I've seen people comment how playing in China as the emperor is tiresome, but I enjoy micromanaging schemes and a trillion billion children from concubines. The interest won't last forever, obviously, but gradually improving the economy and securing political advantages is fun, even if grindy. I've started as Ostyaks in northern permafrost, became nomadic, and then, after several decades, took the Mandate of Heaven when China exploded. Converted to local culture and Taoism, initially wanted to hybridize with Han, but realised I'm only really interested in Chinese traditions, so I just went native.
I don't understand why the AI are so damn forgiving in this game, they should be executing or revoking titles en masse if they won a war against their own vassals or claimants, not ransom them off or release them for nothing at all. pic related>war of the nine pennyking>iron throne won>releases maely for some reason>few years later>nigga launched another rebellion>whocould'veseenthiscoming.jpgI don't think I have ever had this issue in CK2 at all, the AI was much more cruel and bloodthirsty.
>>2460104Maybe his personality affects his actions? Check the king's personality traits and character archetype under his name. idk I play the game episodically and didn't really pay attention to rebellions before. Maybe I'll watch them more closely next campaign.
>>2458764I have over 2,000 hours in CK2, but only a couple hundred in CK3.I could never really immerse myself in it in the same way. The only positive change I can note is it's interesting seeing characters grow old.But it's really apparent this is just sims medieval for roleplay girlies. Every single event is a novel about farting or other hyper-personalized character issues. I miss the straight and to the point nature of CK2 events, it seems they really lost sight of the fact that less is more. I had more fun headcanoning the personal relationship of my characters than actually being told that mittens had gotten into the supplies and I can either throw the cat out the castle (+25 stress!) or give her another turkey leg (-25 stress, gain "feline induced anorexia modifier)Also, CK2's simple and rudimentary sound effects and music are just better. CK3's jaunty design-by-committee "medievalcore" sounds and songs just don't cut it. I'm very aware I'm playing a game listening to them.
>>2458766wish the emperor got a palace domicile with extremely expensive upgrades
I forgot that I downloaded the base CK2 at some point, never have played a strategy game before so is it worth playing as-is or should I seek out a way to get the DLC?
>>2460483you should buy every dlc for moneyremember to pay for the games you play
>>2460483you can cream the dlc for easy, it's just acquiring the dlc files and the updated api
>>2460483Get the DLC. They are basically mandatory for Paradox games. I'd recommend creaming them like the other anon said. If you want to support the developer, buy them later.>never have played a strategy game beforeDLC are usually not 100% necessary for strategy games. It's just this developer that pumps them out one after another and puts essential game features into them.
>>2460309I like CK3 more at this point because there's just more tools at your disposal and if you know what you want, you have a clear path to getting it. Skill trees with clear-cut bonuses, the fabricate county claim being guaranteed and not "3.5% chance per year", things like that. There also were some features in CK2 that pissed me off. The most prominent was the guaranteed stressed or depressed trait from stewardship and business focuses which made them useless. Stressed also often turned into lunatic, which I fucking hated as a trait, probably more than anything in the game, and there was no way to remove it that was under your control besides praying to get a dog with the hunting focus or carousing, both of which, AGAIN, were tied to random chance. Also I'm not generally a roleplaying type of person, I play these as strategy games first and foremost. I'm not a minmaxer as in studying gigatables of men at arms to determine the best percentage bonuses or something, but I do play fairly optimally. I DO a little roleplaying, for example if I catch sight of some knight who turns out memorable for one reason or another, I might give him a fief when I conquer new lands. Also the general direction of the campaign, as in what goals I set for myself, has a degree of roleplay, like I've tried a Vandalic kingdom recreation with a Swabian adventurer recently. But other than that, I don't really even read the events. So all that's left are these pet peeves, of which CK3 has less. Also I turn off music and just put some rain sounds or pen writing asmr in the background so idk about that. Sound effects sound fine.
>>2460309>>2460530CK3 has been better overall since around AUH. It was already comparable and impressive enough by RtP. No other game quite fulfills the hybrid niche of character roleplaying, grand strategy and intergenerational storylines like it.
Realistically, how much can i learn if i binge watch playthroughs, guides and campaigns and play at the same time, in 20 days? I'm talking about occupying myself for 8-10 hours a day with CK3
>>2462177You’ll learn it a day bro it’s easy to pick up
>>2462177It depends on if you have a plan and do good experimentation or just mess around doing random bullshit. I'd recommend getting into the game rather than watching one billion trillion guides, besides some basics, and just inspect every element you come across carefully, searching up questions you find yourself asking, e.g. you're struggling with gaining prestige so you google "how to farm prestige", things like that. But yeah, like the other anon said the game is easy to pick up, and if you manage to put in 160 hours in 20 days, I think you can learn a lot. Like all paraxod games (that I played) it appears complex on the surface when you're new, but once you grasp the mechanics you can become unstoppable 200 years into the campaign unless you handicap yourself for a challenge or roleplay.I'm interested though, do you have a goal you're working towards for you to invest this much time into the game? I've seen anons on this and other boards making some fuckhueg plans with a month to a year worth of time investment without understanding their attention span and ability to handle consistent workload, and it's always funny hearing reasons for their schizo ideas.
>>2462204cool>>2462334There is honestly so much i want to do in this game, i'm not aiming to "win" or do a wc, i just want to know how the different systems act between them, i already have 280 hours on the game but i feel i barely scratched the surface on what it has to offer. I want to play as so many characters i can't even list you them. I just want to be fluent in this game and be able to have a deep conversation about it in the forums or on discord(please no bully). I feel like i haven't delved deeply into the game yet, and i only played easy characters. I want to try my luck with more advanced characters and what i mainly like to do it play on character like 3-4 times improving my playthrough again and again. I don't know if that sounded as rambling/yapping, i'm tired and took my meds and i'm drowsy as hell.
>>2462348Why would you impose this strict system on yourself then? If you're a NEET, playing 8-10 hours a day with the aim of getting better is nearly the same as working a full-time job (if you do actually put in the effort). Just enjoy it at your own pace, anon. No need to rush. And there's certainly no deep conversation to be had about it lol. This is not to say that you shouldn't play a lot if your health and free time allow it, but... it's just a game, dude.
>>2462177just play the game retard, it's literally dumbed down for idiots like you
>>2462204>>2462479Kek I remember playing CK3 for the first time after finally leaving behind CK2. I went in completely blind and chose William the Conqueror because I thought I might lose the war for England without knowing how war worked but would still have an interesting playthrough as the Duke of Normandy. I started the game, raised my levies, right clicked on London, turned on either speed 4 or 5, and within 1 minute I was the King of England lmao.

There needs to be more flavor for Europe in this game. I'll bet they'll add a nigger dlc before they add Poland and Hungary content.
>>2462509I mean, they are doing republics soon, you you get venetian niggers
>>2462348>i already have 280 hours on the game but i feel i barely scratched the surface on what it has to offer.I have 299 hours and I feel like I've mastered the game. Its insanely simple compared to eu4.
>>2462510The DLC will be trash unless they add Novgorod and Peasant Republics (Friesland, Dithmarschen)
>>2462348Not to sound cheesy but CK is more about the journey than the destination. Things will go unexpectedly in the best and worst ways and it's the one PDX series where ironman is an actual necessity. You're overthinking it rather than just experiencing it.
>>2462371I'm probably taking this very seriously>>2462520>You're overthinking it rather than just experiencing itthis is so true
>>2462518Poljica was the most sucessfull peasant republic and they cut them from EU5 so we wont be seeing them in Ck3 either
>>2458764Is CK3 worth playing yet?
The limitations of an old PC have reached me. When I open the celestial government tab playing as the Chinese hegemon, the game starts freezing every 2 seconds. So it's 2 sec normal - 2 sec freeze, can't do anything - 2 sec normal - 2 sec freeze. The rest of the game runs smoothly enough, but this shit makes it really hard to keep track of high-merit relatives that need promotions and some other stuff. No idea how to fix this. Maybe I should start a new campaign and purge all mods, but I don't think that will change much, this is a core game mechanic fuckup.>>2462684Yes, it's alright. No idea if it's worth the price though, I'm playing pirated.
I’m slowly collecting DLC until the Church one is out.
>>2462509OK but Africa is actually kind of barren they don't even have a proper hegemony. China received more content and attention in just one expansion that also introduced it.
They should do a DLC for Hungary to satisfy both Westerner and Easterner
>>2460104More historically accurate. Murdering enemy noble prisoners was more of a greek barbarian thing.
>>2462993Ethopia is likely to get content in the upcoming Christian DLC.North Africa and the rest of East Africa are likely to get content in the inevitable Islam Rework DLC.West Africa is genuinely irrelevant right now. There's little reason for them to even be on the map, it's not like you can invade across the Sahara Desert. It was sparsely populated, not having advanced agricultural inovations like the plow. All of the proported empires were more akin to Mesopotamian and Mesoamerican city state suzerainties than what is currently shown. Honestly a secular military Mandala government form would be more accurate. Though this theoretical government would only be within a small region of west africa, same size as the Caraligian Empire though sparse like Arabia. The rest is completely irrelevant tribal land. Neither dynastic nor centralized. Whether or not there should be polities there is debatable.Hopefully, in the new trade DLC, gold will no longer come and go from the ether and give gold mines a reason to exist and thus West Africa. Also hopefully they model that you can't transport perishable goods hundreds of miles through deserts.

If you use the culture expanded mod they balkanize the anglo-saxon culture so that you can unite them through a decision. This decision is bugged and you and the ai can spam it wich will result in the anglo-saxon culture having no cultural traditions. This reflects the irl behaviour of anglos having no culture of their own. Is there a fix for this ingame?

>>2463292They did the bare minimum to populate the history files, so anytime they want to expand the timeline. They have to create everything wholecloth.I would've personally perfered they'd instead chosen the 10 year earlier start so we can murder Cenware before he tries anything.

>>2463969Yeah, CK2 is way too limited, unfortunately. It would be perfect if it had naval battles and actual sea travel, not just a click and boom, teleported in the blink of an eye. If Paradox ever gets real about naval battles and sea transport, these mods and others would actually be fun to play. Everyone just walking on water makes no sense at all, it doesn't fit with the vastness of oceans and rivers.

>>2464030>>2464083>Another function is having a metropolis gives for example flat urban tax and maritime tax bonuses while decreasing hinterland(farm) tax. Therefore something like tradeport which is what gives maritime tax harmonizes better with large settlement sizes as opposed to more rural buildings like farms which goes with smaller settlements.>You can still have farms and villages in big holdings but they're less effective, and they may actively reduce settlement size while other buildings increase it. Low settlement size can be good for getting food etc to the main holding.Pretty interesting but -10% tax for farming in a metropolis feels way too lenient.

>>2464210All of the starting conquerers are more or less unbeatable. However if killed, their empires disintegrate pretty quickly and are easy to grab land off of afterwards. The devs don't like the Aversarians so Cenware has a stupid amount of scheme and spell resistance.
>>2464083>>2464094This looks infinitely more practical than EUV while still fulfilling the overall simulation aspect
>>2464210Play as one of the conquerors, guys in Chevalie or Amsari. Aversarians are technically playable, but you'll have to surrender yourself to Cenware with a fraction of your territory and wait for Imperrech to dissolve so you can go conquer stuff, or play as one of the Eastern Aversarians who can build up to the invasion somewhat. You can beat Cenware but it takes either exploiting his AI or getting good MAAs. You can also just roll up with a powerful magical character and try killing him by stacking buffs from your spells.

How is CK3? I didn't bother playing it too much since learning another game after putting so much time into 2 felt like a pain in the ass.

>>2464661CK2's UI was indeed more artistic but also aged poorly. There's a practical reason why CK3's UI is bland but legible.
Started as an Oghuz Turkic nomad with the intent of forming the Persian Empire and emulating Seljuks as a ruling caste of Turks in a Persian realm, maybe even conquering the entire Middle East. I'm planning to form a hybrid culture as well.Should I convert to Islam or revive Zoroastrianism? I can't decide, both sound like cool ideas for the rp I have in mind.
Next RICE update is going to be about the Zutt btw
China is fun but I wish keeping the dynastic cycle stable wasn't so easy. A human player with even half a brain can stop their dynasty from collapsing pretty much indefinitely. Every time you manage to restabilize a tension era, there should be a stacking modifier that makes "good" catalysts smaller and "bad" catalysts bigger so it'll eventually become unfeasible to hold everything together
>>2464929Zoroastrianism is better since it makes it easier to centralize as well as place your family as vassals. Islam has too much infighting
>>2464945>A human [...] can stop their dynasty from collapsing pretty much indefinitely.Well now we know why China collapsed so many times.
>>2464936>formed from Jeet migrants to the Middle East
>>2463263Any mod that is woke can be modded to be chud. There was a submod for Elder Kangs about the rise and fall of empires where the amount of faggot characters added to the decadence of your empire or some shit and it caused so much seething from the tranny devs that they purposefully went out of their way to break it in the next update.
>>2464401no pops, not playingsimple as
>>2465006I don’t care if they ever add POPs but I would like a way to simulate minority religions or diverse counties at least.Maybe the inevitable jeet expansion can add it since there were many areas of India that were more religiously diverse than is depicted in game.
>>2465009I tried that mod that adds fractions of different cultures and religions to countries, it was pretty cool, but unbalanced as shit.Nations either instantly converted all their minorities or never ever converted any minorities, depending on which game rules you used.I tried it out as Spain and the entire peninsula was still brown people 200 years after I'd reconquista'd it.
>>2465012>I tried it out as Spain and the entire peninsula was still brown people 200 years after I'd reconquista'd it.it's still brown people 600 years after the reconquista in real life
>>2465005Decadence went up from exposed sin or crime traits, plus other stuff like child rulers. On default settings, most faiths don't criminalize homosexuality, so you're not penalized. This got telephoned into sodomy trait causes decadence (if you deliberately create a custom faith where homosexuality's criminalized or follow one faith out in High Rock IIRC) -> submod creator's a homophobe.
>>2464994Thanks for the input. A friend of mine also suggested Zoroastrianism when I asked, and after some thought I found it was more appealing to me as well, so I'll go with that. I'm not really worried about mechanics, this was a roleplaying type of question, like what sounds more exciting to anons and why.
>>2465477Zoroastrians have little flavour. Their main gimick is incest. Technically meta if you don't care about alliances. As with the blood dynasty perks you're almost guarenteed good congenital traits after a few generations. The inbreeding doesn't matter as long as you get Pure-blooded before Inbred. For the tier 4 blood dynasty perk, Fecund is the best option as all of the leveled congenital traits usually just stepdown a tier in inheritance and don't just disapear. Especially with incest. You should ideally have a few blood legacy perks before going all in on incest as it effectively decreases the inbreeding coefficient, though as above, it does not mater once you get Pure-blooded.Once you have an heir eligable for Strengthen Bloodline you should seek for them to inherit as soon as possible as it has no age requirement and quintuples the chance for Pure-blooded and not going down the Inbred deathspiral. If that doesn't sound apealing, just remember, there is more Persian content locked behind being Muslim than Zoroastrian.

>>2466310How do you have so much money?
>>2466326I only play for a few hours every now and then, taking breaks for a few days when I'm busy with some stuff or when I feel like playing something else. On top of it I autistically micromanage a lot of stuff so I'm constantly pausing. Before I realize it's been hours and I barely played through 5 years in-game.In this run in particular I micromanaged more than usual in order to raid intelligently, survive and build myself up from a single country tribal ruler because nomads are terrifying.>>2466332>How do you have so much money?RAIDING!But not simply raiding random targets mindlessly. After surviving the early game, building up a sizeable demesne and retinue of mostly light infantry, which is very weak but great for raiding due to being cheap and numerous, I was basically micromanaging raids 24/7 whenever I wasn't in war.I raided everyone bordering me while scanning for tribal or nomad potential targets within a reasonable distance in Eastern Europe and the Pontic Steppe that I could raid for prisoners. This may seem counter-intuitive as nomads are very dangerous but they make great targets for raids. They usually have lots of gold because they themselves raid frequently and also because when a new khan or khagan rises they spawn with a substantial amount of gold so it's not rare to see nomad rulers with several hundred bucks. Their yurts are very lightly defended, normally about 200 men strong and can be easily stormed and razed by 700~800 light infantry with little losses. Khans tend to have lots of children and pay big ransoms for these children, 75 for girls and 110 for boys. If you scan regularly you'll find prime targets quite often. The trick is knowing when and how to go in, raze and get out without having your troops annihilated by their horde troops. Sometimes they are out raiding so you have an opportunity, others they'll stand still in their capitals so you'll have to wait or pull some tactical maneuvers to bait their troops out.
>>2466345>>2466332Furthermore, when you get to rank 2 in a warrior society, you get this modifier that increases your chances of capturing prisoners when your ruler is leading the attack. It's great to capture entire families.Another thing that I did to make serious bank was to use the old imprison & banish on courtiers with substantial amounts of money that somehow ended up in my court. This is easy to abuse and exploit by inviting courtiers with money from all over solely to imprison and banish them, reloading if they escape. I did this in a previous run which I ended up dropping because it took the fun out of the game for me.My rationalization for why it's different here is that:>I don't scan nor invite courtiers with lots of money to steal from them>I don't just imprison them with tyranny, only through valid reasons or intrigue>I don't savescum, if they flee then they fleeSome people might still consider it gamey and cheap but to me it's alright if it's like this because I'm only doing it to characters that end up in my realm through the randomness and events of the game, I use intrigue therefore engaging with the mechanics probably in a similar manner to what rulers did in real life to confiscate from wealthy people and I do not reset the game ever. From my 30k gold, about 24 or so were from raiding and only 6 or less were from stealing courtiers I think.
>>2466345>>2466348I see. That makes sense. Thank you. Another question: when should I go feudal?
>>2466349>when should I go feudal? When you have acquired a decent demesne, developed your intended capital using prestige and have enough money saved to build up the castles and pay mercenaries while you're vulnerable from your levy size drastically decreasing. If you're going for a very large empire like I am in this run it's also advisable to have your vassals happy with you and with Stone Hillforts in their capitals too so that they can go feudal together with you. Otherwise they might stay tribal, hate you even more for being a different government type and take the opportunity to revolt.
>>2463263Seriously though, is it woke or nah?
>>2466327But why? After BGA and S&S releases, CK2 won't have anything else besides basically just societies. While CK2 wrapped up after six years, CK3 is setup for at least a decade of updates.

>>2468323The LOTR mod decided to double the map size with noncannonical bloat after AUH. From testing. When the game loads it will use 14 gigs of memory just in loading, regardless of your graphics settings, loading all art assets like it's set to high. However, when you change the graphics midgame to medium or low, it will unload the high quality assets and just have what it needs loaded.Going to low lowers the memory footprint to 1g, going to medium lowers it to 2gs.I don't know why it doesn't respect graphics settings on gamestart. It will basically be a second, slightly shorter game load though, it took 2ish minutes for the game to start responding after hitting ok, takes about 5 minutes for the game to load. Will probably take 10-15 minutes for you. This probably needs an urgent bug report as it is responsible for the long load times. But Paradox doesn't read them anyways....
I really took HiP for granted, one installer for everything while in 3 I need to make sure 100 different mods are working fine together
CK2 boomers still playing the game, what campaigns/mods are you guys playing? I recently found Archi's Vanilla Expansion which seems pretty neat so far, but I haven't done a long run in it yet.
Is there a way to prevent CK3 from crashing when I attempt to change graphics settings? Even deleting all files and reinstalling hasn’t helped.
I heard that the EK2 update sucks and they fucked the lore immensely. Is it really that bad?
>>2468808I noticed that every single mod or community run by trannies INEVITABLY produces drama or scandal at some point in its life, sometimes even more than once, that leads to the fracturing of said mod or community. This is why literally every single ancient civilization warned against giving eunuchs power.
>>2468808I think it's fine other than Systres unfortunately still lacking a unique culture IIRC, though I say that as someone who didn't give a flying fuck about their existence prior to that change. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if most of the blowup in relation to that was from people who also did not give a flying fuck about the Systres and simply wanted an excuse to shit on the lolcows, or had an ax to grind from being too retarded to interpret outlawing adultery as a means to outlaw gay buttsex to circumvent faith restrictions the mod has had since release. That and if you don't like female vassals turning into hagravens it might be hard to enjoy the Witchman faith in the cool little valley they made.
>finally amass enough gold and mercenaries to press my two claims on my liege and win the war before our liege can enforce realm peace>the net result is that i don't get one of the territories despite having a strong claim on it and tanistry succession is removed from my old barony so now my new holdings will be split up three waysreeeeeeeeeeeeeee

>>2469000>what mostsly annoyed me so far is that they removed imperial ruler from gideon which could be interesting remnant of imperial rule in black marsh and just put yet another random argonian thereI assume you didn't mean one of the Lizards, cause Koth is held by a Silver Peter Eater in both start dates.I did think the Gideon guy was more interesting too now that you mention it, though admittedly I know diddly shit about ESO.>>2469001I know it doesn't speak to how Hlaalu is currently, but I saw this happen last run before deleting the save. I thought it was neat. Indoril ate them pretty quickly the game prior. Not sure what happened there. The capital was already fully drifted too, probably some coronation shit, think I'm going to turn coronations off in light of that.
>>2469064is house hlaalu/their culture guy a ruler though? to me looks like redorans conquered them and made hlaalu as primary title
>>2469064>gideonhe was imperial, nothing really special but made gideon bit more interesting than argonian, now there isn't really any playable empire remnant there as there is only one very shitty republic leftalso temple in gideon was dibellasomething, I don't know if it's still a thing but it was a neat colony of cyrodilic culture
Speaking of EK2 I wish they made 3 Era startdate especially since hegemonies exist. Maybe all those new gov types would also helpmy dream is project tamriel version of continent though
>>2469000oh yeah I have also remembered they removed ESO theocracy near leyawiin and just left random feudal dukes in their place, ass since I love playing in that region
>>2469067IDK what to expect from it other than map+province adjustments but one of the devs did seem interested in doing map work on Argonia in the future. I was a little scared they'd push the update even further back to cover it, but they didn't apparently. Maybe they'll take a second look at Gideon when they do, it'd be nice.

>>2469627Don't they only split holdings if there's no counties to split?

promise of grand wedding these days doesnt have any influence on marriage proposal, whats up with that
One of the funniest ideas i've had for this game is starting as an adventurer, creating your own religion, that turns out (i've learned after 2k hours in the game), you can do without settling, religion that has polyamory in its tenants, convert other rulers in to it and then seduce with their wives, openly without an issue. Can you imagine this happening irl, you go around convincing people to join your religion, which entire purpose is give you their wife.
>>2470115ain't that just islam?
>>2469803>Also, is internal governance as an Islamic nation different from a Christian one in CK3?Not a lot. Succession is determined by house unity and tax collectors are just grouping large numbers of vassals under one contractViziers are fun, you can get a good amount of domain limit/taxes if you've a skilled, landless courtier (they will never have the ability to coup you because power fantasies)
>>2470041It still does for me. Your game is either bugged or modded.

>>2470156It's actually more accurate to Mormonism and Joseph Smith
>>2470279Based.>>2470281They still didn't fix that shit? Been thinking about getting back into this game for a while and really thought that'd be patched out by now.
Hey Paradox employee, I know you browse here.Idea: make a grand strategy game but based in some cyberpunk dystopian Earth 1000 years from now or something.Trust me, it'll do well.
>>2469069I think a 4th era start date after the great war would be more interesting.
>steam downloaded files for multiple mods that didn't actually update today, like 30mb at leastaight
>>2470283>They still didn't fix that shit?No but it's an endearing enough funny oversight. They could probably fix it by adding regional and clerical weighting. As it stands all other courts have little chance of winning the grandeur race against a Chinese hegemony which gets further vectored by the Mongols.
Can you cannibalize a prisoner during a feast somehow?
>>2464401EU isn’t meant to be practical, it’s meant to be engrossing. CK2’s republic implementation sucked ass, and I’m not holding out much hope for CK3>>2465012The issue is that you just have to wait a few years to fully convert a county to your rule. Instead of the far better CK2 implementation that was only a probability of converting a county depending on your chaplains learning. Not sure why the devs chose to make such an obvious downgrade for that specific bit of game design.
>>2470316That's just Stellaris

Oh, and I picked up a greek wife and a french marshal at some point. At least the fat bastard I started with is still alive, if he hadn't married a woman in her fifties I'd have found him a great wife to start a dynasty with
>>2471399that's why I hate adventurers, it was supposed to be harder start than count but it could be like starting as a king
Legitimacy is such a nothing mechanic
>>2471450I think the part that annoys me most is how blatantly better some of the jobs are to do. Boundary disputes, create work of learning, transcribe texts (IF you've got good learning), stand with us (if you have a lockwagon), hunt criminals, literally all the transport jobs, and the rustle animals? Literal no brainers, pay fuckloads and almost all of them give prestige. Everything else? Not remotely worth the effort - shit rewards and they take an age. Also, if you want free money you can just steal from a church collection box over and over again, if you have good intrigue and are willing to savescum a bit. You can max out blademaster and the wit line of Hastiluder as well if you have good money and only pick the ones that give large xp bonuses, just leave and come back the same day if its too low, it resets everytime.
>raise and educate a son>give them a county>still takes a scheme to befriend themI dont get why it takes a full scheme
>>2471491You can chain scheming contracts with roaming and one-off contracts like escorting, boundary disputes, and hunt criminals. It require moving your camp into the barony where the contract scheme takes place. Because you are not counted as traveling, you can freely take another contract as long as it does not require scheming. By the way, prowess is a wasted attribute specialty. You can simply purchase weapons and armor in cities, which combined usually give +15 prowess anyway.
>>2471511weapons giving prowess like that is most retarded thingso what if I don't have a sword equipped my roman emperor goes into fight barehanded?
>>2471505Because they expect a county and tend to want to usurp.

>>2471399To be fair, adventuring was intended to be a transitional gameplay layer between landed ruling gameplay. Paradox themselves admitted they didn't expect it to become the most popular way to play. They're pretty likely to be retouching it by incorporating it into the base game.

I'm a count (with 4 counties that I just conquered, but still) and somehow I can marry my literally who daughter to the King of France??? What was paradox smoking?
>>2472067looks like he really likes you3 has same problem where legitimacy makes everyone suck your dick and 1 county count can marry his borther to daughter of king of lotharingia on top of all other legitimacy issues like everyone being happy to become your vassal, I don't know what they were thinking adding it, it's hard to lower it, usually you need to do it on purpose and it just wins the game for you
>pawn off three useless sons for alliances>fourth son is gay but whatever it'll be fine>make him favoured child and co-monarch>selfless co-monarch all going well>give him a good wife and grand wedding>he immediately starts scheming to kill heris it because hes gay?

>>2469912>It happened one day, under a bright cloudless sky: five balls of light appeared atop the White-Gold Tower. The city guards and legionnaires all gazed up with nervous apprehension, and the Imperial dragons spread their wings and bore their teeth taking up defensive positions. The Emperor came out to speak with them, and they took the form of five elders, who walked with him into the tower’s highest chambers to present their petitions. No one, save the Emperors themselves, know what specifically was said, then, but when the conversation concluded the Emperor took to his court with an ebon-parchment concordat. This agreement ceded five Ayleid citadels to the five elders, for they were the descendants of the five good traitors.
>>2472067Makes perfect sense. It is preferable to marry someone from minor house than bigger one, because it just give the big ones dvdn more power. Especially, for young ruler it is better. Have been quite common in history.
>>2472142Plutach speaks of this.
I wish there was a building that allowed you to make a fence around an entire province, made entirely out of pagan skulls that disables raiding against you. Fuck every chieftain in Europe trying his luck against my cities every other month of the game, despite my armies being able to crush them.

>>2472485Forgot to say CK2
>>2472354All they need to add is province modifiers to show which minorities are present. Then events and random courtiers in the realm will adjust accordingly.
>>2472354then you need to diverge norse and add ruling caste

Watching EK2 devs rape their mod to death is hard to watch tbqh. Was probably one of my fav mods and actually got me back into playing Elder Scrolls again.
>>2472715it should get unraping mods though? main problem now is the glacial speed of updates, they just update it week before dlc makes it not work for months againnow if they would add akavir and shit like that EK1 had, then yeah it's raped
>>2468529Started a game as the goths in crimea during the fall of rome start, conquered the nearby steppe nomads surprisingly easy, reformed the bosporan kingdom, got a free army spawn, but the decision basically forces you to feudalize because your cap turns into a castle instead of tribe. Needs more flavor, but it's interesting so far.
>>2472740My longest run so far has been a merchant republic in Sardinia and Corsica, I'm swimming in money at the moment but I'm at the stage where you suddenly realize you almost have no heirs because despite marrying off all your relatives they produce fuck all in terms of children except some weird pagan part of the branch. Dynastic management can be such a pain in the dick.
>>2472715It's over since they purity spiraled their own veteran modders, the reason why their team is smaller than most other Paradox total conversion mod teams.

>>2472733>now if they would add akavir and shit like that EK1 had, then yeah it's rapedThey did the reverse of this by making the Akaviri Potentate... no longer Akaviri. Despite him being Asian and literally having golden skin he's as Cyrodiilic as the rest of us chud. Speaking of Cyrodiil they also removed the Heartlander culture (the culture of the Imperial City)
>>2472820I recall that heartlander is an EK invention anyway and IC should be nibenean
>>2472789I think it's per rite? so you can have your slavic catholicism and not have your holy sites in spain and england
>>2472822Yeah, it was a dumb decision back then to make them a separate culture imo. Nibenay entire shtick is being the Imperial Heartland, like Cyrodill cities other than the Imperial City are either Colovian or bordertowns populated by neighboring races.
Look at this lil' guy
Turko-Persian run is going well. Already converted to Zoroastrianism, invaded Persia and created a hybrid culture. Money was a problem during the initial stages of resettlement because I kept the nomadic Tarkhan, Cataphract Archers and Heavy Horse Archers MAAs which cost a ton, but now that I've captured vast lands, it should balance itself out. I had 13k in reserve from the herd and domicile building conversion which carried me through that stage. Luckily, Abbasids fractured just as I was invading them, which simplified the Persian conquest.
>conquer province>can't build shit because local savages dont have the techshouldn't my people be able to build shit they've unlocked?why do a bunch of savages need stone forts for me to build a castle in the province as a french king
>>2473394Because PDX forgot to implement differentiation between culture of overlords and commoners, despite those being often different. Castles would be built by the overlords, but then there are local buildings which would be dependant on culture of commoners like Caravansarays. It once again comes to the fact that PDX tried to appeal to normalfags and simplify the game instead of adding more depth.
>>2473414It was a balancing decision to try to limit one high dev county culture with all the innovations from being overpowered. Also to discourage conquering tribals and nomads or the reverse.Buildings are getting reworked so this might get fixed.
I hope you get a crack at renaming your Rite if you go solo in the CK3 DLC, it'd be stupid to still be called X Rite when you're not, in fact, a Rite anymore
>>2472354>>2472351shut up retardsthe game is already getting as bloated as eu5, im just waiting for them to nerf all arcade elements in to the ground to make it equally unplayable

i just played ck2 for the first time and i united the kingdom of ireland before my first guy even died. everybody loves me, too, and i guess i have clear shots at wales and scotland. wtf? even in hoi4 i had to crash and burn a couple times to figure it out. i didn't even have to mess with plots or marrying into titles like everyone kept talking about online. is ck2 really this easy? what do you even do with it then, besides trying to blob with ever shittier starts?
>>2473706>beat the game on the tutorial irelandCongratulations, that's why it's recommended as the starting choice. But yes, CK2 is very easy and once you learn a few tricks it'll only become easier, there's a reason why everyone and their mother was posting pictures of their Roman Empire world conquest a few years back when CK2 was the main title for casual Paradox fans. The only way you're going to lose in this game is through bad luck. Still, people enjoy the zero to hero journey and thanks to all the DLC mechanics that have been added over the years you can do some pretty crazy stuff in the game.
>>2473553Elderly health traits were objectively the correct decision.

>>2473553Lifespan bonuses are useless as elder traits don't account for them and will kill you faster than the base health decreases. It was a miracle that Admin was backported treasury however poorly implimented it was.>>2472354We already got our one culture rework in Royal Court. It sucked but thus far there have been no repeat reworks or additions especially for DLC content. It's not going to get reworked until every part of base game has been revamped and sold as DLC.I would personally like like ethnicities, innovations, languages, and traditions to act like cultures do right now, and cultures instead descibing the combination. They're already doing something similar with religion, but again, more DLC...

You can try starting as a one province French/German count if you'd like, but it's mostly just a waiting game until you have enough money for mercs and enough claims to push to become a duke, and then you eat the realm from the inside until you're more powerful than your liege.

Last time i played was starting campign as vassal of France. I eventually ended ruling large Empire in the west and realized they had make it so that as big empire your enemues wont declare war on you but aginst your vassals and you wont defend them automatically. I got pissed off because of that so i stopped playing and havent touched the game since. Is that system still like that and if it is so, is there mods that fix that back to how it was before?

>>2476257That's never been the case. You've always had to declare war on the top level liege if someone you have a CB against is a vassal of someone. If you're talking about tributary states then I've no idea how they work.

>CK2playing a mp game, set myself up as king of Scotland as a Norse pagan. Somehow my heir ended up being a Catholic, so it's time to settle downMy question is, should I convert to Scottish with their pike retinues, or stay Norse so I can raid non-christians?
new play through in a region I've not done before. Do I try to Christianise North Africa as Berbers and turn the people there white?Or form Carpathia starting as a Vlach/Magyar/Avar count?

I am glad they are finally giving Christianity some goddamn focus. That said this is going to be a lot of hullabaloo, full on CBs over... the right to fire and pick your own realm priest... big whoop in terms of actual gameplay unless you play theo yourself. If PDX were better at the RPG they want the game to be it could produce some kino intrigue and drama but I know it won't.Still, good direction for the game.

I'm considering having another attempt at getting into CK2 (with all DLC this time). I know you're supposed to learn the game by playing Ireland, but what are some goals I can try shooting for besides uniting the island? Also, do I just pick any tutorial from YouTube to follow, or is there a specific one that's considered the gold standard like how there's one for Vic2?
>>2477565Forming Britannia is the next logical step, just unite Ireland then go for Wales or Scotland next and finish up with England until you can form the Empire title. I can't think of many other goals besides that, unless you specifically want to play tall and limit your expansion there's not a whole lot to do in CK2 except keep expanding, which will become progressively easier. I guess you could try to make sure that at least one crusade is successful, and play around with royal marriages until at least one relative has a claim on a kingdom that you claim for them? If you want to learn how to play the game then you just need to learn the fundamentals better, lasting through 5 successions and figuring out where to go after ending up with a dogshit heir out of nowhere is more important than 'learning' remote naval deployment for crusades. Just learn basic gameplay loops like:>getting CBs, expanding, consolidating power in new lands>practicing eugenics by marrying good traits (quick, genius, strong, attractive) >keeping vassals happy and successions stableOne other really important thing is to just get a hang of traits, event and how they correlate. The Way of Life DLC is extra important in this regard, it's a really easy way of getting some extra stat bonuses but each focus also has a slew of events that will reliably fire when you have the focus active. Some of them are good, some of them are bad, and memorizing what you get from what focus is a really powerful way to build up your character - hunting is a great way to stay healthy (the focus gives +1 health, it will fire an event giving you a hunting dog which also gives +1 health and it will also very reliably remove the Stressed trait which gives a health penalty), Business can make you a lot of cash but you will almost certainly also get Stressed, and maybe Greedy and Deceitful. Theology will print piety, remove vices and give you virtues, it's super OP for Catholics since it will make the Pope love you
>start out ivar boneless>do invasion hopping to get to india>convert to sunni, get a couple islam-related achievements>next goal is to convert to buddhism and unite india>i'll invade deccan while still sunni and then immediately convert for covenience>forget sunni has the shit invasion that not only doesn't directly conquer every holding you occupy, it doesn't even grant you land outside of the kingdom goal.>wasted like 20 in-game years>uber-pissing off every single one of my vassals>still need to revoke everything>only took a single chunk out of deccani am going to mald
>>2477565If you're not willing to take the plunge and upgrade to CK3, then probably your end game for Ireland is forming Britannia. I like conquering Ireland as the Norman-English in CK3, colonising the island then using it as a springboards for the Crusades myself.
>>2477565where are the trees?

>>2477666Thanks for the advice, Mr. Satan.>>2477740>not willing to take the plunge and upgrade to CK3Currently I have no plans to play CK3 for the same reason I had no plans to play CK2 about a decade ago, which is that I don't feel like keeping up with a game that's constantly getting fundamental changes through new DLC every few months. CK2 is a finished game so I can take my time with learning it, as opposed to CK3 which will be changing too fast for how often I play vidya in general.
>>2478075>Thanks for the advice, Mr. Satan. No problem, happy to answer any other questions in the thread or give you some more tips if you don't want to figure out shit on your own.
