let's talk about the game, your favorite custom maps, what you've been playing, what units you love/hate, pro matches and tournaments, and more.
>>
I never played WC3 custom maps, but I played the shit out of stockcraft 1 customs. I might still have the maps downloaded on an old computer

Diplo gold

The great war
The Thing
Dawn of the Dead
A wide range of resident evil maps
Evolve
Naruto 1v1
Nexus wars

Mario party
Risk
French revolution
Many WW1 and WW2 maps

So many fucking maps

I really liked the Thing custom map, the atmosphere was great and it was worrying trying to complete the objectives quickly while the Thing stalked everyone. I know Among Us has turned it into a meme for the modern age, but back then it was top notch.

The only other maps I really liked were the RPG maps, taking a hero unit and continually upgrading its weapons and armor to 99 over the course of an hour or so was cool.
>>
I remember playing a specific Crash RPG EXTREME variant or something where we *almost* managed to beat the map in 2 with a dedicated random who played the battlecruiser hero while I played ghost, I used lockdown on bosses and he yamatod them
unfortunately the map broke on us probably more than an hour into the thing, the zerg overwhelmed the starting location crashed battlecruiser and I think we couldn't deliver the mcguffin and end the map because of this
epic memory for a lifetime anyway. I'd replay the map but I swear to god there are like 200000000000000000 crash RPG variants out there and I've never come across this particular one. I just remember it had black zerg, and there were various bosses, and the map wasn't simple but utilized small stair doodads and shit, it was cool as fuck. Space/Asteroid tileset

why is it so common for protoss to get busted by hydra rush? why not just be less greedy?

Are the maps in asl pool too restrictive? Is it desirable to have very samey-looking games out of maps with tight ramps and bottlenecks placed around first and second base? Why does every single map in the pool have safe overlord camp spots, and not only some of them?

Also what's up with Leta doing the same 2-port build in every single game and getting so far? How hard is it to blind play counters to 2-port wraith? Feels like niggas are just phoning it in at this point.

Brood War has a triangle. Tech > cheese > eco > tech. Every opening revolves around navigating this triangle. Soulkey randomly 7 Pools and doesn't care if he wins or loses because he just needs his opponent to know that he's going to do that sometimes to introduce that doubt and push their psychology in a certain direction. Essentially what you're saying is "why doesn't the Protoss always win in the opening mindgame?", which isn't a very easy question to answer. Even the best players in the world like Soulkey can drop out of the ASL because they keep getting cheesed over and over.
>>
>>2458262
>why not just be less greedy?
because if you're not greedy, you will be outscaled by zerg production and overwhelmed
if you play safe but don't get rushed, you lose because the opponent has an economic advantage
if you play greedy and get rushed, you lose because you have nothing to defend
Brood War is not a game you can play blind competitively, you have to scout every time and make the correct conclusions from what you see every time
It's also why BW is based and fun to watch while SC2 plays BO9s and every match looks and plays exactly the same way

In Brood War too. Maps are too safe. How many maps where you can't even do a proper zealot or barracks rush cause the middle of the map is unbuildable and ramps are too narrow? There's a new map which gives terran free comsat apparently? wtf is that. Why is the trend towards more visibility and not less? We need way more chaotic, scrappy games. I want less of what we getting and more of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=okzTPhwiZmg

What are some things you have noticed but are never mentioned in Tastosis casts? I noticed soma has this sublime way of controlling overlords during hydra busts where they keep coming one by one from several directions. If one gets taken down, another one is coming. Never seen any other zerg control their overlords this well.
>>
>>2458262

Tossers are retarded. They were only good back when no one knew how to play, 2000-2006. PvZ is a LITERAL cargo cult, ffe into corsairs is completely useless and gay. Same with Terrannies, by the way. The current era clearly shows that game knowledge and Zerg Chads winning are directly proportional. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
>>
>>2458262
>>2458385
>>2458432
Don't forget Zerg can also muta. Soma in particular is notorious for abusing the Zerg mind-game advantage to the max by refusing to tech until the probe scout is dead and then suddenly mutas show up in your main instead of hydras at your nat.
>>
>>2458796
>In Brood War too.
This entire discussion literally started with a statement that unlike in SC2 with their 12 worker start for the longest time until recently, Brood War's early game is different every time and making the choice to play greedy or safe is an outcome-defining decision.
>Maps are too safe.
They literally aren't. You haven't watched any of the past 5 ASLs. You get both run of the mill balanced ladder maps and some wild crazy maps with islands and triple-ramps, and there even was that desert map splitting the match into 2 lanes where the second only opens in mid game when you mine out.
>>
>>2459021
Oh and don't forget 76 where you can go greedy and expand immediately through hallucinated minerals into a safe natural. The hallucinated minerals disappear after 56 irl seconds and prevent you from expanding there until you research air transport tech for your race.
That's what you call "too safe"? This is the anti-thesis of safe map design... get your head out of your ass and actually play the fucking game

>Brood War's early game is different every time
If by different you mean making the decision to build one more factory or to build couple more zealots than usual or to make a hydra den instead of spire I rest my case. We need more maps which produce chaotic, scrappy games; not a variation of the same old build orders.

>They literally aren't.
Oh you mean that one map where Zerg rushes to ultras with 0 interaction while also being able to deal with any Terran pushes which would break Zerg on other maps? Yeah I seen that one.

Modern zerg players are genuinely just better than the other races.

Protoss on the other hand has the worst player pool by far. The top protoss player last season was Tulbo out of all people, that should show you how grim the situation for protoss talent is.

I don't know why they keep claiming they're making anti-zerg maps and then do absolutely nothing about the fact that mutalisks have free reign over the entire map
It's like they're racing against each other who can put less building space in main and natural mineral fields. If Terrans could put more than 3 pitiful fucking turrets that will slightly tickle ONE mutalisk, maybe, just maybe, we could see something else than nonstop 24/7 zerg nigger ez mode domination
>>
>>2462386
>It's like they're racing against each other who can put less building space in main and natural mineral fields.
This is also a direct buff to zerg since zerg never wants to waste a single drone on a defensive building if they don't have to.
More building space near mineral fields is a buff only to T and P, it changes nothing for zerg. And they won't fucking do it.
Hell, don't make it building space, just give ANY space so dragoons and marines can actually fucking get there and start shooting. Holy fucking shit for being so good at the game koreans are absolute trash at recognizing the source of the issue
>>
>>2462392
its funny they also took away 80% of the building zone in octagon. you'd think we had a terran winner since they did that
>>
>>2462392
>it changes nothing for zerg
makes it easier for them to defend a cannon rush but only Best tries that anymore at a high level. While every single zerg player abuses shit map design and pounds at peons with mutas all day every day with 0 repercussions until late game tech rolls in (might not even roll in if you get harassed to death in the process of trying to get storm or irradiate)

>>2462392

There is enough space to build enough turrets and cannons on all maps, it's just that Terrannies and Tossers like to skip static defense because this is the only way they can win, i.e. cutting corners, gambling, blind tech, stupid gimmicks, etc. Zerg Chads typically prefer to go without static defense since sunkens and spores are absolutely awful considering that each building consumes one drone, and their build time and damage is on par with Terranny and Tosser static defense. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

>Brood War is not a game you can play blind competitively, you have to scout every time and make the correct conclusions from what you see every time
This is one thing that struck me, obs would show one player going for a "sneaky" play (rush / tech switch) and then show the other player and he would be already preparing for it and I didn’t even catch how the hell did the even scout that. Obviously the players read a lot of things indirectly, from knowing the established strategies and how they set up on their border and all; i.e. the plays aren’t even meant to be that sneaky in the first place, they are pretty obvious if you know how to look. But the level of interaction is absolutely insane.
>>
>>2466356
>Obviously the players read a lot of things indirectly
top tier koreans make conclusions based off the in-game timer alone a lot of the time. Because they have it figured out what can be and can't be achieved in that timeframe since the beginning of the game
>I saw 4 zerglings at X mark so that means now it would be impossible to have mutas out already
>this means I can expand and only then place defensive cannons, because I know the cannon warping in will finish by the time the mutalisks can arrive at my natural in the worst case scenario
A lot of games are like that
>But the level of interaction is absolutely insane.
It absolutely is, to the point where zerg players expect fucking comsat scan timings at particular time intervals, so they can e.g. start upgrading the spire to the greater spire to bait a reaction to guardians, but when the comsat vision wears off they just cancel the greater spire.
This level of mind games is simply unfathomable in SC2, SC2 is just mindless spastic gookclick in comparison
