I dreamt quite a lot, and most of it I forgot about at this point, put this I retained: for some reason, I ended up messaging with botan, shishiro botan, in a coworkers fashion, as if we knew each other for so long; I had to message her to organize a collab, to set a new day to play something or something, the game didn't matter, I didn't even tell her about any game or much, I just sent her two or three messages to then continue the conversation.
After sending my messages, I saw that she was live, and that I didn't realize that when messaging her, and I didn't expect what happened next: she was just chatting, talking about games and simple things, she had her debut outfit with all the sportswear references and such on, it was comfy like it all was on the beginning of her career... And she took a "break", I knew she read my messages, anyone would have obviously noticed, as she instantly unmuted after finishing to talk with her audience to ask if they wanted to see something funny and were fine with an unannounced guest appearing. I was watching purely because I liked watching her, but this on top of the messages that I sent her and the way in which her whole comfy mood switched to such a... jolly one? Gave me all the chills as I knew before it happened what was coming next.
A handful of seconds passed, her audience agreed and once she said she was gonna do it I started memtally preparing; next thing, I get a discord call, and the first few things I hear besides the exchange of pleasantries was " so, are you free right now? What did you feel like playing?" And the feeling that I had when I heard those words is what remains with me the most about the dream, it was.... Weird, profound in intensity, making me feel so unprotected and unready. But even so, it just lasted some seconds, she giggled in the meanwhile, and I collected myself.
It ended with me ramping up a proper response, explaining what we could do next, and such other things that by now all faded away.

I fell asleep sorry Ok, then by the time you went live you will want to have made some connections, gotten to know people from at least one vtuber group (see how this doesn't say asp necessarily), and thus established your name in this way to get the sweet sweet help of shoutouts and even greater if possible some raids when live. All of this quickly summarized into having networked before appearing on your debut, and might be the most important aspect unless you could somehow funnel traffic from somewhere else onto your first stream.
Besides that, it being your first time streaming it seems, don't overestimate how many people will show up, even if you are a woman don't expect great numbers if you didn't do all the homework from last point, more than anything else just set up things so that, even if no one chatted, you could go for at least two hours.
Remember to set up everything to then be capable of saving the VOD, if possible even multistreaming to not even have to go through that hassle manually.
Also, outside stream, the basic stuff like having generated interest by having shown a preview, one of those "unlock the image with interactions" too, and such stuff that leads to an increase in numbers (minimal), which could translate to an increase in ccv (also negligible because the audiences of other platforms are much less likely to jump sites to follow someone who they barely know).
If you had enough time, you could have even tried to make an appeal for the vtubers reddit to be featured, some have already done that in the past for their first debut, even when they had no prior streamtime, and it helped substantially.

You'll see that is rather common for a vtuber to include general likes or dislikes about mediums (gaming, anime, music) because it's fairly safe to do so, compared to more hardline niche sub-interests. You save those to the side, to not typecast yourself. It also generates reactions or makes you appear relatable if you happen to have takes a would-be chatter has. Understand "would-be" is important here, because a dire debut can filter. A debut clipped out of context (like Aia at Nijisanji) and it's a instant death sentence.
- Alone, record an attempt at this debut. See how long you go for, how did you pace things, rewatch and cringe, but also learn. In time you'll be able to improve, grow, clip-farm etc. But your debut will be the first official piece of media people can engage with. So ensure you've planned accordingly. Time is a big factor. Too short, you've awkwardly gotta pray that a game you've picked is going to retain the viewership. Too long and you will have chatters say "Oh x is live, by"
- Establish footing in advance. One of the biggest misunderstandings shared by /asp/ is the statement "Just go live" and that's great... If you've already debut, been at it for a couple of months. Here, not so much. You've already replied to a different anon about social media prep, networking in select servers and circles. Great. You understand that people aren't just going to appear out of curiosity. Not many do. Good lad.

Sorry, I just realized I didn't actually answer the question. It didn't feel like it took too long but I was passively searching for music on sites like dova syndrome before I even started streaming. If you look around and already have an atmosphere you would like to convey you'll know if a song is right for you just by listening for a few seconds.

My two cents on this matter is that you don't need background music if you're just starting out. In my opinion a BGM is only necessary for a starting screen or zatsu streams. A starting screen isn't as relevant if you aren't affiliate yet as you don't need one to "skip" pre-roll ads. Zatsu streams are a trap for people without an active chat yet. I'd still keep an eye out for music though.

Yeah I have two songs themed around my model and lore for my streams commissioned. If you hunt around you'll find someone willing to do BGM commissions on Vgen, Skeb, etc. I still think getting something tailor-made like music should only come after other things (i.e. model or emotes) but they can really make a difference in the perceived production value of your streams.

I tried this actually, and the artist insulted me because I was insensitive and didn't get that they deleted something for a reason, and didn't understand that I shouldn't have asked for it if they deleted it, and that I was being a jerk for directly begging them and I ended up putting them on the stop because I was forcing them to give me the image or else I could make up drama about them, and how I will never get art again from them.
