Is there a single /vst/ game where the longbowman isn't OP?
How many games can you even name that specifically have longbows? I recall AoE2, AoE3, Tzar, and Cultures 2.
>>2456310eu4they barely have better pips than their competition and are therefore not op

>>2456425>Battle BrothersYou sure about that, boy?
>>2456488Yes. For the player they are the worst ranged weapon. For enemies they can be good if they have terrain advantage and can shoot from a hill or behind barriers. So all in all certainly not overpowered.
>>2456512Worse than slings or swords he says
>>2456512I actually agree, I was just making the joke because I've lost many a good bro to master archers in what should have been easy brigand fights.
>>2456528Well slings are so bad I forgot they existed.

>>2456310Civ 3. It's just a poor man's *attacking* unit in case you got no luck getting iron to produce medieval infantry. The actual top defensive unit of the era is actually the pikeman in this game.
>>2456486fucking halflings
>>2456310OG Stronghold, also crossbows are cooler in general
>Compared to Archers, Longbowmen have +8 hit points, +1 attack strength, +2 attack range, and cost -10 Timber, as well as doing -5% damage against all units except Heavy Infantry, against which they do +23.5% damageWeird damage reduction
>Is there a single /vst/ game where the longbowman isn't OP?No, because bri'ish historical revisionism has made everyone believe that any (English) villager with a longbow was a medieval sniper commando who could shoot a (French) knight between the eye slit from 200 paces. In reality, the longbow was a somewhat effective weapon in the 10th and 11th centuries until plate armor technology advanced to the point where basically no arrow could penetrate it. Fortunately, this was concomitant with the advance in firearms technology and so we never had to suffer through a boring tank meta.
>>2462601how pretentious does the game need to be to use "wealth" and "timber" instead of gold and wood?
>>2456310Longbows are pretty shit in Fire Emblem Radiant Dawn. They're never that good in the rest of the series besides having 3 range compared to the standard bows' 2, but RD puts a -30% accuracy penalty on using them at 3 range which absolutely fucks them. Archers in general tend to be pretty mediocre in that series too.
>>2456310Are there any combat strategy games where powerful missile units aren't OP?
>>2462663How are you confidently spouting such bullshit? 10th and 11th centuries? Crécy was late 14th and Agincourt was 15th

>>2456310Dominions. They're the best archers (especially if you're not counting crossbowmen), but they still get cucked by anything with shields or air magic. In the middle age they at least have some use, as long as you're not up against someone with air magic, but in the late age where everything wears heavy armor and crossbows are easy to get for basically anyone they're lame as fuck.
>>2470393Wrong board, /vrpg/ boy.
>>2456310Empire Earth. they are treated as a mere support unit and get bodied by almost every melee and siege unit.

>>2470524The use case for longbows is for counter crossbows. Unless it LA agartha most crossbow men dont have heavy armor.
>>2456310The games where shorter bows on horseback run rings around them
They’re not all that great in FOG2 medieval, but that could just be user error on my part. They’re too clunky to use. Yes four or five volleys can distrupt a unit, but because your own troops can’t move through them (nor can the longbowmen run through your own lines when the enemy starts advancing), they kinda screw up your whole army cohesion. If they could move through units like light troops, they would be a nightmare. I’m not that great at the game though, so again could be user error.
