How do you incorporate drone warfare in turn based strategy and not fuck everything up? It's easy in real time since it's just more units to pilot (or just move drone operators like you would a Protoss carrier). But in turn based? You now have a bunch of small units that can harass infantry, ram into helicopters, blow expensive tanks to pieces, even attack airplanes and their hitbox makes them hard asf to kill. Plus they're the cheapest unit to manufacture and now you have a killzone instead of a battlefield.

So basically now your game is a bunch of small skirmishes rather than an organized armor / infantry push.

tHE ANSWER IS OBVIOUS BUT i SHALL NOT TELL YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another dronefag thread?

It's the future of warfare anon. It's time for video games to address this (and they are, check out Drone Sector) or fall behind.

I think into the breach gets close to answering the question.
Each mech has unique weapons. One weapon is deploying a smaller mech which usually
>takes one turn for the mech to deploy
>cant do damage but can push the enemy out of postion
>attract enemy attention
>is very fragile and can die in one hit
So make it weak, give it an opprotunity cost, make it offensive to use in the meta

But in that game losing the smaller mech is catastrophic and it's a sort of glass canon combo.

I would question the very idea of even turning drones into a unit on the battlefield. Maybe in the Advance Wars scenario, it's a an AoE a certain unit can employ to create a kind of Damage effect, when units travel through the area. If a tank travels it's full movement through the area it's HP gets reduced by the full amount. Also the drone operator has to pay funds for this and can decide which targets to go for. While it's cost effective to target tanks, targetting infantry is a net loss in pure funds spent/destroyed.

good idea with tank losing full hp if he cannot move through the aoe aka killzone
also with funds though that complicates the economy a bit

sacrificing shit is often ideal. the fights aren't long, having your displacer push a bug and block a shot is a good 2-for-1.

If we're talking about AW and ukraine style cheap shit-drones a "drone" unit would be just a type of infantry with like +1 attack range or something like that. In a game of this scale it would be more like a unit weapon than a unit in itself.
The longer range stuff they use to blow up logistic centers etc. would be closer to a "cruise missile" type of unit that blows itself up; a black bomb in other words.
A predator style drone on the other hand would be more like a cheap version of a bomber. But AW:DoR already added duster planes.
It wouldn't change the game as much as you think.
