is this game actually worth it or no?
all that eye candy and the game still feels like a glorified cookie clicker after ten playthroughs or so
Can someone explain to me why balance of groceries never gets better even when building food factories?I tried googling it but the answers were too complicated for me to understand. I need a retardpill.
>>2455549I've realized that because of how SoL is caluclated, this bonus is completely absorbed and doesn't actually register if there is literally any pollution in a statebravo Johan
>>2455927I don't know what you mean by "balance of groceries". If you mean their price doesn't go down, that's because groceries increase in demand as you make more of them because of goods substitution. Never use the alcohol production method. Alcohol is worthless.
>4 years since release>china can still just magically defend Taiwan with their entire army
>>2455978>because groceries increase in demand as you make more of them because of goods substitution. So I should just NEVER build groceries and always spam wheat and fish?If everyone is eating infinite wheat will demand for groceries become nil?
>>2456027No, groceries are great. Agriculture sucks, so transferring food demand to a factory is a great deal. It's why the grocery company is so good.
>>2456030So I should just keep building groceries forever?I'm already the #1 world producer and produce more than the next 4 countries combined, but I'm still 16k in the hole.
>>2456032If it's still profitable then yes. If you don't want to feed the entire world, add export tariffs on it.

why do you still play this game?
the thing about victoria 3 is it's a very basic, midwit, entry level interpretation of socioeconomic history, basically just a power fantasy but for teenage revolutionaries instead of chudsyou industrialize, your entire working population joins the trade unions based on no other factor than their job, then they elect socialists and everyone lives happily ever afterthere is no concept of labor aristocracy, there is no concept of false conciousness, there is no notion of concessions from the ruling class to the workers (like, for example, bismarck's state socialism), because that goes against the very flat and scripted nature of marxist gospelas basic and rudimentary as the political system in victoria 2 was it was still at least better at simulating this than v3 is, when there was high militancy your conservatives would support reforms, as bismarck didnow you might say this mechanic also exists in victoria 3, but it doesn'ta movement with high agitation does indeed allow you to start the process of enacting reform, BUT the conservatives won't back it as they did in real life, and in victoria 2whole thing just feels like lazy wish fulfilment from the devs and as a result it's incongruent, anarchronistic, and immersion killingthis is to say nothing of the clear and nonsensical political bias in the game, for example the loading screens depicting blacks marching with suffragettes, despite one of the key impetuses and complaints of the suffragettes being that they as white women should hold greater political status than black men, and of course every single country in the game, including places like sokoto and zulu having at least 20% literacy in 1836 by default, an easy one minute fix that has been in the game for years because they don't want to upset their own sensibilities, nor in fact those of the reddit libs who upvote this shit
>>2456678Chuds lost.
You know Adam Smith's Invisible Hand, the original concept of which was that conditions being equal, capitalists prefer investing in their home country? This game has the opposite of that. If you play as a subject all your capitalist money will go towards building shit in your overlord. It's absurd.
>>2455557Victoria 3 was super Reddit on launch but only gets more chuddic with every update.
>>2456004Not having real armies and navies was probably the biggest fuck up paradox ever made in a game. Genuinely wtf was Wiz thinking.
>>2457223Adam Smith never lived during the time of true “Capitalists” who owned massive ass factories and industries and shit. He was describing a world of shopkeepers and merchants.
>>2457233>i want econ balance cookie clicker>abstract everything else to meaninglessness so the wrong sort of players don't play>only map painting in africa on blank land based on country econ>put in token politics system so commie underling devs will shut upTurned out the Right Sort of Player didn't buy the game, but just the normal map autists, so they've had to make everything less abstract.
>>2455549>SoL increases by 1>everyone now demands more goods>they don't have the wages or the supply of the goods available (because else they'd have that higher SoL level)>SoL goes down for those who can't afford *just enough* goods to stay on the higher SoLOr at least that's my theory
>>2455557>PB>now has conditional attraction based on SoL... huh.Wiki isn't making it clear if the +2 per SoL is on top of the working class and middle class SoL gains.Weirdly capitalists have +1 per SoL to industrialist, when their base is 250 and their secondary is 100-150 in intelligentsia (I guess so we can have historic communists), I'd almost expect paradox to have instead make their industrialist loyalty perhaps entirely based on their SoL.
>>2455927>>2456032Consumption = Production + Goods Preference.Groceries are preferred and like anon said it makes your food go further. The factories also employ people.I cannot tell you if alcohol is better made on a farm or in a factory but it does stimulate demand for glass unless I've forgotten the PM.>I'm still 16k in the holeWhy not let the private sector handle food production? Sell your food factories for a quick burst + tax their profits + let them fund new factories so you can stop spending so much on construction. There's no reason for most players to own the meat packing plants. Though I'm not entirely sure what these buildings represent as throughout the game they eat up grain and sugar yet I thought dough wasn't made industrially until recently.
>>2457223IRL>aristocrats, capitalists and traders left their countries for the metropole of their owning european nation>retained their businesses abroad and dictated foreign policy for the economic zones labelled Britain and France, such as finding new buyers for opium in previously closed markets>they bilt shit in the "overlord" partly because they are a part of the overlord>emigrants from the metropole would take their wealth to their new nations, whether inside or outside of their empire of originin-game>rich people do not migrate, neither immigrant nor emigrant>rich people invest in businesses where their profit is greatest (high market access + throughput bonus/"economy of scale"/building size + RGO exists and has high building size)>rich people invest in the metropole with its stacking bonuses, creating a super nation of a line goes up concrete jungle with infinite immigration attraction>postmodern living standards are achieved yet not postmodern redistribution of factories to human resource rich east european barely-democracies or asian countriesDoesn't seem too absurd to me. I do agree that having zero control over investment is disappointing. I would say you might find it works "better" if you make some starter industries so profits don't have bad numbers due to neither production nor consumption being in the state + then using industrial decrees, but you might find your capitalists have so little money they weren't going to build anything for you anyway.
>>2456030>It's why the grocery company is so good.I thought that was purely because of the+5% birthrate bonus.

>>2456678>one of the key impetuses and complaints of the suffragettes being that they as white women should hold greater political status than black men>Short answer: Yes — for a significant faction of white suffragists, especially Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. it really tickles me that the mechanics of Closed Borders aren't just setting migration = no, but raising the acceptance limit for migration higher than the game tracks. First time playing grand strategy and it's so overwhelming, how long did it take you guys to get over this learning curve? I've put in five hours so far playing as Vietnam and feel like I haven't learned anything at all.
>>2461429Paradox games take a while to learn, but aren't overly complex once you understand the basics. Vietnam is an bad choice for starters, try something easier like Japan (high literacy + good pops) or Spain (mid tier european power)
>>2461429Victoria 3 is the best game at explaining things but its also the most fragile mechanically, by fragile i mean that so many things interact with each other and sometimes even just a few seemingly unimportant mistakes can ruin a country in an instant, all the other Paradox games aren't even remotely as punishing and i've been playing them since EU1.
>>2461454Have you played EU5?
>>2461429For me the biggest difference between Victoria 3 and other grand strategy games is you don't want to overcommit. In any other Paradox title spamming x amount of something always makes sense and will pay dividends. In Victoria 3 if you just spam 20 construction centers before you have the prerequisite iron and tools you'll fuck up your entire economy because you'll have to pay exorbitant amounts for them. Same for everything, but it's most noticeable with construction centers.

Boomers are, rightfully so i'd say, made fun of for saying stuff like "communism is when the state does stuff" or "socialism is when sharing".We are now at the point where leftists definition of fascism is unironically just when we have rules, when people are healthy, when small businesses exists and the general metaphysical concept of donald j. trump. I used to believe they were just cynically abusing terms to underhandedly strongman in arguments, but i've gradually come to the conclusion that they're all so seriously retarded and delusional that they seriously believe it. God forbid someone just ask a fascist what fascism is, can't do that now.>>2461580kek

>>2461587as was foretold many moons ago
>>2461576Fascism is a revolutionary way to transform whatever kind of state into the "corporate state". That is a body of institutions and groups that work to achieve the objectives of the nation-state as defined by a political party.
>>2461599isn't this just modern day china?Either way i've just completely given up on trying to partake in a good faith argument on fascism as i've almost never seen anyone actually attempt to partake in one in good faith. Almost all discussions on fascism usually just dissolves into wordplay and tug of wars about semantics. The perfect example being a "debate" between some leftist debate-bro and a right winger who actually wanted to have a productive conversation, but the whole thing simply became a war of attrition for the leftist to call charlie kirk a fascist. Also pretty funny how many times i see people misspell it, from facist, fasist, fachist, i'm surprised nobody's called it fagist yet.
For me, all ideologies are more about self-identification than anything. The aforementioned China, post Dengist reforms, with their 51% state ownership of companies and "communist billionaires" meets every defined notion of fascism, but it is not popularly considered as such because they do not self-identify as fascist.Meanwhile Mosley, who called for an anti-war parliamentary democracy with the king IS a fascist, purely because he self identified as one.
>>2461602To elaborate further on my point, the Khmer Rogue, an anti-intellectual, anti-industrialist, rural agrarian peasant regime is considered Marxist, despite that being the literal opposite of what Marx wrote, again purely because he called himself communist.
>>2461602>>2461603that's fair, but i'd then separate on what the ideology is and what said country, party, people and so on would follow that ideology. The usual example being the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Is North Korea democratic? now what 'democracy' really even is is a whole other discussion; but let's use the conventional liberal-democratic understanding of democracy. Then i'd say north korea isn't really too democratic. This also obviously leads into a lot of cynical ways of using terms, such as with the provided examples of the khmer rouge and north korea being routinely pointed to as being examples of how leftists and conservatives either unintentionally or purposefully calling either 'communist tragedies' or 'not true communism'. Personally i'd say neither was 'communist' although north korea is the only country i can think of with a completely state controlled command economy. Now i wouldn't play stupid and end it there and attempt to purposefully blame all state control within the economy like north korea, but i'd still say it is an observable reality of north korea. What a lot of this boils down to is essentially a series of equivocations to demonize modern political opponents. communism = socialism = state control in the economy = NK = bad = public medicine and taxation is bad. Or fascism = mussolini = hitler = holocaust = you need to let in the whole third world to rape and murder your children or you're literally hitler. I most often harp on about leftists, but the perfect counter example to this is libertarian types calling national-socialism leftists and socialist because it has socialism in the name. Anyone who calls national-socialism left wing or socialist is either a turboretard or knows what they're doing and are doing so extremely cynically.
>>2461603Also just to add, I personally would make a valid claim that china is national-socialist, for both better and worse. I usually see free-marketeers praise china for liberalizing the economy, yet blame communism for its problems and leftists do so vice-versa. Although if simply analyzing the chinese system for what it is, isn't it a fair claim that it being national-socialist is correct?
Also sorry to split this up into separate replies, but a lot of the time i see people using single examples of things having one trait of an ideology and thus proclaiming said this is that entire ideology. The perfect example being north korea and monarchism. Just because the transition of the head of state for NK is hereditary doesn't make it a monarchy. Just how like the state having a police force doesn't make it totalitarian or how simply having taxation doesn't make it a socialist state.
Fascism is impossible to define because all modern states adopted its ideas. Countries that don't claim legitimacy from God or Marx are by definition fascist. All modern nation-states are such, but they don't identify as fascist, which means the definition is useless.
>>2461601Not exactly. For example modern day China doesn't directly control a lot of companies stablished on the country, although a lot of them have a special ideological department that makes sure the business does not directly clash with the goals of the state. The main problem is that commies have stablished the idea fascism = evil and have used that for the past 50+ years to bully people in the ideological debate. Plus fascism doesn't have 150+ year of theorical thinking written by fascists, so it's more difficult to talk about it. Compare it to Marxism wich is mostly bullshit, specially after Eurocommunism and the Frankfurt School.
>>2454993>haven't played vicky in 3 years>decide to try again>get locked into a deathwar with Brazil within 4 years of the game startingAnd what's up with the new interest system, why is it so bad?
every playthrough this game somehow finds a new way of not just revealing but to surprise me, in the worst meaning of that word, with the absolute depth of its specific mixture of embarrassing circlejerking and propagandization that the devs somehow still had zero shame stooping down to
>>2461903the whole game is essentially a low iq attempt at gramscian subversive propaganda. It's so niche of a game and subject that most normies won't touch it, but the only ones who are actually interested in the time period are mostly just reactionary chuds and a few higher iq orthodox marxists of which post-schism western marxism and post-marxism isn't really of interest. The devs and primary community view it as specifically a political project to rewrite history, take it from the horses mouth i routinely see redditors comment that they can't include certain stuff less the chuds actually take interest. It's also just tiring listen to them defend it. They either just usually attempt to misunderstand, call you stupid or play ignorant themselves, with it ending up as 'chuds call this game woke because it has le women's rights'. Also funny how they made almost all women copy-paste feminist revolutionaries when women were actually more conservative than men even for the time. Could obviously go on with pointing out obvious historical inaccuracies, but we both probably know what the problems are.I'm just tired of how shameless they are. Maybe they're just actually incapable of it?
I did it Bismarck! I got rid of the poles!
Why tf is it called gulf of Mexico bruh.
you can tell the game was made by LARPers who haven't actually read a lick of any Marxist philosophy because it's not only possible, but pretty easy for a country with universal suffrage to elect a communist party and then legislatively remake the country into a soviet republic without either a reactionary revolution, a coalition invasion by foreign powers, or both coordinated with each other
>>2462065It's literally just a power fantasy simulator but for redditors instead of chuds. The wrong sort of people liked Victoria 2, they were genociding minorities, they were electing reactionaries, and some, I assume, were good people.Interest groups being based entirely on profession completely gimps the game, you can't be a lumberjack without joining the trade unionists and raising the red flag.
>>2462044Not sure if you're baiting. The final argument would be "It's historically accurate".I've never double checked if Paradox does the """neutral""" name for the English Channel and I'm not doing an Ottoman run to see what they've decided Republican Turkey should be called.
>>2462065yes, which is why it's not marxist, but postmarxist. The goal isn't really to implement communism™, but to import the third world. It's not really so much about passing council republic or workers coops as it is about passing multiculturalism. If marx saw this game he'd be rolling in his grave probably. It's also why it's basically impossible to actually choose to have birthrate policies instead of migration policies to raise population as it would go against the LARP. Also why women's suffrage, and very obviously also inferred enfranchisement in universities and so on, only lowers the birth rate by a marginal 5% instead of collapsing it.>>2462070>It's literally just a power fantasy simulator but for redditors instead of chuds100% that's probably the best description of it i've heard so far. The difference being that some edgy 14yo chud who makes a hoi4 mod to simulate the holocaust is just one edgy kid; vic3 is a mass media product with a dedicated, hourly waged dev team with the soul purpose of doing just that but for redditors. I mean i don't even have anything against redditors playing power fantasies, if they wanna make mods to genocide whites i don't really care, but when a dev team advertises a game in a historical period as a historical grand strategy and release a reddit mod power fantasy, i think it's understandable that some people wouldn't be too enthusiastic.I just hate how shameless and pretentious they are about it. They pretend it isn't when it so obviously fucking is. I'd have more respect for them if they at least owned up to it. As i've said previously in other threads and replies, the only people i see genuinely enjoying this game for what it wants to be are low iq's, redditors and browns. Als really telling that one of the main artists behind some of the mods is a black girl. I don't get how paradox expects the new demographic of browns, redditors and trannies to stick around to play historical grand strategies like chuds did.
>>2462074ok but why isn't it kiev then?
>>2462074eh, i mean i'd say GoMexico is fair in this instance since it's actually accurate, I don't know about the english channel, but since it's a game about the victorian era, i'd say it's fair to use the english name. Pretty sure it's also just called Turkey if they become a republic.>>2462077it is? I mean it's called Kiev if owned by russia and Kyiv if it's owned by ukraine. I wouldn't necessarily have with how that is.
>>2461429It used to be easier. The game was originally a building simulator where you had direct control over the economy. Now it's a frankenstein monster where you're mostly tinkering around the edges until your tax snowball is big enough you're allowed to do things.Tax used to be 10x easier, and arguably is not fit for purpose currently, because everyone's wages went up when profits went up, but now they don't. And all tax laws are predicated on this concept because you are not allowed to tax the rich, nor the poor, just everyone equally, and ironically the game only has a choice of regressive taxation and equal taxation, even though income tax has always had progressive elements (you earn more = you pay a higher proportion/get punished to a greater degree), especially those enacted during/before the time period. There also weren't secessions and there was I think no concept of "consciousness" = rebellion, so you could literacy max (which is also punished currently by bad wages).
>>2460653>do nothing for 3 years>eventually occupy 95% of the ottomans>don't occupy wargoal>let ottomans occupy their only wargoal>war exhaustion hits 100%>loseSeems to be working as intended, tsar.I haven't ever tried to see if you can enforce goals on both sides of a peace deal but did you at least see if you could do>Egyptian independence>Ottomans gains ownership of Montenegrobecause I think you were simply, as war leader, cockblocking Egypt from leaving because you really wanted something you couldn't occupy.

i don't know if anyone else here feel the same, but i think infamy should be reworked or just straight up nerfed. It either feels like i'm wasting it doing nothing or having to just go fuck it and have infinite death wars to get anywhere. It currently feels like a very all or nothing system that either doesn't matter or stops everything to a screeching halt.Maybe more or better ways of buffing infamy degeneration would work?
>>2462091This is a common complaint that the devs repeatedly ignore. It's easily solved by adding a bonus for staying at 0 infamy. I'm sure it will finally be fixed 5 years from now.
After playing at all different parts of the world I concluded agriculture is 100% useless. The most profitable one you can build is bananas, but you don't want to do it because the shit wages decrease SOL and kill migration. The demand for all agricultural goods is tiny and easily satisfied, so it's impossible to build even a small economy around them. Mid game when you swap to groceries grain price become high, but farms are still not profitable because agricultural buildings are just that bad.
>>2462093you're probably right, but i feel like something a bit more dynamic like the interest changes could maybe fit. I for one actually really liked the interest changes.Either way it's probably gonna be half-assed and require a 30$ dlc. Think i said this earlier in the thread, but i won't be surprised if PDX turns into the simcity to some future cities: skylines. I think it's just a question of time now. I'd say they're actually comparable to bethesda, pretending they're a small indie studio making games in the early 2000's instead of a fairly large studio making games in the 2020's. I just don't know if they've realised it themselves yet.
>>2462094Agriculture is only good for depeasanting when you have lots of high pop states like Russia or China. It's much more efficient than building actual worthwhile industry because they build a lot faster.

>>2462949Not really, in EU5 it was (still is?) "order army to cross the channel, watch my fleet wait 2 months before deciding to do it"
>>2462969Let me guess, you overbuilt and entered a debt spiral?
>>2463090Nope I'm positive balance but there is literally nothing to do. The research does absolutely nothing. There is nothing to do with the military. I just sit here at 5x speed waiting for something to happen and nothing does. Just stupid "oh these poor people let us bring in communism" events.
>>2463104This is a cookie clicker game. You're supposed to minmax your construction loop. If your starting country is too small it can't build so you'll be sitting there doing nothing.
>>2463157>If your starting country is too small it can't build so you'll be sitting there doing nothingI feel like vic3 is both the hardest yet also most piss easy pdx game. Simply because you either start with something and can pretty easily just snowball into top 10 gp or you start with a toothpick and gonorrhea of which you will never develop into anything and just get raped.I feel like hoi4 is fairly well balanced in difficulty compared to country size, while this game is pretty much all or nothing.
>>2463177That's because V3's economic system is a pure snowball. Other Paradox games have speed limits on growth, but nothing like that exists for construction in V3. The rich get richer forever.
Is the new naval system extremely finicky to use and tedious or am I just a retard?
>>2463186Both are correct.
whoever came up with the broken promises achievement should get shot

I took Sinai, but can't create the Suez Company because France already did when they owned it. I nationalised the Ports in Sinai. The French Suez Company is now apparently located in Provence and because of all the buildings it owns everywhere, is still making a profit, and won't die.Is there anything I can do?

What causes the sudden drops in GDP I'm seeing? I'm playing Belgium and I seem to rapidly move like several hundred thousand dollars. It's keeping me from building things because I'm maxing out my debt.

Something larger, main character countries don't care about, but is the only way minors can interact with the game.
>>2463759I don't think paradox's women in game represent women. Much like how their men don't represent their historical counterparts.

So during war I ordered my fleet to repair not really understanding the command. It recalled my entire fleet back for repairs and I realized they show up in the naval construction queue. I cancelled the construction and tried to get my fleet back into combat but it would not let me change repair from the mission. Anyone know how to cancel in that situation? I ended up finishing the war, but it was not what I wanted to do as my ships were not critical, just damaged from several battles.

>>2464986Consumption is tied to SoL.If your SoL says they require purchasing 5 grams of cocaine, they will attempt to buy it.Now cocaine is fungible with any other intoxicant, so sherry, port or opium are options and at this stage consumption is decided based on production modified by an arbitrary weight (for example wine has a quarter weight whereas beer has full weight, meaning beer technically has a bonus 75% of wine's weight, no it's not particularly obvious how this affects demand and price and if things like wine should ever be above "Normal" price or if the brown penny price should be considered that actual "Normal" price).>Liquor (£30, max 0.75)>Tobacco (£40, weight ×0.9, max 0.75)>Opium (£50, weight ×0.75, max 0.75)>Wine (£50, weight ×0.25, max 0.25)So anyway, onto the actual consideration. If you make people pay more for their cocaine, they will, statistically, on a collective scale, be poorer. This translates to their SoL going down (they cannot afford as much cocaine, ergo they cannot afford their current SoL, ergo they will try to afford the next lowest SoL purchase packet). You CAN lower a desire for opium and tobaccy by having a taboo for them, somehow, which would require modding, or playing a Muslim nation with a taboo on drinks. This merely halves the demand... somehow... the wiki doesn't say if it is applied to the weight of production, aka you'd have to produce twice as much to have the same consumption, or produce less of everything else somehow. I've never checked if this means Hindus eat meat.Oh and there appears to be an additional modifier that reduces consumption as a whole for a taboo, so theorising modding, you could increase everyone's SoL by making things taboos. Why drink water when you can drink air (and pay an air tax) and still be SoL10?Or in other words, Victoria 3 considers the average person, at least statistically, to partake in everything. If the game simulated crime, that approach would be criticised.
>>2465669AFAIK, supply influences pops' consumption behavior. You can produce/import more goods to override weights
>>2465669>Or in other words, Victoria 3 considers the average person, at least statistically, to partake in everything. It's funny how the more you zoom out from the individual, the more statistically predictable they become. Criminality is probably abstracted and baked into mortality tied to SoL. It's what they did with disease being part of pollution.

>>2466022From my experience tag switching through great powers in the mid or late game, most are usually stuck in massive deficits that'll eventually lead to or are already in bankruptcy loops. Spending 1/4 of their money on welfare or losing out on 1/4 because of turmoil from massive unemployment. >>2461710Commies have a particular axe to grind with fascism because it totally BTFOed the grand “scientific” narrative of history they were setting up in the late 19th and early 20th century. After WW1 there was supposed to be an epic battle which replayed the French Revolution and Napoleonic Wars but this time being proletarian vs bourgeoisie instead of bourgeoisie vs aristocrat. That was supposed to be the natural, scientific progression of history from capitalism to socialism. Then fascism came out of nowhere as a third position between both capitalism and socialism which totally BTFOed this “scientifically inevitable” conflict.
>>2466336It does. I wish it was possible to create agricultural powerhouses like Russia and the US but it’s impossible.
>>2466547What's really frustrating is that even when grain prices are very high (after grocery maxing), farms are still not profitable. They're so bad.
>>2466542>fascism came out of nowhere as a third position between both capitalism and socialismHow is it "between both capitalism and socialism"?It's just state capitalism. That existed before fascism and after fascism, it was the program of the conservatives in Britain against the Whig/liberals' complete laissez-faire approach. The only plausible argument you could make for it being between capitalism and socialism is the Syndicalist Falangists in Spain, but they were always a fringe off-shoot, and we'll never know how their system would have played out in practice, I suspect it would just be capitalism again only the workers have a nominal state-appointed shop steward o algo.
>>2466634State capitalism is between capitalism and socialism.
>>2462070I don’t think this is really the case anymore. IG is not even as closely tied to profession as it was on release. Plus there will always be Marxist shit in a game set in the 19th century since even though his sociological theories and predictions of the future were retarded he did a very good job at describing what was taking place in the century he lived in.
>>2466646Cont.Engels even moreso, since unlike Marx he owned a factory, interacted with real people, and wasn’t a fat NEET. Marx was pretty “terminally online” for the Victorian age.

>>2466779I'm not a vet at this game and I don't have any DLC so the only power bloc I could form was a trade league, which is fine because I feel that trade best represents it. The game makes owning slaves a pain in the ass. I was always starved for authority and I kept having to spend it on suppressing slave revolts half the game. I could never spare authority to promote pro slavery interest groups. Also, when I became the CSA, legacy slavery changed to slave trade for some reason. I don't really see much upside in slave trade. I can't really figure out if slaves are actually being traded? I'm guessing it helped me expand my cotton industry by giving me more slaves? Either way, it took me a long time to go back to legacy slavery and I kept that the entire game. As far as influencing slavery on the rest of the world, I have no idea. South and central America could probably be persuaded to keep slavery through treaties from wars. But I found by the end of the game, the entire world hated me. I tried to be as true to the values of the confederacy by not being a big government or imperialistic and just being conservative in the true sense. Also, when the US took some mexican land, I would later return it to Mexico and make them pay me for it. Great Britain also beat me to Panama unfortunately, but I did take several central American countries for the rubber. I tried to build a great navy, but war with great britain really hurt it. I did have 3 aircraft carriers in the end.
>>2466792Shucks... I guess I'll have to do my own CSA campaign then. Also, how is Thomas Jackson still alive?
>>2466783I would show you production if I could. I only have 1 save file because of iron man and when I load the file it takes me directly to the end game screen. I wish I could show more information. Funnily when you load the file after closing it initially at the end game, it actually shows you the terrain but no other information in the background. Also I finished this campaign a few days ago before the patch, not sure if that matters. I still need to look over the new patch. Really stupid for Paradox to not let you view more on a ironman file. Basically I was in a really big war with the US and the Britain at the end. I had taken the Panama Canal and was kicking both US and British ass on land (US has mostly union states California, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada; Britain has canada, Washington, Oregon, and Idaho; Confederacy has traditional south, the western midwest and rockies). However I was getting thrashed by the royal navy in the sea and my carrier fleet was barely alive.
>>2466797Yeah it's the only screenshot I took really because I was amazed by it. Lee died a long long time ago. Jackson I never used for the military. He led the Lewis and Clark expedition and became a politician the rest of his life but I promoted him to Lt. General just to keep him happy.
>>2466804Actually I have 1 more screenshot showing the map in 1920 and this is how American borders looked at the end. I had occupied all of Canada but I didn't want to keep it, just to kick the british out of north america during the war.

>>2466888I love playing tall in grand strategy games actually. That's why I played the CSA because it's fun to industrialize the south and try to compete with a small population. I try to make sense of things from what I know about history. Like okay, I should build shipyards in Florida and Alabama because of Pennsicola and Mobile. Stuff like that. It's cool how company requirements steer you into those kind of industries too. I feel more rewarded in Stellaris when I put buildings on planets, I'm not sure why that is, but for some reason I feel more connection to buildings in that game. I also feel more connected with my counties in crusader kings. I never played EU 4 or 5, vicky 2, or any of those so I don't know how those feel.
>>2466894No, the UI is permanently in the UI, it's as important as population, GDP, and literacy apparently.

>>2466896maybe they have to be incorporated states? Not sure but as the CSA where I have slaves in every state, they do factor in my average standard I think.
>>2466884Pre-XIX century literacy rates are mostly made up because there was no way to measure it or even a definition for what being "literate" is. If we look up to 1300-1500 Europe we know that a surprisingly high amount of peasants could partially read texts in their vernacular language, but this didn't mean they were really literate because most important education and information was in latin or is some other language (french, spanish, italian). So basically it's all bullshit.

>>2466919I think they made an interesting system in Imperator. The way it works in EUV is a clear sign the devs are retarded.
Oh god, imagine if we have actual Boomers or Gen-Xers among us. You have to be 60+ to be this obstinate about technology.Or maybe every single person bitching about new UI is 30-40+ years old that doesn't realize that learning isn't involuntary anymore. If you don't make deliberate effort to retain information, you will not retain it.
>>2466929Im in my 30s and the UI SUCKS DICK. I should not have to scroll through a long menu of buildings and constantly have to change it everytime I build a new one. Also, when you apply filters, expanding the filters takes up half the fucking screen. It's not intuitive at all.
>>2466932Ignore the smug zoomer who wasn't even born when Vicky 2 was released. He thinks infinite nesting tooltips are peak design.

>>2466933>zoomerI'm a millennial, actually. Just self-aware enough that I don't absorb information automatically, anymore. And Vicky 2's UI is simplistic, because the game is, too.
>>2466945V3's UI isn't intuitive to anyone, it's not an age issue. The time it takes to get used to something has no relation to whether it's good design or not.
>>2466959And you know nothing about design. Beyond your own retarded monkey brain thinking it's too complicated.
>>2462075>It's also why it's basically impossible to actually choose to have birthrate policies instead of migration policies to raise population as it would go against the LARP.As Japan, I managed to reach about 200m people by the end of the game, without immigration, and without colonies. Purely Japanese people in Japan. It absolutely is possible to raise your population with births.>Also why women's suffrage, and very obviously also inferred enfranchisement in universities and so on, only lowers the birth rate by a marginal 5% instead of collapsing it.That's only the direct effect on the birth rate. Indirectly, allowing women into the workplace in vic3 will also raise your GDP per capita, which will eventually translate into SoL, and then into lower birth rates. Cooperative ownership and welfare contribute to this phenomenon too.

Why does this thread attract so many with zero interest in playing the game?
>>2466751It’s a sign of the lower IQ of the population and their inability to separate fact from fiction plus the weird neo-Calvinist ideology that developed among leftists during woke 1.Retards think that if you put something in fiction, even if it’s a bad guy doing it, or even worse, if you’re playing as a bad guy in a role playing game and doing it, that you endorse it.
>>2467015Lot of people who don’t play the game remember how retarded it was on launch and don’t know how chuddified it became with later updates.Victoria 3 didn’t even feel like a Victorian era game on launch. It felt like some weird ass modern politics and economy sim with a Victorian aesthetic. After adding all the shit to make it a more historically accurate representation of the era it naturally became more chuddified. For example, the intelligentsia IG used to have multiculturalism as a PRIMARY ideology trait, meaning it was an inherent part of their interest group to support importing millions of Ngubus, Jeets, and Changs to Brussels or some shit. I genuinely don’t know what history book you’d have to have read to come away with the conclusion that the middle-upper class liberal intelligentsia of the 19th century would have supported that. With later updates, now only the most pozzed ideologies support full on multiculturalism.
>>2467146Yes but that doesn't explain why those mental rejects still hang around here, railing so confidently against a version of the game that no longer exists. They remind me of people with dementia asking you for their long dead wife or mother.

>>2467331It was almost certainly in a changelog somewhere in a patch that you never read about or played because you're more interested in bitching about the state of a game as it was 4 years ago than in actually playing games.
>>2467337Actually I've recently picked up the game after trying it at launch and hating it, the only reason I've done that is I was told these egregious things were changing and that the game was good now, hence why I'm here.I can tell that you're one of the people who preferred it at launch though, when it was more of a reddit wet dream. Interesting that the narrative you've constructed in your head is that I've literally been posting in this thread every single day for 4 years, seething. That's either a politically motivated choice on their part OR a glaring oversight, neither says good things about the development team.I didn't bother checking if it had changed because I just assumed after 3 years it never would. It's just an aside in a much longer post, the fact that you have latched on to that particular sentence and been so personally offended by it speaks volumes. That they have now righted the wrong is a good thing, and one of the positive changes that I alluded to that has brought me back to the game. I trust you are just as pleased as me that the game is now more historically accurate?

I made the 4th post in this thread about my game.Unsurprisingly checking Zulu literacy doesn't factor into a game where you don't colonize Africa or become Wakanda. Why does someone being happy starting literacy rates are now more accurate upset you so much? What great insult is being done to you by me holding this opinion? But please, keep adding to this strawman. I'm enjoying the embellishment.
>>2467360>Right, it only changed less than a yearSimple question, anon. If the oldest source you can find of someone describing the sky as blue is from one year ago does that mean that the sky was of a different colour before that?
>>2467380I wasn't the one who made the assertion that it was changed less than a year ago, ask >>2467354 that question.
>>2467360The only reason literacy was even fucked at launch was because of how starting literacy used to be tied to Institutions or something like that. It was more the result of releasing the game only 25% finished than a deliberate choice tbqh.Hawaii for example only had 20% literacy even though technically everyone there was 100% literate.
>>2467384"close to a year ago or more" read that line a few times anon.

I'm starting to think Private Education is the best education law for large countries. Assimilation and conversion do nothing, so those are pointless. I think racial segregation maybe better than cultural exclusion if you got a lot of no shared trait pops. They'll hate you all the same but they will stay tier 2 and have slightly higher mortality. So you end up with less people wanting out.
I quite enjoy the mini game of changing state majorities into your culture.
>>2469411They also changed multiculturalism. It used to make all pops fully accepted, now pops of wrong religion and with no shared traits can be tier 3 at most.
Just came back from a week long vacation, just wanted to add on the launch vs current vic3 state. First of all, whatever retard says i don't play the game can simply slit their wrists as it's my 5th most played game on steam, possibly 4th if you take into the time i spent playing the pirated copy.A lot of people as said was so repulsed, rightly so, by the game when it launched during, again, peak woke. Now yes it has changed, but that's like saying the chef has finally removed the elephant shit from the bowl after a shit ton of complaints and then not being able to notice the smaller stains of shit and piss in it because you've been to occupied trying to repel the toxic gasses of what was removed.Upon that, as said in another reply by someone else, they've even added and strengthened things like migration quotas and melting pot assimilation. A lot of the writing and events are also shamelessly and imbecilically just beating you over the head with the writing with the subtly of trying to rape a cow on amphetamines.Could go on, but everyone, if in good faith, understands what i'm attempting to convey. I'd have much more respect if you simply admitted to what this game was, and arguably still is, attempting to be and to do; or will you simply deny it all until people stop trying to communicate with you?
>>2469521No. Cultural exclusion is best because all pops have min 20 acceptance. Every country should use it every time.
>>2469668Right, right, but, hypotetically speaking, what if I want some pops to die? or at least reproduce slower than some others?
>>2469677This is just a guess, but I'd try something like National Supremacy and high / very high taxes while spamming Violent Suppression decrees everywhere
>>2469677Doesn't work. You're best off using the assimilation decree with cultural exclusion.
>>2469603If you don't like it why do you play it so much?
>>2469799i originally hated is as what it said it wanted to be and advertised itself as, but i enjoy it as a cookie clicker with a skin over it. I just find the bits i don't like annoying and especially hate the people saying it's a good grand strategy game, let alone a good game about the victorian era, a lot.As this and probably many other threads have said and discussed, it's a very obvious propaganda piece meant to represent a very specific part of history through a very specific lens, i would honestly just respect it more if the devs and their fans were more honest about it.
>>2469804>but i enjoy it as a cookie clicker with a skin over itYeah, you don't play the game. Feel free to post Steam screenshot proving otherwise.
>>2469897
>>2469904>369So what 4 games do you play more?
>>2469906Technically anno 1800 and maybe some other pirated/non-steam games may be up there, but these are the most played ones. Have wanted to get back into hoi, but seeing that it constantly crashes for seemingly no reason, i've given up. I've mostly taken a step back from vidya and just browsing yt and doomscrolling xitter until i was banned. Gotten back into mario galaxy 2 on dolphin though; but other than that, i just mostly play vic3 to kill time while watching goyslop.
>>2469908>it constantly crashes for seemingly no reasonMods?
>>2469916i've tried everything, not mods. What seems to maybe be an issue is that i have an intel 13 gen cpu and an asus motherboard fucking things up for some reason. Others have apparently have had some similar problems with eu4 in the past, but idk. My pirated photoshop also seems to crash for no reason, but that may be unrelated.
>>2469930Try lowering game speed.
>>2469935yeah, it usually runs better at lower speeds, but at certain points, especially in mid to late game, i get tired of playing at 4 or 3 speed and still crashing. Might have something to do with the ram. I'll probably just wait to either just replace the motherboard and/or get more ram and/or a new cpu before playing.
>>2469908Do you think the next DLC is the last DLC for HoI IV?
>>2469941Eh, i'm actually not sure. I mean it's very obvious they're at least in pre-production for hoi5, but i think we'll get a couple of dlc's before then.Won't surprise me if most of latin and the rest of south america won't get too much content. I'd wager the next dlc is either U.S, U.K & france or U.S, canada and latin america, with another dlc after that being either UK & france or UK, SA, canada and new zealand (it's so fucking gay NZ didn't get a focus tree in the latest SEA dlc). After that i can't really see anywhere else we'll get more content. Hoi5 will either come next year or be revealed next year and released 2028/9. Gonna be surprised if they release hoi5 on any date other than june 6th honestly.btw, götterdämmerung is arguably the most overrated dlc, germany still has a fairly mid focus tree still i'd say. The soviet one being probably the best and most fun still.
>>2469941No they'll milk HOI4 until the very last minute. It's their biggest money maker.
>>2469949Idk, i get where you're coming from, but i personally at least have decided to stop being a cuck for pdx and probably won't buy any more dlc unless they're actually good. does army speed affect how fast a front advances or is it literally just the general's stance that does it?
>>2471851think it might be occupation or something if it's the speed of which armies occupy you're thinking about. Army speed is simply just how fast they can move on the map from font to front for example. i might be retarded and wrong, but that's how i at least would understand it as.

how in the fuck do qualifications actually work? I get that they're supposed to scale off of pop literacy and wealth, and university levels, but no matter how rich and literate my pops are, and no matter how many universities I build, I always hit a permanent deficit of qualifications to staff all my buildings by 1880-90
>>2472747Qualifications are affected by wealth, literacy, and some laws. If you're purposefully keeping literacy low or are on the guild system you'll have trouble with qualifications, and generally you want a promotion pipeline if you want to turn peasants into capitalists. Subsidizing city centers isn't a bad idea if you have the cash since it hires a lot of middle class pops that can promote out of it
>>2472809my literacy is 98% and I don't have guilds but all my factories are still being throttled by how slowly people become clerks
