Especially medschool debt which is 6 figures, compounding, difficult/impossible to refinance, and cannot be forgiven generally. Residency lasts for several years of which you get paid very little for long hours while your debt compounds. When you do finish residency you still aren't gonna make near enough to put a debt in your principle unless you become highly specialized which will take even more years. The next best bet for a doctor is finding a job in bumfuck nowhere that's so desperate they're willing to take chunks out of your debt.
