auto resolve ruined total war, no strategy just stacks of units, no gameplay. It is a ruined series and always has been. It cuts out half the game and you end up doing it for one reason or another
>>
>>2470180
>and you end up doing it for one reason or another
yeah because fighting 10 shitstacks per turn would be just as bad
>>
>>2470182
because there's no reason not to use it
>>
>>2470180
Autoresolve has been in the game from the beginning; you dumb secondary newfag. That was never the issue. The issue is that CREATIVE Assembly is CREATIVELY bankrupt like all corpos, and in their greed they fail to understand what made these games good to begin with.
>>
>>2470180
Autoresolve didn't ruin Total War. Autoresolve WITH automatic unit replenishment ruined Total War. Now there is no downside to yoloing your stacks in autoresolve. The units will get replenished quickly no matter where they are.
>>
>>2470186
In the older Total Wars the autoresolve function had a big anti-player bias built inside to ensure that you don't spam it.
From Rome 2 onwards you can easily beat campaigns using autoresolve only even on very hard difficulties.
>>
>>2470212
Eh, I dont remember that ever being a thing. I remember autoresolving battles in Rome and Medieval 2 just fine, when they were not interesting to fight or I jsut wanted to be done with the campaign.
>>
>>2470220
Problem is in RTW and M2, autoresolve can fuck up an elite unit that can only get retrained on the other end of the map. In newer games lmao it replenishes on the spot.
>>
>>2470224
>autoresolve can fuck up an elite unit
As I said, I dont really remember that. Especially, once you got your elite units it was always quite easy to blitz the enemies around you just with autoresolve.
>that can only get retrained on the other end of the map. In newer games lmao it replenishes on the spot.
That one is true, that is the real issue with the new games.
>>
>>2470180
>>2470212
Autoresolve worked just fine when you had bigger numbers and knew you were gonna win so an actual battle would've been a serious waste of time, and it was vastly improved between R1/M2 and E/N/S2
That's the exact purpose, no one autobattles literally everything, not even Warhammerfags
>>
>>2470212
stop lying man... You could easily destroy massive stacks of troops with 4 gothic cavalry lol
>>
>>2470401
at some point late at night or after 8 or more hours playing the game you just press autoresolve... Fuck this shit, fighting some random 30 minutes battle inside a castle or worse.
>>
>>2470447
>after 8 or more hours playing the game
that's a (You) problem
>>
>>2470401
Ive seen MP lobbies where they dont fight manual battles until they have doomstacks

Autoresolve spam is more of a symptom of another problem Total War games have, which is that a long campaign or full map conquest is too time-consuming and tedious to properly fight every battle so once a playthrough reaches a certain point, it's easier to just auto-resolve everything since whatever losses you take from not microing can be easily replenished. Short campaigns feel better to play for this reason, even if they typically end way before getting access to any of the best units.
I do agree that auto-resolve shouldn't really be a thing in Total War, since the point of the franchise has always been real-time large field battles.
While this might not be everyone's cup of tea, I think Total War could actually benefit from having more scripted or linear campaigns that don't drag out as long as the traditional grand strategy map campaigns do.

it's just ruined with the ez button can't fix it now, just force the player to do the battles you know half the game.
>>
>>2470180
You don't have to use it. Skill issue.
>>
>>2470180
I don't want to manually fight shitter stacks
>>
On top of all the issues touched on ITT you're forgetting the big one:
Total War has turned into a giant stat-check. You show up with better units or you die. In the old games you could show up with lower quality units and use tactics like hammer & anvil to outperform more expensive troops but the same tactic does dick nothing in Rome 2 and onwards because of morale being effectively removed as a feature, healthbars taking the teeth out of cavalry units and surrounding the enemy being made into a useless gesture against higher quality enemy troops. And that's not even mentioning the fact that auto-resolve is
1. Completely risk-free because you can see the result before even clicking the button.
2. A victory in auto-resolve wiping out every single enemy unit every single time (further elminating the need for cavalry because you don't need cavalry to run people down if you have a wipe-out-everyone-button that is also risk-free to use)
>>
>>2470180
you don't have to use it, so stop complaining
>>
>>2470182
If a stack is that much weaker, they should just surrender/flee automatically. No autoresolve needed.
>>
>>2470183
Sounds like you just suck dick if you can't do better than auto resolve.
>>
>>2470980
Add that killing routers in manual battle is absolute pain. Especially some better units. Like your cavalry can chase them whole battlefield and just kill few when in older titles you just slaughtered them with ease.
It's not like AR is too good, it's more than AR is to good compared to manual battles because they are broken and suck.
>>
>>2470182
maybe, just maybe, there is a problem with the strategic layer
>>
>>2470180
>no strategy just stacks of units
you're confusing strategy with tactics, winning every single battle regardless of numbers because the AI is bad is a lot more shallow than letting the dice roll
>>
Yeah bro I'd love to waste 10 minutes (from the tactical layer loading screen back to the strategic layer) fighting a battle of my deathstack against 3 enemy units that I know I'll win with close to nil casualties.
>>
>>2470180
Nah its necessary because it can get tedious sometimes to fight a tiny army of 4 peasants and a general, just auto-resolve useless battles.

>>2470210
>>2470212
These guys get it, there needs to be reasons NOT to use it beyond how it deletes your cav in rome 2 and shogun 2.

It needs to be that losses are serious when its a more balanced battle and that you can magically wait for units at the edge of your empire to get top tier unit replenishment.

It doesn't need to be full retraining, maybe noble units need retraining whereas peasant levies can be fulfilled in settlements not necessarily having all the military buildings.

That is inbetween magic in the new games and the old games needing you to retrain actual peasants with basic spears.
