Anyone playing this?
>>
oh hey it's the game where the dev had a meltdown after someone called the portraits ugly
>>
>>2460082
lol really? Can you point me to where that happened?
>>
It's pretty fun, map mods help out a lot though. Biggest problem is deployment is always from the same side of the map, so you can learn tactics for each map that hurt the AI for little or no cost. Also, maps are too small, at the top end, units can easily reach edge to edge, preventing a lot of maneuver that made the era interesting. That's especially an issue playing the Russians. The rogue like elements are fun, and building up "your guys" is pretty neat imo. On the other hand, the lack of consistent movement on the big scale hurts it, why fight for Bavaria or how would the HRE get to Wales, etc.
Very easy buy on sale. The DLC added some neat stuff, and mods have added it to original factions so you can test them out before you buy.
I don't give a fuck about the art, despite 20 threads arguing about it for some reason, it's acceptable. The games biggest problems have nothing to do with it.
>>2460086
Unless it's on a discord somewhere, all the meltdown attributed to the dev occurred here. I only ever saw it here at least, but I don't use discord
>>
>>2460053
put ~250 hours into it. Haven't played in a while, probably won't any time soon, but I enjoyed my time with this game and I'm very much looking forward to the sequel. From the dev streams, they seem to have identified every single issue that I had with Master of Command and have plans to address them so I'm quite optimistic.
>>
>>2460082
oh wow schizo anon is here first, not beating the allegations!
>>
Its a troon game with no depth or skills required to play

Understood.

>every single issue that I had with Master of Command and have plans to address them
Do those involve rank-by-fire, howitzers being kinda crap and how certain items are borderline busted by default? Earthworks for example.
>>
>>2460635
>Do those involve rank-by-fire, howitzers being kinda crap
the next game is going to be set during the pike and shot era so these two are definitely not going to be an issue.
>and how certain items are borderline busted by default? Earthworks for example.
some items are always going to be better than others, optimization is inevitable. And earthworks aren't *that* good on their own, you need to complement them with other items or the Russian cover doctrine to get a really significant boost. I'd invest into accuracy or melee before I'd invest into defenses.
>>
>>2460805
I'm not aware of a pike and shot themed sequel in the works but I'd definitely not complain if it comes.

>I'd invest into accuracy or melee before I'd invest into defenses
I suppose faction preference and rng gear availability plays into what'd you prioritize. From what I've played and seen so far I'd rather equip infantry with buckshot to be delivered before a charge and leave the skirmishing, if any is desired, to dragoons and light infantry. That said a solid line of +charge +mov +reload shotgun cover infantry and some hussars for countercharging his cav has been working wonders for me.

>Russian cover doctrine
Really? Haven't played with russians yet but I don't imagine they're better than swedes at that kind of play.

Yes, I'm aware I'm late for the party but I'm having a blast so far and would just like to talk shop about the game if people are still interested in it.
>>
>>2460053
Pretty fun. I haven't been able to beat the hardest preset difficulty. I found every difficulty before this to be numbingly easy, by the hardest is raping my ass and I've failed 3 campaigns. I found out recently that dragoons can shoot over line infantry allies, just like line can shoot over light infantry. Any other cool tips, anons?
>>
>>2460824
the sequel is in the very very early stages, they're still conceptualizing what exactly they want to do. Originally the plan was to just take MoC and improve the existing formula, mostly focusing on combat, but they decided to be a little more ambitious with it. There's still a chance they'll revert to the original plan, but the lead dev seems set on moving to pike and shot.

>Russians
Observation Corps start has a built-in bonus to cover. Combined with access to a Russian-exclusive doctrine that gives them a big boost to morale, they're the best turtle in the game.
>>
>>2460854
>Streamed live on 21 Jul 2026
I admit I assumed you were talking out of your ass but you delivered. Thanks anon.

>turtle
Do you pair that with canister heavy artillery and corner camp-like tactics or supplement with cav to provoke him or what? It does sound interesting if only to shake up my current carbine shotgun approach I seem to keep gravitate towards. And I'm definitely not seeing playing that way with at least +20% fire damage received.
>>
>>2460861
I typically drop cavalry entirely and aim for two artillery brigades when I turtle. If the enemy AI is using a defensive doctrine, the player's overwhelming artillery advantage makes it a little more proactive.
dropping cavalry is not necessary and is probably even detrimental against hyperaggressive, high morale enemies that can close the distance and engage in melee before your canister shreds them. Plus you want them to finish off the enemies who are routing but haven't been totally crushed so that they can't come back.
>>
>>2460870
>two canister artillery brigades
That'll do it lol.
>>
>>2460053
No.
>>
>>2460853
Don't sleep on morale and stamina, go above 50, 75 and 100 and you're getting combat effectiveness. +morale damage caused works on fire damage and artillery as well. Battlefield looters doctrine is op. Don't know what else to tell you since you're not saying what you're playing and what you're struggling with.

Oh, and this is a neat formation you might not be aware of. Think fire-by-rank except you're doing it with regiments. Shuffle one forward/backward while the other reloads. You can also do a second click on your general and equip his unit. That one is easy to miss.
>>
>>2460082
>someone called the portraits ugly
He was clearly right on that one
>>
>>2461867
How do niggas shoot over the regiment in front of em
>>
>>2461906
read the damn post, you're supposed to move them back and forth. Another bonus of this stance he doesn't mention is that close proximity to another unit and spreading damage over two regiments significantly increases your effective morale.
>>
>>2461906
They don't. It's a legitimate strategy of firing by division or company. Same as fire-by-ranks except you rotate regiments. Does wonders to shatter with shooting alone or preserve morale while concentrating fire especially with inferior troops.
>>
>>2461922
Yeah. Better overlap with the commander and easier to setup clear fire lanes for arty too.

Obviously limited by stamina, but still fun. This was on my first real run as the HRE, but they've since become my favorite faction. I find their recruitment gimmick to be really neat.

Yeah, you get a little of everything with them, discount Prussians, Brits, Russians, etc. Each of them, Saxon, Kries, Bavarian fights differently.

this looks like a flash game wtf

The palatines are alright, if a little slow. I'll give you that.

I WILL NEVER EVER waste time for fire discipline or bothering with gunfight accuracy. Charge and melee all the way. Austria and PLC are good at this, while France and Sweden are outright busted with the correct offensive build.
Also, very funny that I beat the final boss, but the game labels it as minor victory.
>>2460053
>playing France
>Doesn't have mixed infantry + artillery + cavalry for early game to later expand his brigades
>Not going with 2 infantry brigades + 2 cavalry brigades + 1 artillery brigade + all charging and offensive items
France should be played entirely with hammer and anvil + micromanaging the cav.
>>
>>2460082
The game looks like a shitty mobile game. Probably AI generated portraits.

100% bricked run confirmed. I'll perform a baguette sudoku within the hour.

I don't think you're being fair to the frogs as they have plenty of tricks available. Swiss + irish + volontaires and you have almost everything brits have with worse stats but better numbers. Rest of vol tree are basically prussians (with worse morale), swe shooty cav that can actually fight and with gendarmerie being better prus hussars. Core french troops? Excellent all-rounders with good numbers + obscene heavy cavalry.

>i hate shooting
Have you tried grenzers? ~2000 light inf regiment that has 3lb cannon range is no joke.

France was actually my first nation when I played the first release of this game. I played all three army variants and each time, I couldn't help but to go full into "charge + melee + speed" build. French artillery is a bit slow but devastating when concentrated on a single target, I used to knock out enemy artillery before any of my troops were engaged as France. French infantry (grenadiers regardless of nationality) is versatile, but they really work well with close quarters combat and pinning down the enemy, even routing them with a good charge. When you have a cavalry as OP as France, you just can't help but maneuver them to remove enemy cav quickly then outflank the enemy infantry stuck in fighting with your infantry.
This entire build and strategy for French has completely made me unable to play any other way. Doesn't help that I played Austria, PLC, and I'm playing Sweden right now which are all enemies to GBR, Russia, and Prussia.
>Have you tried grenzers? ~2000 light inf regiment that has 3lb cannon range is no joke.
Range ain't bad, I used grenzers in my Austria playthrough, but it's the reload speed that infuriates me (and I like 18th century warfare) alongside the fact that my enemies (Prussia and GBR) have way better fire discipline and gunfight focus than the nations I play. This forces me to concentrate my infantry as attack columns to punch through them while cavalry sweeps in from behind. It's rapid and fast, just the way I like it.
>>
>>2462422
wouldn't bother with even one artillery brigade on France. Two out of three starting army doctrine emphasize a certain unit type going into melee and giving up those bonuses for the least accurate artillery in the game (that will become completely useless the second your units actually get into melee range) just doesn't seem worth it.
>starting army
two Swiss/German brigades in the middle (or other units geared for accuracy), an Irish brigade (or other melee infantry) on each flank, one cavalry brigade spread thin to patch up any holes in a rapidly advancing horde.
>second army
you could make a case for artillery on this one. I typically don't. Four line infantry brigades geared for accuracy, each with a light infantry regiment, plus one cavalry brigade on counter-charge duty.
>third army
three line infantry brigades, each with a light infantry regiment, and two cavalry brigades. Three regiments of cavalry on each flank, the remaining two are kept back for rapid responses against aggressive enemies – if the AI is turtling, throw them into action as well.

>>2462492
Hungarians would probably be more up your speed on Austria. They used to have an achievement for running three cavalry brigades on release, I remember getting that one before they gave light cavalry a much needed buff and reduced the target for the achievement from 12 regiments to 8. Whew.

As in that was what I was stuck with at that moment but it's not 3 of those remained recruits the entire run.
And I dunno. I've seen people shit on line infantry but way I figure the more numbers you have the stronger effect of items. Melee, speed etc can be fixed with items. Troopcount less so. And when you stall him, shoot him to shit and then charge with shotgun irish they break all the same. That said I'm definitely getting some more cavalry on this run asap.
>>
>>2462506
I won all three armies with two infantry brigades and two cavalry brigades alongside one artillery brigade. I went all in with French, Swiss, and German grenadiers, turning all of my infantry into grenadiers and most of my cavalry into heavy cavalry.
French artillery is not accurate, but with proper range and reload speed you don't need accuracy. Just use Napoleonic tactics by massing your guns together and concentrate them on your enemy.
It allowed me to rout or shatter enemy artillery before any infantry or cavalry was engaged.
I think you're specializing too much. The French are versatile and fluid, shouldn't really go with strict formations that suit Prussians better.
>Hungarians
Great cavalry and grenadier troops. Very good for shock and melee.
I can't see the achievements' texts. I don't know what went wrong with my installation lol.
>>2462511
Never deploy French infantry in line, always put them in attack columns and move them like this >>2461867 create a 2×2 column with your infantry units. This will allow officer radius to cover all of them and also allows you to concentrate charge and melee buffs into the center of the enemy to break through them.
Sure, you can stretch your units in one line with the attack columns formation then let them engage each enemy unit on 1v1 but that's for later game where you have converted them all into grenadiers.
Playing France without cavalry is impossible, their infantry is not specialized like others, instead it's highly adaptable and offensive for combined arms attacks.
Also, mass your cavalry instead of spreading them on each flank. Retarded AI always keeps its cav near guns and behind infantry, or charges head-on at your infantry. Btw, you can route an infantry unity head-on with cav but you need to mass all of your cav units and have them equipped with charge and melee items to break and even shatter them quickly.
>>
>>2462540
Sure since that's also my post. I do feel it falls off once your officers and items are properly setup, your reload drops from ~40 to <15 and you split them into proper holding/assault groups. It's also a pain in the ass to micro and reform 12+ infantry as opposed to 4-8. But yeah, I swear by that formation in act 1-2.

>can route an infantry unity head-on with cav
I like routing cavalry with counter charging infantry even more. Highlanders, my beloved.

>grenadiers vs line
Just saying people are underappreciating line infantry even in melee role. If you have +efficiency doctrines for heavy infantry, sure, that's a no brainer but otherwise it's less clear-cut.

I think the victory type is just the difference in percentage losses. I've been tripping over decisive victories with my Big Rus army. I'm hoping for another +100/-15% Replenishment doctrine before I finish this run, would be fielding more than 40000 guys.
