>>2496755CK3 is also updating at the same time.Utter failutre of marketing. If they spaced them all a month apart they could rake in a perpetual stream of money.
Is an achievement like "Frozen assets" even posible in eu5 considering what would be the eu4 North Sea trade node is doomed to be a low pop/development land?
>>2496766You can't really make any market especially profitable or unprofitable, as every market has the exact same surplus of goods.
>>2496766Fairly obviously. You can make any node the most valuable simply because you aren't the AI. At worst you have to blob.
>>2496749>Europa Universalis 5 is dead...Long live the Europa Universalis 5!
>>2496766you can exploit norse slave raiding to pump scandinavia full of pops
i'd like to pump scandinavians full of pops
>>2496749I want the honest opinion of people who played EU4 and EU5.Is EU5 comparable or better than EU4 with all dlcs?Or do they expect us to buy a whole series of dlcs that are equivalent to the ones we had in EU4?
>>2496899It's definitely "better" as in it definitely has more content and it does have more mechanics, which makes it more frustrating when you encounter something that doesn't work. DLCs are (is) focused on adding more content to specific regions, the Byzantium dlc is an outright disaster.
>>2496899EU4 is still better then 5 right now, but 4 also has 10 years of content and patches to iron everything out. However I do think 5 has a better core to work with and given the time will be better then 4. But thats years away. >Or do they expect us to buy a whole series of dlcs that are equivalent to the ones we had in EU4?Its a paradox game, what do you think.
>>2496905>Its a paradox game, what do you think.I would imagine they would add more content, not repeat content from previous game.
>>2496899>Is EU5 comparable or better than EU4 with all dlcs?Trick question, because “all DLCs” make EU4 worse. It peaked nearly a decade ago and then declined in asymptotic bloat.
>>2496899Really depends what you prefer in a game. EU4 is a much MUCH better arcade game. But I hate arcade games, so that isn't a positive for me.EU5 is a much MUCH better autismo game. And I like autismo games. So EU5 is much better for me.When I played EU4 it always felt like I was playing in spite of it. I like tall play, colonial games, but that is objectively not a way you can play EU4. For example, in EU5 I get good relations with Majapahit and build trade offices all over their country. I get full access to their market without blobbing. In EU4 I have to blob, or I don't get access to their market. I have to spend mana which I shit out of the king's asshole, this takes immersion out of the game for me and I greatly dislike it.For 90% of people EU4 is the better game. For the 10% of autists like me EU5 is flawed, but still significantly better than EU4.
>>2496909>not repeat content from previous game. The game takes place in the same era of history as EU4 outside of the first 100 years. The entire game is repeat content.
trade in this game seems dogshit and fails to simulate shifting global demands even a system as barebones as eu4 felt like you were actually controlling international trade and income
>>2496947I never felt like I was trading in this game, just a market in my capital that has deficit of certain goods and I try to use that demand.
is there a single historical example of a ruler leading a navy
>>2496947It's pretty decent for trading raw materials and produced goods back and forth like a colonial economy, but it completely breaks down when it comes to changing demand over time.I found a coffee location and figured I'd be making bank selling that to my people. They have 0.5 demand for coffee. Turns out demand for coffee only comes from a modifier that's hard coded to appear in europe at a certain time. Alright I guess? The same thing happens with slaves. They are pretty much worthless, until the Triangle Trade modifier magically creates demand. Not sure why they designed it this way.
>>2496987Caligula
>>2496947it doesn't simulate it because they are no price dispersion and no shortages there are no shortages because paradox ballooned resource availability in shitholes just so third world wakanda enthusiasts could play out their powerfantasy
>>2496991>It's pretty decent for trading raw materials and produced goods back and forth like a colonial economy, this is probably the only good example but colonial gameplay sucks right now so most will never interact with it
>>2496987many many many roman examples
>>2496987peter the great was a naval nerd and personally commanded the fleet in the first major naval victory against swedeni think other examples from eu5 period are mostly ceremonial presence or with the monarch being in charge of the army aboard while someone else actually commanded the fleet
>>2496899It have less content, but overall it is better than EU IV without DLC's
>>2496933Yes and no.What I mean by repeat content is mechanics wise. Of course we would have repeat content in the form of localized flavour content for each region and major countries

>>2497132True, EU5 is better than EU4 if you play EU4 on its release patch.
is Japan good to play in or is it still fucked? It sounds like back in 2025 it was super buggy. I haven't tried it yet
>>2497163haha, lol
>>2496899They are different games. EU5 is probably more your cup if when presented between playing EU4 or an idle game you choose the idle game. You do need all the DLC for 5 to be good like 4 so they are the same in that aspect and we are still in the phase where they are still adding back the features they removed to be sold separately so you can't even buy all the DLC yet.>>2497163They haven't changed anything about Japan and won't till the thousand fold fold DLC releases in 2032
>>2496991I mean, I can see where they're coming from. Slavery wasn't big in Renaissance Europe and there was straight up zero European market for coffee until the late 16th century. Ditto for cocoa and chocolate which wypipo found disgusting for decades until they finally grew to like it.That said, there should be a way for the player to stimulate an earlier growth of demand rather than just straight up hardcoding it at a set date, that's just lazy.
i didnt know tribes could build stuff

lmao why are they changing moroccans from generic brown/tan people to this
>>2497259For reference, what he used to look like.
>>2497251Both are very much true. Lots of idle games are riddled with bunch of clicking that does nothing which is how most of the "micro" in EU5 is also structured. You just need to click a shit ton to do things but most clicks either just simply don't matter or they do matter but there's no decision making in them as in their may as well be automated because you need to do the click anyways as soon as you can. Stuff like auto leveling buildings reduced the second category for instance.

>>2497383Despite paradox pandering to them with Victoria 3, they didn't seem to buy it, and I don't know if they get a discount for being poor
Why would I, as Castile, jump through all the hoops of the situation and gaining influence over Granada when I could effortlessly full annex them in the first few months of the game? Why would I ever choose to forgo that approach in favor of this convoluted busywork?
Does anyone care about them front loading the game with content in an era that should be in CK3 and ignoring content post age of discovery when most people want to play?
>>2497409It's probably because the 2.0 "discovery" update is adding a 15th century start date so they're gonna drop a big steaming load of content all over it then. All the shit before that is just meeting season pass obligations and finishing up the game's beta testing.
>>2497408Apparently they made it more expensive to conquer Granada's provinces for the first few decades.Pavia's response to this question was along the lines of "you can still do that if you want, but it might be more interesting to not do that"It's a hard problem honestly. Anbennar for EU4 had the same issues, devs would make these convoluted event chains and mission trees that players can skip by just doing a regular war or using some other basic game mechanic. There's really no solution to this except for the player to voluntarily play along with your memes instead of going around them, for the sake of fun.
>>2497412I will now play your game.
>>2497408>>2497415>There's really no solution to this except for the player to voluntarily play along with your memes instead of going around them, for the sake of fun.Do people really load up as Ulm, blob all over the world, and then smile smugly to themselves? These are history simulators, if you want to blob just play EU4, Civ, or Risk.
>>2497265Dumb change but would both of em still
>>2497318Not taken as a grave offense by your average Muslim, much like drinking. I will never understand why pork is what they go apeshit over
>>2497433>Do people really load up as Ulm, blob all over the world, and then smile smugly to themselves?Yes. Their goal is to "beat" the game as fast as possible to feel like a strong leet gamer. I'm making it sound dumber than it is but that is the mindset, if you design a bunch of bespoke content these players will fabricate claims and ignore it all if that means blobbing faster, on the other hand if your content gives them bonuses they will always use it.
>>2497433>These are history simulatorsNobody believe this. Players know this is not true, devs never intended this game to be historic, it will never be, Blobhemia colonizing Russia should have bitchslapped you this a long time ago.
>>2497389I know turks used to get eu4 for $1 and that valve removed the turkish leer-uh over paradoxes policy where they were jewing themselves out of sales at valves detriment. south america probably has something similar.

Now that the Turkish boycott is over THE BEST youtuber is back
>>2497433You say that but compared to EU4 for example, my memories of Civ-style games give me more of a simulator feeling than that.In EU4 there is simply nothing to do except war and colonizing, and colonizing is not only irrelevant to most countries, but it also doesn't really have any realistic elements in it.In the Civ-style games I would only have the bare minimum amount of military for me to survive, and focus on exploring the world and developing tech, terraforming in Alpha Centauri or whatever. In EU5 there is finally something to do outside of war, but it still honestly does feel like a war game. The game is very lonely in country interactions even compared to EU4, with the exception of royal marriages which are mostly about forming unions. It feels like there should be ways to peacefully interact with other countries' economies and more diplomatic tools, but you can't even share research without stealing it using a spy network (and your ally does not even mind that you are stealing maps from them on cooldown.) There's no country of interest system so you don't hear about events that are happening to your neighbors unless you subscribe to hearing about that from ALL of the ridiculous amount of counties in the world. When you realize how it works you can invest in literacy buildings to boost your research, but that caps out pretty quickly and it is hard to compete with green numbers. It is at least an option, but mass-building anything in a large country gets tiring.
>>2497466Addendum because I don't think I got to the point:It's nice that EU5 tries to represent other aspects of history besides war, instead of cultural events being something that "happens to you" in EU4 instead of something you actively do. In EU5 there is economy building, art, cultural influence, literacy, historical people as characters you can theoretically interact with, although you can't do enough with them. There are a number of problems with the implementation, but the key problem is that it's all domestic, I think. It feels like the whole cultural influence system is built so that you can sway other countries for peaceful interactions or even annexation, but it's not that. It just makes your minorities go away in your own country to an unrealistic extent, and increases your spy network progress for some reason.Same with characters, they don't really interact with each other. And trade, while there are probably interactions going on, it's all abstracted away and the player doesn't interact with it so it doesn't feel meaningful. You would think countries with close bonds with each other would have favorable trade relations and all that, but I don't think that's how it works. If the only way to interact with other countries is through war, then I don't think it's surprising for people to focus on conquering instead of sitting around for centuries. And in that case you might as well pick something where war is at least somewhat interesting for a while (a small country.)

Hopefully daily ticks will speed the game up enough for me to reach the Reformation, go Lutheran, and stop playing when I see WW1 scale armies and casualties.
>>2497470Speaking of kids, is there any other way to ensure higher stats outside of expensive education? It feels like even if i use that they still mostly end up with stats in the 50's and 60's.

>>2497500>>What campaign are you starting tomorrow?Portugal. Going to see if the change to day ticks makes pacing better, i.e, able to reach the age of discovery in a reasonable timeframe. (I still think rough morning/day/evening/night ticks would be best.) Performance benefits are a secondary bonus. However, I find it hilarious that they're removing hourly ticks in the same patch they're releasing a big early game warfare DLC, which absolutely would benefit from hourly ticks.Tinto would get way less pushback on their changes if they had any sense of timing, do this when you add a bunch of content to the Wars of Religion, or New World colonization, so that people will say "oh yay now I can get to the cool new stuff faster!" Another absurdly obvious consequence of them selling multiple DLCs before the game was even out, ensuring they'll be perpetually behind and reactive.

>>2498127They announced a 2.0 engoodening update. There's no point playing until q3 2027 when it leaves early access. (probably 2028 let's be real)It's the same effect as when they announced EU5 in May and EU4 player counts dropped even though it wasn't out until November.Everyone now realizes this is the beta so nobody's playing except volunteer QA testers.

Played all day, here's my review of all new mechanics.Betrothals>Fun:10/10>Functionality: 5/10>Depth added: 5/10So fucking fun. Easy to get PUs now, easy to spread dynasty, serves very little purpose in game but feels very good. Will play an Austria game on the strength of this alone. Points down for functionality because it still has some of the usual QoL failures (can't arrange betrothal with receiver, have to arrange it through your courtiers, game still suggests old characters even with "age limit" filter on, PU interface is still cancer.)Expanded Trade orders>Fun: 0/10>Functionality: 5/10>Depth added: 0/10Essentially pointless. It "works" (albeit janky to set up) but it is never worth doing because the default automation is always better, may become useful later when colonies get going.Expeditions>Fun: 2/10>Functionality: 8/10>Depth added: 2/10Kinda neat the first time, then you realise you'll be spamming relic searches every 5 years for the rest of the game. This Indiana Jones shit should really be once every 50 years or so, it's essentially a watered down shit version of CK3 tours only without interactability. Works well, but no purpose to it.Cardinals>Fun: 2/10>Functionality: 0/10>Depth added: 0/10Neat to have them as real people, but they still do nothing. You lose cardinals seemingly randomly, they have no interaction, really feels like the intention is for them to be "fleshed out in two more weeks!" like everything else.Ring mana>Fun: 0/10>Functionality: 0/10>Depth added: -10/10Absolute fucking dog shit as anyone with a brain knew it would be. Arbitrary restriction on gameplay based on whether your mana meter has filled up. You only notice it when it's being a hindrance. Also painfully poorly balanced. (Making head of cabinet is 50 mana, getting 25 parliament support is 75.)Hour ticks>Fun: 5/10>Functionality: 0/10>Depth added: N/AFun in that the pacing of the game is better, non-functional because it fucks with battles.
>>2498157agree with most things must you're wrong about hourly ticks, it's functional really and a good change overall
>>2498157The new trade orders probably are very useful. The default automation sucks ass once you have a colonial/pseudo colonial market set up to trade with your industrialized home market, you can make a gorillion ducats manipulating prices. But the default automation always equalizes prices, yields a bunch of stuff to b*rgher trades, exports your materials to random foreign countries, and so onThe "fill shortages" order alone seems like it'd fix half the issues with tardwrangling partially-automated trade
>>2498157>Kinda neat the first time, then you realise you'll be spamming relic searches every 5 years for the rest of the game.Yeah so like I thought, it's the dwarven expeditions from Anbennar
>>2498157Agreed on all of this, though I hadn't checked out betrothals so thanks for pointing it out. Ring mana is such a disappointment- it's lazy. Feels like the devs made a list of checklist items players agreed are important for setting up your country (setting advisors, granting good privs, abusing estate interactions) and made up a new currency to time-gate doing it. It's not harder to do any of these things, but it does take longer now. You need to keep getting distracted by other things as you do it bit by bit as you passively accumulate more out of the air. It's one step up from the 10 year enforce culture cooldown, but only one.
>>2498187I think ring mana is an attempt to decouple some buttons from gold so they don't interact with scaling costs. For example, naming a head of cabinet costing 50 rings is retarded. But having it cost any amount of legitimacy is even dumber, once your country grows that could be hundreds, thousands, or even 10k+ ducats in court costs. The best case would be it costs something like base 20 rings +- an amount based on what estate they belong to and how powerful/friendly it is + your crown power vs other estates' powerRing mana just feels like a timer because you can't make it skyrocket to infinity so fast like gold.
>>2498192Just have it cost NO ring mana, NO money, and the consequence is whatever estate you give it to gets a huge buff in power (more than the current inconsequential amount.)If it's a crown member have it reduce satisfaction of all estates, a "nepotism" malus. This can all be done very well and very realistically, no ide why they keep choosing to fall back to making the game less realistic and more arcadey with mana. You can take the EU4 dev out of the shit game, but you can't take the shit game out of the EU4 dev.
>>2493994>>2494016PRshillbro, your response?
>>2498192Yeah, before this every mana was created by converting some amount of money mana into it, with a maximum of how much you can convert per month. That's obviously going to lead to problems when you also use money mana to generate more money mana per month. Ring mana is created separately and passively, you can't build some condenser in your cities to pull in more from the air. It's decoupled, but even if it's different it's not very good. I guess there's room for skill expression with the order you use your ring mana in, but that does not excite me. I do not want to theory-craft out whether to spend the third set of 20 ring mana you generate on granting another early game privilege vs buying diplomats from the nobles estate.
>>2498200>I do not want to theory-craft out whether to spend the third set of 20 ring mana you generate on granting another early game privilege vs buying diplomats from the nobles estate.kek true, it seems more "balanced" but it's not really exciting gameplay to figure out where to spend your manaBut EU4 was massively successful and half the game is spending mana, so I don't know what that meansMaybe the appeal of EU4 wasn't mana but the dopamine you get from clicking strong buttons, and they had to use mana to gate them so you couldn't press the buttons too fast and trivialize the game (it didnt work)
Reminder the term "money mana" was invented by the Tinto team while drunk on malbec mana to defer criticism of they lazy "development" choices. Be assured anyone using it is either on the payroll or doing it for free.
>>2498202Retards who started the series with 4 (so probably 90% of the devs, to be fair to your point) started calling all resources "mana" even when they're not"Mana" is an abstraction, it's not a real thingMoney is a real thing, it's a resourceManpower is a real thing, it's a resource"Administrative power" etc are abstractions that exist to be spent and to restrict how much of something you can do, it's manaPrestige/legitimacy/stability are abstractions, but they are intended to represent something, not to be spent and to gate actions. They are not mana, despite the fact that sometimes they can be spent in certain contexts as tradeoffs
>>2498130>>2498136cope
>>2498209Disingenuous EU4 fags butthurt they didn't get EU4 2 (although they rapidly are) always spam the "money is mana" meme, funny how no one ever claimed money was mana in EU4, despite it being infinitely more one dimensional than EU5.They're not capable of a single good faith argument, it's always the same shit with them, goalpost shifting, false equivalences, and if that fails just downright lying.Never seen a group of people more obviously filtered before. Sure, EU4 might have been fun when they were kids, but they should be past risk lite by now. Surely they've got all the Ulm WC cheevos.
eu5tards should invest in some argument mana generation to spend on their rhetoric or maybe some anus defense mana to stop getting bootybothered by ulm

>>2498335I thought it was too limiting at first but then once you're done doing all your advisors, laws and all that crap it just piles up at 1.8 to 2 a month so it's like whatever. Just another mana bar to keep track of.
>>2498339So it's fucking pointless? It just seems like an annoyance. At least gold/stability/legitimacy mana at least make some sense... this was just added on to slow shit down.

>>2498335>>2498339>>2498354>it's too limiting>it's not limiting enoughdecide ffs
>>2498369None of those comments contradict each other.
>>2498369Ring mana takes your start-of-game setup and forces you to stretch it out over a few years instead of being done before ever unpausing. However nothing about those underlying systems has changed, so once you do have it done you'll rarely, if ever, need to spend ring mana like this again over the next 500 years. It's a minor inconvenience in the short term and a pointless addition in the long term. How is this too complicated for you to understand?
>>2498372>Ring mana takes your start-of-game setup and forces you to stretch it out over a few years instead of being done before ever unpausing. That's good?

>>2498439every country having 0 mana on the start is dumb it should be calculated from age and ruler stats somehow
>>2498439No, the game is very obviously bad in many ways. But taking one bad part of the game and giving it a side-grade on how dumb and annoying it is isn't actually making the game better. The underlying systems are the problem, and Tinto's repeated insistence that putting a new coat of paint over them will fix it is at best a poor use of developer time (Claude tokens). How many man-hours were spent changing the game from >players are handing out 10 privs before unpausingto>players are handing out 10 privs in the first 2% of the game
>>2498457i literally alt tabbed before unpausing lmao
>>2498439Yes, 100%, as it lowered your legitimacy for doing so. The king randomly deciding to grant a bunch of privileges on the same day is something that could happen, but would erode trust in his rule, as it would be deemed him ceding power, such acts historically only happened when the King was forced to bend the knee (magna carta) or when the king was inept and powerless (Polish Sejm)>b-but legitimacy refills too quick and there are hardly any consequences for low legitimacyThat is a separate issue, and something that should be addressed. Low legitimacy should be absolutely crippling, you should not be able to have a functional viable state if your legitimacy is low, nor should a few months of buying "cost of court" fix such a fundamental and inherent structural issue.Ultimately the price for privileges is giving estates power over you, the EU4fags trying to make "legitimacy mana" a meme have either never played the game or don't understand it if they genuinely believe legitimacy is the limiting factor on privileges, if it was you could give out literally every single one without issue.

Hey bros. I haven’t played EU5 in a year now because I’ve been busy, but I’m itching to play tonight. Can someone give me a QRD on the changes? Has it gotten better or worse? I had fun playing but it was such a time investment.
so they changed assimilation in the beta, instead of assimilating to your primary culture pops now assimilate to the dominant culture in the locationstill only in cores, conversion isnt affected
>>2498603what's the point? cores demand cultural dominance accepted cultures already didn't get assimilated
>>2496749WHY IS CURRENT PARADOX ART SOULESS? IS IT AI?also i ignore bureaucracies they confuse me what am i missing out on

>>2498603Do jews still go extinct by 1400?
>>2498606It does nerf blobbing somewhat because now you don't get passive assimilation in cores that you get by accepting a culture. It's sort of pointless change because any location with more than something like 3k pops would never flip to primary culture from accepted culture off passive assimilation. What it actually does is improves game performance slightly because it actually reduces the amount of minorities the AI in particularly has. If you are say AI Ottomans and conquer into Bulgaria and accept Bulgarian which AI would do, the previous behavior would create locations where they had 100k Bulgarians and 10k Turks. Now it creates locations that have just 110k Bulgarians unless the AI comes in with a wizard.
>>2498612>IS IT AI?Some of it definitely is, there's a lot of images in popups and stuff where there are so many mistakes or things that make 0 sense that it has to be AI

>>2498537>Bout time we got some railroading.I know this is a different topic but EU5's problem is it has too much railroading, and it just happens mechanically rather than by having railroad event probabilities to form the proto-PLC 6 months into the game in EU4.EU4 has MORE variance despite its active railroading. I had an EU4 run as a southeast asian country and when I finally got vision of Europe, Lithuania had a PU over Muscovy and Poland/Venice were allied and were in the middle of stomping the Ottomans and partitioning Anatolia between themselves. Something like that would never, ever happen in EU5. You don't even get England winning the HYW occasionally. And this applies to both historical and ahistorical outcomes. The reasons why France always wins the HYW are the same as the reasons why Kyiv succeeds instead of Lithuania. There's just not enough chaos in the system, and the CPU doesn't use what chaos there is in a meaningful way.In EU4 it's mainly just rivals and alliances. You're playing as Crimea but Genoa randomly allies France, so taking their territory in the steppes area is pain. That alliance is unlikely to happen in EU5 because countries are less willing to ally in general. And even if they did ally and were willing to join your war, it would be useless because France would be unable to effectively defend Genoan colonies in the steppes. Even as a player France would have a challenge with food supplies, so the AI is completely incapable of doing wars outside of countries immediately bordering it, which often makes your allies useless, even when they're not shipping 0-morale tiny stacks behind enemy lines to pretend to siege something and then get massacred.I'm not sure this means EU5 CPU countries should be more willing to ally, because I do think the difficulty of allying also has some good effects. But the AI's inability to do war outside its own borders is a problem in a lot of ways.

I’m dealing with a union for the first time and I have no idea what’s happening. I voted to be established senior partner, and I am senior partner. I’m trying to do other things, and I think I have to call a parliament, but it says I need an integration level of 1, but it’s 0. I know integration levels go up when a centralization law is passed, but how am I supposed to do that if I can’t start a parliament to pass a law? I just don’t understand what’s happening.
>>2499287You don't call the parliament unless a 3rd partner joins the union later that has a different integration level. The gameplay with a fresh union is to wait until the laws unlock. You get new options every few years and the voting itself has a cooldown. Most laws have a centralization law that unlocks more options and eventually integration and a passive bonus that's good to have if you don't want to integrate. So basically just wait for 5 or 10 years and the next law unlocks and you get your next pick.
>>2499287I'm not looking at the game atm but you're probably just getting confused by tooltips. When you've been in a union for a certain amount of decades you unlock a new law to vote on each time. These laws are primarily how you increase integration level, although you have options that don't increase it and instead aim for using the union as a decentralized alliance. If you choose all integration laws then you eventually unlock the ability to diplomaticaly annex union members. The only time parliament is usable is when you add a new member to your union when the union already existed and had integration laws passed. The parliament takes the existing laws that currently apply to the existing junior members, and applies those laws to the new junior member.
>>2499287just wait, you need time to pass before you can centralize union lawsunion parliament is for synchronizing union laws when you get more than one juniors
recently tried vic3 and got a newfound appreciation for eu5
>>2499297>recently tried vic3 and got a newfound appreciation for eu5I've been reflecting on something lately. I've had a lot of studios over the years that I used to like, and eventually they fell off and made a shitty game, and I just immediately wrote them off foreverParadox is unique in that I've been playing their games for decades, and rather than just immediately fucking up and putting out a shitty game I hate, for the last ten years or so, they've just been gradually getting worse and lamer, very slowly, but not so suddenly bad that I drop themSort of like a boiling pot, I guess

>>2499371It will gradually go up towards it's equilibrium, check the max control.
>>2499288>>2499290>>2499294I guess what confused me is a tooltip saying one of the members was going to leave because of different succession laws (there are three members), and it said in the tooltip to call a parliament to fix it. Then earlier, then I tried clicking the succession law issue in the union tab, it said there were no policies that I can do (after waiting 10 years), so I selected the establish seniority one. Now I can’t do the succession law one but maybe that’s because I’m missing other requirements now. Or there’s a cool off?
>>2499371Roads only help if the province where the road starts out from has enough proximity to carry to the next province along the line.
>>2499380your issue is probably from heir religion succession lawit's a regular country law, you need to switch to religious group then force it on the junior (i forgot what it's called in game, unify succession law?)
>>2499386The problem actually fixed itself because I only had a daughter and no son, but since I had my son, everyone will stay in the union. I just need to figure out how to pass union laws though. It’s been maybe 5 years since I established seniority, but I’m getting fucked over at home by court costs being so high and not having enough money to upkeep my legitimacy.
>>2499250I reloaded the game and now it works fine. I'm not even close to the province count required anyway I'm at 45 out of 224 and the tooltip said I only had 30 years.
>>2499380One of the integration laws allows you to force your succession law on your union members, but you may or may not have that yet, in which case there's not much you can do.If you do have that law enacted then you can force them to change their law via the diplomacy menu under Union Actions.

I've kind of run out of things to do myself, but it's 1770 so whatever.I messed up the first half of the playthrough because I didn't know what I was doing, and I think even though I recovered somewhat I can't undo the missed opportunities. I hardly care about expanding outside Italy anyway, and every Italian war requires fighting the entire HRE so I can't be bothered. My standing army is barely breaking even on manpower at 150k soldiers, and my manpower is pretty low. I built every possible manpower building, but I expect my national population is lower now than it would have been if I knew what I was doing.I don't think I can realistically beat Tunis (allied with Morocco) or Egypt, which are the only countries I could be motivated to fight at this point. Allies are less than useless for this.It also feels pointless to build 20,000 economy buildings at this point so I might just basically AFK for the last 60 years and see if anything interesting happens with revolutions.I'd like to do some kind of pacifist-ish playthrough, but I'm not experienced enough to know what to set as a goal so that's on hold for the time being. Guys, guys, here’s an idea: dynamic Ahistorical events
I feel like I have to do a land acknowledgement to EU4 players whenever I discuss EU5.I started playing Paradox games back when they were good (HoI3, Victoria 2, CK2, EU3), then there came a wave of dogshit terrible zoomer dopamine blobber games (HoI4, Victoria 3, CK3, EU4). Aimed at appealing to the lowest common denominators, the dregs of humanity who would simply eat their mindless repetitive slop and then buy more DLC for it.Now EU5 takes the games back to how they used to be, mechanically complex with pops, a UI that doesn't look like a mobile game, and something to actually do in the game other than blob, and the new wave of casuals from the inbetween times are mad as hell about it. They're used to mass appeal slop, and so are impotently seething about player numbers. They can't appreciate things like pops or trade routes or microing production efficiency because they never had to do that before, they only know map painting. Me trying to understand them is like trying to understand an animal's thoughts, but then the very question itself is wrong. Animals are incapable of thought, and the EU4 players are the same. They do their cheevos, they follow their content creators, the very idea of actually coming up with a fun playthrough themselves inspired by their love of history or the mechanics of the game is alien to them. They are less than animals, they are like insects, following only base instincts, in the same way ants forage for food these "people" do their Ulm WCs, get their cheevos, and then they go back to being completely brainless vapid automatons with no thought in their head. They have no life, they do not live, their bodies keep them alive but they lack the capacity for life too, they're just organs and flesh. I would pity them if they in their ignorance didn't malign me for being above them, instead thus I am filled with a rage and hatred against them for their malevolence towards those of us imbued with souls.
glad for you or sorry that happened

EU5 simply isn't a good game. In any normal grand strategy game you get a mission or focus tree to give you a natural sense of progression, on top of that you don't get arbitrarily punished by complex "control" mechanics in real grand strategies. If you try to work around this and make vassals you have to spend years integrating them. War is also tedious to deal with, having to manage supply lines and disease. Those aren't fun mechanics. Also, why do I have to micro my pops literacy to research technology faster? What was wrong with them costing a simple currency? The whole goods/markets crap slows down the game and detracts from what it's supposed to be about. This game has nothing to do with Europa Universalis. No wonder playercounts are so low, ordinary people like me are turned off by this crap.

so optimal strat is forming china for accepted cultures as sunni kyiv, right? that way you can still raid for slaves while opposing the orcs
I think it's sort of funny watching Johan seethe because the specific way he does reveals the insecurity he has about the game. Like he frames the people who dislike the game as people who "just don't understand microing literacy" even though the game is bad specifically because you don't need to micro literacy, or manage control or manage supply lines or diseases.
If you "don't need to manage control" why are you "people" constantly seething about it? They had to add governors just to placate you.
>>25004311.0 control was much much easier than post governors control and the fact that you now have to make at least some decisions increased the amount you had to think about control. Again a fundamental misunderstanding of how the game works which sort of reveals that you have in fact not played the game.
>its okay that i am too retarded to understand the mechanics of the game, because i can still play sub-optimally in my ignorance of themdo eu4iggers really
1.0 control was only well projected after you'd spammed modifiers in the mid to late game, your average EU4fag whining about control was already blown out on this before it had even hit 1400.
also when they changed it so uncontrolled wealth went to estates control didn't really matter anymore, either way that money was getting reinvested either as RGOs or roadsanother concession to the blobbing hordes that want to be able to paint the map and yet still reap the rewards of territory they couldn't realistically control in real life
>>2500433Don't you have it backwards? In 1.0 you had to extend proximity and maritime presence, put bailiffs in the right spots, it even mattered if you were up/downstream on a river. And sometimes it was better to use subjects. In 1.3/4 you just throw down governors everywhere so it's like you have 3-5 capitals, and subjects are trash. Oh and they added the magic proximity modifier for your capital's terrain too.
>>2500439In 1.0 you usually had 100 control over the entire planet because control cost went to 0. There were no real decisions anywhere, if you saw a control buff you just took it and that's how your control went up. In the current game it's not even always the correct choice to take weak control buffs because there's an actual gameplay even if weak around control.
>>2500445Realistically you still always take the proximity speed because the diminishing returns don't really start being not worth it until you get +200% prox speed, which you won't get in normal gameplay. It was really just a change aimed at the metagamers who were forming Roman Korean Russia to get -100% prox cost.
>>2500446>Realistically you still always take the proximity speedFirst of all that's just not true, play the game but more importantly again the system was just flat out easier and had less decisions than it does now, it's just a fact.
>>2500445>In the current game it's not even always the correct choice to take weak control buffs because there's an actual gameplay even if weak around control. How? Which control/proximity buffs are you passing up? Stacking them still seems amazing and it's easier than ever when you have more proximity sources
>>2500448>and it's easier than ever when you have more proximity sourceHow many sources you have is irrelevant when in one version the control went trivially to 100 globally and in the other it simply doesn't. This makes the first version significantly easier to deal with.
>>2500449>the control went trivially to 100 globallyeh that didn't really happen though. You're exaggerating. Russia was OP in 1.0 but pic related is a 1.0 game, this is as much as you get in normal non-exploit play stacking modifiers. It's a lot but it does run out when you get past the core of Russia. Given that Russia can now place 4 more 80-proximity sources, the map would probably look greener overall. And since you can place them anywhere, the green can be in important places you want, instead of relying on geography. Want to build the USSR 300 years early but Hungary or Bohemia are too far away? no problem, just place a governor. In 1.0 you had to either use a subject, build bailiffs in important locations, or both, and you'd still never fully control it simply due to geography. Plus there's naval governors now for stupid shit like conquering Constantinople.
>>2500450>you'd still never fully control it simply due to geographyAgain this is double wrong. Not only does this happen in the current version since governors do precisely this (you will never get 100 proximity with them) but getting 100 proximity was again trivially possible in 1.0 because you could just overcome geography with the modifiers you always took no matter what (which is no longer possible). Not only would the map just not be as green as it was in the current version but if you actually ran the game for 50 more years and unlocked another -5 or -10 it would be significantly more green in the past and not much more in the current one. The fact that you can choose few areas to focus on currently vs getting it everywhere in the past is not only more difficult overall but actually has some gameplay choice included. I do not know why this is the hill you choose to die on but consider this my final response to this asinine bait.
>>2500452>trivially possibleGo ahead and list the modifiers you took to get -100% proximity cost.

Due to the food/population growth changes eternally occupying a nation is now even more lethal than it used to be. >>2501603I did this to Bohemia in 1.3, but it took many years and lots of war exhaustion reduction. I guess starvation comes more quickly now.

these assholes programmed this on purpose
>>2501761>pop growth got gutted so recovering is totally impossible now.I've had the opposite experience. Pops grow very rapidly either up to population cap or until a disease and then there's a mass die off. Very boom-bust.
can't you just foodmaxx with a few farmlands provinces and urbanise everything else? they pump out a fuck ton of food especially if they have wheat
>>2501782You must have played 1.3 very wrong then. Objectively pop growth got gutted across the board.
>>2501777Just have the debate fail. It's still a good issue.
>>2501786I haven't played 1.4, but they said a while ago it will change the way food/population growth works.According to their dev diary:>Population growth now comes from actual food surplus rather than hoarded stockpiles>Spare land no longer speeds population growth on its own; food surplus drives it>Population growth now slows near capacity, and overcrowded locations lose people>Large cities and harsh winters now sharply reduce local food production, scaled by settlement sizeI already find it pretty oppressive trying to conquer areas late game where newly occupied territories can't feed my armies for more than a month or two. I imagine it would be even worse now.
>>2501827>where newly occupied territories can't feed my armies for more than a month or two.I like this on paper but in practice the "perform logistics" mission does absolutely nothing, so you have to manually move food carts back and forth, and supply depots don't work because they refill the carts as soon as you empty them. Baffling since johan was talking about the supply system before release like he was playing with it, and somehow didn't seem to realize it is borderline non-functional on land.No idea if they fixed this yet.

>>2501878you never want your rural retards to just migrate where they please. it's almost always best to just move them to your capital so they're useful
Where can I download the beta patch?
Burgundy to EU4's start date, played on 1.4 Beta, Very Hard/Very Hard/ High Aggression. It's is still easy and still EU5, but I begrudgingly admit Ring Mana is good for the game. It did slow down my early game country setup- I was still able to hit 50% Crown Power before 1400 (my benchmark of success) but wasn't able to hold it longterm for another 20 years. Way better to shoot for 40-45% which is what I'm doing now, you sacrifice too much for those final percentage points. Having high ring mana boost estate satisfaction recovery rates is very good, it makes you want to keep the tank full while still needing to spend it. Sometimes you have nothing better to do than buy courtiers, but right now I'm low because some random events lined up.Managing rebels is becoming a more central feature, and is an enjoyable way to interact with the non-combat side of things. There's a real balancing act to be done with how much you tax estates and how much stability you have while you plan to revoke privs, use estate actions, and perform reductions. Being able to blob quickly and snowball while avoiding coalitions and rebellions is going to be what shows game mastery. There have been a couple noble rebellions that I accepted because the law change they asked for was either helpful or negligible (one made me close by borders, another later made me open them), and the privilege at that point only cost like 14 stability to revoke. Accepting also gives you a free 5 aristocracy and 5 serfdom :)Rebellions and the game in general would be easier if Johan hadn't gutted subject play so hard- I think Centralized is the way to go now. Subject culture converting still has the 10 year global CD, always causes an independence movement, and they flip back to their old culture ASAP. Only take land in your culture group early so you can cheaply accept cultures (costs ring mana) and directly hold it. I'm finally using subjects for something besides culture conversion factories, congrats Johan.
>>2502101Also betrothals make the game easier but are fun and a good addition. Always losing your character because they move to that country is annoying, but gives it an opportunity cost. My current king is the heir to Milan, and his granddaughter will eventually be the heir of Austria. It'll be expensive and I may lose my dynasty name, but I'll change my inheritance laws in the future to make her my ruler too. With our crowns combined I could crush Italy and the HRE (or stop playing because I'm bored).HRE AI is lobotomized and never has any wars. The Hussite Wars situation doesn't actually exist, Bohemia and Austria were allied through the whole thing.
Gemini fix the mess that Johan left
>>2502101Isn't the crown power meta different now anyway? Like 30+% is all you really need or somethingI've been keeping peasant satisfaction at 100% as well, pretty sure it's worth it now>if Johan hadn't gutted subject play so hardIt's crazy how many local government type mechanics should just be subjects, but they seem to be phasing out the very concept of subjects altogether because fiefdoms were meta like a year ago so they must be nerfed forever and everAnd probably because too many subjects wrecks performance as every little country has its own court
>>2502140>Isn't the crown power meta different now anyway? Like 30+% is all you really need or somethingNo one can convince me this laundry list of buffs isn't worth it. Why give privs to make the estates happy when I get so much equilibrium from Crown Power? Cabinet efficiency is also huge. I can pick crown estate parliament issues and hit 50% support by spending 75 ring mana, too.

As the byzantines, I give my nobles the private army privilege. You might think, "wait, isn't that antithetical to the whole byzantine system?" but I larp that it's the army that the Senate can raise, a strengthening of the senate back to maybe principate levels of political power. If senators were represented as a class they would obviously be nobles.Although, I don't like that their regiment amount scales only with their population and not also their political power. Wondering why they didn't basically just make this CK3 but further in the future. There's all these mechanics that are halfway there, but only halfway. It would make so much more sense if you needed to make subdivisions of your country since your ruler can't manage all of it at the same time. Then the massive amount of noble courtiers would make sense, and it would also provide a potential way for large countries to naturally splinter after a few generations.
>>2502409>It would make so much more sense if you needed to make subdivisions of your country since your ruler can't manage all of it at the same timeThey had that, it was overpowered or something so they nerfed it and now there's like 5 different governor buildings that add control everywhere

Just remove the mana costs all together.>b-but what about appointing cabinet members! That should have never cost any currency in the first place. The situation we are in now is that the EU4 players and even the devs are so mindbroken by mana that they literally can not comprehend a mechanic that doesn't use it. As far as they're concerned if something doesn't cost birds or rings or swords it's not fit for purpose. They're wrong, and the game will continue to be shit until they realize this.

>>2503583That's literally the description from the game.
>>2503587And? Has no relation to >>2503578which is blown out here>>2503581
>>2503588Explain, in your mind, how these two statements aren't related:>This Location has been granted rights of self-governance, reducing direct Crown authority in exchange for greater freedom to attract settlers and conduct trade.>the king abnegating his divine right to absolute rule in favor of letting burghers and peasants run buck wild You can take the L on this one or keep making a fool of yourself, either way this is the last reply you're getting.
why do urban rights debuff productivity instead of local crown power
>>2503592You conveniently left out the claim that that would impact legitimacy when in real world special economic zones would often increase the legitimacy of the government.See>>2503588>>2503593The mechanical reason is that you can't just stack them for free and the justification is that if you gear a place around certain industry it's going to be weaker in other industries which makes sense. Your town lowers your taxes on imports of wool to help the clothing industry, that's going to mean increase on taxes on everything else to cover the cost etc.
>>2503480I've decided to actually just make it into my own gsg with eu5 as a reference point. What would you like to see added when it's done with the basic framework of the game? I've instructed it to make it as extendable as possible, so that the basic game/setting will be a mod loaded like any other, so I can add/remove modules as I please later on.
You can only have one for the rest of your life, which is it going to be?
>>2503577No? And lets say it is moronic, there are other situations in the game where the crown gives certain liberties to the states in exchange for legitimacy, which is a perfect representation of what >>2503578 says. My point is that having legitimacy in the game is completely fine and even necessary.

Is it normal for half of my towns to be net negative?Armories, libraries, universities, monasteries, temples, wharfs, docks, protected harbor, etc all cost so much that the locations are pretty regularly negative. The only exception are ones built in provinces with good RGO like Iron where I can build firearms, tools, and weaponry.
>>2503679Build green number buildings niggas BTFOIt is normal if the raw materials are more expensive than the output. Check your market before deciding what to build.
>>2503680No buildings are green, they're all getting 0.10~ return. Only industry that returns a profit is cloth, and even that's been overproduced to thin margins.Damn amazon burghers mean I have enough of everything already.
>>2503685Maybe you need to generate demand for goods. If you are playing in a region with low development it might take a minute.
>>2503679The explosive growth phase is over. You'll still unlock new buildings that will increase demand again, but less explosively than you were in early game because your locations are built up now. Solution is simple: conquer more land, so you have more locations to urbanize and build armories, universities, temples, docks, etc etc, in. You also get their raw materials which is always good. Grow for the sake of growth. Blob like a slime culture, or a cancer.
>>2503625let it go unc, it has been 20 years
>>2503702I'll still be playing Victoria 2 when I'm 90, next week!
>>2503685If no building is green you gotta stop building buildings, build RGO's (though to be frank you should have them maxed out all the time but just in case you are retarded check your RGO's) and marketplaces instead. If none of those are available then you need to work on raising your taxes instead to improve your economy.
So do cardinals actually do anything as characters or was it really just adding a name to them and no other effects?
>>2503836Nothing meaningful at least.
>>2503597>Your town lowers your taxes on imports of wool to help the clothing industry, that's going to mean increase on taxes on everything else to cover the cost etc.no? by improving the textile industry we can collect more revenue despite lower nominal taxes due to it being more productive
>>2503883That's now how any of that works. Early modern period towns don't operate on some kind of post globalism scaling economics. Towns in this period had weird rules and taxes like taxation based on windows or doors and taxes on goods entering and exiting the walls or taxes or fees on using the marketplace etc. If you as a king come in and command them to bend the rules to benefit certain professions then they need to be compensated in other ways not some future promise that totally will increase revenues trust me bro. If the revenues increase in the future then that's just a bonus, more money for them.

>>2503480>>2503623Okay so here's my first visual result. So far Claude made:>basic framework for the simulation>map generator with political, terrain, climate, culture, religion, pop, area generation and map modes (for now this is random, based on a seed)>Map viewer which feels nice and snappy and loops the world around like you would in your paradox gamesIt ain't much to look at yet, but this was only step 2 out of the 14 that claude has defined so far. Step 3 is basic simulation with passage of time and apparently evolving economies and pops. Just for observation, no gameplay yet.
>>2504019Terrain view. The rest of the map modes aren't that interesting currently.

>>2504105That got added several patches ago, when they fixed AI aggressiveness and castille was eating portugal every game.
>>2504109Must be the semi-railroaded Iberian wedding that's causing more friendly Castile/Portugal in my observer games then. The AI conquest desire seems to do very little/nothing for me. For example, Lithuania seeks to blob in Kiev, but obviously never do.Interesting to note the description for the location even describes that it should be a Lithuanian vassal at start, yet it isn't in game.
What is the point of trade orders as a mechanic when it doesn't do anythingYou can set them up even with 0 profit and they will still just not follow the orderYou can turn off automated trading so that there is absolutely no way for anything to get in its way, and it will still not import or export anything even at a loss
>>2504141They help you set up stuff like spice trade because 2 intermediate markets in particular where neither market has strong demand (such as 2 colonial markets in Africa) act as strong barrier for automated trade.
>>2504141Entire trade/economy system is fucked because they refuse to add demand for anything. Pic related is global fine cloth demand, red means there is low demand, yellow means there's high demand. You'll note there's absolutely no yellow on the map. No market in the entire world has a shortage of fine cloth, anywhere, at any time, there is always a vast global surplus of it. The same applies for all goods other than cases where the game puts artificial demand for goods in (like the slave trade event). This could easily be fixed if they actually cared about their game or knew what they were doing.
>>2504147The way the economy works if there was "demand" for something that would just mean free money and you would simply build more of that thing until theres no longer demand. That's the only way a system like this can work.
>>2504148The problem is the homogeneity of markets. Every market produces the same, every market consumes the same.It should be the case that wool is cheap in England, fine cloth is cheap in Flanders, Glass is cheap in Verona, etc, and they trade from the cheap market to the expensive one. Instead England, Flanders, and Verona all produce the same amount of each and consume the same amount of each, always a surplus as well. The system is perfectly capable of functioning with goods having high demand/low supply, hence the economy not shitting itself when aforementioned events like the slave trade happen.
>>2504148It will always be funny to me that while all of EU5's systems are clearly complex on a mathematic and coding level, what they end up simulating and encouraging in play is so simple and ahistoric. All this work, and you make systems that a different game wants to use.
>>2504155Johan quite clearly wanted to make Victoria 3, and you can't exactly blame him given how shit V3 was and is.
>>2504150>The problem is the homogeneity of marketsAgain that's something that can't be solved with the way the game works. >It should be the case that wool is cheap in England, fine cloth is cheap in Flanders, Glass is cheap in Verona, etc, and they trade from the cheap market to the expensive one. That's how it works.>hence the economy not shitting itself when aforementioned events like the slave trade happenThat's only because you can't make slaves in most places. If there was "magical" more cloths!! event then that would make the number on cloths greener and you would build more cloths until the number is no longer green. It's not that the system can't function with demand, it's that when there's demand there's free money to be had which means you will make money until the free money is gone because of course you will it's free money.
>>2504150the problem is that unlike in vic2 excess goods just get sold to the sky vending machine, creating a mass of excess money that feed into the overproduction loopif buildings couldnt do that and wouldnt be profitable on overproduction none of this would be a problem
>>2504158>excess goods just get sold to the sky vending machineSource?
>>2504190you dont play the game?>lumber excess in the market>lumber mill would be profitable>who buys it?the sky vending machine
>>2504201You have literally never played the game. They're only profitable because the price of tools is lower than the price of lumber.

>>2504331You know, most people don't like locking half the game behind paid DLC. Did you want them to lock betrothals, tariffs, and trade orders behind a paywall?Right now the base game needs to be fixed, so it's for the best if the DLC sticks to toga merchants.
>>2504333>You know, most people don't like locking half the game behind paid DLCPeople say that but I've never seen any evidence its true. Because the only player bump Paradox games get after the first year or so is when a new DLC comes out, and "hey heres an exclusive thing you can own that makes the game better!" has a better marketing spin to it than Johan coming out next October and announcing they're finally done ""fixing"" this 2 year old game.
