Thoughts on this game? Looks like THE wargame
>>2466358Severely overpriced. If you desperately want to play a hex wargame focused on the eastern front in WW2 sure, why not, but how long will that keep you entertained? Big issue as always is the AI is not up to human ability so hope you like PBEM.
>>2466425What if i told you....i found it for 20€
>>2466425AI is an issue in GGWITE2, but not because it’s not up to human ability, it’s an issue because it breaks the rules. AI’s pieces have unlimited movement when not isolated, so it’s always remaking its defensive line, and you’ll get crazy things like naval infantry that was supposed to be up in Leningrad down in Ukraine. Gameplay-wise, it means that unless you close your pincer in one turn, you’ll lose your encirclement opportunity as the threatened AI units warp away 100s of miles.
>>2466497Probably worth it? I imagine you can get 20-30 hours out of 1 playthrough for each side.>>2467685Yeah I agree, but I was just blaming it in general. It's just not fun or engaging to fight.
>>2466358I only play to superior games that are complex enough for me like HOI4, these games try to copy the formula invented by paradox making generic clones. Sorry but I'm not falling for this bait
>>2466425>>2467725It's worth it if it's your interest. I did a full campaign of each side and that got me just over 500 hours of playtime
>>2468222trips of truth, it's just a really, really niche game
Game is dragged down by horrible air system
I enjoy watching day-by-day multiplayer campaigns of War in the Pacific, since Pacific naval combat is a bit more cinematic, the tide can shift rapidly and you get to see a ton of what-if sceanrios play outhttps://youtu.be/qoTjanWo-YM?
weird that /vst/ doesn't have more wargame threads
>>2471046this
>>2471053This is probably the reason. They appeal to a really small audience but they're quite quality games, even though they are made by smaller studios.
>>2471084I bet the majority of players pirate them, war in the east is 80 bucks for distilled autism.
>>2471087I'm one of those autists that play it rn actually. I bought it much cheaper than the steam price.
btw we need to start a wargame general on /vst/, i think those games are underappreciated
>>2471084there are/were threads on here about games with way smaller audienceand way smaller than whole wargame subgenre for sure
>>2471046/vst/ is mostly paradox and TW with a smattering of other titles here and there. Wargames are too difficult and focused for the majority of posters. Why learn the intricacies of OOB and tactics of bygone ages when you can map paint or hulk smash? TW is especially bad about this, it is an arcade console port of strategy and plays as such which is why so many lap it up
>>2466358>Looks like THE wargame>only one sanitized front and no actual global war
>>2472066I'm 11 hours in and the attention to detail is astonishing. If the game took place on a global scale, it would be extremely overwhelming. Now it's simply complex as fuhh
>>2472066Each campaign is a different game. It's practically impossible to play the entire global conflict, which didn't even happen IRL (notwithstanding Pershing's advanced autism).
Only played the original WitE. There was a mechanic called HQ build up which enabled you as the Germans to do insane bullshit. Lurk at Pskov for one turn, and then panzerball your way just south of Leningrad to take all the ports. This ensured Leningrad would fall well before winter. Which also meant Moscow would fall before 1941 was out. The first half of 1942 was just a formality taking the last VPs.The "panzerball" was just concentrating the bulk of your mobile forces in one area rather than keeping them split as 4 panzer groups over the entire front. This enabled you to punch right through the Russian lines, send a second wave in to wipe out any reserves behind, and then the third wave would go on a long range deep penetration way the fuck behind enemy lines. This all took place in just one turn.Pretty fucking ridiculous to see your panzers advance from Pskov to way past Leningrad in one turn, with the Russians being unable to react to it at all.The trouble being once seen you cant unsee it. You know it can be done and trying to avoid such an exploit by deliberately retarding yourself is...well... retarded. Absolutely ruined the game for me. It took the game from being the supposed holy grail of war gaming to be more like a fantasy game for retards. Might as well have added magic and dragons.Only played the full campaign twice. Once as Germany and once as Russia. Both times I completely ignored the air war. Just set to auto. As Russia its easy to blunt the German advance, and then do shit like snipping off their advanced units and destroying them. You can go on the general offensive in late 1941 and take Berlin by mid 1942. The only thing slowing you down is reorganizing your army. Absolutely ridiculous. Waste of time and money. That's why I would never buy WitE2, I just have no faith in the brand, I am 100% certain it would have the same sort of ludicrous shit. Still, if you are a lowit who jerks it to TOE data then you might still enjoy it.
>>2472057Yeah paradox spam on here is kinda sad
>>2466358I really want to like this game, but Panzer General series & panzer-likes with their branching campaigns spoiled me rotten. If I cant defeat one theatre of operations and pivot around to deal with another one with the full might of my veteran troops? Then it just kills my motivation to play.>mfw my elite tiger tank units covered by ace Fw-190's right after defeating the soviets now redeployed to Sicily melting quarter of the american army in a single turn
>>2472357Cucks
Main issue with this game is it’s 100% railroaded. For example you might be Germany in late 1943 and you’re doing far better than in history but your OOB changes, equipment production rates or types of equipment in production are still the same as historical.“Background” system doesn’t reflect what’s going on on the battlefield. It just breaks immersion and doesn’t make any sense.
>>2466358I haven't played it, but personally I am excited for Total Victory, its by the same guy who made warplan. It looks like the best middle ground between ultra boomer super slow wargame vs the zoom zoom speed of hoi4 which can be finished easily in one day.It also looks like it will make me learn but not melt my brain.>>2468090Bait isn't even bait at that point broski.>>2471046Because most fans are either boomers or hyper fixated on a specific front.Few normies play wargames, its a shame because some of them are playable for brainlets.Strategic Command is a good normie tier game I could enjoy without being screwed over by a bazillion things to manage.Graviteam Tactics is another good one for normies.
>>2472630I hate games like that, what is the point of even letting you play the buildup or do anything other than battles if it doesn't matter. In Strategic Command WW1 it does get a little OP if you do some what ifs, but overall its somewhat balanced and allows some dynamic scenarios. If the wargame spans an entire conflict I demand some level of alternate history even if its just better production and stuff.
>>2472630The alternative is HoI where you can beeline research the best meta equipment though. What would be a good system? Periodically offered 3-5 "packages" of equipment filled with good and bad items?
So how wehraboo is this game? Do you panzers just blitz forward without any road attrition and your infantry magically keeps up?
its pretty great a full 215 turn campaign will easily fill atleast 200 hours and a few months. Its also much more fun with a human opponent so find someone
>>2467685This sounds horrible what the fuck. Was the first game also like this?
