This comes out next week. Will it be good, or will it be Stormgate 2? Apparently there was a demo for it recently - anyone play it? Have opinions on it?gimmick seems to be the fact that multiplayer matches feed into a Planetside2-esque galactic map
>>2451505>will it be Stormgate 2?All of the signs are already there. Yes.
>>2451541disappointing. few years back it seemed a lot of cool rts games were being announced and wishlisted them all, including:>stormgate>zerospace>tempest rising>d.o.r.f>dust front>immortal gates of pyreand others that I've since removed and forgotten. now they're finally coming out and they all seem meh or bad
>>2451685D.O.R.F. is different. It's not coming out.
>>2451891It only took 5 years of no gameplay, no demo for people to catch on.
>>2451505I hope that they will have looked at how the Stormgate release went and will have learned some lessons from that to try and avoid being Stormgate 2. I have some doubts about how well they'll achieve that though.I think they've tried a bit harder to make factions interesting and unique which is nice but all we've seen so far seems to revolve around the competitive multiplayer which is one of the main things that killed Stormgate imo. There's also a lot less hype around it than Stormgate which doesn't bode will either. I'd like it to succeed but it feels like there are a lot of different ways it could fail.
>>2451685immortal looked good.. now there is Liquidation that seems interesting
>>2451541It think zerospace looks like a better game tho.
>>2451505>will it be Stormgate 2?It already is, Stormgape are shilling it through their marketing channels...
>>2452606an endorsement from stormgate is almost worse than getting one from David Duke
I dunno. The store page doesn't seem to indicate any specific adherence to competitive PvP-slop but maybe the actual game will be focused on that. I'm curious about it at least.Like, the game seems to be an RTS with branching paths and more depth to battles and characters?
>>2451505>comes out next week>check steam page>Coming Soon To Early AccessFUCK YOU
>>2451685Sanctuary gets a public demo tomorrow, we'll se if it's going to be another dud or not.
1ish hour until early access. I will be watching some streams. I tried the demo and did not find it very enjoyable. I did like Stormgate, but I have not played more than 30 minutes of Starcraft 2 so it felt pretty fresh for me. Currently playing Zero-K singleplayer and its been pretty fun.
>>2451505look gay, american, starcraft and pozzedslop flop stormgate 2
So they are spending 13k on some tournament? This reminds me of stormgate
>>2453368Don't think they got it. Waiting for another RTS to come out.
well, after playing the EA I can say that in it's fetus stage it certainly is way better than shartgate ever wasthe game is FUCKING RAW but it actually is fun?
not even the usual suspects are shilling it
the game is already dead. 640 players as I type this.
>$50 for early accessdont think so
>>2451505>will it be Stormgate 2?Obviously. When will retarded RTS devs learn that literal reskins of classic games will always fail? The genre is dead because there is zero innovation. >Uhh what if we did Starcraft but slopis not an enticing offer to consumers
I didn't even knew it came out already, just stumbled over this thread. It looks ok, but I refuse to support EA games.>>2454103that's not the issue, but those are much smaller devs with less experience. They can't even make remake Starcraft 2.
The gameplay seems to be just a-moving huge waves of units huh
thanks to EA and middling sales the game will probably never be finishes or only half heatedly. It's hard to see any potential in this project.
>>2454440Not even different units, just multiple of the same one unit.
>>2454171>that's not the issueNTA but it literally is the issue. If I wanted to play starcraft 2, I would play starcraft 2. I don't need not-starcraft 2 to wear the skin of starcraft 2 and pretend to be starcraft 2.
>>2455167somehow this seems to be a non issue in other genre like fighting games or racing or most famously sport games.Games are always not different enough, until someone makes something different.>If you like Starcraft (2) the you probably wouldn't mind playing more of itis a more compelling argument than >a shot in the dark in a genre with questionable profitabilityThat's what the RTS genre has been the last 10 years, remakes, remasters and all the games that tried to make something different failed among those who tried to be the new SC2.Somehow nobody seems to complain about all those C&C clones, or TA clones or AoE4 being mostly just AoE2.The answer is always just whether they make a good game. The issue with making an SC2 clone is that it sets the bar pretty high and as a popular sequel, Blizzard had no issues maintaining a community for multiplayer. An SP game can always grow through words of mouth, but you will never get an MP game back to live through a dripfeed of users.
I do like the large units in the Galactic War. Game might have some legs if they manage to keep working on it.
>>2452606>Stormgape are shilling it >>2452611>an endorsement from stormgate is almost worse than getting one from David DukeMaybe that's Mortems plan. If Zerospace fails it makes Mortem look like less of (but still a colossal) failure.Think about it, when Mortem approaches investors it's easier to blame his failures on 'the market' if another game in the same niche failed during the same period. If Zerospace does well it proves Stormgates failure was the result of internal issues, not external ones.
They clearly spent too much time implementing gimmicky features versus just making game. Honestly the basis seems appealing to me, graphics are decent, it’s not the sc2/sg plastic look. Adding some kinda hero units has been obviously the right move since War3 came out, only nobody ever managed to get it right; maybe they will.>>2451685Dying Breed?
>$35.99 Early Access Game>$35.99 Early Access Game>$35.99 Early Access Game>$35.99 Early Access Game>$35.99 Early Access Game
>>2451505I like it a lot so far. It's been years since I started a new game and suddenly realised 8 hours have passed.
>>2456533You can pay 60 or 70 bucks for the privilege of beta testing a game, too, if you prefer.
>>2451685There is a good RTS that came out recently: godswornBut it spent its money on making a good game instead of paying youtubers so no one played it
>the sectors control mechanics are shit>the heroes are shit>the big units look extremely uncanny>clip into other units and turn unnaturally>game is riddled with bugsHonestly it has potential, but they have to fix a lot lot lot of things.
>New RTS game is out in EA check it out!>Checks it out>MOBAWC3 boomers getting into postions of power at studios developing RTS games were a disaster for the genre. These motherfuckers really can't think of anything else but remaking SC2 with WC3 mechanics tacked on, while completely missing the point of hero games having been raped into the ground by the MOBA genre and how what they make is just that with minion-micro
>>2459473These devs genuinely seem to be RTS autists, even if they're still mostly of Blizzdrone origin. How many games have you seen that take inspiration from Perimeter?
>>2459495What does this game have to do with Perimeter? There's no terraforming mechanic that I have experienced, and individual unit upgrades are NOT related to transmuting in any way. It's just SC2 with most worker mechanics cut out, heroes tacked on, and TTK increased way up so that forum dads can jerk off in the middle of the match and still have 20s to react before losing all their units.BW and SC2 will have triple this game's peak playerbase 6 years after it's flushed down the drain where it seems like it belongs.
>>2459577The fourth faction that they added with the early access works on a system of combining/transforming units. No terraforming, admittedly.
>>2459586I mean that can be a lot of games though, Earth 2160 comes to mind instantly, with the AyyLmao faction being all about cloning units and transforming them into other variants. Grey Goo's titular Gray Goo faction had a mechanic like that if I recall as well. Both were significantly more interesting takes on the idea as the Ayys didn't even get normal resources, just cloning endlessly. And the Goo had to sacrifice HP to produce more and could absorb enemy units to get more. I indeed didn't see the Xol, but now that i did they seem like a regular faction with a gimmick, rather than actually fully embracing it. On 1.0 i'll play them and see, but from what i saw i'm not holding my breath.
>>2459607Yes, it's admittedly a bit more generic than I was implying, and the Starcraft brain is still very much on display with the Xol with their creep spread and warp-ins.
>Ressources are finiteWhy do (wannabe) Blizzard devs always do this? Having a determined, fixed amount of ressources on the map is actually an exception in RTS.Age of Empire and Command&Conquer don't have a finite amount.Rise of Nations, Cossack and Total Annihilation-likes have non-depleting ressources. So why do they gravitate toward this design decision so much? Even in Starcraft 1, vespene gas is non-finite.
>>2460791Gotta make sure that no game will last longer than 15 minutes.
>>2460791>Age of Empires doesn't have finite amount of resourcesyes it does
>>2461706AoE1 has trade between docks.AoE2 has relics and trade between docks and markets.
>>2460791so lardasses like you don't turtle for 80 minutes every single game
>>2461842Deeply ironic considering it is Heart of the Swarm that had 3 hours long tournament games. Also, your logic is faulty to the core. With non-finite ressources, time favors the one who controls more than 50% of the map, which is the opposite of turtling. With finite ressources, taking better fights by having a defender advantage can be a more successful strategy than fighting on the map. Again, this has been observed at pro level in Starcraft 2 recently.
>>2461866HOTS had the 3 hour match PRECISELY because of the infinite units from swarm hosts you dumb piece of shit
>>2461883how come it's not a problem in TA derivatives where even the biggist 8v8 slugfests last like an hour lmao
>>2461894SC2 doesn't have game ender units (nukes, krogs, etc.)
What's the verdict?
>>2461993just play mental omega instead
I think the game looks promising and has potential- They also try new things with their races unlike stormgate which was literally just a worse version of sc2.Someone described the game as a combination of Legue of Legends and RTS and as an ex leaguefag that doesn't sound unappealing to me.I would give it a go now if this early access wasn't bascially a paid beta test. The playernumbers look underwhelming but I hope they make it and can deliver a good release
ZEROPLAYERS LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

>>2463259I have played the campaign and like OP in that reddit thread I'm very worried for the game. ZeroSpace has plenty of good new concepts, but the product is very far from ready for launch. If I walked into a random devhouse and they told me to try out their newest game in production I would expect to be playing a more refined game. Literally everything in ZeroSpace needs fixing and polish. The fact that they want to ask customers to pay for this seems batshit crazy to me. The only sane explanation is that they're out of cash and this is the last desperate attempt to save the game.
>>2463600they have already confirmed that they released it because of money
>>2463633Unlucky. I wish some rich asshole would throw $100M at the game because it has potential.
>>2463685Elon Musk, if you're reading this, fund ZeroSpace
>>2463685It's already dead. The player count is extremely low. Stormgate had a higher player count on release hah
If it comes out of early access I will get it, but I stopped buying early access games until they are released and launch bugs are fixed.
>>2463721No wonder, while not as bad as stormgaped, the main character and the basic infantry looks like fucking dorks that failed when making their space marine cosplays or iraq war extra armor larp, instead of cool. I don't give a shit about mass effect like storylines or whatever when the main character outside of his armor looks like someone I will run into at wallmart.I will also not buy a $30 beta test.
>>2463731what about a $40 one
>>2451505>yet another "RTS formula from 2001 but worse and with an esports focus"These games put me to fucking sleep. Do something new already, people don't want to play this shit.>>2451685>dust frontThis one is promising and the demo was great, in no small part because it's SP only.
