>thinking of giving age of mythology remake a try>can't be more than 1-5 gig innit?>mfw it's 35 gig
Still rookie numbers for how much space high quality textures and sounds can take.
>>2458342OP, people stopped using DVDs like 2 decades ago.
>>2458342model bloat and shitty optimization practices will do that
>>2458342You know what? I was thinking the same thing. My last playthrough was a huge disappointment, I hated everything. The music (how they ruined Chocolate Outline was criminal), the voice acting, the UI (dreadful). Nothing else but visuals improved. I want to know if someone who tried it recentely if they changed anything. Or any mods that can bring back the SOVL from the original?
Just play the original, for fuck's sake.
>>2461270I don't like the remastered visuals. Everything looks really washed out and hard to tell apart.
>>2458578It’s less being constrained by storage medium and more the quality and proficiency of developers has nosedived. Massive bloat in everything, and regression in functionality and quality.
>>2461433Getting really tired of these retards broadly yapping about optimization while dodging any specifics. The average texture in original aom is 128x, typical textures in modern games are between 2000x and 4000x, 20 times the size. This is what makes 3/4 of total game's sizes today. What do suggest devs do about it? Pretend like 2k and 4k monitors don't exist and make games for your 10 year old 1080p monitor? Reduce color palette and make game look cartoony. Save textures in jpg?
>>2463889Yes, most of it useless anyway. Especially in the case of AOM, because the old game looks graphically better than a more "detailed" remake. Neither do you need some uber mega graphics, because that is literally a bloat, as evidenced by indie games consistently rolling over any major studio in terms of making enjoyable games with graphics that keep using the pixel art.
Also, you are stright up lying, because graphics are nowhere near the biggest portion of the game´s size. It has been consistently proven that code of any modern big game is a shoddy mess, and that it is the code that makes up the biggest portion.
>>2461427>Everything looks really washed out and hard to tell apartThis man was never around for Extended Edition. That shit was an eyesore by default.
>>2468413Yeah extended edition was also really bad. I don't understand the developer intent here. It should take 30 seconds to look at this and think "wow this is hard to read"
>>2468413If the original had the shadows the demake has, it would be perfect
>>2458441Nah that shit chugs online.AoE2 DE suffers issues from it too I think because players pcs chug and then a desync happens. It's net code is on thin ice. But, it does mean no middlemen too which is kinda nice.
>>2458578Yeah and now they use phones with less space than dvds because HDDs and SSDs are prohibitively expensive now.Get with the time grandpa.>he thinks it's 2020 stillThis is the "new normal" they were talking about, where you can't afford anything because of scalpers and wholesale collusion.
>>2468413That AI rendering is so gross though. That's just a GPU thing though, not their fault.I can't believe people fell for this garbage GPU shit. It's so shitty.
>>2458342>>can't be more than 1-5 gig innit?lol this nigga is living in 2003!
>>2475150... and 2026 because I don't have space and can't afford a new drive.1TB SSD costs more than an entire pc 6 years ago now.A pc is about 3-4 times the price now for entry level gaming. No wonder games are not selling or being played at all (i.e. not pirated either).
