what mod is that and does it have europeans (more than just spain) as playable?
>>
>So what campaigns are you gonna play?
I tried it on vanilla.
With the fixes for pike, guns, and 2-handed units, I played the vanilla grand campaign with the original vision of the developer. The gameplay is supposed to change several times to keep things interesting for the player, but because of the bugs that CA never fixed that doesn't happen by the time late-game, professional units are unlocked.
So that got me thinking about mods like Stainless Steel, which I played a lot over the preceding two decades - they're far too long. The gameplay doesn't change enough during those long campaigns and so each battle and siege are very often exactly the same until new units are unlocked.

If you want to see the original vision of the developer, REX/M2EX will never be the way to do it. The devs are people who played the original game and thought it was shit, so they're making balance/mechanic/ui/lighting etc changes that cannot be toggled.
>>
>>2465871
The YOU ARE NOW HERE point at the moment is between 12x Battle Speed and Blood. But I want to know how far away we are from 40 unit armies?

This project is being directed by a council of discord zoomers who hated the original games and refuse to let you toggle their retarded changes. In the end, it will just be a different flavour of shit when compared to Rome Remastered, and the best way to play the games will remain the original releases with DXVK, warts and all.

>broken units
>broken diplomacy
These are valid things to fix, since you can see the intent, the code is just bugged.

>broken pathfinding
>broken sieges
>shit campaign AI in general
Things that would be great to have fixed, but almost certainly won't be

>shit agents system
The agent system is perfectly fine once the diplomacy is fixed. Allowing you to spam their abilities within a single turn is typical zoomer retardation that misses the point of the turn-based mechanic.

>shit pacing of the campaign
Nobody can agree on what "good pacing" constitutes, this will be a mess to tackle.

>shit performance
The performance improvements are objectively a good thing

I notice that you never mentioned the lighting engine being bad, because it wasn't, and everyone who wasn't a CA shill thought it looked fine and was pissed that Feral fucked with it. The EX team is fucking with it anyway, simply because they can, and we're just stuck with their vision since it cannot be disabled.

>but why spend the effort for shit that will certainly create controversy among the players in the first place
Because this mod is being made for the group of discord members who want these changes because they thought the original games were terrible. People who just want the original games but fixed are going to be about as disappointed with this as they were with Remastered for the lack of toggles.

The most baffling thing is they changed almost all starting general portraits for seemingly no reason. Everybody who has played Rome knows picrel isn't the bald beast with the very lively trait that Julii starts off with and it's such a minor thing to fix too and the only thing it can possibly achieve is to piss people off. It makes sense if you consider the fact that the devs are zoomers who haven't played the games but still.

Lel I noticed this too while playing mods that fixes pikemen by making them not able to carry secondary weapons. It just turns them invicible, if you flank them then their formation progressively becomes a pike Schiltron.

We *do* add toggles for pretty much anything which is even slightly divisive. See the unit silhouettes / unit indicators for the latest examples.

Also thanks for that one unixfag anon who keeps spamming that ooc pic of me saying "game used to be shit" implying the devcucks will drastically change the vision:tm:

I was talking about the godawful RTS camera, the random crashes and the unholy lag, not about the gameplay -_- thanks for taking it out of context though

>We *do* add toggles for pretty much anything which is even slightly divisive.
>"pretty much"
>"anything that is even slightly divisive"
Weasel words. You should add toggles for absolutely anything that deviates from performance improvements and bug fixes. Failing this, have a forked, "vanilla" version of the project. Don't be like those obnoxious faggots that force people to endure their autistic modding vision with altered lighting and mechanic changes that nobody outside of your own personal friend group asked for when all anyone people really wanted was to be able to finally play a bugfixed version of the game that plays well on modern hardware.

I'm also a fan of not taking literal years to refactor the code and make shit modular and all that faggotry. See shite like Calamity where they've pissed like five years of development away on reworks, resprites, customisation and code cleanliness bs.

The bugfixed version which plays well on modern hardware literally exists, download 21/6 or if that's too radical for you, 20/3.
But I presume you want *some* features from the newer versions, that's why using the old ones isn't a good substitute.

In that case...Re more toggles for any kind of autism: if you care *that* much, contributions welcome. To quote Linus, "Talk is cheap. Show me the code." Crying is free, doing shit isn't

>don't be surprised to see yourself get bagged on for making anti-Linux comments

Have you not noticed that the feedback section for the project's Discord has been receiving multiple requests for toggles, or the project to be forked, as your changes to the game increase? This is because the members of the server are being very nice about telling you that your changes are bad, retarded and unwanted. You'd have caught onto this if you weren't some zoomer mutt. What were you even fucking thinking with that terrible lighting engine. If people wanted to play RTW but with awful changes to the game, Rome Remastered already exists.

>>
>>2468842
>yeah, got a few suggestions which effectively boil down to "just maintain two branches of the thing, retard"
Quite a bit more than a few, because the fans have already gone through this with Rome: Remastered. You're pulling the same rubbish of doing things nobody asked for, listening only to yes-men in your Discord circlejerk while ignoring external complaints and dismissing everyone else. To be frank, the people in the Discord are being quite polite about it. You're like Feral right now, when they became convinced that their shite UI was great and that there was no need for a toggle. Obviously, they had plenty of people in their inner circle praising it and ignored all of the dissenting "mouthbreathers".

It's illegal. Dev is from Hubgary and was hoping Orban would protect him, but now that he's gone there is nothing stopping NATO from carpet bombing his house.
>>
It's clear that the dev's design philosophy diverges from what made the original game enjoyable. Feedback is not a reliable way to get your opinions heard, there is too much focus on making the game look pretty while a lot of issues that actually affect core gameplay such as BAI and CAI are left unaddressed or have been altered in ways that have not been made transparent and have had unintended consequences. Not only that, but allowing a bunch of people playing heavily modded campaigns to vote in a poll to decide the direction of the project will result in REX/M2EX becoming exactly that: a fan-mod. It feels as though people who haven't really played the game/don't enjoy it are making changes without regard for all of the downstream effects, and aren't trying to adhere to the original scope of the project. The discord is an echo chamber where you'll be mobbed by yes-men and jannies for expressing dissent. Ironically it's drifting towards becoming a microcosm of CA game development culture and the existing issues within the playerbase.

It's that these devs are retarded in the sense that this patch shoudl merely be bug fixes of the OG games plus the x64 bit support for the actual mod teams to implement features. They shouldn't be implemeting OC features with this.

If they want mod teams to adopt this, they should keep this as feature light as possible. Or literally just implement toggles for the options.
>>
>>2469705

1. Project was always made to unfuck the game for players. Modder features are secondary.
2. Most things *do* have toggles.
3. If we've added toggles for everything including stuffl like DX9 or DX11, development would take ages.
4. You can keep saying that we shouldn't implement features, but we will because we can finally implement features modders couldn't before.
5. You can use older versions if you want a version with the good performance/x64 but with way fewer changes.
6. But no one does this because y'all want *some* things from the newer version. Your ideal goal would be no feature development *at all*, and that would be stupid.

Read somewhere too that Gigantus was big mad over M2EX, why though? they invested in EOP?
>>
>>2469717

Cheers, but I give way more fucks about the *players* themselves. The modding capabilities are secondary to that.

Besides, most of what modders do is just piss themselves and cry instead of using the expanded limits and the modding features because we *have* in fact done quite a few of them already. It doesn't matter though because there's an infinite amount of requests and we don't say yes to every single modding feature they request.

>Not have modders work around stuff you end up adding.
I don't think the modders can upgrade the game to DX11 or rewrite the rendering&lighting almost completely. Well, they *could* come here and collab + work on engine features too but they don't.

I don't see why we should restrict ourselves into being a script expander like SKSE or EOP. That just feels like a very unambitious thing to do. This is more of a community remaster sort of.

Scripting *will* be coming but if we focused on that, literally no one would use M2EX whatsoever because there aren't that many modders left anymore, and most of them are using EOP and hate M2EX. You don't try to please people who largely don't like you anyway....

I've got it to work with BOTET by changing the name of M2EX.exe to Medieval2.exe but now light cavalry crashes the game for some reason? And the launcher calls it out as illegal modification (yet it says LAA isn't detected while I can attest it is and otherwise would not work)
Other than this it IS certainly an improvement and I wish these bullheaded coders could stop being so prickly with each other, to the corpo's point of view it's all illegal anyway so what gives?
>>
>>2471272
most of these modders are lazy faggots
they'd rather just keep doing whatever they've been doing for the past 5+ years or longer
anyway if this project lasts and expands for another year or so they'll probably fold and just start actually supporting it since the advantages are just too big to ignore alongside the jewtubers shilling it
as for the EOP clique they'll never give up on their work since it'd mean giving up power over the community and their work down the drain
>>
>>2471272
Found out why it wasn't working so I'll post the solution here for whoever wants to try:
Added an M2EX.exe shortcut to desktop
right click ->properties
Inside the shortcut menu at the voice 'Target:' add after the ...\Medieval II Total War\M2EX.exe" the following string:
--io.file_first --features.mod=mods/BOTETv3
then apply and close.

Had to use chatgpt which had me mess around for an hour before finding this fucking 1 minute fix but whatever. If it works it works.
>>
>>2471313
botet includes a simplified .bat file in submod directory
could have just used that
>>
>>2471345
Nevermind, light cavalry still crashes the game after loading a save from before this problem...
I give up, all code is demon coded by the devil and the only way to save your soul is playing tabletop games in real life.
>>
>>2471384
I lied, apparently I am a masochist because I narrowed it down to:
armour_ug_models having a value listed as 'null,' which creates a conflict with M2EX.
>>
>>2471345
See >>2470060

I doubt it will work well though. M2ex jsut doesn't seem compatible with vanilla mods, there are some fixes on discord but I think they don't fully fix them.
>>
>>2471534
That... doesn't work? It just opens M2EX vanilla medieval 2 instead.
Sorry if I can't quite understand how to format it correctly I've never messed with .exe files before.

The path I'm using that at least lets me play the game (besides that hiccup with armour_ug_models) is:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\M2EX.exe" --io.file_first --features.mod=mods/BOTETv3

I removed the '--io.file_first' part and added '/configuration.cfg' at the end after BOTETv3 but it's no go.
>>
>>2471666
Remove every parameter and just put that.
Should be
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\M2EX.exe" @mods\BOTETv3\configuration.cfg
>>
>>2471718
That does look like it should be closer to working (and indeed the loading does reach almost to the end when entering battle) but it still fails, thanks for the help though, maybe I'll keep an eye in the (eugh) discords.
>>
>>2471718
Also somehow if I reopen the properties it resets to a truncated:
"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Medieval II Total War\M2EX.exe"
For some god forsaken reasons?
>>
>>2471272
I got BOTET to work without issue by making a .bat in my med2 folder with the command

@echo off
start "" "%~dp0M2EX.exe" --features.mod=mods/BOTETv3

You could also try getting rid of the --io.file_first
>>

>>

Well, I fixed it by substituting the null files found in 'BOTETv3>data>unit_models>_units':
null_diff.texture
null_lod0.mesh
null_norm.texture
(All three were like 1 or 2KB)

with copies (renamed appropriately for the substitution) of the similarly named files found in the 'none' folder (within the same '_units' folder as before).

Now mounts only units seemingly work as intended.
Will test it out more tomorrow as it's ungodly late here.

>LMAO, this is funny after seeing this thread. Why is Gigantus losing his mind over this?
Probably because some retarded zoomer with Claude has accomplished in a couple of months more than Gigantus has in over 20 years. The implication is that every mod has to start supporting or be built off of m2ex because of all the restrictions that are being lifted on the engine because of it.
And that's even with the m2ex devs going the full retard route of tuning the game to their liking by being amateur game devs instead of the purist route.
>>
>>2474467

>>
>>2474534
The best case scenario is one of the old-heads get the source code or have it leaked to them and develop a purist variant.
As it stands I've given m2ex two chances and both times I had to quit because of bugs and campaign AI.
It's just a zoomer fan-mod at this point. Every AI faction has to zoomzoomzoom, spend all their money, optimize their building paths, run around with doomstacks threatening everyone and everything even royal marriage partners. *even on MEDIUM*.
It's just not a recognizable experience compared to the vanilla version and like half the complaints in their discord are "why is the AI so aggressive in my LOTR mod these factions are supposed to be allies".

It's sad. The guy probably invested a decade of his life in reverse engineering it, only for all that work to be completely invalidated by a code leak. Even if he could mentally bring himself to abandon it and start over with the source code, you can never be sure CA won't go after people if the project gains more traction.
>>
>>2474412
Anyone involved in modding ancient Total War titles has autism as a hard requirement. >>

LEL
>>
>>2474467
That probably would be pretty demoralising. Guy works a really long time to try and reverse-engineer a game he loves as a genuine passion project and then some tranny discord zoomers who think the game is shit get ahold of some leaked code and vibecode something that everyone immediately starts basing their mods around. If I was him, I'd just accept the reality of the situation and start doing a similar thing with the leaked code and make a purist version since there's definitely an audience for it and the M2EX team has no interest in keeping it close to vanilla.

The graphics and UI are in desperate need of modernisation, the AI is idiotic, the advisor system is clunky, etc. Anyone who just wanted this to be a pure bugfix project is insane, these games simply do not hold up as they were even when ignoring the bugs.

you look at this right now and tell me it's better
this project NEEDS a branch that doesn't have the UI and graphics touched because I need to see some proof of concept of what exactly "modernized" UI is to you
if it's this absolute mobile game tier SLOP that is modern TW UI then I am very much losing faith in you zoomers

I like the concept a lot but I have some criticisms so of course I resign myself to have 100% of it all hand waved away amd deflected as just being absolutely nothing but a boomer afraid of change, I guess
I view time as a resource and there are better places to spend resources than trying to reinvent the wheel
it's mostly the arrogance of stating how much the gane doesn't hold up when there are aspects of RTW/M2TW that modern Total Wars got straight up worse at doing

>>2477296
agent spam is annoying but here too there are aspects that hold up better than modern TW
actually having a unit to open diplomacy than just a "diplomacy button" is superior
princesses I suppose aren't entirely necessary
3KTW's system of having characters function as both generals and agents is also a good system but it would need to be done specifically how 3KTW pulled it off than a title like the Total Warhammers
>>
>>2477300

The concept was always to update and modernise RTW and M2TW. It was never to just fix bugs and improve performance. This is an inversion of the truth. So many of these shitty modder fan fiction projects would be beloved if all they were was “the original game, but with bug fixes and performance improvements and optional QoL features”. Yes.
Enforced imbalances are retarded. Historical rosters are only accurate if you are following a roughly semi-historical expansion path. A successful nation will have access to better technology and equipment and adapt their doctrine accordingly. Additional roster unlocks should be tied to owning specific settlements.
>>
>>2478843
there is nothing ahistorical about certain factions lacking more advanced versions of units that other factions might specialize in, not to mention it differentiates the factions, makes the campaign more dynamic (player needs to think about who they are strong/weak against) and gives the game replay value...

does that one have the pike, two-hander, gunpowder, and crossbowmen on a wall bug fixes?
>>
>>2478866
There is a lot ahistorical about a nation that completely lacks a historically important technology or doctrine that never developed it in the time frame because they were poor/small/too far away/never encountered them in large numbers still deciding it will ignore everything different while running across the entirety of Europe meeting all of those things while owning historically important or rich cities.
I'm not saying just give everything to everyone automatically. I'm saying hey maybe owning important settlements from other nations will let yours figure out how some things they didn't have access to originally work.
>>
>>2478922
On that note, it's stupid that there are factions that have temples exclusive to them. The Greek City States and Macedon for example should both have access to all Greek temples in the game. Same with the Roman houses and Roman temples.
>>
>>2478905
its a formula that has always existed in TW for each faction to have a specialty while having a weakness to balance them out, it doesn't need to nor can it possibly adhere to history 1:1. if you are seriously advocating for every faction to essentially be a reskin then you are hopeless
>>
>>2478922
the only faction that should have vardariotai are the byzantines. the only faction that should have janissaries are the turks. the only faction that should have longbowmen is britain, etc. anyone new to the med2 who captures constantinople and gets access to vards or cataphracts while playing as someone else is not going to want to ever try a campaign as byzantium because you've flattened the difference between the two

>the only faction that should have vardariotai are the byzantines. the only faction that should have janissaries are the turks. the only faction that should have longbowmen is britain, etc.
Special ethnic units should be recruitable if you capture that part of the world. Just like the Byzantines recruited the Vardariotai from the steppe nomad part of their empire and Turks recruited janissaries from newly occupied parts of their empire. If some other kingdom occupied England then the new rulers would raise longbowmen there too because the knowledge and logistics already exist.
>anyone new to the med2 who captures constantinople and gets access to vards or cataphracts while playing as someone else is not going to want to ever try a campaign as byzantium because you've flattened the difference between the two
It should be a shittier version to maintain the original faction's merit, and more costly to prevent special unit spam. But it should be available so that historically disparate shitty factions can "catch up" if they become ahistorically successful.

Why is it so hard for 4channers to understand that this is not a fucking vanilla preservation project, it never advertised itself that way at any point, and never will. It was made to improve the games, to build on them, not preserve them. You are legitimately dumber than the "discord zoomer trannies" you pretend to be better than, since nobody in the Discord server has a problem understanding this. The original games are very flawed, and were in desperate need of updating. That's the point. If you don't like it, you can very easily just play vanilla.
>>
>>2479331
Hi can i get engine extension mod hold the bad balance changes?
>>
>>2479074
it's called faction identity. in what world are you in a position to speak on old TW vs nuTW? you're a newgen who no longer even tries to hide his lack of respect for the source material.

you obviously suffer from a terminal case of warhammer brain which interprets unique faction rosters as "muh missing content", probably because your nonexistent attention span can't fathom the idea of trying multiple campaigns to get a varied experience each time, or advocating for adding bloat in name of "unit diversity". and yet you try and disassociate yourself from "nuTW", nigger you ARE nuTW. enjoy playing your reskin garbage
