems and fitting it into your build planning, and can change your strategy to move towards it mid game if you think it's the optimal choice, all while potentially broadcasting your intent to the other player if they see you starting it.
With leaders you pick a guy and get X amount of abilities that you can call down.
Sure, you may not get as many options before you start the match, but it does offer greater flexibility during the game itself.
>>
File: glorious slaughter.gif (2.55 MB, 320x180)

>>2450583
You can have both. CoH2 gave most factions building chain options. Do you want the infantry building right away or do you want light vehicles? Support weapons or skip a tier? It would be more complex than desirable if you added all the commander options as buildings. With commanders you can have choice in the rigid part of the game and in the commander options. You can go into the game planning to play commander 1 and play commander 1, or you can see your opponent is doing something and counter him by picking commander 3.

If all the complexity is tied into buildings there will be fewer options available because a meta will always develop and with buildings, you will probably only have binary choices while commanders offer you not only 3 choices, but a second level of choice on top of the building choices(I'm saying 1 out of 2 buildings multiplied by 3 commander choices equals six options rather than if there were 3 or even 4 building choices which only give you 3 or 4 .

>implying a meta doesn't develop with commanders
when you make the choice during the match there is much more potential for off meta play where you feint or catch your opponent off guard
when you have to pick everything and then go into the game you are always going to be inclined towards the meta conservative options because you cannot rely on an unusual game state

It's right, even ignoring that they will sell them and make you grind for them it is bad game design. Decisions should just be in the match.
>>
>>2451008
Then they picked an early game commander and you can just pick their counter. You have no idea how CoH2 played, do you?
>>
>>2450943

The random barracks around the map will all produce attack waves and clearing them will help take the pressure off you a bit. Having a good early game where you get through the initial wave mostly unscathed and/or take out a few barracks early on that map I think is the main key to surviving it.
Hammerheads (and skyrays and fire warriors) deal a lot of damage and outrange your shit but are fairly squishy so you have to manually target them.
Building some assault marines might work? I haven't done a campaign with SM in ages though and have no idea what DE has done to them.
>>
>>2451925
I don't remember shit about Tau stronghold in DC, but SM for me always relied on at least two tactical squads with rockets to snipe vehicles from afar and dreadnoughts in the front tanking while terminator/tactical heavy bolter/plasma squads focus fire individual squads and delete them from combat
put your dreads in the front so your everything can get close enough to fire
you will take casualties so better have breathing space in terms of resources to reinforce immediately
>>
>>2451255
not him, but it's you who fail to understand that picking an early game comm and revealing whatever special call-in or stuff it has early is the same as if the dude built buldings/units in a commanderless game and poked with them early revealing their intent and strategy
there is no tech to hide there, you know they went early build and if they don't win there it's over for them anyway
>>
>>2451932
>sm is the weakest faction which is just another reason why dow1 is bad
DOW1 was fine in vanilla and WA. DC is when they completely obliterated the balance and fucked the whole game up. Eldar probably had the highest skill ceiling but SM was very strong if played competently.

I wonder what kind of new factions will be added to DOW 4 post-release. My first guess would be the usual suspects like Chaos or Imperial Guard but knowing GW they could try and push the Leagues of Votann. Which I wouldn't mind because while they are slightly more barebones compared to the other major factions right now their addition could be a good way of showcasing obscure Imperium weapons tech that the actual Imperium factions don't really use anymore in canon. Plus it'd differentiate DOW 4 from its predecessors in a big way like they are already doing by adding the AdMech.

I want to play a game where you have something to do. DoW4 is aimed at actual retards, so developers made it as simplistic as possible. There are no mechanics like moral or suppression, units have minimum active abilities (or any utility outside of basic attacks), cover system is reduced to odd buildings here and there, and most hero items are just passive buffs. All of that, plus unrestricted reinforcement, turn lategame into a blobfest. You just attack move across the map. It's incredibly boring and sterile.

I'm up to mission five of the definitive edition, and I have to say, it's quite fun, but at the same time, it's getting a bit samey...

Every mission just kinda feels the same. You build up listening posts, you spam space marine rocket squads, and then you charge until you win. I guess I had fun spamming Whirlwinds for maximum artillery barrage, too. But infantry is practically irrelevant, it's just the ork tanks that are a bitch to fight.

Quite honestly, I feel like this is one of those games where I'm playing it way too damn late...after enjoying more "modern" RTS games with all the trinkets and baubles, it feels lacking.

I'll probably just slowly go through it, since doing more than one mission at a time just makes me feel bored by the end of the thing.
>>
>>2454726
I mean that’s kinda how RTS games are at their core. You gather resources, expand your base, build up your forces and then send a huge army at your opponent to crush them in a cathartic display of annihilation.

Space Marines are especially guilty of this because their infantry is designed to be incredibly versatile and near unstoppable when fully upgraded. Other factions aren’t this bad though and require putting some thought into how you play.

Okay, I have checked every single motherfucking corner of this stupid fucking map. But the mission won't finish.

>>
>>2455839
what does your objective say you're supposed to do
>>
>>2455785
Capping the points isn't necessary, but it does make your job easier.
You just need to destroy all Chaos buildings and units.
>>
>>2455857
Also, you should be capping every single strategic points you see. Dedicate a Scout Marine squad in your army blob to capping points as you destroy every Listening Posts you see.
Use Land Speeders to quickly scout for enemies to kill.
>>
>>2455839
for the vision at least, so you can see enemy movement around the map
>>
>>2455785
This mission is easy as fuck, capture the entire bottom half of the map early with your marine squads and then hold the bridges against the AI while building up your forces until you can get 4 Land Raiders then proceed to absolutely murder stomp everything on the other side of the map.

Playing through Dawn of War 2 and got mixed feelings. I like that they introduced some COH elements into the gameplay and the improved visuals look nice but the fact that the armies are so small and a lot of the maps are constrained to a samey kind of symmetric design means that it doesn't take full advantage of it. The lack of structure building and upgrading also really hurts it, there's no gradual progression where you start small and then progress to all-out warfare, it's just limited skirmishes all the way through. I suppose that was the point but it's not really fun and I'm getting bored of it very quickly. They needed to do something along the lines of COH 2 instead.

The campaign is even worse because there's only 2 mission types (defend point/kill boss + maybe destroy some extra stuff) and you can only have 4 "hero" squads including the Force Commander on a mission at any point meaning that it doesn't even feel like an RTS but a shitty knockoff version of Diablo. I have no idea why Relic decided to do it this way but it's not fun at all and is very repetitive. It just makes me wish we'd gotten the Tyranids in the original Dawn of War so I wouldn't have to play this shit to experience them.

Maybe it gets better in the other two expansions but from what I've seen that doesn't appear to be the case.
>>
>>2456238
Space marines don't build static bases and churn out hundreds of dudes - the entire game is basically an insurgency and utilising a scalpel/spearhead approach rather than a hammer. This is how Space Marines normally fight in the lore - shock assaults and decapitating leadership.
>>
>>2456246
Most Space Marine chapters also have like a thousand dudes max and generally send maybe 4 or 5 guys to clear up a planet because they are canonically 1-man armies. So clearly realism isn't a huge consideration here. Gameplay should come first and it's just not fun the way that DOW2 is structured.
>>
>>2456246
that maybe true for space marines but it's not for orks, tyranids or the imperial guard
>>
>>2456246
The more entertaining engagements involving space marines see them deploying one or more companies at a time to fight. The other factions don't build bases that magically conjure people either but it was an abstraction that allowed dawn of war to provide reasonably large engagements and grinding battles.
Dawn of war 2 even maintains the base that just spawns units but removes the building and reduces the battle size to some of the most pitifully small scales imaginable even compared to company of heroes.
I'm not sure of what motivation would drive someone to use warhammer and dawn of war of all things for that kind of game.
>>
>>2456246
>>2456247
>>2456261
IMO, Space Marines should either not be a separate army, and simply be call-in special squads/units for Imperial factions, or they should be the most ultra elite faction ever designed in an RTS, in that they work like a DoW2 faction planted into a DoW1 game, e.g. their unit power level per model should be at least 10x of a standard full guard squad, they don't need to construct buildings beyond a "base beacon/starport" and probably don't need to collect/sit on resource points, similarly to Necrons.
That is, if you want the "lore accurate movie marine" experience, which we know is mostly propaganda, since the vast majority of major (and not an insignificant proportion of the minor) xenos enemies the space marines canonically face are actually superior to them at a baseline performance level in at least one aspect, if not multiple.
Keep in mind that during the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy, where they were at their peak in both numbers and gear/power level, they were still dying in droves on the regular and some legions had "IG meme casualty rates" canonically.
>>
>>2456238
I like the campaign, but
>a lot of the maps are constrained to a samey kind of symmetric design means that it doesn't take full advantage of it
is very true. There's so many "junk" missions that are just not fun to spend an hour plodding around the map to get 10 stars. Even then, the XP bonus and deployments are basically meaningless because everything scales to your level.

dow2 has a great campaign if you don't do the generated missions
missions have multiple paths and you are graded on performance in a way that impacts your overall campaign, although they didn't go nearly far enough
maps are recycled too much that is undeniable but that doesn't mean they always play the same and they do evolve slightly

dow2 was really a prototype rts/rpg and had amazing potential imo
chaos rising did improve things but it still needed more choices, builds, and rts elements, since it's more of a tactics game with a strategic layer outside of battles

retribution completely abandoned this and has an utterly garbage campaign because really retribution is a multiplayer game with a phoned in forced campaign

a campaign with hero units, wargear, and impactful branching choices but with escalating rts elements, as the story escalates, would be goated: some missions with just heroes, some with just one or no heroes and generic units, some where you command guardsmen, some where you only have a few fixed buildings to train from, and some where you have all the skirmish tools
the sc2 upgrades system was a lot of fun as well

Huh, does mission rating really affect anything in vanilla DoW2? Chaos Rising added the heresy slider for heretical behavior and that one does affect stuff a bit (which is cool).

>>2458263
>Warlords Battlecry
I'd bet every faction has the same "campaign" with a huge number of missions, the only thing they got going for the campaign interactivity is that you haul a leveled up hero around (t. someone who only played Warlords 4 for a bit and some of Puzzlequest, I really should get into Walords series more). Lords of Everquest has different campaigns for ALL 3 factions that let you take your leveled up hero, his artifacts, the Knight subcommanders for free AND some of his units for a certain gold cost (basically unit cap for transferring stuff around). And Lords of Everquest is MID as fuck! As in, it's really average.

Dawn of War 2 DOES have at least one extraordinary thing going for it that it has improved with every addon: the sheer number of unit lines for every situation. Both for heroes and ordinary units. Space Marine squad runs into Ogryns? They will say they are fighting Ogryns. They see Imperial Guard? They say something about Imperial Guard. They are getting raped or taking a nod? They can tell you just that. Warlock casts Immolate (hero wargear in skirmish and ability in retribution campaign), you will hear:
>STEP INTO THE FORGE OF VAUL
or
>THE LAND SHALL SCORCH AND BURN

The only other RTS I've played with that had this much detail and love or even greater put into that would be Brutal Legend. Like here some examples for both games that are probably incomplete:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TV5iZ6BvceY (Doviculus, the "hero" of Emperor of the Tainted Coil faction)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LOFLpzEvTM (Scream Vagon, Tainted Coil's buffing unit)

Yeah, I am the person complaining about Retribution and III above and I did like DoW2 campaign - though at release besides the story missions, it was only the randomly generated missions that were about killing the boss at the end and fuckton of defence missions.
Chaos Rising reworked the base game campaign to make it less repetitive.

The base game DoW2 campaign is very open-ended which I appreciate. Chaos Rising started being more restrictive and scripted and then Retribution just went full retard and even further with III.

>>
>>2458378
Lmao. DoW2 has: HQ upgrading, buying squads in a match, fighting over resource nodes, upgrading resource nodes and even structure building if you pick certain factions//classes (turrets for Guard/Techpriest, giga-nigga turrets for Guard, Webway gates for Eldar, Shrines for Chaosniggers, among other). If an RTT has more RTSness than that then it's an RTS or has an RTS mode.

>retribution completely abandoned this and has an utterly garbage campaign
Retribution has by far the best and most fun campaign because it is no longer limited by Games Workshop purist autism. For the first time in DoW2, Retribution tapped into what people actually liked about DoW1, including some actual VARIETY and FACTION BANTER.
The existence of Space Pirate Orks alone makes Retribution the best campaign in DoW2. And I didn't even touch upon the unique Chaos mechanic of god favor alignment which was a very nice and unexpected bonus feature.
You're telling me you actually liked the characters and story in DoW2 vanilla? I honestly can't remember shit other than hurr tyranids and hurr eldar before that. There isn't even any story or narrative, just space marines being boring space marines.
>>
>>2458773
>Retribution tapped into what people actually liked about DoW1
Being an actual RTS instead of a MOBA? But retribution didn't do that?
>>
>>2458773
It's good that every faction get their own story. It's bad that they all have the same missions to do besides the intro one. It's bad that only Orks and SM (kinda) have a fully voiced cast and every other faction has a voiceless (in story) dummy character. And it's a Farseer for Eldar. It's VERY bad that they all have the same missions to do besides the intro one. They also hyped up the Blood Ravens' inner war in the previous addon and personally Retribution doesn't deliver.
>There isn't even any story or narrative
That's the wonder of Tyranid plotlines. Tyranids come to eat a planetoid, hoomans try to defeat them and sometimes they do. VERY imaginative. Space Marines do talk and banter with each other. As I understand Rogue Trader's tyranids (before the setting became Warhammer 40k) did hold planets and maybe were less united as they are now and they still were said to have been unstopable if they decided to actually destroy all others. Think they were better before. Now they have to rely on Genestealers for any diversity of their plot.

Chaos Rising has better and more interactive PLOT.

Hello everyone, hope all are doing well.

Im the dude that asked about if the dow2 on steam has all the dlcs and if it runs well on modern machine.

I read the replies and am thankful for and also yea all the dlcs are there ontop of working very well with no issues so i had alot of fun replaying the 3 campaigns again.

Dow2 is genuinly such a peak game and rts in general,i highly recc it to all.Its abit shame that dow4 is looking half baked and kinda meh desu i just dont trust the new devs after trying out iron harvest wich made me hate it from the get go when i gave it many chances regardless of shit being seen from km away. And ofc these kikes are selling prologue and epilogue as dlc wich is....

I genuinly dont see it do much especially compared to tw40k wich is also shaping up to be great from what im seeing.

Gotta say dawn of war 2(and to a lesser extent dawn of war 1) handled difficulty levels in the worst way a video game can: just making enemy units do more damage. It's lazy and creates worse gameplay.

>>
>>2459454
It has no base building. You do not build recruitment buildings, you do not build research buildings, you do not build resource buildings, the game doesn't even have builder units.
Defensive structure calldowns does not equal base building, otherwise dota has base building. Most of the maps are shitty little claustrophobic linear series of lanes with barely enough room to maneuver the already tiny armies that game lets you have in the first place, I'm pretty sure dota's map is bigger than most of them.

Genuinely what is so bad about base Retribution pvp that warrants fanfiction trash like Elite Mod and Codex Edition, to the point where there isn't even a single video of vanilla pvp? Soulstorm has hundreds of vids that aren't Unification, Pro, or what have you.
>>
>>2461005
It replaces the angel of deathly beauty of Diomedes's voicelines with some generic shit (that maybe partly uses the voicelines of the previous mp force commander). It uuuuuh makes it so that banshees either can jump and can't melee vehs at all or can't jump but can melee vehs a bit with the Exarch (in original banshees can do both). After some "crazy breackthrough" in DoW2 modding it considered adding that stuff but I have no idea what's its current status is. Has a new faction which is basically what if space marines but + humans.

Looked okayish but honestly what they did to Captin Diomedes was a travesty.
>>
>>2461064
Nothing really, I think. The mods just add more units and at least new factions. Okay, orks and maybe tyranids also get new buff buildings they can make anywhere in Elite.

>to the point where there isn't even a single video of vanilla pvp
Are there even several people making those? I know like one that's been constantly doing new vids and I understand he just takes the community's saved vids and those mainly (I'd guess) appear on some Elite mod discord or some shit. I once or twice found a vanilla retribution on the channel but maybe he has a bunch. The vanilla pvp is livelier than some so you can just play it if you want.

There aren't any bridges on that map first off and second you realise you can see the number where each player will start when you're in the lobby? Just set starts to fixed positions and then have the player you want on your team in the corresponding number in the lobby. It's not rocket science.

No, the game will try to automatically bundle teammates together if fixed starting points is not picked. If the map is too symmetrical and the spawn points are incorrectly set, the team locations might be completely scrambled. Pic related.

I stared playing Anniversary. I use DoW mod manager because it has Better camera, 4gb patch and larger fonts built in along with high resolution, widescreen and some other graphical enhancements and nice to have settings. Also through mod manager I downloaded "Increased Fog Distance & Sky Radius" mod that goes well with better camera mod. I didn't bother with any keybind mod. Game looks great and play how I remember it but obviously you need some tolerance for it's jank including the pathfinding.
I finished DoW campaign, WA Order and now at WA Chaos mission2.

When I did the DC campaign, I decided to make a list of all the relic units granted to you for the Forward Base mission, with each faction:

>Eldar: Avatar x1
>Chaos: Bloodthirster x1 (This was right before DE's release so my info here may be off, but from what I recall the best you got was a Daemon Prince)
>Imperial Guard: Baneblade x2
>Tau: Greater Knarloc x3
>Space Marines: Land Raider x2
>Necrons: Restored Monolith x2
>Orks: Squiggoth x2

With the myriad other units you get plus all these relics, though, the mission is still fuckhard; it took me a couple tries as a couple races to destroy everything before my relics went down. What I did was get Deep Strike & Fury, then rush Forward Base ASAP before the enemy raises the territory's strength; 7-8 are bearable enough, but if it raises to 9, you're fucked. The enemy WILL get its own relic out and curbstomp you.
Chaos definitely got the short end of the stick, though. Bloodthirsters are frail compared to other relics, you only get one and they just don't deal the fuckloads of damage that the others do to the buildings that stop the fuckin' relics from coming out in the first place.
>>

>>Chaos: Bloodthirster x1 (This was right before DE's release so my info here may be off, but from what I recall the best you got was a Daemon Prince)
I'm a retard and forgot to clarify that the Daemon Prince is the best support you get alongside the other units—Chaos struggles in the mission even with this because they get nothing better.

Soulstorm campaign is rife with bad decisions like forcing you to kill every building.
My least favourite one is the planets, you start off fighting 1 faction in the starting planet like 5 games in a row or more if you start farming defense missions and the enemy AI very rarely leaves its starting planet.
It kills the pacing for no reason as you're forced to fight the same faction over and over again

>Why do you people want this to fail so badly?
I come from a country that over the last 80+ years has been beaten into submission by history and communism. After such a long period of time of losing over and over, the vast majority of people not only give up hope but also turn their despair into derision. They cant take anything serious and mock any kind of attempt of making things better, or worse they encourage failures. This last part is even more pronounced with newer generations that didn't even live through the worst of it but learned the mocking behavior while growing up.
I see very similar things happening in many other places/communities, one of them being fans of certain game series or game genres.

tl dr answer: past performance is the best indicator of future performance
>>
>>2463846
>Why do you people want this to fail so badly?
I don't want it to fail, but I know it will fail because the devs fresh previous ambitious project Iron Harvest turned out to be a smelly turd showcasing the devs have no idea how to design a good RTS game.
We also know Games Workshop is incredibly involved in all new warhammer games, and their autistic approach to guarding the lore to the fucking letter in their gay little handbooks.
Guarding the lore to the letter has no place in game design, which is why nearly all modern warhammer games are shit.
E.g. Boltgun and Darktide are severely held back by GW's autistic insistence on keeping the environment bland generic grey shit everywhere always at all times. Because that's what they sell in plastic form and they keep treating warhammer video games as advertisements for their plastic shit. Completely missing the point and opportunity this medium provides, but thats what corporate niggers do - theyre useless and blind
>>
>>2463851
>That can’t be right because Winter Assault added Khorne Berzerkers. Also Horrors were in the base game’s campaign.
WA made them into Chaos's anti-vehicle infantry. In vanilla DoW, CSM could have missile squads just like tac squads, while WA removed the missile upgrades from CSM to shoehorn them into a less-flexible role.

>Not to mention the fact that they just went with the Khorne theme all the way through (with the sole exception of Horrors) rather than diversifying the lineup more.

I mean that's kinda the way 40K media goes. Each decade pushes a different Chaos god - 2000s was Khorne, 2010s had Nurgle and now in the 2020s they're pushing Tzeentch. I expect 2030 to be the decade of Slaanesh.
>>

>I expect 2030 to be the decade of Slaanesh
There's no way Slaanesh is ever going to see any form of relevancy ever because not only are GW so safe and boring/scared to begin with, but true Slaaneshi representation would require a real 2d porn connoisseur to survive and thrive within said soul-sucking corporat environment.

Slaaneshi corruption = Herm Tyranids/Skaven with giant horsecocks (multiple, not all between their legs) sucking themselves dry and raping and pissing on everything they can. Slaaneshi meddling = A Lord of Change not being able to enact his plans because he suddenly got horny and started commanding his army to breach his cloaca.

Why did GW make Relic use Blood Ravens instead of Ultramarines (thank fucking God, total Smurf death), but let the notoriously lore-broken Chaos legion of the game be changed from OC to the Alpha Legion?

storytelling freedom, something GW no longer grants licensed developers
>but let the notoriously lore-broken Chaos legion of the game be changed from OC to the Alpha Legion?
because Alpha Legion is the dedicated jobber faction of the 40k universe, their sole purpose of existence is to be heroically defeated by "the good guys"
>inb4 muh there are no good guys
Nearly all stories are told from the point of view of the Imperium and we are humans IRL so we are the good guys in that universe too, you can cope and seethe about it all you want but you know I'm right.

So apparently in Mission 4 there is this weird-ass bridge entity that only exists if you overextend the the Clan Wartrak base before your Whirlwinds finish taking care of the Clan Grim base at the start.
I tried crossing it and I don't think it worked.
Once I destroyed this Mek Shop it just spontaneously collapsed.
>>
>>2464889
Hey, I'm not the one in charge. Not my fault nor my problem. And don't act like other inter-faction warfare always ends up with SM or Imperium winning.
>>
>>2455997
No it was a cliffhanger that gets developed in Dark Crusade's SM campaign, and finally pays off by the end of Retribution.
>>
>>2465650
Sorry to say this anon but by now I've kinda gotten bored already, I stopped playing around the time of the ork campaign of the winter assault. It felt like every mission was just getting...boring.

Maybe at some point I'll get back.

Unpatched bugs and lack of polish, mainly. I haven't played either in years, but I remember the Great Unclean One had really janky animations that made him hard to use effectively in MP. Elite mod fixed those kind of issues, added GKs, and renovated the existing faction rosters (instead of flooding them with garbage like most DoW1 mods).

What is OC? Ordinary chaos or what does it mean? I don't recognise those colours
>>
>>2465655
That's completely understandable, I always found DoW1 and WA to be dull. I won't lie, Dark Crusade's missions aren't great either, but it has a hell of a lot more flavor in the characters and lore. Even the little stories you get from the "info" button on each territory are more compelling than anything in the previous 2 games.
The actual blood raven story doesn't properly start until DoW2. However, it retroactively uses a lot from previous games if you pay attention, even Soulstorm.
>>
>>2465664
Well, elite mod (when I played) kept the same number of units, and they usually filled a similar role to what was replaced (ex: guardians replaced with dire avengers).
Meanwhile, the big DoW1 mods add dozens of new units/structures with redundant variants. Some even put anime and gacha characters in them for the hell of it.

original content. term used for fanmade stuff in an established setting, become standard for new things in spinoffs and such. they're saying relic were intending to use a legion of their own design, like the blood ravens are, instead of a pre-existing one.
am i old? goddamn

What happened with the dow1 apocalypse mod? I remember being in the discord years ago and seeing that it was basically all wiped at one point
>>
Ahahahhahaha these idiots delayed the game till december 3rd its so fucking over, this shit gonna bury dow as a franchise harder then dow3 ever did
>>
>>2466570
There's no point to delaying it, from what I've seen they haven't learned anything from Iron Harvest and will repeat exactly the same mistakes. The issues with DoW4 are fundamental, like the maps are huge, units are tiny, and it just seems really boring and pointless. Just deathball gameplay, everything seems slow as fuck too, but maybe that's due to the tiny scale

What a shit show. 10 mil tiny nerfs and buffs for a 20+ yold game like it's some live service crap. I'm so fucking glad I didn't buy the defective edition. Anniversary with some qol mods is all you need.
Are these the exact same retards that are making dow4?

The visibility/readability is so shit that they decided to put icons on units like in SupCom except in SC they are used for the strategic zoom, not when you're at ground level zoom.
Official pic from steam btw. Full of fog and dust and muted colors. In an RTS.
>>
>>2466799
The scale is just fucking awful. Everything is beyond tiny. It's total war game design principles and not RTS ones

I mean look at this shit.
Left, you can barely tell what the fuck you are even looking at.
Right, you can very clearly tell you're looking at 3 wraiths, a necron lord, immortal squads and below then regular necron warrior squads. All unit silhouettes are instantly recognizable against any environment.
Inb4 some midwit responds with muh graphics, no, that's not what the issue is. You can make a pretty game and make unit silhouettes easily discernible. It's one of RTS design principles, homework King Shart never did
