new game from ex-fireaxis devs
xcom 3 never ever
>>
looks like scripted premade maps and no fog of war. Little to no replayablity.

I was hyped but now I'm gonna wait.
>>
>>2474895
>no fog of war
and thats a good thing
>>
>>2474888
Man this woulda sold well if you were rebels or empire and not random LARPers.
>>
>>2474888
Are you excited to be non binary trannies and explore transness and queerness in your epic nu wars adventure? I'm not!
>>
loved nu-xcom so i will buy this like a sucka
>>
first opinions. Not into an actual game yet.

>char creation is heavily woke, no white male presets though hawk does default to a white male.
>only body type 1-2 for gender
>only 1-2 face types are actually masculine, the rest are el goblino tier ugly or female.
>can only select from premade faces, no in depth customization
>armor appears cosmetic only
>no custom jedi

considering a refund before the 2 hours are up, seriously.
>>
>>2476417
OK but how is the gameplay?
>>
>>2474888
seems ok
>>
>>2476419
only done the tutorial right now but it seems very much like x-com which is not surprising.
>>
>>2476426
That's good. Pretty much what I was hoping for.
>>
>>2476430

some things different from modern x-com.

>3 actions per turn instead of 2
>moving is not based on a grid system but does snap to cover.
>it shows you what targets can be seen/fired at and the chances to hit in movement mode
>overwatch is by cone instead of entire line of sight.

runs like shit apparently
>>
you can run just as far in 2/3 moves per turn as you can with 60 time units.

>bu-but I have to end my turn where I shot instead of being able to duck back behind cover
have you ever thought of not being a gay little pussy and just standing out there like a real man?
plus there's always some perk that lets you move after shooting
>>
>>2476505
Noticed a couple glitches like units gliding instead of walking and my performance is good but I'm on a decent rig and running at 1080p.
>>
Does this game have a proper campaign or is this over in 12 hours with no replayability?
>>
>>2476611
supposedly there's roughly 30 hours of missions but so far they are all very heavily scripted. Either kill all enemies, or collect item and exfiltrate while infinite enemies spawn. Maps are tiny too and not much room to do stuff.
>>
>>2476658
That sounds worrying, people on the Steam forums compared it to Chimera Squad.
>>
>nu-disney dialog and characters
>diversity out of the ass
>gameplay is xcom but worse on every aspect
sad
>>
Oh and the main character gets referred to as they and their (possessive). We all know its because they were to cheap to have the VAs record too different lines for he/she but it also doubles as wokeslop.
>>
Lots of negative reviews about performance. That's a big shame.
>>
>>2476693
>We all know its because they were to cheap to have the VAs record too different lines for he/she
This was never a problem for any RPG game, but suddenly it is for a fucking star wars licensed game?
It's a very conscious and deliberate decision to explore transness and queerness instead of making it a normal game for normal people. It being cheaper to produce is just an extra cherry on top.
>>
I'm playing on hard iron mam, it is way too easy.
>>
this game has absolutely zero polish that makes XCOM standout so well among the crowd
>>
>so far all the main villains are Indians
Kek
>>
Alright, everyone owes me 100 Separatist scalps. Clanker head units also accepted.

All the human options besides default male Hawks suck, cannot make a QT but you can be an ayylmao. I didn't try a Twilek female, maybe they look better than the human female goblins.
However, male Hawks VA being southern fried is pretty good. Cast is doing a good job from what I have heard.

Annoyed they force you to get a guy killed like an idiot in the tutorial. Ultra settings sc as a reference for those interested
>>
>>2476851
x-com staple at this point. the first mission in EU had the entire squad save one get killed.

I didn't see all the options but from what little i saw its " wide jaw black woman (forma de twilek) so not any better.
>>
I'm still early in the game but so far there seems to be very little tactics involved, just blasting to destroy cover then killing the exposed enemies. Humanoids are unrealistically durable and only the b1 droids go down with one hit. This goes for your people as well as they can shrug off a lot of damage and have to be brought down 3 times in order to die permanently. Maps are very small and there's hardly enough room to flank enemies.
>>
>>2476919
sounds like a cross between chimera squad and nuxcom
>>
>>2474888
Utter shit.
4 character limit was an obvious red flag.
Literally chimera squad tier garbage

>>2477051
pad things out and makes people think the 'game' is larger than it is. These combat maps are fucking tiny.
>>
I played like 25min and refunded. Game def feels like a torrent kind of game rather than a buy.
>>
>>2476851
>Annoyed they force you to get a guy killed like an idiot in the tutorial
He had death flags on him since he appears
>>
Okay there's a bit of difficulty when you reach the level where you meet the jedi, surprised me. I fully admit I am ass at TBS though.
>>
>>2477051
Because walking through a hallway for 5 minutes, following quest markers that are spaced 10 feet in between, before being allowed to start a battle is "immersive".
Seriously though, why are there so many fucking quest markers just to show you the way through empty linear corridors? It feels like a parody.
>>
>>2476963
It's a cross between Chimera Squad and Midnight Suns, complete with a shitty hub level where you can walk around in third person and talk to your Glup Shittos in between missions.
>>
>>2477051
Instead of ant farm, this does Mass Effect at your base
>>
I'm really enjoying the game so far. Not much technical issues too. I'm starting to wonder if people just want to hate the game.
>>
>>2477198
I don't hate it (well story I don't like) but xcom 2 with star wars skin mods just plays much better than this game and I already owned that.
>>
>>2477198
The game is fun but its overpriced, its a 30, maybe 40 dollar game, not a 50 dollar game.
>>
File: Untitled-1.jpg (1.33 MB, 3440x1440)

I've had a revelation.

Unlike other games like Starfield, the reason most of the faces are ugly isn't because the devs are just bad at their job, it's because by design almost none of the face models are made for the default white skin and hair settings. Trying to make a white character using a African, Indian or Chinese face model is why you end up with ugly characters.

Picture related, it's the exact same face (Face 11), first with the default settings and then with more appropriate settings. You go from the ugliest white dude you've ever seen to just an average black guy.
>>
Do you gain something for risking it and killing more enemeis before escaping to the extracting point? XP or something or are rewards fixed?
>>
>>2477218
Rewards are fixed.
>>
Does the game give "aim bonuses on miss" on all difficulties except Expert/Legend like in XCOM 2?
>>
Its always nice to have a modern turn based game that isnt high fantasy. Sick and tired of the Orcs&Elves&Sorcery crap. Also it has no unnecessary lewd shit so thats a plus (it keeps the coomers away).
>>
>>2477392
xcom 2, civ7, xenonauts 2, menace, battle brothers, wasteland 3 etc. I could go on, but you are just being a little faggot.
>ooo there aren't any fucking games
When there are fucking loads.
>>
>>2477446
nta but can you give full list? I only played nucom, bb and dd
>>
>>2477460
off the top of my head theres wartales, dice gambit, crown wars. the warhammer games mechanicus and chaos gate, troubleshooter, phantom doctrine, phoenix point, warhounds. a shitload more if you include jrpg-type turn-based tactics, like fell seal, symphony of war, valkyria chronicles
>>
>>2477446
Yeah but you haven't have a big title for quite a while. Theres always some shit but its usually low budget.
>>
>>2477502
big name TBS is shit because it has to be dumbed down for the normies.
>>
From what ive seen ill pick the game up when it first goes on sale. 50 is a bit much but still looks fun.

>>2477392
>modern turn based game that isnt high fantasy.
Related to that, is there one that is set in a historical medieval setting? No elves, orcs or magic. But just historical knights and whatnot.
>>
>>2477460
What aspect do you like most? I'll try and come up with a tailored list when I wake up.
>>
For the people that played it. Is there a class that just isnt good for your character to take?
>>
>>2477504
Field of Glory II: Medieval is turn-based tactical but it's a pure wargame with no economy and basebuilding.
Wartales has a magic-free medieval type setting with no monsters aside from some undead. The Expedition games (Conquistador, Viking, Rome) have historical settings. Crown Wars: The Black Prince is set in the Hundred Years war, King Arthur: A Knights Tale is set in Arthurian England and Dice Gambit's setting is inspired by Renaissance Italy but these games are full of fantasy and magic.
>>
>>2477517
Yeah thats the thing I dislike with having a main character, if a class is shit you just remove your buddy with that class, but what if you mistakenly chose that for your mc?
Guess they cant comprehend people wanting to play with unknown dudes, people must have a character to "be inmersed in"
That being said if its similar to xcom I dont see anything bad outside of the recon looking like a late game class if hp scales with time and sharpsooters ultimate being amazing in early and not so good in late.
>>
>>2477533
>>2477517
Nvm you can change class between missions
>>
>>2477513
The preparation. Outfitting dudes, checking stats, formation where possible, taking right supplies. DD was like a drug in that regard.
>>2477482
Good list, thanks.
But, no JA3? Is it really that mediocre?
>>
>>2477593
no i just forgot about it. i like ja3 the most of the xcom-likes i played
>>
>unlock second specializations
>put quickdraw on my high level sharpshooter
>activate zero in
>massacre entire b1 droid army in one turn
Welcome back XCOM 2 Sharpshooter.
>>
for me it's xcom and phoenix point and nothing else comes close
>>
xcom 2 started out bad and got worse, i have little hope for this
>>
It's fun but I was expecting more from "former Firaxis devs".
-Cuts out all the ambush/overwatch trap bullshit, just combat.
-Overwatch is a cone that reduces accuracy the bigger you make the cone. It's also functionally suppression. Huge improvement over xcom overwatch.
-Visuals are great, but demanding on GPU.
-The UI looks great.

Issues
-Base building reduced to a list of tiered upgrades.
-The character creator is some DEI bullshit. There is one white male face. There is one decent looking black male face. Everything else is an ugly mongoloid peasant abomination. It's pretty clear most faces are just reused alien face assets.
-The assistant character is some angry self-righteous bitch straight from a Netflix serie. If I was running a PMC, there would be a bullet in her brain.
-Class system is boring. Four skills you can level per class. The skill upgrades are usually just +1 damage or +1 meter to skill.
-Seems kind of easy. Straight from the start, the assisting is enough to trivialize the game. Once you start inflating your damage numbers, it just gets easier.
>>
>>2477755
once you reach a certain mission around 8 cycles in the difficulty ramps up a little. Bit of a wake up call for me at least.
>>
>>2477755
the character creator is some next level bullshit. unbelievably ugly. I refunded and torrented instead no way I am giving niggers money for that.
>>
>>2477769
>a certain mission around 8 cycles in
You mean the cultist cave fight?

It's true that the new enemies that start showing up after that are tougher than the droids and gangbanger you've been fighting up to that point, but I wouldn't say it's a significant jump in difficulty. You jujst need to focus fire on whatever nigger has the highest SPACE AIDS counter because they'll chimp out and heal to full. Also PROTIP: If a melee enemy chimps out and goes invisible (which is the most dangerous bonus IMO), you can just remove the invisibility by using an AoE attack on the spot where they were standing.
>>
>>2477788
That fight was a bit annoying but it also annoys me that I have to fill my space mana bar to use my rocket launcher and shit like that. It feels like they are taking more from that marvel game than xcom.
>>
>>2477460
>>2477482
Gears Tactics is worth a playthrough. It's often overlooked because of muh console wars etc. but it's surprisingly good.

Mechanically the game is basically Chimera Squad with some Midnight Suns influence.

>>
>>2477859
>Aren't the manchildren that obsessed over this garbage in their 40s now?
That just means they've got more disposable income.
>>
From what Ive seen from other people playing the most broken shit is prolly the mandalorian darts+detonation along with a scout or 2. He just spams that crap on each enemy and if they are close together each dart is basically an extra attack when he finally detonates the thing. He can wipe an entire spawn point (or close), including tougher non droideka enemies. The baroness cunt as a gunslinger+sharposhooter with vicious stack might be nasty as well if she gets close but not as OP.
>>
>>2477872
The baroness is actually really nice as a scout, because her killsteal ability lets her constantly trigger the scout's bonus advantage on kill ability.

How do smoke grenades work exactly? Do they only grant chance to miss against those standing in it or does it also reduce accuracy for those firing from within? Also does it work midway or does it need to be on top of the enemy/ally?
>>
>>2478129
they just buff units in the tiles with smoke
>>
None of the starting classes make sense.

The blue manlet has a melee that refunds AP on kill. He should be a soldier to boost melee damage, and it gives him a second melee after he has his AP refunded.
The baroness executes low health enemies. She should be scout for the extra advantage on kill.
Tricks gets fully healed on death with no injuries. He should be a heavy(with a sniper) to taunt and retaliate.
Anything works on Hawk, but scoundrel makes the most sense early on. Grinding up bond stats on the MC is the min-max strat. Medic might also work. I don't use medic, so I don't really know.

Can I make a full Clone squad?
Do I have to accept aliens into my unit?
Is there romance?
Am I allowed to serve the Empire or am I forced into the Resistance (which modern writers have made lame and gay)
>>
Just watched the order 66 scene on youtube, this shit is so ass
>>
>>2478211
>Can I make a full Clone squad?
You can just put everyone in clone armor cosmetics. You can also just fire all the unique companions and hire generics. Generic characters can be totally customized, changing their personality/race/gender/descriptions or whatever.
>Empire or resistance
The game is Republic vs Separatists. You're railroaded into helping the Republic.
>Romance
No
>Aliens
Some unique characters are forced on missions, but you can customize your generic operators to be humans.
>>
>>2478237
>The game is Republic vs Separatists. You're railroaded into helping the Republic.
only the first half, at some point order 66 happens and you end up on the other side of the empire, including a cameo by a villain from Fallen Order
>>
>>2478237
Can those generic characters be Clones? It's not a dealbreaker necessarily even if it would be cool, I don't mind playing the non-GAR side of the Republic's military force.
>Republic
That's fine and I wasn't expecting a Separatist path or anything but I know it's set at the twilight of the war, does that railroading extend to not being able to remain loyal to Palpatine? I hate being forced to go Rebel, it loses all meaning if I'm not the one to decide it.
>Romance
Shame since there seems to be a few girls in the crew and love plays a pretty heavy role in Star Wars

Nice try. It'll be the Muppets. Disney hires them to do properties that Disney has bungled, to get autists talking about the property, again.
Clearly, it works, I'm proof of it.

I felt amazed, realizing that the guns were basically classes that you sneak into the 8 standard classes, the talent system is there for making broken bullshit (but you can also just use it for resources) and a second class on top of it all breaks things open. It doesn't have the same crunch I want, but there's a bit of crunch in it. I'm going to sit down with it in a bit.

Just finished the game and I don't feel like doing a second playthrough. Too story and character driven compared to Xcom
>>
Never played XCom so my take wont be as refined as some others in regards to gameplay
Also not finished yet

Gameplay
>the core is fun to play with and mostly works well
>some of the class's abilities seem useless
>Overwatch has a small but noticeable chance to not work
>you can change classes and weapons freely to experiment without consequence. Personal talents for story characters can't be changed, but most are better than what you use for generic operators that can be change at will
>Even 20+ missions in with decent builds, a certain faction becomes very spongy
>Armor is purely cosmetic. Wish it wasn't
>you don't buy new guns, just new mods for guns
>you can change almost every part of hired ops (idk how I feel about it)
>camera is bad, need zoom out

Cosmetics/Characters
>ugly faces everywhere
>unironically jew noses and female bug eyes for most faces
>hate male Hawks voice acting (like a half assed southern draw mixed with nails, have to wear Clone helmet so it's tolerable)
>4/6 main operators have been enjoyable, men and women received equal attention in writing it seems
>the 2 non combat female crew got modern girlboss attitudes. one still is well written in spite of that
>Not a lot of helmet choices which are important to not see faces
>an ok amount of clothes, more armor needed
>the male hired operator voices are all good
>female hired ops voices seem 50/50
>the combat action are pretty cinematic
>there is wokeness in regard that the 2 special classes (jedi and mandalorian) are both occupied by women, but they aren't written in a woke matter so far
>you can't change the look or aesthetically remove weapon mods that can make iconic weapons look retarded
>main bad needs better writing

Optimization
>sometimes has short lags after ending turn or when overwatch activated
>only had to restart once so far
>long loading first launch
>sometimes droids animation doesn't load and they glide to positions, never seen it happen during the entire combat
>>
Playing this makes me think of how fantastic the game would have been if they let it be more open ended. Some mount and blade esque starwars open world where you run a mercenary group and can take on any job and build your notoriety in specific parts of the galaxy.

Instead the game has to railroad you into this shit ass story that no one cares about. God it pisses me off that so many people making these AAA/AA games hate videogames and just want to use them as a medium to tell their own stories. Sorry! No player expression, no role playing, no immersion, no fun, we have to tell our stupid story about lame ass bugs and get in all of our tired old cameos from all the characters the normie cattle know and love
>>
>>2478573
STAR WARS: ZERO REPLAYABILITY
>>
>>2478573
>Instead the game has to railroad you into this shit ass story that no one cares about.
There are two reasons for this
One, it's much cheaper to make a linear story game instead of a mount and blade clone. It should be apparent given how many linear story slop games are there and how many games attempt to clone mount and blade (none, because it's very difficult and a huge project)
Two, star wars is a pozzed licensed IP where yidsney needs to have total control over the narrative. If you let players make their own story they could... oh my fauci... make an imperial sided warband and genocide space minorities
>>
>>2478243
probably my least favorite nu-wars invention
order 66 didn't matter if there are 900000000000000000 force users left all over the galaxy, necessitating the existence of 90000000 other force users trained to hunt other force users
>>
>>2478605
the old EU also had a bunch of order 66 survivors and turned vader into this memetic badass which nothing could kill because of his plot armor.

I like the more modern take that Vader was damaged quite badly and the only reason the Jedi couldn't stop him was that anyone who could was hiding more from the clones/stromtroopers than vader, who spent most of his time sulking on musitfar pining over padme. When time to fight an actual jedi knight instead of a padawan he struggled.
>>
>>2478573
the game even sets up perfectly for a split campaign with order 66
imagine having to choose either side to continue the story and lose either trick or tel
>>
>>2478615
>lose either trick or tel
>lose the bland generic clone that you can 99% recreate as a random character anyway (and the 1% that you can't recreate isn't even good), or the unique character with the unique class
Eh. I get it from a story perspective, but from a gameplay perspective this would be retarded.

The thing I hate most about it, other then the exact point you made about somehow every Padawan surviving Order 66, is that it steals Vader's role. He isn't just a military leader, he isn't just a scary walking piece of propaganda, he is THE threat eliminator. If a Jedi survived or some force user wants to try rising up or some other claimant of the Sith is making noise then Vader is THE one to turn up and kill them. If donutsteal OC no.57 has that job then they just do it lamer then Vader does and makes him basically redundant. That's partly why I don't like Mara Jade's origin, even if she is way more acceptable then modern shit.
>>2478614
>I like the more modern take that Vader was damaged quite badly and the only reason the Jedi couldn't stop him was that anyone who could was hiding more from the clones/stromtroopers than vader, who spent most of his time sulking on musitfar pining over padme. When time to fight an actual jedi knight instead of a padawan he struggled
Genuinely one of the weirdest Star Wars takes I've heard, why the fuck do you want Darth Vader to be written as some weak loser? What could possibly be interesting about that? Vader is the best fighter outside of Sidious' lighting schtick and Obiwan's ragebait, that is perfect and should never change. The bug eyed freak from Fallen Order shouldn't have lasted as long as she did against Vader in my opinion, though it should never be an automatic win.

Same, it's a good concept, running a mercenary company during the Clone Wars, be nice to take contracts from both sides, see from both sides of the war from a non-jedi/clone point of view while getting rich on the side

But no, you are stuck working with some Republic glowies fighting these Coil nobodies, and everything feels so hand-holding on how things play out. I would rather have some more choices that affect the story than just losing some bond that you can get back in the next mission

The mount and blade system wont work so good for star wars (too messy and it doesnt work good for dozens of mooks running around with blasters) but a mass effect-esque RPG (2-3 companions tops) or even a solo adventure in an open world would be absolutely great. Something with freedom and not stuck on to force users like kotor or being forced to sneak like outlaws. With space combat on top it would be great but since a budget for such a thing would be large and they need to pay for the IP on top of that the chances of getting something like this are slim.
>>

It has to be said, Temuera bodies Dee Bradley Baker.
>>
Easily ignorable because there's exactly zero chance any Star Wars franchise product is good.

I generally like Baker but he's only alright as the clones, while most of Temuera's Battlefront 2 narrations are still stuck in my head to this day.
That said I'm not against other people voicing them now and again, giving each squad member their own VA worked well in Republic Commando

>the old EU also had a bunch of order 66 survivors
This argument is being brought up all the time and yet the EU isn't swarming with force sensitive minorities like yidsney nu-wars are.
Moreover, the EU was never considered canon, it was always a realm of fanfiction and even Lucas said so. So every time some writer wanted to include the force in their story, they had to invent a new force sensitive character, and they had the creative license to do so.
Yidsney on the other hand is claiming that not only 9000 jedi survived order 66, the empire had to even hire some of the jedi they somehow didn't kill as inquisitors to hunt down other jedi. You know, to do Vader's job.
So Vader in nu-canon is just a saturday morning villain whose job is cackling evil-ly but slightly quieter than the Emperor who's the main cackler.
>memetic badass which nothing could kill because of his plot armor
Why are you complaining that the chosen one has plot armor? Do you get mad at water being wet?
>I like the more modern take that Vader was damaged quite badly and the only reason the Jedi couldn't stop him was that anyone who could was hiding more from the clones/stromtroopers than vader, who spent most of his time sulking on musitfar pining over padme. It's also makes the Clones look mega retarded if that many Jedi escaped which also in turn makes all the actual Jedi Masters who were murdered by the Clones seem extra mega retarded if mere no-name Jedi survived and they didn't.
Like in the Order 66 scene in game, why the fuck are the Clones having a discussion with Zero Company? Why aren't they just firing on the Jedi the moment they see her? Why would they even entertain the idea of arresting her when if they had tried that on Plo Koon, Ki Adi Mundi or Aayla they would have lost their surprise advantage and probably lose? Why do those two clones help that shitty actor masquerading as a Republic Officer when they could be lunging at the Jedi when their entire life purpose is now to do exactly that? I really do hate how moronic the modern writers are and how lame they make everything. I liked the Good Soldiers Follow Orders bit but it was wasted by the wider context of the scene being shitty

I made Hawks a Sharpshooter with a pistol. Some weapon mods let you apply status effect on hits and even without the guaranteed hit at any range special shot he basically has 100% accuracy at all times, so entire enemy team is debuffed to shit and I practically never have to worry about overwatch. He kinda sucks at soloing bosses but that's what the underlings are for.
>>
>>2478242
>>2478246
There are pre-made clones. You only get the ability to recruit them (and your custom ones, I'm pretty sure) after a specific point in the story because loose Clones doing mercenary woro would need to be explained away (Trick got a discharge and even that is considered weird, MC had to pull strings for it) since they're supposed to be rare. Early on you get a mission to save a Clone guy and you might think he joins but he just goes "GOOD SOLDIERS FOLLOW ORDERS THANKS FOR THE HELP CIVILIANS BUT I GOTTA GET BACK TO LYNCHING CLANKAS" and fucks off back to the GAR.
>>
>>2479201
It is a very weird scene. Later on you even get an explanation from Trick that the Stillwatch relayed Order 66 to him and told him to stay "undercover", and I can understand that maybe the spook could have delayed the fight a tiny bit by telling the Clones to avoid a firefight with his other non-Clone assets but they really should have pushed more aggresively and surrounded them the second Hawks shows any reluctance in handing off the Jedi scum.
But yes, taking control of Trick and only being able to fire on the Jedi is pretty good.
>>
>>2479606
does that mission change if you get trick killed (can he be killed or is it game over?)
>>
>>2479602
Most Clones are literally just droids larping as organics, and that's why they get so butt hurt when you remind them they in fact have no free will. Filoni's mid ass show wont change my mind

I still love clones tho
>>
>>2479610
I liked the old canon that the clones all knew of plot to begin with and hated the jedi so much that when palps gave the order they all gunned the jedi down, no brain chip fuckery involved.
>>
>>2479609
Pretty sure you can get him killed. That being said I don't even remember him saying anything during that mission's cutscenes, he just switches sides during actual gameplay (though you are still forced to take the shot yourself).
Bigger question is what happens if Tel-Rea is dead.

>>
>>2479630
It's interesting because if they wanted to make a Rebel story be actually unique for once they could just write you as being a Separatist Holdout or mercenary who uses a company of Battle Droids that you can customise like you said. I've always thought just how terrifying Battle Droids would be against regular criminals and other non-military forces, especially if you remove the personality software from them required for them to operate independently from a central signal. I remember really enjoying that Tyber Zann mission in Empire At War where you go to an old Droid factory and get Droidekas.

Like Jae's quest for example, telling us her friend who gone undercover has gone silent and we must save him!

Uppercut's uppercut is racial/unique to him
I think you can pair it up with assault 's built in shove as well, but I figure kabb is better guaranteeing critical shoves as scoundrel(procs on both collisions and the initial damage)
>>
>>2480595
It's just retarded balancing. She's ridiculously OP if you bring at least one scout to feed her Advantage.

>>2479840
The clone trooper's melee attack is from his class. If you chance his class he loses the melee attack. Kabb's melee attack is unique to him and he keeps it no matter what.
It's also a really good attack, because you get a full refund of the action points used on the attack (including any movement that's part of the attack) if you kill the target. Punching them into water or off a bottomless cliff also counts for this.
>>
>>2480606
Considering I made trick a bulwark and bulwark is expected to not do any dying, I really should respect my $$$ recruit to tonk so I can make more cash, I haven't gotten any mileage out of trick's unique talent

Which is the opposite of what I could say for kabb
>Hobble around the map uppercutting people out of cover and into pits
>Get AP refunds to just run back to cover and start marking shit
>>
>>2480610
Trick's unique ability is massively overrated. It's just more valuable the worse you are at the game and since the game is pretty casual you get a lot of shitters playing it. Even on a tank build, the generic recruit defensive ability (A Life of Labor) is better since it helps you not die but also adds a bit of damage.

>>
>>2480345
If you're referring to the gold/yellow plot objective about scouting, that means that it's happening off screen and you have one cycle to do a different mission and pass the time before the main plot advances. Generally it's a good time to go after one of the coil upgrades.
>>
>>2480612
My first reflex was also to make Trick a Bulwark and I really liked the idea of having a Clone guy around but then at halfway point I realized I only had his special be useful a total of one time and that's because I made a conscious decision to walk him into a whole bunch of shit to get past a mission faster.
It's really hard for me to justify bringing him around now.

I think this game suffers heavily from only 4 guys in the field. MAYBE if you were forced to use 4 guys but could run multiple missions every cycle, maybe as an upgrade or something so you'd at least have Team A and Team B, maybe Team C unlockable by a specific event like last utility and gun mod slots.
The 6 guys mod with more enemies to compensate is quite fun
Unrelated, I can tell that this game actually has a lot of character and the guys making it actually liked the whole thing enough to make it look really cool, but holy fucking shit it's very obvious they ran out of time and out of budget to actually do what they wanted and polish it up. A bunch of systems scream Potemkin village and then it's also full of minor annoying convinience issues that are minor enough that nobody bothered fixing it along the way despite them being very obvious.
>>2478793
Here's hoping that modding wizards make a Z-COM Long War overhaul. I already saw a mod that brings back the removed Imperial faction with all unique units as enemies in random missions, I think it has a bunch of clones in it still so maybe it'd be possible to create a proper Republic faction as enemies. My biggest gripe with the game is honestly that Infinite Coil looks like ass and feels out of place in Star Wars, I'm enjoying fighting robots and even regular bandits more than them.
>I notice that standing next to her, she is tall. The player character is a manlet
Is Hawks even the smallest height? I think he's medium, Runa is just tall. We have Anakin in-game to compare and I think they're about the same, so that'd be what, 190cm? Hawks is probably comfortably ~175cm, which is... manlet in Europe but above average in USA.

That's why there's a 50%/100% enemy count increase mod to be used alongside the 6 guys mod, but that just seems to make AOE attacks much more important. It's not even that bad in "normal" combat but the base game issue of enemies starting the missions (or getting reinforced) very clustered before they spread out on subsequent turns only gets magnified.

Is the secondary class to assault if you run out of spray charges, but goes well with scoundrel because -armor and scout because the AP refund and +advantage on kill can get you a lot of bullshit

Playing on expert/permadeath, is there any point to killing enemies or should I just be rushing the objective? Every time I try to sit and whittle down the enemies there's reinforcements every 2 rounds like it's FE awakening. Also, is there some trick to the other weapons? Blaster rifle feels like the best one to use, repeater could fuck you up with AP cost and low damage, snipers have high AP cost, pistols feel good for droids but that's it

>>

Your priority should be maxing out your roster and getting the passive lounge XP asap
>>
>>2481885
>You've got a huge galaxy and yet so few stories to tell
That's because it's a galaxy designed to one story, and it's a very simple good vs evil fairy tale. It's a good fairy tale, but that's still all it is. Everything else is just awkwardly tacked on because the fans are never satisfied and will pay for every scrap.
>>
>>2481890
Longarms are made for off-turn damage, where their AP cost becomes irrelevant but their high base damage and crit multiplier won't. Assist, overwatch, retaliation, that's what you should use a longarm for. It'll outdamage all other weapon types easily in those cases.
The Sharpshooter class is pretty mid, though you can still use combos like Identify Weakness + Precision Shot to do reliable single-target damage at long range.

Repeater is easily the worst weapon type. It does good damage if you use the 3 AP attack, but that stops you from moving and its range isn't good enough to play sniper with it, so you need to waste AP walking up to the enemy anyway. And if you're using less than 3 AP it doesn't compare well against the other weapon types. It's off-turn damage is also extremely low compared to other weapons, since it only uses the 1 AP attack for those.
To make Repeater worth a shit they should at least make bonuses apply multiple times if you use multiple AP to shoot. A pistol using 3 AP to attack gets to apply its damage bonuses three times, but a repeater doing the same only gets them once.

I suppose I don't really consider that an issue since I love the swtor and kotor soundtracks, which are both not Williams, so I don't have that fear of missing out.
>You've got a huge galaxy and yet so few stories to tell
There is a lot of stories to tell and a lot have been told already, from Clone Commandos to Rebel spies to Imperial Pilots. Of course I want more of these but I usually just go back to old Legends stuff rather then look to new stuff for good stories. Take Zero Company for instance, the main plot layout is pretty strong and a classic Star Wars Rebel set up but so many specific writing choices and scenes annoy me that I don't really consider it to be a story I want to go back to. I hate how modern Clones are treated and written, I hate how Filoni's ocs are in everything and present everywhere, I hate how immature and incompetent the Imperials are whilst making the Rebels act like children who would get caught immediately if they were not destined to win by the story and I hate how everything must be a reference to something else. Now that is not to say it isn't salvageable but I always think about how the same scene would look but with a different writer.
>>
Now I wonder if I like the writing in ZC because it's actually good (I think it is) or if it's because I spent the past several months playing Kojima games and his strange inhuman golems make the characters in this game seem much better in contrast
>>
>>2482098
the writing is definitely more natural and lacks a lot of the millennial humor and/or psudeowank writing that has taken hold the past decade
Too bad the studio was gutted
>>
>>2481911
Dont heavies have like the retribution skill or whatever its called? It seems good with the repeaters. Thats the only combo I can think of for them.
>>
>>2481709
Rifles are workhorses. If you aren't feeling inspired on a build, use them.
Pistols are for Heavies to taunt and counter with, or for Scouts to spot with. Plus the aforementioned on-hit mods.
Repeaters are for exploiting spotted enemies or for Kabb to use after he uppercut-kills. Not bad on your Mando to jump in, blast away and jump out, either.
Longarms are good for Scoundrels, Medics and assist builds. Scoundrels get their own pseudo assist, and Medics should be buffing allies with most of their AP for the first few rounds, so the only attacks they make are the big meaty 100% accuracy assists.

Admittedly, that's just my thinking for now.
>>
>>2482098
>>2482114
It's not the writing of the characters or even the dialogue necessarily that primarily annoys me, more the setup of scenes and how things playout. The most egregious example of modern shit writing that comes to me is the Order 66 scene. Simply compare how the Clones actually conducted their murders in the movie vs how they do it in game, it is night and day. You can see this too with Ahsoka in the last episode of the Clone Wars - how she somehow is able to avoid getting killed, gets a Clone on her side and then has a conversation with them in the hanger instead of them just rushing her whilst firing everything they have like they did in the movie (which actually killed Jedi). It's a little thing but it just sticks with me, same thing with Bennic. Compare the way he talks, moves and acts with someone like Yularen or Tarkin - I simply do not buy him as a high ranking commander. Now this is pedantic but my point is there is a reason they hired Peter Cushing instead of John Candy.
>>
>>2482140
bennic isn't a high ranking commander since he was a lieutenant at the start of the game and was freshly a captain when order 66 happened
Low level officers are no different than low level grunts
>>
I'm enjoying a longarm gunslinger. The extra crit chance is nice and the pistol chain kills makes it feel right at home with that being there in xcom 2
>>
>>2482146
I can see what you are getting at but I have to disagree with officers being no different then their soldiers, armies just do not function like that. At least the ones that want to win wars. Now could there be a Republic officer who is down to Earth and ingratiates themselves with their men? Of course. I just think that Bennic is not portrayed or acted well when it comes to actually being an officer. If I'm going to get really nitpicky and annoying, I hate his body language. He's basically dancing in the Order 66 scene when he's talking to Hawks in a way that no real officer would. He looks everywhere and waves his arms around more like a militiaman then an actual soldier. Now this could just be his character as someone who really does not belong in his job but even then I would prefer something more Partagaz or Krennic, it's more aesthetic.
>>
>>2482152
I'm not saying the roles of an officer and soldier are the same, but their demeanor won't be that different.
>>
>>2482116
Believe it or not, retribution damage works best with longarms because of their high base stats. But if you want a more offensive tank the pistol can taunt 3 enemies a round so you don't need to spend your adv on the taunt skill
>>
>>2481935
>He won't but is anyone else missing him in this game
I think they use it when it's appropriate and relevant
And I like it that way, it makes it more special
How cool is that that it manages to make you want to feel nostalgic instead of forcing it
>>2481943
Idk, I think it's in main upgrades
>>
>>2482098
I think for me it's partially a "less is more" thing, a lot of the time characters these days are very in your face with their issues or telling you what they feel about everything you do and it hogs up a lot of the game but here the conversations back at the den are brief and even when they're about their backstories tend to be fairly to the point

As mentioned, repeaters have the worst off-turn damage (which includes retribution) because off turn shots only use the shitty 1 AP version of the repeater.
There IS a combo that works with the repeater. You can fire a 3 AP shot with the repeater and then have the Astromech drip-feed AP to the repeater guy so they can take 1 AP shots afterwards. It's not amazing but it's the only way I can think of to get extra value out of a repeater, since it's just such an awkward weapon.

It's a shame the game doesn't have something like picture related for a real heavy weapon.
>>
>>2482257
I rotate 2-3 guys out depending on the mission
For every mission that your characters arent on, your ENTIRE ROSTER builds bond experience with each other
The sooner you fill out your roster cap, that's some times 5-6 bond trainings per mission available to, say, tell rea
It's fucking nuts and it incentivizes not having a "golden squad"
I deployed Hawks 100% of the time this first playthrough but for the lounge alone I might purposely not because it's essentially the batshit training center from wotc
>>

>>2482742
>3 utility slots open
>+1 uses to every consumable, and a perk to make it +1 more

>Mass reveal, spotted(+hit chance), -4 armor for 1 AP
>Flat 5% hit chance to all operators as a passive
>The ability to spend ap to grant someone else
>Has jump jets so not reliant on ladders to get up ledges
>Comes with a smoke grenade, concussion grenade, and impact grenade so you can immediately unequip and recoup your recruit cost
Very versatile for building bonds (literally just existing) and in combat
>>
>>2482742
every time I bring a droid just for fun I never regret the decision. Their util is just so good and can make up for having 3 members.
>>
>>2482742
The scout is the advantage battery whereas the droid is the AP battery. Scout hawkes feeds soldiers nuke, the mandalorian darts and the gunslinger ultimate. Droid feeds battle hawkes, sharpshooters and gunslinger normal attacks. Droid has more nades too. It all depends on the party.
>>

It has the same issue as many other SW games as it becomes a lightbat instead of a lightsaber and you can only use it once per turn. Should be a one shot kill but that would be OP. The force abilities are way more useful. Noble stance should have a wider arc too.

On top of that, you don't have enough random soldier stats to have runs that feel different or novel in any way. Specially given the fact that every single soldier you have, including the unique ones, can have the classes freely swapped at any point, with zero penalty. And for the non-special soldiers you can even change their unique special bonus completely at will.
Imagine if you played Xcom2, and your best sniper, who had rolled a really good off-class ability died, and Instead of making due with your second best sniper, or training a new sniper, you just take any of your reserve units, and give them all the exact things your old sniper had.
Plus the fact that you don't really have "choices". so much as "what do you want first". There's no: "You can get this strong thing, but that locks you out of the other strong thing". You always get both. Plus: All of the unique characters passives are so much better than any of the rando character ones, why would you bother taking anyone else? (Except trick. Having a revival passive is planning for failure. Fuck planning for failure).

>>
>>2483752
Yeah but that's what I'm saying. It has reset. Xcom enemy unknown was a gamble, and then each expansion and the sequel and it's expansion we got essentially a bonus to it being good, by the devs being experienced with this title. There were some missteps (people didn't like rulers). But now that the studio is shuffled up, if there ever is an xcom 3, it has the same chance of being good as Biomutant or Fire Team Elite had. We can't say it would be good, we can't say it would be bad. It would be a total shot in the dark again.
>>
>>2483868
Chimera Squad was a bit overhated. They tried a spin-off, and famously x-com spinoffs don't do so well. They had an Idea to make a shorter "play on the go" style X-com-like game, but it didn't quite hit. I don't think one miss is reason to assume they had lost their sauce, just because they tried something different.
>midnight suns
See, Midnight Suns is actually a really good fucking game. Most people I know who actually played it, fucked with it heavily. It just flopped because (in my opinion) it came out at the height of marvel slop. People saw this and went: "Ugh, another cash grab from this franchise that isn't quite what we see on the big screen? Pass" And didn't give it a chance. But unlike shit like Avengers, Midnight Suns was actually really fucking good.
>>
>early game is alright, enemies are much numerous than xcom but you can clear most of them with one grenades and focus on the objective

A mercenary company game set a few years before Yavin would be great if it gave you the opportunity to work consistently with the Empire as freelancers, do wet work for the growing Rebel Alliance, stay completely neutral and credit hungry or do something crazy but cool like become Mandalorians (legends). You could upgrade/buy ships when you grow in strength and wealth, choose who you hire, choose how you finish jobs, really the lack of choice in modern Star Wars games really makes them pale in comparison to older games like kotor 1+2, swtor and Jedi Academy.

I'm at cycle 9. This game literally bores me to sleep. The cult combat is horrible, imagine if XCOM 2 just spammed ADVENT basic troops at you in high numbers for the entire first 10 hours.

Also I keep waiting for something to happen in the plot. Please tell me they kill the cult soon and the game finally gets to Order 66 and whatnot before cycle 20.

Trying to make a B team that’s only custom recruits because all i’ve used for 20 cycles is basically hawks/trick/astromech/other.

but my new recruits barely have focus points and i have no weapon/utility mods for them so theyre always getting injured. i’m so poor that i can’t buy equipment for them because the medical bays cost 50% of my income i get from missions. i try to save up to spend on den upgrades but some operations require credits and if you pick the wrong option you don’t get a reward. So there goes the rest of my income from that mission with nothing to show for it.

the gameplay is easy but the den economy is fucked. can’t afford anything so i can’t explore the game. no money for recruits, mods or upgrades so i’m forced to use the same A team lest my weak B team gets injured and i waste all my money healing them.

They needed some more mechanics like exhaustion to force you to run someone besides the A listers
>>
>>2486956
There is a mechanic
If you max out your bonds, you're incentivized to swap out as many as you can to build more bonds on your maxed out characters
Hawks being mandatory for like 30% of the missions makes it a bit awkward if he maxes out, but I won't be deploying my "golden triad" outside of maybe the final mission.
The big issue at that point is it genuinely takes 30ish cycles to max out so your problem is still a problem for 75% of the game

After beating the game (on normal) I'm not sure I like the resonance mechanic. I got pissed off a few times trying to kill 8 of them on the same map and half of them either had a few charge all the way to my units or healed and got a damage buff on top of it. Also some of these missions really seem like 5 operators on the map is the ideal because you can get fucked hard if you can't go through some fights fast enough. I dread going to expert because I just didn't find the later missions enjoyable.

Would've been nice to see different maps with environmental hazards, someone having a stealth field generator, an operator that has to be in "siege mode" to be effective (not like snipers but like a heavy machine gunner) and having different mission types like getting past a corridor undetected. Biggest grip for me is honestly how many units are thrown at the screen, how often they're reinforced and how much health they have WHILE getting a buff that nullifies all of that and only having 4 units. I found myself just bum-rushing to the pick up zone with someone like Trick but I'm not sure that was intended

>>

Resonance should have a limited range so you can be more strategic about which order you kil people in to minimize its effect. Also, it should have a much faster animation so you're not stuck for 2 minutes if you kill a bunch of dudes at once.

>>2488562

>>
>>2488563
I originally thought that was the case in one of the coil missions. The buff that reduces damage by 75% + the ability to heal the damage back if they surge + free retaliation, I figured you'd just find a way to deal with the guy they latched onto and kill him. Sure enough it didn't matter, because the time spent you getting to the second target took too long and even if you killed target B, target A was already smacking your units that it was honestly better keeping constant overwatch on in an attempt to stop their movements completely. Then other units get buffed anyway and you're back to square one.

Personally, I just don't like the way X-COM like games just have to massively inflate enemy types to bring the challenge when subtle increase in HP or damage would've been fine. Especially when pistols and repeaters suck shit on expert 95% of the time.
>>
>>2488562
It's not just that it isn't canon, it's also that it has almost nothing going for it beyond action scenes, which aren't even that good.
>>
>>2488641
It's a comparison thing personally. I can think they made Grievous way too powerful in Tartakovsky's but compared to Filnoi's it is just so much better. I do like the Clones Wars from 2008 generally but a lot of it is just not good which makes any Star Wars media that presents the same characters better automatically score a point. The Essential Guide to Warfare continues to reign supreme.

Old eu had more than a couple jedi survivors. It isn't that hard to believe that a few escaped and yoda just didn't know. It sucks because it really has the core gameplay loop to be really good, it just needs to be massively expanded upon. Different factions that you can interact and align with. More sandboxey. Different starting factions that all play differently but ultimately could interweave into any other faction/playstyle.

Means nothing without choice. The nuance gets lost when it's a simple switch over from Republic to Rebels (before they were founded). Also something that doesn't really get appreciated much is that, to many if not most Republic officials and military personnel, Palpatine and his changes were cleaning up the shitty parts of the Republic. Imagine being some sector's security commander near the outer rim before the Clone Wars and comparing it to his late Republic/early Empire reforms. I just want an rpg where you are a Captain in the Republic during the switchover and decide how you develop as a character, rebel or loyalist for example. This will never happen though so fuck it.
