Has any living soul played this game?Is there even any game similar to it? Besides Advance Wars and Panzer Corps.
>>2475188Whoops, my bad, the game is called Dai Senryaku Exceed 7.
>>2475188What about the other Dai Senryakus?
>>2475188all strategy games except MOBAs are niche bro. You will not find a single normie playing Total War despite fans bemoaning that it's being taken over by Warhammer zoomers.
>>2475220... in that case just list games that are niche even among strategy gamers, no? seems pretty simple, are you autistic or am i autistic?

>>2475188I really enjoyed this game. Unfortunately their only english PC title, Daisenryaku Perfect 4.0, looks much rougher than the much older Exceed 7. There are some interesting new systems in Perfect 4.0 though like cruise missiles and ICBMs and specialized AA that can shoot them down.On the other hand, the map view itself devolved a bit - the air and sea layers have lost the separate altitude layers, though I guess they added an option to stack units in the same tiles...I think my theoretical ideal is something like the graphics and aesthetics, and map layers of Exceed 7 with the up-to-date national ToEs and new unit mechanics introduced in Perfect 4.0
>>2475356>>2475202I've heard that they've released a new game in 2026, it's from the same series, 大戦略SSB2, it's already on Steam since February, but I've heard mixed things about it, both good and bad and it doesn't seem to have been completely translated to english yet. I'm not sure if I should get it or what. Not cheap either.I still have my Dai 7 Combat Exceed disk for PS2, it was the only game along with Ace Combat Zero (AC fag here) that would keep me firing up my PS2, but unfortunately the console is broken atm, shucks. Maybe I'll fix it later.I love Dai, that game taught me a lot about the basics. I think that maybe I'd never have been able to play Highfleet nowadays if it wasn't for that game. It forever changed my taste for gaming.
>>2475686Hoh, it still looks pretty rough, huh? I'm not sure what the game really needed was a fully 3D game map, honestly. It doesn't suggest nor rule out the re-implementation of the low-mid-high air layers, though the sea just being a flat plane with different colors, does suggest the sea-deep sea layers did not make it... a shame if they've really done away with it. I thought it was one of the great aspects of Exceed 7
>>2476275>sea-deep layers are goneI did some research and it seems like it since at least Perfect 4.0, what a shame. The aspect of going hunting aircraft carriers and their escorts with subs then going hiding was one of the most fun aspects of Exceed 7. I used to make my own personal scenarios and SGs (pretty much CMANO and Highfleet like) to go hunting subs, conducting amphibious assaults and a whole lot variety of operations like coordinating the capture of airports with airborne divisions and linking them up with the main force, Gostomel style (oof), bombing raids on infrastructure (btw was SEAD even a thing on Exceed 7? I swear SEAD was possible), EW, AWACS and all sorts of things. The combined arms aspect and not having to worry about building and managing shit like in C&C, having only to bother with advancing, securing cities and establishing logistical lines, securing oil refineries (just like IRL) and the like was really what sold me the game. Want to minimize your losses? If you have air supremacy, maybe bomb their cities and important infrastructure.Wanna inutilize their seaports? Go for it! Endless possibilities, even if that wasn't always the most ideal META. Nowadays that I think about it one of the only things that I found lacking perhaps was the absence of more usual and cheap artillery, (like towed 152mm) iirc they were in the game but were severely nerfed and the possibility of using them to pound infrastructure like in RUSE, another classic and a somewhat forgotten RTS that still kicks ass.Do you see it? That's the issue with niche games, no one ever will make them the way we like them. What is a really nice mechanic or aspect of the game is always subject to change. That sucks. And that's why we might as well make our own games.>ICBMs and cruise missiles are now a thing and you can shoot them down with AAOh... wow ok, now they mean business. Now if they don't add cheap Shahed Kamikaze like drones they're being cowards.
>>2476497[continuing]>ShahedImagine sending waves of swarms of kamikaze drones along with ICBMs, effectively saturating their AA defenses, striking RED capital and nearby cities and infrastructure so you could land your airborne divisions there and capture it swiftly? Just think about it. What maybe is also lacking would be like adding sub sections to cities or capitals so say your attack was successful but only destroyed oil refineries, some AA defenses and banking businesses within the city, but that'd lean a bit toward micro perhaps. That probably wouldn't work given that the current system of a single health bar for infrastructure is much simpler, but it's fun to imagine.
>>2476529The game was released way before this entered into the mindspace of even niche gaming otaku so no. But you can have a bunch of ballistic missile launchers pounding cities and military bases into the dirt. Your opponent (or yourself) will have to send engineer troops to repair these buildings before they are usable.Dumb bombs also gain some utility here - they usually have more ammo than the guided variety and both deal the same "destruction" damage to tiles.
>>2475188This game looks cool, how do you even play it?
>>2476754Patience...Patience...And patience...Jokes aside, it's a turn based strategy game. Think of Hoi 4 (not exactly Hoi 4 but you get the point) but without the politics or building and managing infrastructure C&C style. Straight to the point.
>>2476890So Hoi3? Theres not a lot of strategy games from this era. You have Ring of Red and Kessen but those are different vibes. A lesser known one is Shattered Union, that one even had a console port. If you just want turn based strat games like Advance Wars i would have to search my library.
>>2475188>>2475686are there any translations patches or something?
>>2477663There are patches for some of the older games.https://msxtranslations.com/daisenryaku.phpIt's a big franchise.
>>2475188Gonna try this game out specifically because of this thread (got it set up in PCSX2 just now), will report back later with how things went.
>>2478171First impressions: The combat system has a lot more going on than Advance Wars, I'll definitely enjoy learning this game. I was also surprised to see a map in the Middle East, I figured it might have been too topical for when the game came out but I guess the devs figured there's always something going on in the Funny Zone and included it. Thank you for reading my blog post.
>>2478806Don't forget to check out the campaign or operations, it's tough. There's a fun mission in Lebanon. It's a shitshow.Good luck.
>>2477753Thanks will take a look at this
We already have a thread for this>>2471122
>>2479008this ain't no map painting casual game, son.
>>2477753Know of any other niche Japanese Strategy games that have translations? Something along the lines of Gihren's Greed.

>>2475188lots of games.e.g. belowhttps://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/459232
>>2483900>>2483899I like the style, but it just feels wrong for Zachtronics to make anything other than programming-adjacent puzzle games
>>2486522Mobius Front is basically a puzzle game and it even includes a programming-adjacent puzzle minigame, so they're on familiar ground
>>2479494You post Grand Strategy in the Grand Strategy General.
Did literally anyone play Conquest of the New World?
>>2488982I played it a lot in the late 90s, it was on a shareware disc iirc. Bought it on steam a few years ago, it's still playable. I definitely wish there were more random map colonization games.
>>2488990I remember playing a demo version from a disc in the 90s too but I was probably too young to really "get" it. But it just stuck with me despite not really being able to get into it because I was a literal child back then. The exploration part was actually pretty cool and rewarding. One thing I do remember was when I learned how to actually combine units into proper armies when fightin' the natives, that really was a fun one. I think the complexity got a bit too steep for me around the time when you were upgrading buildings which tbf was probably at the tail end of what the demo offered.
>>2488995The demo was capped at level 2 buildings I think. I probably got bored because I had 2-3 maxed out level two settlements and you needed the war college to upgrade your armies/units/officers.
>>2489010Yeah that checks out, 2 was the cap in that version. I should probably try playing it again but am half-worried it's gonna be a clunky game. Not bad but you know a product of its time in terms of UI and controls.
>>2489019I'll be honest, my opinion is it's still quite playable. The UI isn't great but I've seen much worse and the pixel graphics hold up okay, much better than the early 3d disasters that came soon after.
>>2489057The graphics alone does make me want to revisit it. They're so vividly colorful and bright. Some of the building animations were pretty cool too.
Did literally anyone play this? I had a demo of it but I have seen literally 0 people talk about it in my entire life.
>>2488982I played the demo, loved it. Much sovl
>>2483900>>2483899I fucking love mobius front and really wish it had more content.>>2486482This game had the extreme misfortune to go head to head with Warcraft and lost hard.>>2491858Never heard of it.
Vietnam '65 was a pleasant surprise. Basically you have to pacify an area from Vietcong and NVA while trying to keep regular people and politicians back home happy. You can build FOBs and fire bases, recruit ARVN, Hueys, GIs, Cobras etc. Also every unit uses either rations or fuel so you need to figure out how to keep everything supplied and in working order in the jungle.
>>2492598>This game had the extreme misfortune to go head to head with Warcraft and lost hardThat's almost as brutal as Vampire the Masquerade releasing the same day as Half-Life 2. Poor guys never stood a chance.>>2492608Managing public opinion really is an underrated feature in games like this.
>>2492718>brutal.Right?The warwind games were fun, but had a few bugs and were janky in places. They stood no chance when going head to head with something with the polish of Warcraft.
>>2475188Leopard 2A6 tanks were OP
>>2492971They were, and you could just unlock them by completing an easy campaign mission not too far in.
>>2478806I remember that being one of my favourite maps. I liked starting in Egypt and attacking north.
