>2026
>Grand Campaign / Imperator Augustus campaign are still shit
>Carthage (GC) is even more shit
>graphics look terrible, even if you have a good PC and HD mods
>only 4 interesting factions of ALL that exist and consoom your life time by the endless turn passes (Roma, Baktria, Makedon, Massilia)
>boring ugly barbarians (non-grecorromans, even the punics)
>cities with no walls, awful province design, distribution and extension
>cities changed according to "culture" into marbleholes or (lit) shitholes
>both, campaing and battle, movements still are bugged or just don't work at all
>lit. same battle maps, all battles feel repetitive
>"Groundhog Day" with tech trees, buildings and "rpg" (useless, boring, unneccesary, time-wasting... family tree, politics, character skills, etc.)
What was the point of creating this game?
Why didn't they do a Rome Remaster Plus?
What is the point that a Rome Remastered if R2 still unfinished and bugged, and R1 still playable (with good graphic and overhaul mods) IN 2026?
>>
File: One drop rule.jpg (197 KB, 1366x768)

Even overhaul mods like 'Bronze Age' still are bugged, boring af and also ugly, and for some reason the female members of your white/ish family are blacks.

You can't get rid of the blacks even in the Dark Ages mod ('Medieval 1100 AD').

Talking again about the "culture" crap, other factions that belong to YOUR SAME cultural group have "cultural aversion" for some unknown reason (it's not explained).

Ofc, there is a random (((merchant tribe))) in your empire for some unknown reason despite not having territories in the Levant, and somehow they get free provinces that YOU, not them, conquered.

At least the representation of the (((tribe))) is accurate, but, AGAIN, there are no real consequences in the gameplay, in the evolution of the campaign.

Also, doors still are bugged. If an enemy unit pass closer to their doors, they are opened for them, but you can NOT pass for some unknown reason.

Also, celtic females are brown, even in Jutland, why? Idk.
This could explain why they live in shitholes and turn cities into shitholes.

Another awful thing, the names of the armies
>picrel, "The Terror of Phobos"

Who scripted this shit? Not even the names make sense nor are cool. NOT EVEN THAT.
>>
File: Useless events.jpg (331 KB, 1366x768)
331 KB JPG
More Paradox-like useless bugged slop, the events, the SPAM of events (the worst thing is the sound of the spam).
The event of picrel is bugged because the city was secured and prosperous, there was no enemy there, not even in the near provinces.
Last time I checked, there was NO mod to avoid them. This game is one of the worst I played, it literally has no redemption, CA will just find another way to make it even worst, somehow.

rome II was the start of modern TW and the downfall of the franchise.

The only true bad part about this game are naval batlles its just broken

OP doesn't even mention the biggest issue with Rome 2 (and all other games based on Rome 2's engine like the Warhammer games); The complete and total assassination of any semblance of strategic gameplay through a combination of:
>High replenishment
>Replenishment over end turn
>Recruit while moving
>Lenient auto-resolve
>Absurdly high morale and Army losses mechanic making every battle a stat-check because morale shock is rendered completely useless.
In these games you just auto-resolve everything to death and every manual battle you have to take is gonna be only after exhausting every possibility and jumping through every hoop to hopefully turn it into an auto-resolve instead.

THIS.

Imagine if CA unified both maps, campaign and battle, so in real time (fuck turns) you move your armies and build cities around the ancient world, see how your citizens and soldiers live and die. The mouse wheel would be used to zoom the map in and out.
>>
>>2459483
>>cities with no walls, awful province design, distribution and extension
are there really people who miss the rome1 and med2 endless siege battles (who you always won because the AI just walked head first into the V formation you put at the gate)
>>
>>2460403
Well, the point of this franchise is the combats. Also, even in those games it gets a little tiredsome, there is fun, unlike in modern games with their endless micromanagement in both battle and campaign maps.
>>
I'm playing the Seleucid campaign and while expanding my empire, I figured out too late (around turn 25) that I had to manually wed family members to begin a family and create offspring.
Out of 7 members (youngest being 38), only 2 had children, 1 died in childhood.
I now have 1 girl of 15 years old, left, carrying the future of a dynasty.
Can I still recover from my mistake or is the family doomed?
Could I increase my chances to have the girl have at least 3-4 children?
>>
>>2460057
>Recruit while moving
what is the deal with this?
I hate having to consider loss of movement as before building my army
I remember from Rome 1, my elephants could break down gates in smaller settlements, It appears It doesn't work for R2 anymore, can anyone confirm?
>>
>>2460830
Removing walls doesn't remove combat. You still have to fight the garrison.
>Micromanagement
I am pretty sure R1 and M2 had a lot more micromanagement on the campaign map due to how buildings worked.
>>
>>2460057
>>Absurdly high morale and Army losses mechanic making every battle a stat-check because morale shock is rendered completely useless.
I translate this as Generals not being gods on horses in Rome 2
>>
>>2461146
I think you can adopt other family members if you really need to
>>
>>2461151
>what is the deal with this?
It just removes a strategic layer. You fight a battle while you're headed to an enemy settlement, you replenish automatically and not only do you replenish you recruit (several units) on top of that. The result is that armies don't behave like armies. What you see on the map might be 25%-50% stronger next turn despite no settlement being nearby and for the player -choosing whether to press on with the army you have or wait for reinforcements is no longer necessary because you can have your cake and eat it too.
>>
>>2461166
>You still have to fight the garrison.
It is the same map over and over again, it's shit.

>R1 and M2 had a lot more micromanagement on the campaign map due to how buildings worked.
In those games you can build whatever you want, just wait the turns, meanwhile in R2 (since Empire) you are castrated to a limited number of building slots, which become repetitive.

If I wanted to build things, I would play a city-builder, but last time I checked TW wasn't a city-builder franchise (yet). I want to fight massive armies, and see cities burn and fall under me.
>>
>>2461815
Just auto-resolve against the garrison.
Hell if you stack all buildings that improve units in the same region + 3 dignitaries for the 9 chevrons then you get unit with such bloated stats that you can win auto-resolves against 3 full armies with only one while taking minor losses that are fully refilled next turn.
>>
>>2462188
>nice digits
Thanks anon, I know that. But I think you mistake the conclusion of my post, my point is the key of this game is the massive combats, if you must auto-resolve due to how boring and tedious combats are, what is the point of this kind of games?

I played 'King Arthur: The Role-Playing Wargame', literally a Total War in all except the name, it was made by an actual INDIE studio, NeocoreGames.
I never autoresolved, all combats were fun (despite it didn't have dismemberments nor blood like nuTWs) to play and I had actual RPG mechanics (this game was made in 2009 and absolutely mogs the Warhammer trilogy).
>>
>>2461815
>It is the same map over and over again, it's shit.
that's true for R1 and M2 maps too, they just got walls.

>In those games you can build whatever you want, just wait the turns, meanwhile in R2 (since Empire) you are castrated to a limited number of building slots, which become repetitive.
How does a limited number of building slots make it more repetive or into a city builder?

I think you're just letting nostalgia blind you anon.
>>
>>2460057
>>Lenient auto-resolve
Why would this be a problem unless need everyone to play these games the same way you do.
>>
>>2462919
>Why would this be a problem unless need everyone to play these games the same way you do.
The problem lies in the fact that the auto-resolve does a better job than you do. In the older total wars it's the opposite.
>Tough battle I better auto-resolve (and losses don't matter because i'll replenish over the end-turn anyway)
vs
>Tough battle I better fight it out and do my best because I don't want to lose my Cretan archers among other things
>>
>>2462959
That¨s not my experience so agree to disagree.
>>
>>2462959
Auto resolve its useless if you're playing on legendary, you need to lower your casualty and kill the enemy quickly if you want to win otherwise you're going to face multiple stacks at the same time
Now you can cheese your army composition to make the most of auto resolve but thats just cheesing like building an army of only generals in rome 1
>>
>>2463291
Fine I'll check some Rome 2 legendary playthrough on youtube for research because I'm not gonna reinstall this dogshit game.
>First guy
"I'm gonna try to do more manual battles"
great start but not gonna give an accurate representation if he's going out of his way to do more manual than is normal. I'll watch Legend because I can trust that his autism will prevent him from fighting a manual battle if an auto is gonna yield a better result.
>>
>>2462961
>>2463291
>>2463307
So I watched Legend play but I lost count after 12 autos and 0 manuals. I think I'm done here. He also said something along the lines of "Auto is gonna be better because I won't be able to kill them all manually".
Everything I've heard and seen and played of this game points in the direction of it being an auto-resolve-fest until this thread where there are 2 anons who claim otherwise so something's gotta give.

>>
How good auto-resolve is depends greatly on army composition too. Elephants are absolute trash in auto-resolve for example.
>>
>>2463361
Archers and missile units are op in normal battle
But in auto resolve they are useless
>>
>>2462778
>How does a limited number of building slots make it more repetive or into a city builder?
Because you waste time thinking in what you need to build, while if it's unlimited, you can build whatever you want and not think too much of it.
But, if I'm being honest, I would love if the building stuff was removed and just focus in the battle stuff. Unless, the campaign and battle maps end up being fused in one, so the game becomes an actual city/empire-builder open-world with massive battles (imagine if they added first/third person combat too like in Mount&Blade), now that would be an actual innovation/revolution in this subgenre.

Public Order quickly becomes totally irrelevant however. There are so many technologies, ressorces and family member traits that give global public order bonuses that you can put taxes to maximum and get by without any public order buildings.

Was pondering a few of the common Total War issues and want to pitch an idea
>Problem: auto-replenishment sucks
In addition to going against the concept of a strategy game by negating the need to concern yourself with your logistics, the end result is often perpetual doomstacks
>Problem: Manual replenishment can be a tedious affair
While better than magically regenerating Spartans or Elephants, having to send individual units back to cities where they can replenish can require substantially more effort than the end result provides, compared to simply recruiting fresh stacks to send forward.
>Problem: early game units (such as Hastati) are often entirely obsoleted by their T2 counterparts (Principes)
From a historical perspective this is frustrating and results in more homogeneous armies as outside of edge cases there is rarely a good reason to recruit T1 units over T2.

>Proposal: Give T1 units self-replenishment capabilities, while higher tier units must still be replenished manually
Along with being plausible, this would encourage more historical tactics in throwing T1 units into historically accurate frontal roles. You'd likely see more unit diversity since having a core of basic units backed up by elites would give more flexibility, compared to the brittle nature of an all-elite army.
