I've been playing the Dawn of the Dead mod for Gates of Hell and I'm quite enjoying it. The mod is well made and runs well, surprisingly it doesn't take that long to load compared to other mods.
This mod also got me thinking, I don't really remember playing or hearing about PvPvE zombie strategy games. I'm aware of They Are Billions and other zombie adjacent games like Age of Darkness, haven't played them yet but played some of Diplomacy is Not an Option and I assume both games play somewhat similarly, I believe these games only feature hordes of zombies as the main and only enemies instead of having the main threat being other players or human factions and the zombies taking the role of a looming danger that you need to keep in mind while fighting the humans.
There's Xcom 2 WoTC that fits the PvPvE idea with the lost, they give a somewhat similar experience in their missions as they're not really the main threat but something you have to keep in mind while fighting the more dangerous Advent troopers, even forcing you to shift your tactics to accommodate for their presence like discouraging the use of explosives.
I know that "humans are the real monster/threat" in zombie media became a cliche of some sort but I always found it an interesting and fun concept that what you really have to worry about isn't the flesh eating corpse, but your fellow man who might kill you just to get your boots or some food.
