This will probably (I hope) turn out to be nothing major, but it's got me thinking that if something really bad were to ever happen to her, I don't want to be around for it. I'd just rather not know. It's nice sending her a message or something when she's feeling down or under the weather, but watching her go through something life-threatening and not being able to be there for her would be too upsetting. I wouldn't leave because she announced serious health issues, but the possibility is a reason for me not to stick around for long or get too emotionally attracted (though I can't much help the latter).
