Should I get Civ5 or Civ6?
The definitive Civ experience is Civ 2 space victory into SMAC. The peak of the series.
>>2492645Can't stand Civ 5. Civ 6 with Gathering Storm is really good for a couple of campaigns, though I found the amount of busywork trying to line up inspirations and tech boosts gets tedious.
>>2492752My bad I meant Rise and Fall, I forgot there were two major DLCs (besides leader/civ packs) for the game. The base game feels a little barebones without them.
>>2492711no cap, unc??
Might as well ask, what mods should I get for Civ6?
>>2492879most of the popular ones from the first 5 pages
>>2492645do you rike tall? 5do you rike wide? 6
>>2492645You should kill yourself
i like civ5
>>2492645Civ5>Civ5 modded>Civ4>Civ6Civ 6 is essentially a puzzle game pretending to be a strategy game and on top of that it looks like it was made for Cocomelon>>2492882I HATE that this 'tall is the only viable way to play' redditor revisionist-history coping-about-civ-vii discourse is now standard when discussing this game. The ONLY time you need to stick to 4-city-tradition/hyper optimized is when playing on Deity. Every other difficulty up to Immortal you can get away with 6-8 cities MINIMUM by taking advantage of resource trades, policies and actively going for city-state quests.
>>2493064I second this.
>>2492645Civ 6 has more under the hood and better gameplay compared to 5 but the over exaggerated caricature art style is not everyone's cup of tea, I would argue also that Civ5's atmosphere (from menus, sounds, icons to animations) has bigger appealBoth games have banger soundtracks (6 has a gimmick where your civ theme song evolves over time)I prefer 6 over 5t. 720 hours on 5t. 983 in 6
>>2492645>Shitantine reeks>RomanLol, lmfao even
>>2492645If you like to build an actual empire and stick correctly to history go for 6If you enjoy micromanaging 4 cities and doing nothing go an entire game go for 5
>>2493105Not gonna read your AI generated comment sorry not sorry
civ 6 and later are too woke
but whay abot 7?
>>2493167
>>2493105>hate the revisionist historyyeah, i dont get it. i make a good amt of towns before even discovering the nrw world and do fine in most games
>>2493105What about modded Civ6 with the balance mod that the pvp scene uses?
>>2493636Get the Romans holiday ai mod first of allBut regardless AI is dumb as per usual. They either kamikaze attack you or won't do shit
>>2492645Civ 5.>>2492752The district system of Civ 6 is absolutely soulless and requires either ambivalence from the player or planning out tiles of an entire city before placing a settle. The art style is also atrocious. Then only this Civ 6 improves upon is the military unit Corps concept.
>>2494749oh no it requires basic understanding of how district adjacency works!>woah holy and science districts like mointains? that's crazy>woah culture district likes wonders? NO WAY DUDE>woah commercial district likes rivers, harbors and other districts nearby? That's nuts!>woah industrial district likes infrastructure buildings like dam, aquaducts and canals? yeah actually that makes sense>woah governor district is liked by other districts, DUDE SHEER COMPLEXITY this shit is as simple as a match 5 game, how are you fuckers filtered by this shit, every other 4X game far robust mechanics than these
>>2492711After playing SMAC, Civ2 just feels too basic in comparison.
There is open source free civ 5 available here:https://yairm210.itch.io/unciv
>>24926454, it was the last good one.
>>2494749Preach it. It also causes this awful urban sprawl and makes your empire look like dogshit.
>>2494759>filterednobody gets filtered by a fucking puzzle game retardit's not complex, but it is unpleasant to use and requires an autistic amount of planning that can and will be messed up by ai proxy settlingwhat truly filters people is that fucking art """style"""
>>2492645Civ V has better art and mods.Civ 6 it's a mobile game where Firaxis didn't even bother coding the AI.
>>2495696well to be fair the ai isnt any better in 5 vanilla either. VP is what fixed it
Imagine shilling for VEnjoy your temu Simcity, cucks
>>2495711>Simcitybut enough about IVhaving to turn each and every map into magnasanti is late stage cancer
>>2495686>I am not filtered!>proceeds to describe how he gets filteredif you're so bad at planning a few steps ahead then place tacks on the map as a reminder where you planned to place districts, there is even a mod that shows adjacency bonus>but A.I is a meanie poowoah my game is more dynamic than I thought, I have to adapt my strategy?!
>>2496445nta but having to use mods and whatever tacks are to keep track of things are not helping your case newfriend :)
>>24926455 is for console peasants playing their first strategy game. You cant lose on the basic difficulty
>>2496574>ntayeah right>mods optional modsUnfortunately same can't be said for 5 where Vox Populi might as well be mandatoryI rest my case
>>2496631I'll take your word for it, I've barely played anything past IVV being shit doesn't excuse VI(I)>yeah rightyeah, right.
>>2496633>NOOO YOU CAN'T BUILD MORE THAN 4 CITIES BECAUSE I'LL KEK YOU WITH A MEME HAPPINESS DEBUFF AS WELL AS TECH AND POLICY COSTKek
>>2496738hexshit was a mistaket. unc
I've only played 6 and most of it in mp, although of course not competitively mostly just casually with friends. Although i never really liked it. There were parts of it i liked, but it was mostly just waiting for people to finish their turns.i've tried giving it some fair chances by playing singleplayer, but i think i'm just approaching the game wrong; as in i've tried playing it like a paradox game which is probably a big mistake. Most strategy games are at the end of the day closest to board games compared to any other genre, but civ feels almost like just a digitized boardgame. I really liked some of the district stuff, trade and god the feeling of almost a city builder and not really a traditional strat game. I think a fun mechanic would be giving players access to a new continent halfway through to settle of which colonial nations could be born, but that's just my two cents. What i usually lacked the most is the "feel" for lack of a better word for many campaigns; that it was just a series of button clicks instead of actually cultivating something. There were times i did indeed get a good "feel" for a campaign and really got into it, but it usually degenerated into just button clicking. All in all, i'd say it was mildly entertaining.
>>2499980>a fun mechanic would be giving players access to a new continent halfway throughcan't you just set up the map like that like you could in V, with one continent empty and only accessible after you unlock ocean going ships?
>>2492645Rome died with the fall of the Western Empire, the East was literally just a larp. A larp with a lot of cultural backing and historical continuity but it still was not the Roman Empire and Byzantine fans are unironically just coping.
>>2500235Rome died when cuckstantine enforced a desert death cult on it
>>2500253I think Diocletian gets away with implementing serfdom too much, he had some strong positives but I simply can't overlook that.>ConstantineI don't think changing the religion was super helpful for an already divided state but it wasn't the main issue that sunk them imo. People do invest too much emotion on that subject though - for example I think Julian the Apostate's political and economic reforms would be far more appreciated were he a Christian.
>>2500196i mean technically yes, but i was thinking of something more of a fleshed out mechanic like eu4 (haven't played eu5 so can't comment). Something else i'd also maybe like is if civs had more civ specific bonuses for different things like wonders and such; would make things more restrictive, but i think also make things feel a bit more immersive. Was a mod, colony and empire, that added limits to how many cities one could have before debuffs began kicking in and you had to expand some sort of bureaucracy, although restricting settling speed i think it made the pace feel a lot better instead of just speedrunning settling like fifty towns and then spending the rest of the game in 'menu button clicker simulator 2016'. Also played with the monopoly++ mods which i'd say made things more interesting. Also really liked the district expansion mods where you could choose between two different upgrades instead of just having the same one always.Something i also thought was a bit weird is how the game lacked a lot of interesting and actually historically relevant civs. I mean it's a lot cheaper and easier probably to just copy-paste china three times and norway a couple of times, but not one denmark, austria, italy, mexico or so on? Something else is also that some civs i'd say kinda require certain types of geography to not feel weird; Britain being prime candidate. Great Britain, being defined as an island nation thus focusing on the navy and outwards colonization instead of inwards continental conquest (yes i'm oversimplifying, but i hope you get it) simply doesn't feel correct if you don't start on some type of island; making it so that i've barely played them.Just my views, i know this game wasn't really made for me and i wouldn't want to change it for people who like it, but i feel like they were trying to do some things similar with CIV7, but just didn't really commit nor really fleshed anything out. Wanting both a pdx and trad civ audience, getting neither
>>2500260>I don't think changing the religion was super helpful for an already divided stateother way around, by imposing a unified live faith he gained a point of cohesion
>>2492645If you want to have a gay old time with a good video game, Civ V.If you hate yourself and crave slop that looks like a mobile game, Civ VI.
>>25003256 was tailored for normies, and I can't even be mad at them because it paid off hugely, it remains their most popular game to date. Somehow logged about 90 hours in it and enjoyed most of it My biggest problem is the whole conference mechanic is too board gamey and that I can't have 2 of my fav graphic mods activated the same time because of engine limits
>>2500969This man CivsBut if you want the pinnacle of Civ, go with SMAC
