I'm only like 5 hours into the Alucard route. It's a sequel, set about 300 years in the future. There's been a few "Hey how about that Fodlan" moments but nothing canonizing a route or even directly mentioning/referencing a character. With 1 exception.

Finished Curse of Lagdou because of these threads. Not bad, crit system and custom art's great, good maps and units, MC going insane was fun, but most of my issues from the demo didn't change. Author's really bad at making you care about the things they want you to care about as much as they themselves do. It's a problem I can related to in writing, but a problem nonetheless.

That said, I also finished the demo for their next hack, The Fisher King's Heart, which is a huge improvement in almost every way. They're learning and it shows. Definitely going to be one to keep an eye on.

If I remember right from random FEU chatter, the original pitch of the story was mostly 'Capitalism bad' before the dev realized they don't really have much to say about it and pivoted to the horror/schizo plot points. Personally, I'm mostly waiting for a Drums of War sequel even if the devs caught a bad case of a shipper's disease and decided to add 6 romantic routes for the MC

In chapter 10~, one of the lords sacrifices herself to save the party by grabbing a cursed evil sword. It's very dramatic. Except this lord hasn't done a damn thing in the story before this point and hasn't been endeared to the player at all.
As the game proceeds characters start talking like the world's ending. There's a plague sweeping across the land and everyone's dying, monsters are killing everyone, nations are falling, these are truly the end times. But so little is done to actually sell that, it's just pretty normal Fire Emblem. You roll up to some place and the characters go "Oh no, this is horrible, everything's gone..." and it's just a regular map with a couple destroyed houses. This is especially notable because the hack has a lot of custom CGs and art, so there's not even the excuse of it being hard to portray in GBA. Pic related, that cursed evil sword being cursed and evil.
In the back half of the game, the other lord starts going insane. Hallucinations, schizophrenia, false memories, the works. She's got the titular Butterfly Eyes, you see. I can't believe it, Butterfly Eyes, oh geez, anything but Butterfly Eyes. You save between chapters and the next one's called Butterfly Eyes, uh oh, shit is about to go down. Except at no point does anyone ever say what Butterfly Eyes actually is. I finished the damn game and I still don't know what it is.

It's just a lot of stuff like that. The author not quite realizing that it's not enough to have ideas in your own head, you have to sell them to your reader too. You can't take your reader's investment for granted, you have to actually draw them in yourself.
And do understand, I'm not giving them shit for it. Not really. This is something every writer has to deal with, and it's not easy. Lord knows I've fallen into the same trap.

Playing through Fire Emblem 7, finishing it today. its the 1st FE game I've beaten. Is it worth playing through other games in the series?

Despite the basics (SRPG genre and permadeath), each title from the series is pretty much different. The closest to FE7 is Sacred Stones - extra points for it being the base of most of the romhacks if you care about them. All but the first two games (as they have remakes - but you might check them out for some NES experience) can be recommended depending on your preferences or desire to check out experimental things. The main city of the game is a mix of Rome and Carthage, the game is based on the ancient mediterranean, the characters are meant to be Southern Europeans, North Africans, Arabs and a few Blacks. Americans just see the world in Black and White due to their centuries as a majority northern european minority african american country, so they lack the mental scheme to understand what they are seeing.
