JOHAN'D
>>2449255>increasing your control over provinces allows you to tax more of the wealth of those provinces>randomly building shit and upgrading RGOs where you dont have control just increases the wealth that your estates make and you cant efficiently tax, meaning your costs of court increase without commensurate increase in tax revenue
Haven't played since launch week and my conclusion was that it wasn't a game, or even a simulator. It was just a fucking program. An executable.

>>2449255What I learned from EU5 is that you can give players literally everything they ever fucking wanted and they will still complain. For a decade I listened to uncs on /gsg/ seethe about how EU4 was too much of a casual mana map painter and that paradox needed to make the game harder and more like Vicky to bring back the Trve fans. Then they did that and its still nothing but endless seething.
>>2453905Personally I stopped giving a shit about what Paradox does since they went full Babylonian DLC whore more than a decade ago. I occasionally pirate their games, shitpost on /vst/, and move on

>>2453911>since they went full Babylonian DLC whore more than a decade agoThe worst part about the DLC train isn’t just the money, it’s that the DLC themselves bloat up and ruin the game on a long enough timeframe. Everyone that enjoyed playing EU games, especially mpfags just wanted the eu4 trade system that can flow in both directions, maybe an extra building or two, and some less mana abstraction without turning the game into an autistic economic calculation problem that needs to be studied at the end of every month tick.
>>2453387LOL>>2453905They released a fine game on release (unfinished tho, paradox shit) and they went consistently downhill every single patch changing shit that nobody asked, it was infuriating so I have no idea what could you possibly be talking about.

>>2454321mp fags complain about balance in a real world map painter. There were several patches for EU4, where mp autism made sp more unfun.>>2454071kinda this. EU5 should have been an evolution, iteration not a complete overhaul.

Easily enough shit to do for 1k hours of gameplay
>>2449255The game has one big issue and some smaller issues. The big issue is, that expanding isn't fun and the gameplay loop sucks cock. It makes no sense that a huge empire is capped by how many chuds they have in their cabinet and can't core stuff any quicker than small countries. Coring should be done with a slider and costs (cash + manpower) should be directly connected to how much stuff you are integrating at once. Big, rich empires like the Turks should be able to core Egypt in like 10-20 years. Also, war score cost is too high. The only real limiter on how much you can take should be some overextension penalty and coring costs. If you can actually occupy France fully in one war, as well as being able to cope with massive overextension, coring and antagonism, you should be able to annex France in one war. Huge conquest is satisfying and a fun end game goal. Instead, you fight a world war for half of Lombardy, which is fucking stupid and not fun at all.Smaller issues include a lack of flavor and individuality for countries, autistic, pseudo deep fake economy on the level of artisans making tanks out of fruit, where you have to be an islamic merchant republic to make any money with trade at all and buildings are useless except if you stack production efficiency to the point where you can produce a fuckload of goods nobody even consumes for a profit. Those wouldn't really be an issue if conquest was fun and if you could LARP properly, but you can't really therefore eu5 is currently shit if you don't have autism. My friends who play eu4 say eu5 lacks the spark that eu4 has, and I think that spark is a fun, arcadey gameplay loop like eu4 has
>>2454833>If you can actually occupy France fully in one war, as well as being able to cope with massive overextension, coring and antagonism, you should be able to annex France in one war.Not even ww2 germany managed that but you're expecting 14th centyry monarchies to do it
>>2453905The game is nothing like Victoria 2. The way markets, buildings, estate and government funding interact with each other is disjointed and almost arbitrary. It feels like Johan just copy pasted the code from Eu4 into Imperator Rome and scaled the pops up.
>>2455030No I don't, but I'm saying war score cost shouldn't be the limiter. I'm saying you should collapse from revolts, colaitions and going bankrupt from coring costs.>>If you can actually occupy France fully in one war, as well as being able to cope with massive overextension, coring and antagonism
>>2453905Why do so many talk about eu5 like johan did it on his spare time out of the goodness of his heart, for so much he loved paradox kind, instead of being a lead developer making a product competing both with products of other companies and older products of his own.
>>2453905I think the game would be a lot better if the start date was still 1444. Not enough happens in the 100 or so years prior to that and all the major events that did happen which setup all the fun from the 1444 start never follows that plan, so all the setup that makes the 1444-1821 timeline enjoyable never happens. So the game just goes nowhere forever. All it seems to do is make France or England a massive blob.
>>2455732True. 1337 start date shifts colonization firmly into mid-late game and adds the need for ck3 style levies (I fucking HATE levies). Also removes things that are necissary for the early modern paradigm to come about, like the Timurid Empire, Burgundy and its eventual inheritance, the rise of the Ottomans and the Polish Lithuanian commonwealth
>>2455793I think the people at tinto decided that the change from using levies to standing armies was a fundamental part of europe and never had second thoughts about how to actually implement it.
>>2455732>Not enough happens in the 100 or so years prior to that and all the major eventsNo it does. 100 years war, plague that wipes out a large part of Europe, rise of Ming, rise of Ottomans, disintegration of Golden horde. I'd make a case more happens in the century before 1444 than does in the one after it. EU5 is just terrible at simulating those things.
>>2455819100 years war was not relevant and the black death is a meme because it affects everyone around you aswell so it doesnt even matterottomans were still "rising" in 1444 and golden horde not done either
>>2455819>EU5 is just terrible at simulating those things.Thats my point, the years between 1337 and 1444 had some major moments but it never plays out that way so the 1444 start is all scrambled and messed up, so the things that people like generally dont come close to happening. I haven't played for 2000 hours or anything, but in the ~200 i got i never once saw the Ottomans take out the Mamluks, or Russia ever really become anything like the AI reliably could in 4, I think i once saw the PLC form at a strong state. I never paid attention to it myself but have anons ever seen Ming form on time? The tldr is the 107 years between the two start dates had too many things that needed to happen in a specific order to create the fun sandbox during 4's timeline.
>>2454824>I didn't want the game to run like shit.>wallet issueIf my rig can run RDR2 at 4k/60fps I see no reason why it should not run a fucking spreadsheet with fancy windowdressing. So fuck you again.
>>2454793Pausing the game is good. Gives you time to focus on the immersion.
>>2456300Johan already built that into the game by making it crash frequently.
Does anyone here also hate the cabinet mechanics? It's literally mana and doesn't make sense at all. Why shouldn't I be able to have a 20 people cabinet as some HRE chud in 1337? Why is there a magical barrier that prevents me from hiring more dudes to work for me? And why exactly does my entire administration and everything it does depend on these motherfuckers? Why do I need to tell Dr. Wilhelm Bratwurst von Cuntenstein to integrate Frankfurt for me? Wouldn't that be done by a nameless mass of bureaucrats, bailiffs and clergymen that would only really be capped by how much money you can spare and how well your governing institutions are equipped?TL:DR cabinet = mana and it's not even fun or makes sense
>>2457019Easier to make an effective attention feedback loop if you make the consequences of decisions instant like with wizards..
ill never understand why autists want this level of depth to a point where you need a shitty ai to automate large portions of the game. Ruins the whole part of the experience where you find efficient builds and learn what to make. You're just sitting there watching an AI crunch numbers that have no meaning whats the point
>>2457492somehow there are so many players who want EU to be something it never was. I blame all the new players coming in during EU4's lifespan, thinking grand strategy is some uber genre encompassing all and every detail of guiding a nation, while most of the games are whacky map painters. When you go too far into simulation territory, it becomes less of a game. And simulating is better done by computers, so pdx made a game that is in parts better played by itself than by its players.
>>2457019I think they would be more fun if coring wasn't tied to it. They give you all these options to do with them but then make you lock the members down for years just to core a county.
>>2457492The stellar success of KCD1 and a few similar games psyoped a lot of people into thinking they wanted a realistic history game and not, you know, novel mechanics and a simple linear story for once.
>>2453905Honestly? We didn't know how good we had it
The problem isn't that EU5 is a bad game or anything. It's just a bad EU game. They should have just called it Meiou & Taxes 2 and released it as a spin-off, cause that's what it is. I like it, but for different reasons than EU4.
>>2459604EU4 is the odd one out, EU5 is much closer to EU3.
>>2456245Seethe, poor.
>>2463338Shh, don't spoil it for him.
>>2453905EU5 has a complicated simulationist economy like Vicky but it fails to replicate what makes Vicky 2 (with HPM of course) so comfy>short time period packed with interesting historical events>simulation which can capture the sense of rapid progess and interaction between technology, economy and politics and military development>aesthetic and easily usable (once you are used to it) UI>different game mechanics and priorities for Europe vs Americas vs Uncivs>enough railroading to make historically plausible outcomes>great power system that leads to interesting wars and challenges for the playerEU5 fails at every single point
>>2464203EUV is trying really hard to be Victoria most of the time. The problem is that it starts in the FUCKING MEDIEVAL AGES.
Man EU5 feels so god damn sterile and i really despise the constant bipolar ass balancing.A byzantine bureaucracy load of unreleated modifiers per dice roll and all they can think of is "x now stackwipes, x is now worthless."Wars, piracy, diplomacy, trade, economy, statecraft - it all feels so arbitrary/unimpactful.Was the inspiration for this to patch out as much gameplay as possible from EU4 and Imperator and replace it all with sliders and backend calculations ? A million mechanics and nothing feels impactful.
>>2453905Vic2 is funEU5 isn't
>>2463338EU3 is a farcry from a simulation. Instead of mana you had regenerating agentd, which mechanically is mana with a different name. Also sliderkino. EU3 was more sandboxy than any other EU, but that doesn't make it a sim.>>2463746you didn't play EU3
>>2453905EU4 + reworked dev system + population mechanic tied to manpower + more sensible military access and attrition meaning you can't go 50 provinces deep without holding the ones behind you. That was literally all that was needed, instead we got cookie clicker where it's just perma number goes up and there's no difference between the countries because you don't have simple easy to understand national ideas. It reminds me a lot of when people didn't like the MoP-SL talent trees in wow and so they wanted to go back to proper talent trees, only to end up doing the exact same thing; copy from wowhead or favourite streamer and just use a cookie cutter build. That's mana in the EU games, people say they don't want it and they want it different only for them to be faced with a system they are going to optimize anyway and it's essentially the same thing just devolved a little bit.
>>2465252It's impressive how they just can't seem to make a good game out ouf their ambition™ to produce a simulation. It's not the first time this approach failed miserably. They need to get real and accept that Vic 2 was an outlier, despite its further need for polish.
>>2453905As one of those "uncs" seething on /gsg/ I am actually quite happy with EU5. There's just a laundry list of minor problems that make the game really annoying to play at times, but honestly they're moving in the right direction. What it does desperately need for an EU game is:>proper colonization/exploration mechanics that feel satisfying and rewardingCaribbean sugar islands were obscene profitable for countries that managed to hold onto them. Spain got ridiculously wealthy from American gold and silver (before they bricked their own economy with inflation from it). The Dutch and Portuguese made huge profits from accessing the trade in India and China. But none of these are really effective ways to play the game. Sure you can turn some profit but the manufacturing side of things scales so fast that it ends up being a rounding error. >1444/1453/1492 start dateIt's too hard to railroad AI countries into their historical expansion paths without this so you rarely see any of the classic early modern powers that don't exist in 1337. Also, the idea of playing as a colonial-focused power like England or is very unappetizing because you have to spend the first 100 years jerking off, or go for crazy blobbing expansion routes in Europe.
>>2465309>England orEngland or Portugal*
>>2453905It took EU5 to make us realise how good we had it with EU4. Most players including myself have returned to EU4 and haven't looked back.
Haven't played since 1.2 Gib some fun countries to play as. I played Byzantium before the byzantium update, so preferably something else.
>>2465423Malacca was fun in EU4, try it in EU5 and tell me how it goes
>>2465424Could try that. I was thinking about that rough region anyway, considering something that could make the Khmer empire. But Malacca could be fun, too.
>>2465433It's a pretty fun region for naval shenanigans. Once you finally unite most of the islands under your banner you become pretty defendable against European powers. With a big enough navy you can just sink or drive them off.
>>2465309>they're moving in the right directionkinda not enough, if you pay 60 bux + dlc tax, if you ask me.Paraslop isn't a small indie dev anymore. We can demand certain standards from them and they should have some self-respect as creators and an ambition to deliver a polished, fully working product
>>2465423Define "fun" in eu5 for you, swimming through events and making use of whatever bonuses a tag may have? Otherwise you know they are all the same.
>>2465290Vicky's simulation is fun because the game loop (number go up) and historical reality (industrial revolution) are aligned. It works so well and influences so many of the other mechanics that the janky aspects are easily overlookedEU5's time period doesn't have an easy teleological narrative, at least not one that applies to every nation at every period from 1337 to the 19th century. You could definitely create something like Vicky's economy and pops by focusing on trade and exploration as the driver for other developments (this is what EU should be, thematically) but the devs didn't have a focused vision like that
If i dont have any interest in playing Byz there's no reason to get the phoenix DLC right. I dont know if that DLC adds anything for other countries i care about.
>>2453905The reason why listening to the fans was a bad idea many times, majority just exist to kvetch, and more than half don't even play the game lol
>>2456245small indie company pls understand
>>2465707>and more than half don't even play the game lolthat's a problem for johan.
What I'd like to do:>Start: Start as European country>ASAP: Adopt some subsaharan african culture as my primary culture and convert to some african paganism>End goal: turn as much of europe into africa culturally and convert it to african paganismI think the best starting country is going to be Portugal, possible Holland - if you think there's another option, tell me.What I don't know 'how' to achieve is: How do I get the conditions so I can adopt subsaharan african culture as primary (Either majority of population being that OR the subsaharan culture holding most wealth). Any ideas on that? Can you move the subsaharan african pops from overseas into mainland? Or maybe I should wipe out my european population through diseases and war?The problem is that there are lot of small african cultures.First I want to achieve the culture+faith change, then I can start thinking about the end goal.See pic related I have chunk of Africa, 25% of my population is non-european, however any singular african country is at most 5% of my population.

>>24539051) They made the game too autistic. The reason Victoria 2's economy is more fun is because it's deep enough to where your actions in the game can affect the amount of goods on the world market, which is engaging and fun. But it's not so deep that it's got different types of fucking paper for no reason.2) Nothing ever happens, which is the actual reason Victoria 3 also flopped. Too much focus was put into making the game as autistic as possible and not enough focus was put into making things happen. Contrast this with the mechanically shallow game HOI4 in which stuff happens all the time, or even Victoria 2 in which stuff happens even when campaigns aren't railroaded by mods.

>>2464203EU5 is not simulationist. It's an incremental game just like EU4 was. In Vicky 2 for example money is useful but there's a limit to what you can do with it. I swear to fucking god i dont know half the rules for who can join a war. France declares on me, they have no allies so its just them. But then Tunis and Morocco joining in makes a little sense since i rivaled them (But they dont rival me back, so i dont know why they're able to join). Naples joined cause they were rivaled to France and intervened. However i dont know how the Otto's got in since they were not rivaled to me or Naples, nor were either of us rivaling him. And i dont know how the fuck Kiev got involved. They're not in anyway diplomatically involved in anybody in this war on my side or not. And what makes it worse is there was never a popup when they joined so it can at least tell me why, like when Naples joined or when the emperor declares on you and drags in half of the HRE, even the ones hes not allied with. But with all 4 of those countries they just joined with zero explanation why. Make it make sense.

Let's be honest and admit that EU5's only getting this much hate because it has no flavor. Not gonna pretend it doesn't have issues but Paradox fans wouldn't bring them up if EU5 had mission trees or unique gov mechanics.
>>2491149Agree, I love the bugs and love that devs can't decide what the fuck they want to do with their game and I love that I paid full price for an unfinished game and I love that absolutely ass of a DLC. Uma delicia/10
>>2491149“Lack of flavor” is only a complaint for low IQ people who can’t roleplay or use their imagination without the game holding their hand. Similar to how people used to be able to make up their own challenges and gimmick runs in games without having a fixed “achievement” for it. Mission trees were an absolute mistake and EU4 was made worse for their addition. The problem with EU5 imo is that the devs don’t have a cohesive vision of the game and are just flailing around and throwing shit at the wall. It was made by autistic modders that fundamentally forgot that the EU series is supposed to be A Game with certain levels of abstraction. It is not supposed to be “lol Victoria but in the 1300s” and such systems are fundamentally anachronistic and inappropriate.
>>2491179You can't use the "roleplay" cop-out with EU5.Crusader Kings (2 and 3) are examples of games that can reasonably have lack of flavor, because their roleplay potential makes up for it. Sure, you can play "optimally" and marry your heir to someone with massive claims, blob all over the world, and do a WC, but that isn't the point of the game. It's far more fun to play a lecherous old pervert, or a devoted family patriarch, or a scheming vassal, or all three at once, the game is literally what you make of it.EU5 on the other hand has one designated playstyle, you mass urbanize, you build granary towns, you spam granaries, you make vassals, you annex the vassals, you blob. You quit in 1500 because you became the biggest nigger on the block and you're just mowing down the enemy's peasant stacks with your heavy cav regulars.EU5 DOES have the potential to be a roleplaying game, but in order to do that they'd need to:>remove the entire liberty desire and diplomatic capacity system so you could paint the map with puppets with impunity>flesh out characters so they actually feel alive>sort out the levy/regular dichotomy, especially with regards to heavy cav, so there isn't a "build to instantly win every war" unit>get rid of the retarded passive assimilation/conversion, so your realms are actually supposed to be diverse instead of instantly assimilating to a mono-culture
>>2491149i hate eu5 not because it has no flavor, but because of its anti-blob mechanics
>>2491189>flesh out characters so they actually feel aliveOr just let them actually be alive, male heirs lives matter.
>>2491192I like the anti-blob mechanics, but their enforcement is extremely arbitrary. For example, if I'm playing as Britain I can build a naval governor in, say, Naples (because it's the same continent) and blob over literally the entirety of Italy. (ahistorical)But I can't build one in Dhaka and blob all over Bengal (historical)Naval governors essentially now only have use to allow ahistorical and retarded blobbing, while curtailing the ability to blob realistically. It'd be cool if Portugal could have a naval governor in Brazil, the Netherlands could have a naval governor in Indonesia, and Spain could have a naval governor in Mexico, instead their only use is for retarded ahistorical blobbing with no historical precedent on the same continent.Whoever designed the mechanic has no regard for the time period, enjoyment of the game, or history in general.EU5 is the story of a brilliant game ruined by terrible design choices.
>>2491193I think that's due to how few events they have in the game. They use the same MTTH pulse system as all other paradox games, where a random event will fire every so often. If you have 100 events, you only have a 1:100 chance of the hunting accident event firing. If you have 10 events you have a 1:10 chance of it firing.Same problem with colonization events, getting the mutt's mutters matter twice a year, every year.
>>2491199for me it's trying to play as muscovygranted, i'm still a newb and don't know the optimal way of growing into russia without either lagging behind or destroying my economy with blobbing to "keep up"not even sure if vassal swarm is what i should be doing
>>2491264They nerfed vassals hard so the sweaty metagamers couldn't abuse them, fucking them up for real use cases such as yours. Currently for Russia you're best using a mix of vassals and direct blobbing and integrating, because while vassals are still shit Russia is just so huge that you can't feasibly integrate it all yourself.Next version they're supposed to be undoing some of the nerf they did, and making vassals' base annex cost lower, so a Russia run then should be more fun. You'll also be able to put sky high export tariffs on fur, which should be pretty fun, provided they don't fuck up the economy.
>>2491270ah, nice to heari suppose i could jump back and forth between 1.4 and 1.3.11 if the removal of hourly ticks bugs me enough
guys, i do i make this entire region a single colonial nation? i can only create colonial nations the size of provinces
why are there no wiki nerds for this game? I know it's not as popular as eu4 or ck3 or whatever but there's surely people who would do it.But you look for anything specific on the wiki and it's just not there. How the fuck do levies work? Why do I have mailed knights but no noble cavalry? There's nothing anywhere in game or online that tells me what decides this. I ASSUME it's a european or catholic vs other cultures thing but I have NO way of knowing. My unique age 1 unit isn't even in the recruitment page and I have no idea why. I'm hoping it's a mod problem and I'll try to mess around with it to see why but who fucking knows. You try to find any of this specific information and you're more likely to find fucking pre-launch leaks from early access people than anything recent.
>>2491316figured it out.Despite the Duchy of Athens getting an estate that allows them to recruit order units (crusader sergeants and such) they can't actually do this because they can't construct Order Strongholds which are required to recruit these because they're not a Military Order. At least you can fix this by conquering Rhodes which does have one.You also can't recruit Catalan Crossbowmen without having the primary culture of location being accepted or primary, meaning you have to make Greek accepted to recruit Catalan Crossbowmen from them. Makes sense, of course.
>>2491325estate privilege*
>>2491311Release as colonial nation.Go to subject interactions.Choose "cede province" for every province you want to give them, yes, you have to do it dozens of times.
>>2491316Apparently the wiki is ran directly by Paradox, and they're real nazis about what people can and can't add. After a few autists attempted to do their job for them, put stuff on the wiki, and it subsequently got deleted they simply stopped trying. It was the "automatically generated" shit they were trying to edit, which is supposed to scoop stuff directly from the game files to fill in the wiki, it fucked up, so some kind people fixed it FOR FREE and got banned for it.No wonder no one uses that shithole wiki.Sadly this leaves us in the position where if you want to know something you either:1. Just know it.2. Crawl through dozens of different discords and hope one of the troons there actually plays the game instead of just uses it to groom people.3. Go fuck yourself and play a better game.
>>2491345oh, seriously? I saw one of those sections on the levies page trying to figure this out and wondered what the point was because it's been a year and it's not auto-generating shit. That's a shame.
>>2491345WOuldn't the same also apply to CK3 and EU4 though? Granted CK3 is pretty retardproof so you don't really need a wiki to learn 99% of what that game has to offer. I never found the EU4 wiki particularly helpful either, honestly reading reddit sperg posts about game mechanics was always more helpful unironically.Regardless, I understand your frustration. I just wish I could find it in me to enjoy EU4, but honestly it's just not for me. CK3 I have put too much time into it to realize its still a unbalanced blobfest with shockingly little depth to it. Even in the role playing elements, which is what everyone in /ckg/ claims the simulation and strategy died for.I guess there's Vicky 3 though, I own it, but I haven't gotten around to it yet. People say its improved quite a lot since it's terrible launch. For what it's worth, I do enjoy the slower paced econ focuses gameplay of EU5, so I probably should give Vic a chance at some point.
>>2491362I dislike how much of an ahistorical sandbox Victoria 3 is.In (modded) Victoria 2 the game follows a nice little narrative, where the variables are recognizable and distinct. Oh cool, Russia won the Crimean war and made the Balkans into puppets. Wow, the CSA won the civil war, don't see that too often. Austria is getting KuK'd hard by Germany and Italy! In Victoria 3 there is no railroading into events, Africa doesn't get colonized properly, Japan doesn't take Korea, the Balkans will never be vied over by Russia and Austria, it's just a complete blank slate sandbox. What I will say though is that the economic game is genuinely far more compelling than Victoria 2. Even if it is just line go up.I don't know if I'm just a jaded oldfag or I just happened to get into grand strategy at the perfect time. Everything before I did seems like outdated sandbox trash (blobhemia in eu3), everything after I did (HoI4, Victoria 3, CK3) seems like arcade nonsense for zoomers wanting a dopamine fix through pressing green buttons, but when I started playing GSG (Victoria 2, HoI3, CK2) everything seemed right, games simulated history well and had complex mechanics (for the time) which was as good as CPUs back then could produce. There were no skill trees, focus trees, filling point bars, or retarded political shitflinging.Community was better, mods were better, development was better, experience was better.I have to go now, it's time for my back pain medication.
>>2449255To salvage this wreck of a game set minimum revolting pops limits per province (based on size, soldiers and total pop formula) so 10 pops can flip out revolt start ahistorical world warsDont cap control increasing buildings, set an estate satisfaction penalty to control maxxing. Governors feel very gamey like civ vi. Max control Paris and St Petersburg historically were revolt magnets, make it so by implementing local satisfaction penalties for high controlRevolts are by far the worse experience in this game, 2 angry chinamen in Samara in 1400 would not cause world war, neither would 10 protestants you expelled drag you into an independence war vs your euro neighbor. Restore the option to ignore a call to arms like current day europeans do to trumpThe usual economy and trade issues can be fixed by paradoxtards like in victoria, war and revolts however seem too much for them to handle
>>2491371Victoria 3 needs to be ahistorical because the devs are hardcore commies and they need for things to be fantastical for marxism to work. Simple as.
>>2491371I actually don’t mind the focus on keeping things away from historical railroading (there NEEDS to be a civil war in 1860 or a world war in 1914). So as events/situations lead to some kind of conflict or event taking at some point, even if it is out of order or with differing parties. >line go upTo be fair, that’s been the modus operandi for economic theory in the past 100 years or so, especially after the Us dropped the gold standard and ESPECIALLY after the 2008 recession. Unless you mean to say that they fail to simulate downturns/crashes/depressions in which case it’s a pretty major flaw in the Econ simulation. Also, idk about you, but CK2 wasn’t this masterpiece of grand strategy as lot of people look back on it as. I know CK3 blows in a lot of ways, but just like with EU5, it gets tiring people looking back on the previous title with rose tinted glasses. CK2 got extremely ahistorical as well with its unstoppable Umayyad and Byzantine super blobs, and Religious Authority death spiraling for Catholics in the earlier start dates. It had certain triggers for historical stuff, but it wasn’t guaranteed to trigger, let along succeed (i.e rise of the fatimids).
>>2491581When I say "railroading" I more mean "structural mechanisms to ensure plausible outcomes".For example, an event firing on 1914.7.28 that triggers war between all the central powers and the entente is no bueno, but the inbuilt crisis and great war system that puts great powers in a diplomatic conflict against each other over some foolish thing in the balkans that can then become a great war if two or more great powers join on both sides is good "railroading", if you even want to term it that.Compared to Victoria 3 where great wars simply don't exist, it's pure sandbox, there is no railroading either hard or soft, that's bad game design and completely fails at the "strategy" aspect that GSG are supposed to be about.>Also, idk about you, but CK2 wasn’t this masterpiece of grand strategy as lot of people look back on it as.No, I'm referring to the thematics more than anything. See pic related for an example of what I mean. Sure, it wasn't peak fiction or anything, but you could immerse yourself in the world. It didn't have stupid fucking fart events and skill trees that took you out of the experience. There was no "whoops, you haven't unlocked the 'know thyself' advance so you don't get weird ghost powers letting you know exactly when you're going to die!"Also, as for ahistorical shit, I only ever played from 1066 or later, with absurd and magical shit events turned off, so the game was always fairly historical for me.
>>2476913Anyone (or any great power in europe, I forgot) can intervene in italian wars by clicking a button in situation tabSometimes it leads to you being gangbanged by everyone in europe, rarely to goated moments
>>2491713Imo, the ideal and default setting for a historical strategy game should be that, without player intervention, history unfolds exactly like real life. The only aberrations should be from the player’s actions and the downstream effects of them.
>>2491984I sort of agree, but equally with hard railroading like that the AI can't adapt to the players changes.Say for example you're playing Russia, you BTFO the Ottomans in the oriental crisis, that gets Britain and France mad at you. Then you annex Galicia-Lodmeria, that gets Austria and by extension Germany mad at you.So in this timeline it makes no sense for WW1 to happen as it did, so the event that fires it in 1914.7.28 would then be immersion breaking, despite being historical.I really think they cooked with the crisis and great war system in V2, it seems to work a lot more flawlessly and realistically than diplomatic plays in V3.

Farmers don’t even farm they’re just wheat-shaped fountains, producing the same trickle of grain every single day, year-round, like some kind of eternal bread sprinkler, and every kernel vanishes into the great planetary food depot. Railroads spring from the ground fully formed like mushrooms, never breaking down, never needing engineers, fuel, or repairs, just click "build railroad" and congratulations you’ve just created an everlasting ghost train network that will boost the productivity of the work-from-home factory workers without burning a single lump of coal. You can even run a steel industry in an inland state far from coal and iron mining province because the Sky Vending Machine™ can simply just beam the inputs straight to the factory doorstep. And then there’s the military where armies don’t need horses, fodder, or logistics trains, just 0.15 worth of small arms and 0.10 canned food and voilà , instant Napoleonic Lego Brigade ready to fight through Siberian winters indefinitely as long as the global fridge doesn’t run out of sardines and the HQ doesn't stop teleporting reinforcements to the Front lines through Quantum Entanglementin conclusion, memegame2 is less a 19th-century simulator and more a steampunk themepark where pops are quantum homunculi who require no shelter or sanitation, railways are perpetual-motion hyperspace conduits immune to entropy, grain fields behave like hydrogen fusion reactors, producing caloric output in perfect disregard for planetary axial tilt or seasonal variation, all glued together by the Cosmic Vending Machine™ that hurls all goods from the Sky to the consumers below without thermodynamic loss

>>2495501"pops" in memegame2 are not even real. they do not drink fresh water, they do not require temperature, they don't need shelters, they never even commute to work, they simply teleport from their metaphysical home-slot to their metaphysical factory-slot through astral projection. they don't own homes, because housing doesn’t exist. there are no buildings, no slums, no overcrowding, no sanitation crises, hell there isn't even any difference between rural and urban life because neither actually exists. everyone simply lives inside a single magic square called "province" and that square produces grain EXACTLY the same amount of food in winter as in summer, at night, during droughts, at the South Pole, and probably on the moon.farmers don’t till fields, miners don’t swing pickaxes, lumberjacks don't cut trees, they just stand there while the planet coughs up wheat, coal, iron and timber at a perfectly consistent rate per tick. there are no seasons, no droughts, no bad harvests, no holidays, no winter freezes, just an eternal conveyor belt of resources spewing out of the earth as if the entire world's soil is connected to a nuclear reactor.they don't age, they never retire, a pop of 45,000 people is basically just one collective blob with a single opinion and one shared wallet. and they also don’t have families, they just spawn fully grown adult males whenever a single magical float value labeled "Birthrate" flips into the positive (lmao)their religion and culture? also fake cosmetic effects. they don't determine institutions, taboos or intelligence and social disparitiesand finally migration? also comedy. 10,000 Hungarians can teleport to Argentina without buying a single ticket, drinking a drop of water or packing a coat and yet they don’t arrive poor, sick or isolated, no, they just pop into existence already employed, already housed (in the void), already speaking the local language and instantly integrated like plug-an- play USB humans
