Coincidentally CS:S has been one of my most played games in the recent time (Im zoom so I missed out on it). And I've been craving something similar but on a /vst/ level. Team based, tactical, kiting out your guys for a specific role. I think Mars Tactics will scratch that itch, but until then. Do you have any recommendations? X-com looks promising.
Bonus points
>custom battles/skirmish mode
>custom maps
>more than one z level

it was worse than the GoldSrc versions of CS on the account that Source physics would get in the way all the time
>>
>>2491554
Yes. The source engines movement physics never felt right, it always felt ponderous and slow and floaty. HL1 engine felt a lot tighter and crisper and closer to its Quake ancestor. And most source ports of mods ended up messing with the weapons and changing the accuracy, recoil, and spread values (looking at you, DOD:S)
CS:S wasn’t better in any way except graphics. And it was kinda fun to play single player zombies with you solo vs 20 bots with knives

- Jagged Alliance. Check out 3 if your zoomer ass can't deal with 27-year-old games. Otherwise, use the Stracciatella source port for JA2, and you will know heaven.
- Doorkickers, it's like your FBI OPEN UP memes, but with more buckshot in your face.
- Breach and Clear. Like Doorkickers, but in 3D, and worse.
- Menace. From the creators of Battle Brothers comes the latest /vst/ fotm. Not a bad game, as long as you know what you're getting into.
- Xenonauts. Carbon copy of classic XCOM. Play the first one, and don't get near the second.
- UFO AfterMath/AfterShock/AfterLight. Made by Czechs back when the XCOM franchise was on ice, they are an interesting spin on the formula, and very entertaining. That is, if you can deal with the age and the jank.
