Surprised not to see a thread for this. From what the devs have shown, this is basically the BFME3 that we were denied but in GOT form. Apparently they'll be showing more at Gamescom in a couple of weeks.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xoxZp7vp8QAlso some new gameplay clips from Twatter.https://x.com/WarforWesteros/status/2079363287209460026https://x.com/WarforWesteros/status/2080442895841247738https://x.com/WarforWesteros/status/2081892456120172574https://x.com/WarforWesteros/status/2082979601350005068https://x.com/WarforWesteros/status/2084429180150894807https://x.com/WarforWesteros/status/2085517785346785636Thoughts?
>>2468230>2005 tier RTS (but with le modern graphics)>based on GoT which no one cares about anymorelol. This is really sad
>>2468230>cavalry with swords vs pikes in frontal charge, while pikes covered by archers on impassable high ground>Thoughts?Author of screenshot is journalist.
>>2468234Those are spears and that cavalry doesn't have lances. Plus you can see a mary sue with plot armor in front. Face it, that cav is proper fucked.
>>2468232>2005 tier RTS (but with le modern graphics)2000s RTS games were god-tier, we need more devs going back to basics and gradually improving on the formula instead of trying to reinvent the wheel.>nobody cares about anymoreIt literally got two ongoing spin-offs with multiple seasons each.
>>2468230Think that the only depiction of mass combat I saw in the seasons I've watched was that time Stannis attacked the capital and was defeated by a midget.I am also debating if the unnaturalness of the screenshot scenario is just my opinion, the screenshot being screenshot and thus warping my perspective or there IS something wrong with some real-time "strategies". DoW4 footage did that to a degree and then there is that Age of Sigma game that had squads of even orcs uncannily synchronizing their movements in gameplay trailers, which was definitely happening.
>>2468236>>2468234The spearmen are in loose formation and their spears aren't even braced. They're going to get raped by the cavalry charge.
>>2468251Screenshot is over a year old it’s from the initial reveal of the game. YouTube and the Twitter links show recent stuff.
>>2468268>the only part that has the troops move "naturally" looks like in-game movie>the part that looks like the actual gameplay has units running at hihg speeds in perfect formationsThanks for telling me to stop being lazy, anon. I am confirming my suspicions here.
>>2468256Doesn't matter. If a unit with "cav" keyword touches a unit with "spear" keyword, they receive back 150% of the trample damage value, regardless of whether the pikemen are braced, standing or moving.
>>2468283Cope and seethe.
>>2468251>>2468276What’s wrong with units moving in formation? Would seem to make sense for a medieval-based RTS. Battle for Middle-Earth did the same thing as did Age of Empires.
>>2468251It looks like a mobile game same thing was the case for AoE4 and Dawn of war 4 is also giving similar vibes
I don't think it looks awful, who made it though>Mouse: PI for hire, Age of Darkness Final Stand devs>Tons of console ports>Apparently contributed to Warcraft III ReforgedThat last one is anti-marketing for them, but I'll hold on until the gamescom reveal with final judgementSo far I'm only glad the arrow trails don't look like the retarded homing sewing needles from AoE4
>>2468292Unless the units are machines/disciplined elite that can move and act as one on the whole another level I'd expect more chaos, slight breaking of the formations here and there. BfME wasn't as uncanny as that from my memories. Age of Empires does have units clipping into each other or forming a deathball/line as they try to follow the optimal route to their destination. Definitely more chaotic.
>>2468256Loose formation is just bite cav to charge. While charge won't do anything since they wield fucking 1h sword+shield, horses and riders will be pierced by 2.5m long sharp sticks no matter how you will name it.And there no place for flanking since terrain. And there no time for maneurs since archers.Cav is fucked from all sides. L2p at least a little next time before writing reviews, journalist.
>>2468299>BfME wasn't as uncanny as that from my memoriesThere we are.
>>2468320It's not even that loose either.
>>2468320Well done, gamer, well done. HOWEVER you forgot that one armed Jaime at this distance can use his skill that projects disgusting images of him having sex with his witch of a sister, thus demoralising the enemy and making them easy pickings for the cavalry.
>>2468230Thread for fucking what? A fucking announcement for something sometimes next year. Maybe. Go fuck yourself marketeer bitch.
>>2468346a paradox thread died for this and you're laughing.....
>>2468232maybe that's why a smaller studio managed to get the rights, what feels weird is that they explicitly use GoT and the characters modeled after the actors.RTS is just the best setting for fantasy war. If they were smart they would make it a Spellforce-like so you can play your favorite hero while smashing armies together. It would make it much easier to tell stories outside battlefield locations as well.
>>2468346it's slated for release early next year and getting a bigger gameplay reveal in a couple of weeksdon't see anyone bitching that there's like 3 company of heroes threads, 2 mount and blade ones, 2 for dawn of war including dow 4 which will be released in december and another 3 for age of empires including 1 for an unreleased aoe3 expansion plus who knows however many fucking paradox threadsyou can deal with having ONE thread for something that's not the same old for once you double aids-infested nigger
>>2468346this/vst/ is aoe, total war, paradox, starcraft and command & conquer board
>>2468353Actually, I'm not laughing. Maybe another will die with this bump.
Combat looks shit, Ancestors Legacy looked better and that came out 8 years ago.
>>2469310Ancestors Legacy had some awesome combat animations that I'd only ever seen in Total War games. It's a shame it just got abandoned by the devs after their Saracen expansion.
>>2468241>2000s RTS games were god-tier, we need more devs going back to basics and gradually improving on the formula I agree but I don't see any improvement on the formula. It looks like any other mid-00s RTS.>It literally got two ongoing spin-offs with multiple seasons each.It still ended 8 years ago. But it was a huge hit because it was epic. These videos do not look epic because the game looks so basic and generic. It needs a lot more to recapture the feel of the show. >>2468357Yeah, it should be a unique game with over the top mechanics because that's what the show was. But it just looks like AoE 3 with bouncy physics
>>2470533>I agree but I don't see any improvement on the formula. It looks like any other mid-00s RTS.Honestly just doing 2000s RTS but with prettier graphics and physics is fine to me at this point. They can improve on it after release with expansions for all I care.>But it was a huge hit because it was epic. These videos do not look epic because the game looks so basic and generic.Wasn't the entire point of GOT that it was "grounded" fantasy? It's not supposed to be epic on the scale of Lord of the Rings.
>>2470747
>>2470747>>2470786if you start arguing about semantics of the word epic I'm going to piss and shit on you both, it doesn't matterGame of Thrones is not just a book series but an entire fictional universe that spawned multiple other spinoffs, media, with other authors involvedit's exactly the same way for Lord of the Ringsboth of these settings deserve their own Battle for Middle Earth and it's a good thing GoT is about to get oneIf it's anything like Ancestors Legacy and nothing like Stormgate we're in a good spot bros
>>2468230Unless I can play as the Darkstar I don’t care.
>>2468230>Surprised not to see a thread for this.I'm surprised to see a thread for this.
