in a thread or 2 ago I saw people discussing that paradox can't do navies right, and it made me think how would you do naval warfare so its fun and engaging?
In every paradox game, naval battles are just a pure numbers game. whoever has better/more ships wins. Compare the vast sea to land warfare. With land battles you have to worry about terrain, forts, attrition, etc. The reason why a smaller weaker nation is able to defend themselves and win against a larger more powerful nation is because they can take advantage of fighting in their own land, They can stay on hills/mountains, defend forts, lure in the invaders for a kill, go scorched earth, etc. What is there to naval battles? just send all your ships to the battle, not like there are any defense bonuses or attrition. I honestly forget that ck3 doesn't have ships. Sure it's kinda silly seeing a huge army of 15k+ medieval soldiers transform into ships, but adding navies probably isn't worth the effort

i believe i lost it from selling titles because the cooldown is the same as seizing land but it gives 10% while you only seize 5%. i could go for that tho because i have no 'cinces under the flo' of 25 anyways 'sides my capital. however i have been below 5% before so i think i would need to go below 1%.

it's an event that can fire if you're under 5%, but the mtth gets way lower under 1%
and you're supposed to get innovative>espionage>offensive ideas so you have plenty of mana to dev and get crownland that way if you wish to sell/seize on cooldown

I’ve never been able to endlessly enjoy any Paradox game other than CK2. I got 500 odd hours in EU4, but after playing every country and region I have been half a shit about and figuring out how to min max everything, it got extremely dull.

Victoria 2 never grabbed me, the economics seem simultaneously overcomplicated and completely broken, and the politics never seem to map to anything that actually happened in any country in real life. HoI4 is a baffling game, you just click focus trees and wait 70 days to make the US fascist or whatever other absurd outcome, it barely feels like playing a video game outside of the combat.

The newer batch of games isn’t any better. CK3 is just dumbed down CK2 even after six years of updates. Maybe vanilla vs vanilla isn’t bad, but modded CK2 is still in an entirely different level. Victoria 3 is so broken is makes 2 see, practically bug free, the war system is fundamentally broken and needs to be ripped out, and politics are actually worse at modeling the era than in 2. EU5 is some ungodly mix of Imperator: Rome and MEIOU, it barely feels like an EU game at all, I genuinely don’t think Johan knows what the fuck he’s doing anymore.

Modded CK2 still does it for me though. I genuinely wish I could get that feeling from another game, hell even the feeling from the first couple hundred hours of EU4. It’s on me for continually buying every new game this company puts out and expecting anything to match it. The Vicky3/EU5 shitshow duology was the last straw for me though, I’m truly out.
