Has any living soul played this game?
Is there even any game similar to it? Besides Advance Wars and Panzer Corps.

Whoops, my bad, the game is called Dai Senryaku Exceed 7.
>>
>>2475188
What about the other Dai Senryakus?
>>

all strategy games except MOBAs are niche bro.
You will not find a single normie playing Total War despite fans bemoaning that it's being taken over by Warhammer zoomers.

... in that case just list games that are niche even among strategy gamers, no? seems pretty simple, are you autistic or am i autistic?

I really enjoyed this game. Unfortunately their only english PC title, Daisenryaku Perfect 4.0, looks much rougher than the much older Exceed 7. There are some interesting new systems in Perfect 4.0 though like cruise missiles and ICBMs and specialized AA that can shoot them down.

On the other hand, the map view itself devolved a bit - the air and sea layers have lost the separate altitude layers, though I guess they added an option to stack units in the same tiles...

I think my theoretical ideal is something like the graphics and aesthetics, and map layers of Exceed 7 with the up-to-date national ToEs and new unit mechanics introduced in Perfect 4.0

I've heard that they've released a new game in 2026, it's from the same series, 大戦略SSB2, it's already on Steam since February, but I've heard mixed things about it, both good and bad and it doesn't seem to have been completely translated to english yet. I'm not sure if I should get it or what. Not cheap either.

I still have my Dai 7 Combat Exceed disk for PS2, it was the only game along with Ace Combat Zero (AC fag here) that would keep me firing up my PS2, but unfortunately the console is broken atm, shucks. Maybe I'll fix it later.

I love Dai, that game taught me a lot about the basics. I think that maybe I'd never have been able to play Highfleet nowadays if it wasn't for that game. It forever changed my taste for gaming.

Hoh, it still looks pretty rough, huh? I'm not sure what the game really needed was a fully 3D game map, honestly. It doesn't suggest nor rule out the re-implementation of the low-mid-high air layers, though the sea just being a flat plane with different colors, does suggest the sea-deep sea layers did not make it... a shame if they've really done away with it. I thought it was one of the great aspects of Exceed 7

>sea-deep layers are gone

I did some research and it seems like it since at least Perfect 4.0, what a shame. The aspect of going hunting aircraft carriers and their escorts with subs then going hiding was one of the most fun aspects of Exceed 7. I used to make my own personal scenarios and SGs (pretty much CMANO and Highfleet like) to go hunting subs, conducting amphibious assaults and a whole lot variety of operations like coordinating the capture of airports with airborne divisions and linking them up with the main force, Gostomel style (oof), bombing raids on infrastructure (btw was SEAD even a thing on Exceed 7? I swear SEAD was possible), EW, AWACS and all sorts of things. The combined arms aspect and not having to worry about building and managing shit like in C&C, having only to bother with advancing, securing cities and establishing logistical lines, securing oil refineries (just like IRL) and the like was really what sold me the game. Want to minimize your losses? If you have air supremacy, maybe bomb their cities and important infrastructure.
Wanna inutilize their seaports? Go for it! Endless possibilities, even if that wasn't always the most ideal META. Nowadays that I think about it one of the only things that I found lacking perhaps was the absence of more usual and cheap artillery, (like towed 152mm) iirc they were in the game but were severely nerfed and the possibility of using them to pound infrastructure like in RUSE, another classic and a somewhat forgotten RTS that still kicks ass.

Do you see it? That's the issue with niche games, no one ever will make them the way we like them. What is a really nice mechanic or aspect of the game is always subject to change. That sucks. And that's why we might as well make our own games.

>ICBMs and cruise missiles are now a thing and you can shoot them down with AA

Oh... wow ok, now they mean business. Now if they don't add cheap Shahed Kamikaze like drones they're being cowards.

Imagine sending waves of swarms of kamikaze drones along with ICBMs, effectively saturating their AA defenses, striking RED capital and nearby cities and infrastructure so you could land your airborne divisions there and capture it swiftly? Just think about it.
What maybe is also lacking would be like adding sub sections to cities or capitals so say your attack was successful but only destroyed oil refineries, some AA defenses and banking businesses within the city, but that'd lean a bit toward micro perhaps. That probably wouldn't work given that the current system of a single health bar for infrastructure is much simpler, but it's fun to imagine.

The game was released way before this entered into the mindspace of even niche gaming otaku so no. But you can have a bunch of ballistic missile launchers pounding cities and military bases into the dirt. Your opponent (or yourself) will have to send engineer troops to repair these buildings before they are usable.

Dumb bombs also gain some utility here - they usually have more ammo than the guided variety and both deal the same "destruction" damage to tiles.
>>
>>2475188
This game looks cool, how do you even play it?
>>
>>2476754

Patience...
Patience...
And patience...

Jokes aside, it's a turn based strategy game. Think of Hoi 4 (not exactly Hoi 4 but you get the point) but without the politics or building and managing infrastructure C&C style. Straight to the point.
>>
>>2476890
So Hoi3? Theres not a lot of strategy games from this era. You have Ring of Red and Kessen but those are different vibes. A lesser known one is Shattered Union, that one even had a console port. If you just want turn based strat games like Advance Wars i would have to search my library.

are there any translations patches or something?

There are patches for some of the older games.

It's a big franchise.

Gonna try this game out specifically because of this thread (got it set up in PCSX2 just now), will report back later with how things went.
