How is Solium Infernum? You never hear anyone talk about it when 4X games are discussed.
Far too cerebral for the map painters of this board.
>>2448382Pretty dead as far as I know, with AI that is not great. Has appeal of something like dominions where you can play async with some people. Pretty RNG heavy and frustrating to play because you can get really fucked up by luck, or just everyone deciding to dogpile you. Strategies aren't created equal, takes a while to figure out what works really well and what doesn't. Snowbally near the end, with little hope of clawing back from getting beaten down. Despite all the negativity in the last sentences, it's still a pretty unique game that's worth a try.
>>2448382i remember trying to get into early access and dev poll was asking me about non-binary shit so noped the fuck out lol
>>2448382cards
>>2448382It’s a card game, which is automatically cancer. The original is also better.
>>2448382It's an interesting game. I started with the original (released 2009) this year, and play both the original and 2024 remake. They differ in certain gameplay aspects, with certain things left out (like avatar customization) or made worse (praetor duels) in the remake but there is a few additions I like too.>>2448434>Pretty RNG heavyThe combat itself is very deterministic, there is no randomness to it. The selection of items for sale is randomized but open and equally accessible to all players. You could make an argument that ritual success rate is heavily skewed towards resistance but overall I don't get your complain about randomness. >just everyone deciding to dogpile youBalance of power, duh. In other news, you can communicate with people via diplomacy. If you prefer not to engage with anyone else verbally, that's on you.>Snowbally near the end, with little hope of clawing back from getting beaten down.Kinda yes and no. There is a lot of factors from the resources available, tactical situation etc. I won one of the my games effectively in the last few turns when everyone else dropped out/got eliminated by the player who excommunicated himself and went on a massacring spree. Until that point I was the weakest, struggled a lot, and apparently I was paid no attention. Right then I bought the Gorgon (one of the titan units). Since he was second in turn order after me every single turn (being excommunicated, he can't assume regency and the right of the turn priority), he had no way to act before my 3-movement titan, and I went straight for his stronghold. He couldn't resupply his forces (again, he had no access to the bazaar due to excommunication), and apparently didn't expect much from me given how shit I was over the course of the game until that point.>>2448482>It’s a card gameKinda yes and no. It's not at all like MtG. The original developer's first game, Armageddon Empires, is actually much closer to traditional card games.
>>2448382I have no idea but it blended with Immortal Realms: Vampire Wars for me.
>>2448491Looks interesting. But the credit is due when it's due - Vic Davis did it first way back in 2009.
>>2448382I wish it was supported with a proper expansion. They just released one piece of DLC.
>>2448777They're finishing the free Pinnacle to the Pit update. It's currently in open beta test.
