menace thread, is anyone playing?just picked it up during summer sales, and its scratching an itch that the newest jagged alliance couldnt (i refunded it), so far its doing a lot of stuff right for me, just playing on my first run on normal difficulty and ran into the army dudes which were a nice difficulty spikewhats your (starter) team? for me its>pike>darby>rambonigger (gave him the pirate jump suits, an mg and some close combat weapons and hes a beast, only supression can be an issue)>bigchin pilot (standard mg and the rocket launcher seem to kill anything, if anything spamming vehicles almost seems like an overpowered strategy maybe?)i didnt know about the weary mechanic and was pissed about it at first but after hiring a few more leaders its honestly not that much of a dealfor just being early access im having tons of fun for now

>>2444365this
>>2444336Waiting until they add some more content. The new SLs are neat but don't really make me want to start a new run only for them and a new bughunt type mission. Probably lim, carda, pike and bog. Figure the sooner you get them the sooner they'll level up their shit attributes.
>>2444365based
>>2444336We had threads going since the early access dropped but they've died a few weeks ago with all the content talked to death. Basically everyone is waiting for more stuff to drop while the devs are taking too long to release batches of content that are way too small.
>>2444411They died because it was one of the worst generals in the history of this board.
Getting lucky with a jumpsuit early on, buying a shotgun, and taking Tech + Pike makes for a powerful jet-boosted nigger terminator. The AP count is insane
>>2444411At least they added custom difficulty options. The way to play is 200% enemy supplies and uncapped loot.
>>2444336Still waiting for more content. Sure there are new squad leaders are going to be released along with new stuff, but I would like more story content and how the TCR will get screwed if the MENACE manages to take over some of their forces (or take over their combat androids).
the lack of a strategy layer makes it hard for me to come back
>>2445126Does it go higher than 200%?
>>2444336it was fun but it lacks depthit looks great thoughi think really it needed better cover mechanics but maybe more tools and enemies can fix it
>>2445680>better coverHow so?
>>2445685most maps are vast open spacescover only applies if you are standing right next to it (unlike xcom as foil)it ranges from basically useless to utterly impenetrable with little in betweenthere are no interiors (which would make many weapons more useful and aliens less pathetic)i don't want to say>they should have just done xcom coverbut really i do because it is still the absolute goatand i full appreciate that it's a squad based game so there is the argument that you simply couldn't have that system but there isn't even any attempt at a system which is more complicated than>stand next to these tiles and get -15% chance to be hitdestroying cover might as well not be possible because it is never relevant and you can't create cover eitherif it comes down to a dichotomy, i would swap the squad system for actual cover mechanics in a heartbeat but they wanted to make their game more accessible and simple than xcom et al
>>2445744Indulge me, how isn't the cover literally how it works in nucoms? Without overwatch but with concealment but that's something else. A heavily urban planet would be great, that I agree with.
>>2445744Because the game isn't about hard cover at close ranges, it's trying to mimic a cover/suppression system. In real life most things that are "cover" can be shot through and are mostly cover from observation than from actually being hit.You people don't want them to iterate on their existing mechanics, you just want to play a entirely different game.

>>2445861>i thought i was extra clever building him this way when thats what everyone does apparantlyFor me it's jump armour, shotguns, tripod heavy machine gun and an explosive charge to throw. This makes him the one squad leader equipped to counter literally any enemy in the game.
>>2445896Just too bad you could've brought two-three other SLs instead for the same cost.

>>2445918>we deployed three squads>one is just tek with 50 guns>other is just pike with a bag of meth>in reserve we have a greek larper oiling himself and mumbling something about armlocks and asshole drags
>>2445126>The way to play is to trivialize the game by getting a broken amount of loot and doubling the amount of loot pinatas.>Yes I ignore side objectives and will spend 10 rounds chasing down the last enemy. Why are you crvsty ass nerds like this? It is also completely broken. Moreover you never shoot through cover here. You just abuse op cover ignoring weapons. It's also why bombardier is the only alien which is at all threatening.>In real lifeA great deal of fighting occurs in urban areas and is close quarters combat. Arenas in Menace are already primed for it but you can't even enter the giant warehouses. Even the trailer shows cqc. Some kind of cqc would solve the current issue of abusing range and concealment and armor being too expensive and shitty to compete. Also battles aboard spaceships when? We are literally space marines.

After normal became too easy I restarted on challenging and holy shit. Are you supposed to only do bug mission for your first operation? Pirates kept swarming me and with the standard weapon I had no chance to kill them quickly enough, because their numbers eventually kept surpressing me and the pilot ran out of ammo. Bugs were way easier sue to range abuse and once i had 2 crowbars pirates stopped being a problem as well
>>2446030Ane space pirates in space suits called "boarding commandos" fight exclusively in atmosphere? If the game never has battles aboard ships then I will be very disappointed
>>2446074>pirates stopped being a problem as wellSkill issue. Good on you for overcoming it.
>>2446142I wouldn't hold my breath for space ops considering how heavily they're already indexed into vehicles and indirect fire heavy weapons. But it would be neat if they added some form of indoor battles.
>>2444336>is anyone playing? No. Lack of strategy layer and too much retarded ai force most of players abandon. Even most loud degenerates go away from steam forum (maybe it finally can be place for feedback).>im having tons of fun for nowGood for you.
>>2446166Vehicles are op and cqc would make currently bad things serve some kind of purpose.
>>2446242Hey, space hulk was one of the first games I ever played and I don't have a problem with them adding some more cramped maps I just don't think it's likely they'll do actual boarding actions short of a dlc couple years down the line.
>>2446242>vehicles are OPman there's some real shit takes around here lol
The new James Bond SL is the most ridiculous thing ever. Using the humble pistol to delete 3 alien warriors in a turn is pure fun.
>>2446157Well scratch that, i just got destroyed on a 3 skull contract, had to reload like 5 times. Fuckers kept swarming me while a missle truck unloaded, couldnt rush it down because i got buried in bodies and laser trucks kept my vehicle from going in.
>>2445861>Is there some universal menace hatred or are other devs lurkung here trying to shittalk this game? Lmao whats going onbeen wondering the same. this game is good, REALLY good, its everything xcom players wanted and needed that solved the "ogrewatch" issue by having layered turns and proper suppression mechanismthe only downside is that there's no indoor combat and lack of content, could also use big titty snake aliens for humans to marry and impregnate
>>2447365You're being way too generous aka the game needs a lot more time to cook before being called good. >>2447372Well I should've specified that the combat is what's really 10/10. Strategic layer and base management on the other hand is just so heavily WIP that I just didnt think about mentioning

its kind of boring, they should add in subplot quests/events that affect the overall narrative
>>2447918She also has trash discipline and defense. If it wasn't for her one gimmick I would never use her for anything. I don't like any of the 1 star heroes except the Jeet and only because he can use a crowbar to suppress better than an LMG, and can tank bombardier shots

They may be useful if you can get your squaddie health and damage reduction up to high amounts. For example Tech with Die Hard and Haemocetan can't be killed. But I didn't find use for it in other situations. Outside of Die Hard, damage reduction is calculated weird or something because you can get it up to huge levels and still get wiped.

Just started the game enjoy it a lot, what would you guys recommend for the IFV? I got the autocanon and HMG but there is the short barrel tank gun on sale, but isn't it dogshit at fighting other enemy armored hostile?
>>2449302They added a new engineering mechanic for making gun upgrades out of Menace giblets and are reworking OCIs completely. Added 3 SLs and had multiple smaller patches in the meantime. I find it absolutely hilarious how saying Menace is a good game causes some autist such catastrophical asshurt that he's forced to go on a crusade to argue with each and every anon that they're wrong
i just found out why this guy has such a hate boner for the devs. he's making an AI art version of Battle Brothers called Mercenary Brotherhood. the way the dev blogs for that game are written are similar to this guy's posts.
>>2449431And he says the game is shit because only the meta play works, but when someone agrees with him he has an alternative meltie about about how the meta play is actually fun. Same with the AI. There is no point other than no one else is allowed to be right.
Haven't tried the irish chick yet but Corlaine is my least favorite voice so far. Sounds too much like some guy at the office trying to sound gruff than the mob hitman he's supposed to be.
>>2449382Stop being dumb and gay. Grow up.
>>2449545Roslin is the only one not annoying. The China guy is kind of cringe although it's fun when other SLs clown on him for it. And he has huge damage output. The being able to fight while low on squaddies skill is also a neat bonus but not something you should aim for.About Corlain, did anyone figure out what to do with him? His skills make it seem like he should get up close, do big damage, and instantly go into concealment. Except the concealment thing doesn't work, the AI is smart enough to have object permanence.
>>2449563So far I've just been using Corlain as a second Darby I bring along for those "kill less than 50%" enemies type missions. He's okay with a DMR and handgun.Wei however is fun to use with a shotgun and jetsuit as soon as you can unlock his last skill. Zig-zag, buff, and his innate skill make him very difficult to kill after he's jumped up and destroyed two enemies.
>>2449563Corlain with a pistol and AP ammo can delete just about any infantry unit in the game with a single round of shooting. I was using him in bug city missions cuz he can easily delete 3 warriors in a single turn of shooting and has unlimited ammo.

Close to roleplaying, but that runs the risk of stumbling across something that is too good in your desired setup, so it becomes more of a variant of metagaming.perhaps some might see the appeal in this, but to me it speaks of lazy devs relying on the playerbase to fix their game while asking for them to pay for the privilege

>>2450744I'm trying impossible run ironman (67% own supply, 200% enemy, 1 SL, 8 squadddies only, etc). And this can be done with Carda. Wait until her ability maxes out. Hang in the LZ. let the bugs come to you one by one (they patrol and will see you eventually). ARC is required. Melee bugs are no problem. Ranged bugs: wait for when they appear. they'll stay outside ARC's firing range. Next turn do two tiles forward and fire. You'll almost always kill them from that range. You may have to tank 2-3 hits. I was unlucky and lost one squaddie. Never crouch, it's a death sentence - you won't be able to move away quickly enough. If you don't kill a bug squad in one attack it's basically over and you need to restart. If there are bugs alive seeing you at the end of your turn you will always get overwhelmed unless most of them are already dead.

Btw about running ai from attack range zone.It still present. Tested today.Hidden unit was 1 tile away from zone. 2 enemy untis sat on their asses during like 5 turns, so i restated.Next try whey sit like 4 turns until there come 2 more units, and one of them come in range of detection my hidden unit.3d try i move my hidden units closer, so both of initial enemies step away from attack range. And when 3d+4th units was near one of them also come to spot my hidden unit.

This is the most okay/10 game I've seen in this category. It's better than all the nucom variants except maybe Phoenix Point and worse than the good XCOM games and Battle Brothers.I can't think of ways to make it more interesting either.
apparently trucks can (or always?) explode and do a lot of damage to unit standing on the tile next to them>fight already won, just salvaging>went from 6 squaddies to 1 despite buff and heavy armor>almost shit my pants
>>2452323>phoenix pointWhat the fuck is wrong with you anon?
>>2452303>it's real in my headI've seen nothing of the sort for months now. The only real complaint I have about AI is one missions where you have to capture and hold a point, they tend to just hide at the edge and never really do anything, but that's an obvious bug on one type of map.

What's the point of suppression when you can kill? I feel like it's one of the games the plays entirely different than what the devs imagined.
>>2453225>but hitler wasn't having it!kek based black kween
>>2453276The idea is that the machine gun makes the target keep their head down so they can't do anything about the riflemen moving around their fortification so they can shoot them in the side or back. This doesn't work in videogames very often because cover is too complex to implement well.Cover tends to be pretty binary, either you're in cover and take no damage or you aren't and get rekt. This game models it so that even if you are in cover you take some damage, so flanking isn't required and the better tactic is to keep shooting until the target dies rather than expose yourself trying to manouver around them. Also the other problem with suppression in real life is that it doesn't work if there is nowhere to manouver to because the front line is an actual 500km long line.
I like the scot pilot girl you get from ZB. Easily least amazing of the honor guard, but it's a joy to hear her voicelines.
>>2453295>Also the other problem with suppression in real life is that it doesn't work if there is nowhere to manouver to because the front line is an actual 500km long line.IRL small unit tactics allow for this, and it kinda sorta works in the game. Fire and maneuver doesn't always mean flank, you can simply win the firefight, suppress your opponent and then leapfrog advance on his position. It's why defensive positions have to have overlapping arcs of fire to prevent this, but then the attacker brings superior numbers to counter this problem. The issue is the game simply has too many units on a field at once for it to work. They need to reduce the amount of enemy units, reduce the amount of damage taken in long range gun fights and increase the effects of suppression and make it so isolating and destroying relatively strong individual units is a thing more than just gunning down hordes of chaff as efficiently as possible which is what it currently is. This would also make grenades far more effective and important since, just like real life, a dug in enemy that you've suppressed is best dealt with by simply posting grenades into his position
>>2453297>Easily least amazing of the honor guardI'd say the chink wins that one. He's good, but he's entirely replacable and doesn't do anything that other strong infantry squads can't do.The tank girl has some personal traits that actually do something that can't be replaced, and Overtime is stupid good when it kicks in.
>>2453340Maybe I'm just having that impression due to her special being utterly useless past very early game.
>>2453424Yeah her starting perk is lame, but I guess a free squaddie is a free squaddie.Insurance is uniquely good though, since it allows you to ignore one objective on every mission without any impact on your economy. The higher the difficulty, the higher the value it brings. Short Squeeze is potentially good but awkward to set up, License Agreement is a bit niche but it's still a guaranteed disable on some very powerful enemies, and Overtime is just amazing since it's a free shot that costs no ammo, and it works with accessory weapons as well. With Tankbuster, Overtime, and a long tank gun, she can basically one-shot anything.
>>2453473Her starting ability is strong as hell early game. Being able to wipe out an enemy squad, having it act as a decoy for at least one enemy attack, and provide vision around it is insanely strong for only 40 AP and no ammo cost. And the amount of times I've seen a conscript squad immediately turn around and murder an RA weapons team or Scavengers RPG a rocket truck is pretty significant. The free squaddie is just a bonus.

>>2453533Seems like a waste on someone that can take mobile infantry.

interesting game idea suggestion: tactical squirrel with infinite range but can only kill one enemy squad member at a time
start posting, stop letting the thread die, there will be consequences
200% enemy supply makes the game so much more fun
They should just remove the magazine pouches. There's no point to balancing the game this way or imposing an equipment tax whenever the difficulty goes up. Make the additional ammo option default and free up those slots for a variety of tools that meaningfully change the game. [ancient old opinions from prehistoric times]Woo being behind the Backbone is dumb, no more medical facilities is dumb, or at least multiple quarters sure seem to have a minuscule actual rescue chance compared to just one adv medical bay. This cripples the player when going up against high enemy supply settings because the attrition rate becomes too extreme. Orbital OCIs having their uses tied to operations I can understand because they were trivializing structure destruction missions, but this approach really makes these things feel like they have no real purpose in the long run.
>>2453680i kinda like having the option of bringing more squad weapon ammo, you are usually better off bringing something else tho because long term high intensity rifle use is pretty rare outside of early game since rifles arent great at dealing with vehicles and heavily armored infantry at long range. how much ammo your squad weapon has simply doesnt matter all of the time, it only matters some of the time. run more mid size and small squads with machineguns and all your ammo issues with squad weapons tend to go away, but it still lets you run a few bigger rifle squads who might actually need more than 16 shots per mission
Wait a second is the jeeta skill based on ramming/running over people a reference to juggernaut culture? it makes too much sense
>>2453721shes a nuclear gandhi reference
>>2453308This entire conversation revolves around the study of battlefield density which is one of those crucial factors in military science that never gets mentioned outside of professional circles. What we are describing here is the problem of the dense battlefield, in that you can't go anywhere without running into a gun barrel. So you can't suppress and flank because the flanking squad would step out of cover and get shot by the 3 other enemy squads. As technology progresses, we are getting this strange effect where battlefield density increases without a corresponding increase in manpower, which is why actual modern ground warfare is about groups of 3-5 guys on the front line, each supported by a hundred others running drones, communications, jamming and analysis for them and there might be one tank involved. And said 3-5 guys barely ever shoot their rifles, they instead get told exactly where, when and how to throw grenades.Menace hasn't gotten to that level of boringness, but it gets worse every time a more powerful long range option is introduced. So how do you fix this? The obvious answers are bigger maps or smaller forces, but personally I doubt it's really fixable and the correct answer is to milk the fun out of this game until the novelty wears off and then go back to playing Battle Brothers or whatever.
>>2453756Battle brothers is a true gem and this is unlikely to ever be a better game. I wish they realised that themselves. On the other hand, given current year, going back to BB and trying to either remake it or heavily focus on expanding it now could only ruin it so idk. Monkeys paw is a real thing
>/fit/ competition aboard ship>leg day skippers denied victorylol
>>2453308lmgs in game lets you do frontal advances on suppressed enemies like you describe. finishing them at close range with a small assault squad armed high pen smgs is very cost effective in menace. we are just a tricky terrain formation away from finishing these units with grenades being the most effective way to play if they also had better effect vs the great armor that the average RA unit has
Imagine having orbital support and using it
>>2453903That's my favourite way to play. What I'm saying though is it doesn't feel like a battle where I come under contact, go through the battle drills and then isolate, close with and destroy the enemy and advance to the next contact. Instead I get swarmed by shitters, I mass suppress/break them, slaughter them at range without issues and then spend a dozen turns cards can moving over the map completing meaningless objectives. This game has the potential to rally mimic real world tactics but it in their sci to setting, but instead it just doesn't quite take advantage of its own mechanics and logic.
>>2453913it's so annoying how almost every mission has a fucking objective for avoiding collateral
>>2453913I've also grown fond of just flattening any fortified position or just carving a corridor through a city with mass bombardment.Looking forward to getting the OCI that gives 3 extra uses per ship weapon so I can dump 6 barrages per mission.>>2453980This is where the irish pilot comes in. She just auto-completes that side objective so you can just glass anything that bothers you.
>>2453913>exploding vehicles destroyed adjacent buildings causes you to fail secondary objectivesthat's some bullshit, should I wait until it moves?

>>2456374Too bad bro, they wanted to make the KIA callouts really mean it.
>>2456374The squaddie resource kind of needs to be permanently strained or at least fluctuating. You can turn the settings off in a new game to stop squaddie death. To be honest any squaddie death should be a rarity if you are playing correctly, you should MAYBE lose a handful during 3 star menace ops or after using vanguard in a poor position. Also, blackmarket gives you the option to buy them for a reason. If you don’t want to pay, stop letting your boys die. What enemy units/scenarios are giving your sqaddies trouble?
>>2456091Renu and Sachin built up a modicum of jeet tolerance but then I am thrown back to my previous disposition by their typical behaviour. They have actually killed this website with their behaviour. Reporting/jeeting up the boards among other swarthy types. What a shame, the internet used to be cool.
>>2456377I wish we had urban maps for the other factions but imagine the menace suicide bomb units? They already sit behind structures and ambush on mixed terrain maps…it would suck…but also afford cqc sl’s more opportunities.
Restarting for the OCI rework and customizable difficulty. I'm enabling cheaper armors, and you guys can't stop me.
>>2456564there are times in the midgame where its almost impossible to avoid casualties on highest custom difficulties. its wildly rng based tho

Overtime works even on non-targets. Here the squad to the left was hit with collateral spread from the Griffin miniguns and that was enough to trigger the ability (direct fire on them even). Does this work on the long spray attack of the miniguns? I'm certainly about to try the next time I get a chance.>>2456688Real men hire Jean Sy because that's what's available on a operation going bad and she causes even more losses because she can't hit the broad side of two barns.

>>2457090Ah yes. That means we need to continue doing everything we can to make the thread worse, in the name of tradition.

Any ideas for a good cheap support vehicle? >>2457137I accepted her video on this run and it actually was naughty but self deletes after one viewing, then she sent over a oci component gift barge lol. Never has that event ended that way lol
>>2457205Double machine guns on a ifv with engine booster and ammo. Its about 300ish and effective against nearly everything outside of heavy armor.Cheap pirate trucks are not worth bringing at all. The tcr car with an atgm, camo net and booster is also good for having an immediate atgm on anything. Position it diagonally, then use rhe booster to reposition and fire onxe you spot something. Combines well with the oci targeting relay.Another good option is a rosin with scout ability and optics upgrade mounted on something fast, you can use it as a highly mobile targeting/scouting vehicle. The crocodile rifle also allows for quick suppression and killing important targets. I wouldn’t mount the grenade launcher unless the sl has the aoe ability.
>>2457219Does it play more like nuxcom or old xcom?
>>2457383Its similiar, but on completely another level. Turns are layered, you order around one squad/vehicle and then hit "end", the enemy does the same. Then its your turn to move another squad/vehicle and so on. You dont get the LOS dodging and "kill everyone on first turn" issue nuxcom had. No ogrewatch either. Armored tanks, IFVs and MBTs behave and function very much based on common sense. Both inf and vehicles have morale, but only inf can be suppressed. So you can just pin down inf and force them and vehicles to flee if they witness casualties and/or receive enough fire.Theres handful of enemy factions that behave and fight very differently so you get to try out all sorts of equipment. No sims-tier customization of dudes like in xcom tho
>>2457383nucom, sadly
>>2457229It’s already been paid for by the German taxpayer, there’s little incentive to actually fix shit. It’s like HBS Battletech, mods might fix it in several years but vanilla will always be absolute ass.

Menace is really addicting game, its biggest downside is that its not being updated fast enough
>>2457434Yeah, more content, some better balance, and, if the new updates still haven't fixed this since I haven't played in a couple months, better AI that doesn't run away all the time, and the game would be really fucking good. But the core for a great game is there. Speaking of not having played in a while, is the fixed-weapon tank remotely good yet?
>>2457436No one in this thread is saying the game is fun except Germans.

>>2457210Yeah, it's good. It's not really easy, especially starting out. It's easier than BB though, partially because there's less reliance on RNG and partially because one setback isn't likely to ruin your entire campign.Roughly one-third of the content is in right now, not counting stuff like balancing and bugfixing. It's more campaign-focused than BB, though it's still not a story-heavy game. Mostly you just do random missions (or rather mission chains) but they're a lot more more stuctured than BB's "go some poorly defined distance in vaguely north-western direction and fight someone, then come back." Right now there's only one real story mission, but I'm assuming there will be more of those since the game does seem to want to tell a story.
>>2457383Neither, really. It's closer to oldxcom in that it uses something similar to time units instead of nuxcom's dogshit two-action system, but it also uses something similar to nuxcom's cover system.Outside of that, the entire scale and scope of the game are just very different than either of the xcom games. You're not controlling individual soldiers but entire squads at a time, and vehicles are bigger and more impactful.
>>2457556>>2457404Okay its going on the wishlist. We will wait for 1.0 so see you all in game in 3-5 years.

>>2456751I got it to occur with twin Swarm launchers. Sure is nice to play custom with max drop rates. Shot at two bug swarms that were out of range but inside the AOE splash radius, Overtime triggered and she continued to shoot at the targeted empty square, killing both bugs. Just the fact that it costs no ammo alone already makes this a fixed pick in any Roisin build but maybe it really is too good as-is.
>>2458438And it just happened with a VMAT on a blaster bug. Literally conjuring a magic missile out of thin air. To answer the original question, I'm sure it will work with a howitzer or any other AOE cannon if it can do this shit.

>>2460186>Bro she gets good after 10 operations, xxx promotions points invested, once you get the gear, and the mission is on turn 8+.I dont know, man, you are not very convincing. I prefer to have some reliable, when the only the only thing I have are peashooters, than the promise of Carda with 120 AP when the end of content screen shows up. By the end game, how much does Carda having -+10 in any stats matters vs having any pilot with double autocannons. Or the long term benefits of having good gear because you are acing your first operations.
>>2460186He really is.
>>2460213>why does a 200 point murdermachine who can delete three vehicles/squads of pretty much anything a turn with the heavy machine gun matter when I can bring a 600 point pilot who can delete two?A real head scratcher.
>>2460220nta but mobile infantry + doesn't care about ammo is good enough. The rest is just icing.
>>2460220Because you had to drag say murder machine for this many operations before she turns into a murder machine, and you also are probably going to bring a pilot to get her around anyways, unless it is one of those defend are missions.
>>2460235Only if you're an idiot. Which makes even less sense when you consider this idiot >>2460178 (you) says that she's more useful if you get her mid game, which is when she's now got less time to grow.
>>2460242No retard, the point is growing her stats is a waste of time. She never becomes a "murder machine." She doesn't have the damage or the action economy for it. If you think she does, you have low standards for a murder machine, and you need to get good. The only thing she's good for is a support/special weapons role to fill the gaps when you have an extra few supply points left. That situation only happens from the mid-game. That's why you don't hire her before that.
>>2460242Stop babbling.Carda is a shit starter. She cant hold on her own. All the other starters, I can think of a reason to bring. I dont think that that "will be good 10 operations in" is a good reason. If you get a Carda for hire after your 3rd operation, or whenever she shows up for hire, and you want to invest in her, that is fine, because you will actually have the gear, SLs, numbers on your side, and economy to cover up for her being a liability,And you can even give her a MG if you have one, and she will might even start pulling her weight. All my runs where I got her as starter have been ass, because she cant kill people. She gets squadies killed. And I miss on farming easy promotion points because all of the reasons mentioned, plus the fact she cant get on extraction point before turn 10 if she ever has stop to shoot at someone. And no, I wont give her Lim's seat on the troop carrier.Jesus Christ, you and your butt buddy are two uneducated fools. You cant even make an argument or communicate ideas in civilized manner.Or are you just here to troll and shit the thread by making an ass out of yourself?
>>2460242I think him being an idiot is established. Samefag tho? That raises some additional concerns.

>>2460269>you can't argue>entire post is why about why you personally suck with her and a bunch of anecdotal nonsenseFigures
Lim as mobile infantry is a trap. He's the toughest of the MI capable SLs, and between run and gun, counter strike and blaze of glory, putting him in the vehicle is a waste at any point except for early game before you get Yaz or Wei who both need it more than he does so as to not get killed, and who lack as many ways to increase their AP efficiency otherwise.
>>2460356 he has to embrace run and gun and his super high average stat total and turn into a superstar scout by the time menace arrives. hes a superstar early game tho, Weiwu is just awful at most points of the game. Yaz has more viable playstyles than every other character in the game combined
>>2460356I don't use Mobile Infantry at all because putting your troops in an ATGM magnet was never a good idea. A heavy weapon on top of that vehicle will always do more than whatever AP you save carrying that squad around. After the OCI update infantry units can be stupid tough with the Muscle Factory installed, so having vehicles take all the heat is not always the optimal strategy anymore.
>>2460525My opinion is completely opposite, i think putting infantry into carriers is a good idea because it guarantees they have good cover and shields them from most of the AI bullshit. And ATGM teams are not an issue with a proper recon team on the field. Meanwhile heavy infantry is retardedly expensive to field in numbers that make it actually kill things and gets suppressed all the time.
I've been replaying the game on max diff for the first time since the EA dropped and I have mixed feelings. The game has been smoothed out a lot with the early difficulty curve especially feeling less impossible. I got 1st mission 1st op pirate outpost defense and DIDN'T instantly get swarmed and killed. But the enemy numbers are still very high, I just hope it curves back to the overwhelming amount of trash being thrown your way.AI is actually kinda fun now during day missions, they are still nasty and play for objective almost as agressively as if they were another player. People probably complain but I like it, it's realistic and there's no reason why pirates defending an outpost should and charge you instead of digging in. And the bullshit with AI always threading the needle between your ranges and avoiding your concealed units during the day seems less obvious and rarer even if you look for it.Night missions are completely and utterly fucked though. I just had one where 2 pirate chaingun trucks ran out of the defense area and STRAIGHT toward my 2 concealed squads which were moving off to the side to flank. Only for them to get pinned to shit by rocket arty the second move after they were "spotted". Boarding commandos jumping out of the fog right onto my APC to drop thermite on it. I had the LAST pirate squad in the mission sit in the fog of war behind a impassable building and ONLY pop out when my infantry squad ended it's turn into the open to shoot at it. Absolutely disgustingAnd armor is still insanely overpriced so you will never ever run good ones until super late game, so there is no point to run anything but spec-ops infantry with concealment. If you want anything armored you have to use vics which are comparatively super supply efficient and either extremely tough... or get disabled by a random grenadeStill to fight menace and test the funny upgrade mechanic, we'll see how that goes
>>2460589Recon team scouts for the vehiclesCannons are predictively targeted at potential problem spotsVehicles shoot the priority targets as they roll inHeavy infantry runs up to coverSuppression doesn't happen because discipline is highlol stubborn counterstrike lmaoEnemy is routed on next turnWhy yes I do play Custom nowadays with maxed everything for everyone (but this works the same on standard difficulties anyway)The thing is that enemies were actually more dangerous before the AI aggression change because now they run out in the open to their deaths. They could adapt to this routine better and force the heavy infantry to move more than shoot, but now enemies are almost guaranteed to smash their face into you.
>>2460596It's always the way. Instead of iterating on what they had and working to improve it, they listened to the endless kvetching by the shitters and retards and just implemented the quickest and easiest solution. So instead of having an intelligent enemy that tries to maneuver and avoid losing fights, it just rushes you aggressively and commits suicide by marine regardless of any other factors.
>>2460589Same. And it's rather fun to drive up or away and deploy a bunch of heavy weapons that can instantly fire.
>>2460589It works early game and to some very limited degree mid-game but eventually you start to feel the pain of not using heavy weapons on your vehicles. On Expert, RA basically drowns you in walkers making long tank barrel indispensable. Ivey with a twin M6 or a twin vulcan on the other hand does everything you'd want MI squad to do better. The further you get into the campaign the more vehicles replace your infantry as the main fighting force with normal squads being pidgeonholed into either scout and spotter teams maxing out concealment or heavy weapon squads that are much better off traveling via jetpacks. Anything more than 1 full sized kill squad with shotguns against menace and laser rifles against RA always felt excessive to me and never worth not fielding another vehicle that can serve a billion different utility roles or 2 more min-sized squads carrying M6s or ATGMs.
>>2461161nta but really don't agree with this. Only vehicle heavy weapon I found worth using is the long tank one and while good it's not better than having a pocket infantry squad. Then again I'm not using min-sized MI squads so they do a lot of damage even on their own.
>>2461189Ivey has passive 30% minimum chance to hit and 2 skills that lower heavy weapon AP cost by 15 and then by another 10. She also has cheaper movement after firing. So even at 90AP, she can spend 25 AP to fire at nothing, travel the distance it would take Bog all AP to travel and still have enough AP to fire twice for 15 AP with a twin M6, exterminating any infantry she fires on.Same applies to dual minigun with the added bonus that she can do drive-bys with the spray 6 tiles that also benefits from -25AP cost and 30% minimum hit chance.
>>2461197OK? Nothing about that makes her suck for combined arms plays.
>>2461197>>2461201 (me)Look at it this way. You're using linked heavy weapons on vehicles to deal with soft targets and min sized squads that carry anti hard for vehicles. I do it other way around, vehicles have anti armor while my large squads usually deal with soft targets. As the game progresses and my shopping list is complete I supplement that with walkers. I assume you're also using some dedicated scouts. You're sacrificing squad size for armor, I'm doing it other way around. Not saying one's better than other but I am saying both are perfectly viable and up to player preference.
>>2461206>both are perfectly viableActually not.Supply and action turns wise, minimal size squads better than anything other.*nta*
>>2461189lgbt is terrible now after agl nerf and only worth bringing vs lategame pirates or if you have achilleas vs RA
>>2461208Hey, try it this way and maybe you'll have more fun and be less of a sour cunt :)
>>2461208>you can only play my waynah get fucked retard. This game isn't that hard you need to minmax everything, and you aren't even doing that. You're just making a bullshit assertion that your is best cuz you're a fucking retard.
>>2461208lmgs and smgs is just one playstyle and it might be a really powerful playstyle for most of the cast but you get punished so hard for even the tiniest mistake that it shouldnt be seen as some sort of ultimate meta playstyle
>>2461225Pretty much.
>>2461208Ivey, with an APC and twin M6, and no other attachments costs just as much as a 7 man Darby squad with a silenced rifle and Jeager Fatigues. Achilleas with a medium walker and twin autocannons is the same price as an 8 man Lim squad with MTAP armour, the workshop assault rifle and RPG, with a maxed promotion tree. Vehicles aren't the only way to go friendo, and if you think my two infantry squads can't do the same damage as your two vehicles in the same amount of time you're simply a dipshit.

>>2461247>If you have a point make it.The point is obvious. For vehicles you only need the vehicle and a gun, most of them commonly available, and they are instantly good. For infantry you need to grind for 5 different types of equipment and grind for promotions just to get nearly as good as vehicles.
>>2461280>Achilleas with just weapons and no skills or accessories is as good as a maxed out infantry squad with the literal best weapon in the game and full accessories and end game armourNo he isn't>but they just need the weapon and no promotions or any other shitYou fucking clown. Sure. Take Ivey with her base stats and without full send or another promotions and no extra ammo on the lowest tier vehicle can carry an M6 and tell me she's gonna get good value. You disingenuous jeet, stop lying/being stupid on purpose and make a fucking coherent point or just fuck off. Holy shit.
>>2461206Fair enough I suppose. But from trying it both ways, I've repeatedly found that overrelying on infantry just bogs you down because you are either slowly crawling forward scouting out every encounter ahead of time or you go in blindly and inevitably leave one squad to get chewed out by any form of enemy fire.Vehicles have that problem too with ATGMs and Skirmishers, but that's a much more limited range of threats in comparison to anything with more firepower than a kpac.Though as of the OCI rework, my strategy shifted more toward just pinging everything with a radar and dropping massive barrage on any grouped up enemies and at 200% enemy supply you find those everywhere
>>2461280infantry across the board have better access to high accuracy firepower. they only thing they lack is mobility, the weakness to suppression from indirects isnt always a thing
>>2461288feels good that ion cannons went from shit to fucking awesome.
>>2461282>Take Ivey with her base stats and without full send or another promotions and no extra ammo on the lowest tier vehicle can carry an M6 and tell me she's gonna get good valuenta but I will. Her particular shtick is that you are always getting some hits in on rapidfire weapons. M6 will hit 3 times out of 10 on the average even at its worst which means it will kill 3 infantry and guarantee a suppression or wipe out a squad of officers/snipers/special weapon carriers. Pike's Taking Command is too expensive. He himself is a decent shot so having to spend 60 AP to give another unit 40 so that they can shoot once more or just walk a few steps isn't providing all that much value. It's one of the few skills that shuffles value around (at a 20 AP tax) rather than adds value. If someone like Jean had this ability it would be a net positive because she can't shoot and obviously someone else being able to shoot in her place is better. This ability should be 20 AP. If he stands perfectly still then he can shoot twice and make someone else shoot thrice. Or move forwards under cover and immediately give a nearby unit a boost instead of simply deploying or ending his turn. His other defining talents are Rally, Inspiring Presence and Firing Line + This is My Rifle. When you're playing well Rally can be a dead talent, and when you're playing badly against many enemies Rallying someone can just result in that unit being suppressed again the next second. It has uses but extremely situational. Inspiring other units with +15% acc and disc would be much easier if he could run up to them and cheaply give them +40 AP, meaning he isn't wasting his time not simply shooting enemies by himself. Finally his full rifle build spec semi-locks him into an anti-infantry role that can take down light vehicles with AP ammo. Would you rather give someone else one extra shot, or have Pike himself dumpster three idiots with Hammers / EM ARCs? The cost-benefit ratio is skewed way too much at 60 AP.
>>2461607You're mistake is seeing Pike as one character who has all the skills, rather than as either Support Pike or Rifle Squad Pike. You choose one of those builds, you don't build Rifle Pike and then add support skills. It's trivially easy to increase Take Command's relative value by making Support Pike's squad dirt-cheap. If, for example, you only have two squaddies with carbines or pipeguns, you not only make Take Command more valuable in comparison to taking a shot, you're also saving supply points which you can use to make the target squad even better.Menace isn't just about maximizing value per action point, but also about maximizing value per supply point. And while Take Command is a questionable choice in the former case, in the latter case Support Pike can do some heavy lifting by being a cheap squad which directly increases the efficacy of expensive squads, effectively acting as a multiplier to their value per supply point. On the flipside, trying to make a character support a squad that's less valuable than their own squad is just retarded, because then you're paying a price in both value per action point and value per supply point.
>>2461673For me Pike is "weapons squad" guy. He sits with the heaviest MG or other weapon I can give him, at the most central point of the squad to either suppress, kill vehicles, and give AP boosts. I can't see him any other way.
>>2461674Well yeah that's exactly why Take Command is bad value for you. Doesn't mean it can't be good on a different build though.
>>2461676It has it's moments especially in the early game when I have better SLs for the "killing" itself. I wouldn't call it a rare situation where I'd rather have an extra shot from someone like Tech than another MMG barrage. But then I'm not a great player and don't think too deep on the strategy itself or play on the harder modes so my opinions are less valid on what's optimal.
>>2461369I want to see what your gameplay looks like
>>2461676I am a different person. Take Command is occasional value on my riffleman Pike who may sometimes contribute more to the battle asking some other guy to shoot thrice instead of just shooting by himself, but as the campaign goes on this ALWAYS becomes a rarer occurrence as the quality of squad weapons (and total supply points) goes up.And there's no Pike build without Taking Command because it is his literal first skill that defines him. If Taking Command isn't desired then another character with a better innate would be preferable. Making this skill cost 20 AP would not harm anyone else and would not harm any build for Pike, it just makes it more universally useful instead of a situationally dead skill.
>>2461700I could see this argument working for making it a 40AP skill, but at 20AP it just becomes an straight-up AP printer. It removes all choice whether to use it or not, because it'll push you to unconditionally use it every single turn.
>>2461701Well yes you try to use it as often as possible, that goes for all skills. It is what the player loses for using a skill every turn that counters the utility it gives. At his base AP he needs to stand still to do it which can negatively impact mobile missions if you don't give it up sometimes (but conversely be always useful for static defensive missions). There's the possibility of putting a cooldown timer so its only every other turn. Some skills already soft function like this such as Achilleas' walker dash and the off balance debuff. The range could be tweaked since its currently built with the relatively prohibitive 60 AP cost in mind. If we try to split the difference on AP costs, say to 30 AP instead of 20 or 40, then that just means Pike just unlocks his full potential later on rather than earlier. There are again yet more soft considerations such as the enemy AI behavior. Taking all of the above into consideration, a hypothetical Pike with reduced AP cost for T-C but also reduced range and a turn cooldown might mean he has to run around like a headless chicken to both cover his assigned flank and use T-C on some other squad just out of range. That naturally adds a soft AP tax to reign in its power, and so the question of what's a good AP cost for it has to consider this. I do simply argue that 60 AP is way too much right now though.
>>2461704>At his base AP he needs to stand still to do it which can negatively impact mobile missions if you don't give it up sometimesThat's the point. There's a tradeoff for using it. That goes for all active skills, just like you trade off being able to shoot if you want to move further. Making it so it gives you 20 free AP per turn, no matter what, with no conditionals, would be broken as fuck. No other skill in the game gives AP for free without any conditions.
It's amazing how nearly every comment is someone just complaining they don't get whatever they want for free. The ideas of trade offs, or opportunity costs, or having to exchange A to get B is anathema to them. It's just>why isn't this talent broken so I can use it literally every chance I get?>why doesn't the enemy just walk into my guns and die for free?>why can't I bring every piece of equipment and every SL to every mission>why do I have to chose between this or thatetc etc. Fucking children I swear.
>>2461724>why isn't this talent broken so I can use it literally every chance I get?laughs in Darby>why doesn't the enemy just walk into my guns and die for free?laughs in patch... err, #6?>why do I have to chose between this or thatThe child follows what they have been told is right. Sometimes some items and abilities are "aight I'm just going to CHOOSE to never use this".
>>2461736You type like a faggot and don't even know what your point is
>>2461724That's been all the feedback they've been getting. Why do you think they removed promotion costs? Not balanced them, not tweaked them, just outright broke the balance of the game by removing the only balancing factor to just taking every skill you can afford. Because these casual violently hated the idea of upgrades having a long-term cost associated with them, so they whined until the devs removed the entire system.
>>2461771I shudder to think what would happen if they were making battle brothers how, with this same fanbase and mentality>why does fatigue exist>its not fair that brigands have ranged weapons and won't just rush into melee>why can orc warriors move me but I can't move them>goblin shamans can root me? >>2462104>everyone is the same person You really enjoy being wrong don't you?
>>2461771Bad example because promotion tax was genuinely a garbage mechanic. There was no reason to fully promote anyone ever and therefore no progression other than looting. That's bad design. It's the other balance changes that are baffling. Why make battles trivial by making supplies cheaper overall? Why add an authority tax that punishes experimentimg? Why persist in having OCIs stackable when everyone, even casuals, keeps telling them it's awful? Until AI logistics is stackable there is no reason to talk about any sort of balance at all.
>>2462629>There was no reason to fully promote anyone ever and therefore no progression other than looting.I guess we found one of the scrublords who cried until they removed the promotion tax instead of learning how to actually use it. You're not only stupid, you're also flat out wrong.Promotion tax meant that there's a tradeoff to consider, i.e. the tacical value of a promotion vs the strategic value of its supply tax. It forced you to think about which promotions are worth it, and also made not promoting someone a viable option. It's just too bad "people" like you outright refuse to ever think about the choices they make in games, so you simply demand to remove the cost of making a choice. Without a promotion tax, fully promoting someone is the only viable option in the long term and there's nothing else to consider on that front, because choosing not to promote someone simply means you're deliberately handicapping yourself. The underlying issue is that you refuse to think as a promotion as anything else than an RPG level-up, so you demanded (successfully, because the devs are retarded) that it be treated as such instead of correcting your faulty logic.
>>2462730>It forced you to think about which promotions are worth itWhy is this a good thing? What value does this add to the game?
>>2462730You can write a paragraph of histrionics but you can't explain what was actually fun in keeping your squad leaders permanently half leveled. Keep crying about it lmao.
>>2462765>>2462784>retards surface to ask why trade offs and decision making should be part of a strategy gameholy fuck. You know what else ruins my power fantasy and brainless face rolling? Missing the enemy. Oh and action points. Also having any limitations whatsoever on what I can bring to a match. And why do I only have so many accessory slots? And range. Why do my rifles all have different ranges? And why do tanks not have further view range than the infantry like they would in real life? How come I have a fog of war when my ship should just let me see the whole battlefield? Come to think of it why don't I just bomb my enemies from orbit? Why have a game at all? Fucking dumbcunts I swear
>>2462798Once again, you're genuinely extremely unintelligent. Just go back to samefagging, it's less embarrassing.
>>2462798>why trade offs and decision making should be part of a strategy gameThis is known as what squad leaders you bring and equipment you give them. Not deciding whether they should remain gimped or not for the remainder of the operation. There is nothing substantial gained nor thought required with this dilemma presented to the player. Incidentally the same thing can be said of ammo pouches for higher player-vs-enemy supply difference game, it just becomes an inventory slot tax until "enough" supply points are achieved to deploy a lot of squads.
>>2462807>>2462809Good job proving the original guy's point, you infants. Next time, Stick with Fortnite.
>>2462807>same tired post yet again You can stop embarrassing yourself any time>>2462809There's even less of a dilemma now. It's not>should I upgrade a perk or bring a weapon or somethingIt's just>upgrade every time you canThe game has become more simple to benefit those of you who bitched endlessly. And sure, I'll agree that it wasn't the best balanced or most fun system as it had existed, but it could have been iterated on or made into something more engaging. Instead it was just done away with entirely, which is what the entire original point was. Not that every system was perfect, but that instead of fixing systems they just do away with them as soon as they reach a critical mass of whiny cunts.
The game is inherently built around increasing the power level *efficiency* of the player alongside having more supply points over time. That is why OCIs exist. Those don't cost any points whatsoever yet you have free access to their benefits once you pay their buy-in cost. The change of SL promotions to being costless is merely aligning that subsystem more towards this core design, away from being supply cost items which are now the realm of equipment only. This is a game in development with a cliffhanger cutoff point that is only a third of the way in, that is, we're still only playing the early game even if it seems like the Impetus is fully equipped by the end of it. Properly balancing the exact difficulty curve and all relevant elements is a concern for which the deadline is way off in the far future.
Which is why it's funny that you guys are constantly bitching about every little thing and acting as if the game is out to get you. Especially when, if the game is 1/3rd done, it's very likely you would have still maxed our everyone's promotions by the end of it regardless. Now you're doing it in the early game and have nothing to work towards as far as promotions go.

Now that I've gotten used to playing with the "intended" Griffin miniguns again thanks to the recent patch, I have to wonder why they think this is okay. Seriously, 15 rounds for 40 AP out of a rotary gun? The M6 fires 10 shots per use. What kind of sick joke is this? Any vehicle or tripod using an M6 just sits there slowly chugging away for about 3 to 4 times the amount of real time compared to the miniguns, and will generally deal with more types of targets better especially armor. The "mistake" in the previous patch made the things (just the twin linked setup) both practical and also FELT correct with parity in how long they fired for.Tarded Horse please.
>>2463820>GFL2No loli SLs YAWWWWWWWWWWN
>>2464406Yeah I'm actually astonished to find out that wasn't the intended gameplay for them. They felt balanced. Even at twice the shots, they still did less comparable damage than an M6 at a shorter range, compensated by the fact it could cover multiple tiles. Now it's just an inferior weapon, and costs more to boot
>>2464420Don't forget there's also the wide strafe attack that covers 4 tiles with a pretty lengthy shoot time. That also costs 1 ammo. We can sort of excuse this abstraction as semi-auto fire on some infantry weapons also have this magic ammo consumption that is equal to firing it in bursts, but it is just the most exaggerated with the miniguns.
Laser rifle is bad and you should feel bad for using it and be punished for telling others to use it. 8x2 damage @ 8 tiles is an insult to the corps, it doesn't even have the decency to offer something like +30 accuracy for your troubles.
>>2464868It has a stupid amount of penetration. Give it to Sachin and watch as he deletes heavy infantry and vehicles, and suppresses anything he doesn't kill.
>>2464909Or I can give anyone any assortment of ballistic rifles of tier 3 and above with AP ammo, and they will always accomplish more without ever having to deal with the heat. It also won't work as well as suppressed rifles for concealed Darby dealing with all the heavies by herself. For some reason I have this berenstein moment with the laser rifle and remember it having 7 range instead of 8, but checking the wiki and the changelog apparently says otherwise so at least it doesn't suck on that.
>>2464938> a tier 3 rifle with an ammo accessory is stronger than a tier 2 one without Whoa
salvage teams is banger vs pirates since the transport vehicles count too
>>2464868It's guaranteed to deal HP damage from the get go to all infantry, almost immediately chews through light vehicles and mechs and can disable medium mechs in a lucky burst. You use it vs RA in the same way you use shotguns vs Menace. And naturally, you don't give it to everyone, you just give it to the designated heavy infantry killer. Yaz makes great use of it because killing with his bonus to morale damage pretty much instantly morale breaks RA. Jean is also great with it because she can just run around and farm all the expensive shit with ease. Laser rifles sell for 150, heavy infantry RPGs sell for 120. She can grab several of these a mission.
>>2464938there are plenty of cases where the laser rifle is better than an MRS with any ammo accessory but there are cases where even the arc is better than them because they have less base armor damage
I'm just going to MOD the laser rifles to shoot 3 times and give +20 accuracy (and fire faster so the animation doesn't last forever). I vill make myself happy.
