1404 is the best

ubishit aside, I am very fond of 1800
it's such a nice feeling of accomplishment when your cities start industrializing and electricity becomes commonplace
>>
Did the Rome Anno add curved roads? How'd that game go
>>
>>2475745
Crusades were peak story tbr =)
>>
new dlc for 117 is just another big pointless buff machine to shovel resources into. by the looks of it. I didn't even bother to fire the game up, just read trough the dev blog and release notes, noped out and came here to shit on it
>>
>>2475796
The Romans famously loved autistically straight roads to minimize material usage. No switchbacks on slopes just straight up and down.
>>
>>2475345
> female engineers and black scientists
This woke crap ruined an otherwise perfect game for me.
>>
>>2475345
still haven't played because of uplay
>>
>>2475345
I love all Anno games, they are different lenses at different time periods.
Basically the core concept is always the same with concurrent planning of economic, diplomatic and military needs.
Story wise, well, they are all over the place.
Very few games can actually make me feel like I am going on an epic and historic adventure but the 1404 campaign managed that with the holy crusade

What bothers me the most in the more recent games is the lack of proper AI economy. It's all fake, all their islands, totally cosmetic. One of the devs at one point clarified that CPU resources are too constrained to give the AI a real economy

>>2475786
When europe was at its absolute peak, seeing the transformation feels very rewarding, with as >>2476127 mentioned, the black scientists and female engineers being an insult to our history, cant wait to get rid of them eventually when I start digging into the game engine.

After 117 I think it would be fun to have a BC spinoff focused around the minoans.
>>
>>2476706
I have a BC spinoff idea, with time travel.
Future humans need to go back in time to stop [villain plot], on their way there they encounter neanderthal and cro magnons - bringing the pop types to three. At higher pop tiers, the prehistoric groups start adapting to the future tech and gain new pop needs; while the future pops also have to adapt to prehistoric resources.
In the end, rather than saving the timeline, they create a completely new one where neanderthals don't go extinct.
>>
>>2476714
That is the worst fucking idea I've ever heard
Careful they don't steal it
>>
>>2476724
I just want to have an Anno game with mammoths and other cool animals.

took me few hours to find but here it is.

If you get it in any form, please publish the mod on basedmods or something.
>>
>>2476706
I think a Persia or Babylon would be more interesting. The core location should be big and defined, a sub-location could be Minoan Crete. I would assume the next game will be 1400+ though. Shame 1900s are impossible.
>>
>>2476765
1800 already had a lot of early 20th century stuff.
>>
>>2476765
1900s aren't impossible. I have a concept for that too.
Start in 1945 (Anno '45), set in the Cold War and themed around European reconstruction. Pop groups are the capitalist West and communist East. Each pop tier moves the setting up a decade (tier 1 is 1940's, both sides are freshly return veterans, tier 2 is 1950's workers, tier 3 is 1960's middle class, tier 5 is 1970's space age scientists, tier 6 is 1980's yuppies and 'new soviet man').
Anno 1800 covered some of the first half of the 20th century, this covers the latter half.
>>
>>2476773
I say impossible because of their naming convention, maybe they could do it but I doubt. I think if they did do a 20th century game it should be 45 or 54, focusing on cold war tech and economy. probably 54 to distinctly push it away from being WWII. 1920s would be cool but honestly too similar to lategame 1800.
>>
>>2476796
I like 45 with the implication that the whole plot (as in, the colonization of islands) is the post-war rebuilding process.
>>
>>2476812
>'45 focuses on a suspiciously familiar German establishing a "retirement community" on a south american archipelago.
>add the iron sky dlc where he tries to tunnel to the earth's core.
>dinosaur assault dlc to follow
>>
>>2476765
>Shame 1900s are impossible.
Anno 1800 is only called 1800 to fit the digit sum = 9 tradition.
It has absolutely fuck all to do with 1800.
The ship you start with is a 1850 tea-racing clipper and you reach around the 1930s in the endgame.
>>
>>2476773
Thats just Tropico with Anno mechanics.
>>
>>2476835
In other words the perfect game.
>>
>>2476835
Tropico wouldn't have things like airplane logistics.
>>
>>2476834
Yeah, so point me to the entry in the series that doesn't add up to 9. 1900s are impossible.

Anno '90s.

While it's 1990s, it covers everything in the 20th century up to then. '90s is just chosen as the 'end of history' before the rise of the internet and digital 21st century.

Nobody said no rules about apostrophes.
>>
>>2476877
90s would be fucking boring though.
>>
Could do a fictitious 90's inspired cyberpunk.
>>
>>2476836
Tropico works because it is simple. Anno works because they make you do basic math. My buddy who has 100s of hours in Tropico can not play Anno to save his life.
>>
>>2476911
>can not play Anno to save his life.
How fucking handicapped do you have to be to not be able to play a videogame?
>>
>>2476885
It's just to cheat the name, since there's no way to make 19xx work otherwise. The idea would be it'd actually be ~1920 or so up to 90s. Submarines, nuclear energy (I doubt we'd get nukes), bombers, carriers, but also the shift from anno 1800 style industrialization to automation, globalization and the complex interdependence of parts. You can have the dilemma of building your factories or resource extraction on another player's island (think Apple factories in China, British-Persian oil company before Mossadegh) but there's always the risk the player nationalizes your infastructure.
>>
>>2476756
Thanks, it's very unfortunate that he never published it.
I would certainly upload anything on takedown hardened platforms.
>>
>>2477005
the problem is the 20th century was fuck ugly thus unfit for an anno game.
>>
Imagine how much better the series would be if it was freed from Ubishit
>>
>>2476796
>>2476842
Shut the fuck up
>>
>>2477437
I accept your concession.
>>
>>2477439
I accept that you're a redditor
>>
>>2477463
Damn zoomers are terrible at insulting people.
>>
you could just change the gimmick to adding up to multiples of 9 instead of 9 and then making Anno 1908 or 1944 or whatever
>>
I feel like using the queens island is cheating and never build on it
>>
>>2477542
The dates must be divisible by 9
>>
I liked the Archipelago, Noblesse Oblige and Barren Lands scenarios for Anno 1404. It was fun having scenario goals that weren't just "build a gigantic city with 10,000 noblemen" while also having specific restrictions on how you had to play to beat them.

>aqueduct pulling water right next to the trading post
looks like we're settling on the riverbank instead of on the coast, neat. might make trading a nightmare if there's any war happening but I guess we'll see
>>
>>2477838
The EU is directly funding a lot of games in order to gain cultural soft power and political leverage. It's pretty insidious.
>>
We heard you, next anno will be 2304 with none of the previous entry cliffhanger being addressed, we'll also dumb down the fuck out of it again but look how good our DLSS implementation is!
>>
>>2478336
I can't wait for the day that dlss starts introducing AI ads unless you subscribe to nvidia premium.
>>
What setting will the next Anno take place in?
>>
>>2478341
I'm not sure what there's left for them to do that hasn't already been done. Space colonies? Deep sea? They've already covered the classical era, renaissance, age of exploration, enlightenment and industrialization, which only really leaves early/middle medieval period (and 1404 already feels medieval-ish, having crusades and Joan of Arc in its storyline) and they can't even do a 20th century game since the title would add up to more than 9 and 1800 provides a better starting point for industrialization anyway.
>>
>>2478341
What I'd like to see
>Cold War
>Atlantis, for a slightly sci-fi take on the Bronze Age, with the scifi elements intended to bring some 1800's mechanics back
>completely underwater game, with each region being a different depth of the sea
>Mars
>space game, with "islands" being asteroids or planetoids
>fantasy game, set on a world tree with three different levels: ground level for humans, canopy for elves, and underground for dwarves
>>
>>2478341
Finno korean hyperwar
>>
>>2477900
The Nile delta might be another possible topography/ map for continuous play.
Restricting sea/ocean passages would certainly be an interest twist in the series. If there is just one large river the whole strategical meta changes.

I haven't played Anno 117 yet, but with Egypt, I really wish there we would get some light fantasy elements back like in 1701
>>
>>2478515
forgot the map
>>2478341
Well there are not that many options left...
They could revisit the medieval period (~1200), the current age (maybe 2034) or the far future with space colonies as one anon suggested.
Tbr, 1404 already did the medieval times perfect justice

I think it's most plausible that the next Anno will be future themed again.
I really ache for some more fantasy themes in Anno but that will be a job for the modding community I suppose.
>>
>>2477900
>>2478515
Reckon they'll change up the usual Anno motif of "a bunch of islands" here? It could be interesting if, for instance, the whole region is just the River with oasis "islands" in the uninhabitable desert. Trade would be either the usual ships or camels for oases.
"Islands in the Delta" seems a bit lazy as a paradigm, but it would work.
