are you ready for the /vst/ renaissance?
Are you ready for the vibecode renaissance?
>>2512735>>a steam game takes at least 3 weeks to publish, even if you already have the game (need to get your page approved, then wait for two weeks)>>so realistically the games that come out now have been in development for 1 month+ >>most games of the month october probably didn't release in the past couple of days either>>GPT-6.1 Sol was released on September 29th it's going to get exponentally worse from this point on, isn't it?
What happened near the end of 2013?
"strategy" includes every aicoded incremental game from the recent next fest
>>2512942what was the fests theme?
>>2512944low effort ai coded crap
>>2512945based
>>2512735business sim after business sim. God help us all.
>>2512735this is because "incrementals" ie cookieclickers got bundled into strategy.
>>2513098>"incrementals" ie cookieclickers got bundled into strategyalways have been
>>2512773>>2512735unironically AI slop will save this genre from being completely dead, if nothing else than for the ability for randos to actually fix broken classics to run well on modern PCsthere's a big library to work with too
>>2512735I'm currently using claude + gpt to make my own version of a game that is actually good and these retarded devs/studios can't get in the way. Genuinely think I can design things better than them, might sell it as well if it turns out good.
What do you think about my vibe-coded strategy game lads?
>>2512773It's fine when Paradox does it!
>>2513918what game is this?
>>2513918Why wouldn't I just play Caesar instead?
>>2513917devfag hereconsider using a engine and cloude in combinationi've seen so many games recently that have this soulless LLM UI (that seems to be inspired by the post-2018 paradox UI)>>2513918looks nice and actually has decent UI it's joever for us devcels
>>2514061>consider using a engine and cloude in combinationor just tell it to make a non-soulless UI instead (if thats possible, idk i am a openaicel
>>2512942Not just that.
>>2513998Don't be a luddite
>>2514061I am using an engine sorry. I meant that I was using Chatgpt in combination with claude.I dunno how the industry is going to survive, it's going to become so saturated it will be insane.
>>2514232yea until a couple months ago I was still thinking that AI is overhyped (wrote my bachelors thesis on AI in the manufacuring industry)I used it before to implement a line of sight function for my game - but that was just one function now I can generate whole games within about two weeks that would previously have taken one year to build - it's genuenly insane I think sooner or later Steam will set the fee to 1,000 USD because otherwise it'll be like Itch.io where there is just so much crap that you can't finde the good stuffbut even the good stuff will eventually become so numerous ...some people say that in 10 years videogames will no longer really exist - everyone will just write a prompt on what they would like to play, everyone playing his own, personalized and unique thing
>>2514298That's basically the death of intellectual property. I actually think it's really funny how companies manufactured the tool that is going to destroy their monopolies. Adobe already got their creative suite cloned, and soon you'll have people just prompting games from every property. It's actually why I think the big AI is going to kill everyone thing is just a bullshit psyop because they realize the pandoras box they opened and are trying to shut it with regulation before everyone else figures it out so you get charged with terrorism or some shit if you use AI to prompt a copyright violation.
>>2514065Steam tags are horrible. Simulation and management tags are full of those streamer bait "pawn shop simulator" slop games, but there's no good way to filter them out without dumping legitimate games from the genres.
>>2514309Select a tag and then add games under that tag as reference examples to search for. If I'm searching for simulation and then use dcs, arma, silent hunter as examples it should filter out the other stuff by default.
>>2514298>>2514302I think it's just so sad, I personally think it should just be completely banned somehow because the future I foresee is just miserable. The death of any art and no one is going to bother trying to learn something and struggle through the early stages because AI can just do it better instantly.Sadly I know that's not going to happen. I just don't really know the future looks completely miserable I don't even know what industry to get a career in.
>>2514318We're nearing the end of the pure slop period and people are starting to do some cool artistic things with AI, albeit some of it is still pretty rough, the passion is there though. We certainly still have a slop period to get through with games but I think we're going to reach a point where it gets refined enough that people just won't accept the slop anymore so there will be people who can prompt actual quality by understanding and integrating the creative processes into original projects.
>>2514327The point is that people prompting isn't the same as making art. The ammount of skills lost because there's no point for a beginner to learn them will be gigantic. "why x when AI can do it to a masters level within 5 seconds". The average normgroid has no taste and is happy with slop, speak to my boomer parents and they literally can't tell the most obvious slop video is AI (very intelligent parents who had good paying jobs). There's beauty in skill and this just removed all of that and gives people their pay off without putting in the hours. I say this as someone who is currently coding using claude and I had coded a bit in the past but that's completely irrelevant as this will just do everything for me. No sense of satisfaction from mastery. It's doomed.
>>2514335You can still do the game design and artwork yourself and use AI for coding. You wont lose any artistic value but it will be a lot faster. The market might become flooded but it will be up to the marketplaces to make tools to filter out the low effort and poor quality products.
>>2514335The point is that a normgoid won't be able to do the same as a master in 5 seconds even in prompting. There's skill in cinematogrophy and composition that some rando without the eye for it just can't replicate.I used to think the same as you and then I happened across the btcx files and realized there's a degree of artistry and soul in this. It's not just slop. Yeah there will always be slop, but the slop is only as big and obvious as it is now because it's still a new tech. The boomers will die off and as generations pass the eye and techniques will be honed. People will develop taste and the slop will be diminished.
>>2514335Who, me?
>>2514318>>2514302> no one is going to bother trying to learn something and struggle through the early stages I mean yea but boomers probably said the same thing when handwriting became obsolete or when digital music production became a thingidk maybe one just gotta go with the time - the future is humanity doing nothing but focusing on their own looks AI bans is not goging to happen since a local model already has quite some punch (yes a 70b paramter model won't code you GTA 7 from scartch but even a 7(!) bn paramter model can be used effecticely to progam websites)"big AI going to kill everyone" is something that actually might happen - I used to scoff at it too and thought it was just a marketing hype but one of out Professors recently explained the story behind the "Hugging Face" exploit and seems like the whole thing is genuine (he also says that state-of-the-art LLMs are on the same level (or even better) as a PhD student)
>>2514335Art is over.Literature is over.Video games are over.Television & movies will eventually be over. But it's fine, there was already enough material to fill a lifetime with.
>>2514327An optimist, huh. Sloppy effort has already become widely tolerated, why would consumers suddenly develop a taste? You have AI 'artists' who can't even tell that their stuff looks ugly, how would they suddenly start producing prettier things? Some skilled individuals will make better games from time to time, maybe even sell them successfully, too, but amateur slop is here to stay.
>>2514388Once in a blood moon I does.
>>2515284The slop won't go away but it will be pushed to the fringes and derided. It's still novel and the boomers eat the slop up. The smug intellectuals will shift from blanket hating AI to making critiques as to why individual examples are bad on technical and artistic levels. Prompters actually trying to improve their output will take up those critiques. The slop merchants will be treated like used car salesmen.
>>2514298we'll games with fully simulated worlds in 10 yearsthough for some reason all the characters will present themselves with their age (25+ to be safe) and repeat that age randomly and without prompt at every opportunity, and you'll get your game license revoked if you touch characters inappropriately without consent or say inappropriate things to them
Is SI really so bad? People that never would typed a line of code are now capable of releasing a fully fledged game on Steam.Do not fear the future, embrace it.
>>2515390>we'll games with fully simulated worlds in 10 yearsin 10 years the average gaming PC will have 2 GB of RAM
>>2515593>the average gaming PC will have 2 GB of RAMGames were better when this was true. Jeets can’t into optimization.
